I was the wife of a doctor of integrative medicine for over 30 years. We treated decades of different viruses and health catastrophes with vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, Vitamin C drips, Meyer's Cocktail IVs, hydrogen peroxide IVs, chelation and lots of advice. We didn't think much of curing everybody. But in Ontario now, doctors who post about Vitamin D and its necessity for the immune system are threatened by Health Canada and censored. Naturopaths have been told that they cannot promote Vitamin D and C. The Public Health Doctor for Canada, Dr. Tam calls the use of these vitamins "Snake Oil". Your videos, Dr. Sam, are very dear to the public. I love to watch them.

If you consider the sources I am tired of government telling us what to do. For over a decade in America we were told climate change was bad that co2 was bad truth is plants which are our source of food for not only us but the animals we eat and plants including mainly green pigments convert carbon dioxide into oxygen by the way of photosynthesis which a scientist named Ian Isanhous born in 1730 and died in 1799. He claimed that with sunlight and water plants were able to convert co2 into oxygen but because of Obama's climate change models didn't fit that scenario photosynthesis was forgotten by our scientists. Why do you think they were called oxygen bearing plants .Carbon dioxide only becomes lethal according to a google search at about 110000 parts per million. Since confined spaces are already limited on oxygen and we use oxygen and breath out carbon dioxide in human respiration why confined spaces are so dangerous. Many have been talking about going to Mars the planet but looking up what NASA satellite have come up with no human could survive there. The atmosphere is 94.6 percent co2 and average temperature is about a negative 83 degrees Fahrenheit we would die of hypothermia in minutes.

@@gwenlair5198I agree, How "science" could "forget" about photosynthesis, a principle I learned in grade school? Perhaps Obama and globalists counted on general ignorance of that fact ..

Then my body began to breakdown etc.. not to mention overweight. But now I am 61 lost weight from 115kg down to 87Kg all naturally as soon as I gave up sugar and processed sugar. Great video. I have first hand experience of D3 deficiency. For about 8 years I suffered from a constant viral state, bone and muscle pain, depression, chest infections, profuse sweating, damaged vocal cords, no energy and other symptoms. I eat oily fish, love vegetables and generally eat a healthy diet but live in the Northern hemisphere and apply factor 30 sunscreen when sunbathing. I was at rock bottom and couldn’t see a way forward with my life feeling this way - if you understand what I mean - which is totally unlike me. I was desperate and doctors weren’t listening. I finally saw a different doctor who took more bloods and discovered that my body was fighting at this point serious disease and quite rightly started with the more sinister things. I was sent for scans and x-rays but she also discovered that I had a huge Vit D deficiency and put me
on high doses of D3 with monitoring. Within about 10 days I felt better than I had in years. I now have NONE of the symptoms described above and have embarked on a serious fitness campaign (because I now can). My life has totally turned round. So, thanks to people like you, people like me are living a much better life.

Did the doc tell you to drop the sunscreen? That cant be good for you either, go out in the morning to catch the sun, the evening as well, and the mid-day wear a hat! In NZ we have the worst rates for UV exposure due to the ozone hole, but still, I use SPF6 for three months of the year when its at its worse, also a loose longsleeve shirt, and wear a hat for half the year...

YES, that is the right dosage! For example 10.000 IU Sept-Apr and 5.000 IU May-Aug (if You live above 42nd northern parallel). Lower dosage typically does not suffice. Also get a blood test every few years, 50-80 ng/ml is perfect, stay below 100 ng/ml.

Doc I love this video on vitamin D and it’s importance to our bodies immune system. I fell ill a while back with pneumonia and the flu. I quit smoking the day I went into the hospital and never looked back but even after a few years which included exercise I had episodes of my asthma that lasted days sometimes weeks. My doctor took blood and said my vitamin D was low. I live in Michigan so there’s that winter thing lol. Anyway I started taking vitamin D supplements and never stopped. I even felt good enough to get a scuba diving certification with the docs approval and hardly get a cold anymore. By the way it was 20 yrs ago I quit smoking.

What I like about your videos, is your prefrotnal cortex utilization. You are not attention seeking, nor over dramatic, which is probably the more laid back New Zealand influence, and you are very thorough and informative. Sometimes in nutrition, in the US, people will only talk about one thing and they will continually plaster it over and over again. You do an excellent job in covering the most current research and it is very much appreciated. It is important for people that get less sunlight, to take supplementation, and vitamin D helps to metabolize cholesterol as well, which is important. You definitely have a long term patron from me and the most important topic for us to learn is nutrition. Thanks for all your efforts.

My husband, a retired engineer, got hold of my many blood tests and xray report. Spent a day on pubmed and then told me I needed some Vitamin D3, K2, magnesium and some turmeric for the inflammation. 3 weeks later I was well and improved every day since. Oddly, didn't get a cold last year. First time ever.

Look into Vitamin C also....a lot of information on this. (My background before medicine was genetics....need for VitC is due to a genetic defect in humans....and only 4 other species...all other species make it in liver and it is up regulated in disease states. It's as important as VitC.) Keep up your good work. Cheers.

While having hormone therapy for stage 3 prostate cancer I began to always feel tired and developed deficiencies in vitamins D and B12. I was prescribed a daily dose of 1000UI of colecalciferol. I have a vitamin B12 injection every 12 weeks.

My son's dog consumed an entire package of 13 rodent killer tabs. We found out from the vet that the new style of rodenticide is not based on arsenic as we thought, but of concentrated Vitamin D. It has the effect of drawing Ca and Potassium from the bones and clogging the liver. The dog finally got straightened out but only after a long series of treatments and many $$'s.
At the same time, I was taking Vit D supplements, suggested by my doctor. The dog's condition prompted me to look up Vit D overdose symptoms in humans and one is unexplained itching, which I had. I stopped the Vit D and the symptoms decreased by a lot. I have been since tested and have normal Vit D readings.
So, I am not condemning taking Vit D supplements, but it has to be taken with caution.

Hi Dr Sam, I have recently been reading about the benifit of berberine. I am at the moment taking metformin for what I call very borderline diabetes. I was wondering if there would be any benifit or down side to taking berberine along side the metformin. Many thanks, love your channel, very informative. All the best, Barry.

At one time a few years ago when I attended my wife's visit to her osteoporosis clinic because of my age the Dr suggested I increase from 1000 IU to 2000 IU year round even though I do spend a lot of time outdoors reading and getting lots of "rays" so both of us now take 2K IU year round. One pill in the AM and one at supper time. We do take a variety of other things too. We just have to recognize that at our ages, things don't function perhaps as we might like so just do what we can to live as well as we can on the downside of the curve. Yup, we are definitely flattening the curve.

we had to adapt as we moved north: the same pigment that protects from UV hinders vitamin D production - women with low vitamin D have a poorly formed pelvis and are less successful in child-bearing: this (over time) selects for whiter skin as you move north (better vitamin D production = better calcium absorption, more successful birth rate). other coping mechanisms: eating fish, red meat, mushrooms growing (or dried) in sunlight... nowadays we supplement dairy, but if you're a vegan and don't eat dairy, meat or fish...

Since most vitamin D capsules are sold in international unit (I.U.) doses, it would be helpful if you included the daily dose recommendations in that form, as well as the microgram unit of measurement. Assuming a broad interest in this video, thousands of viewers will have to find a microgram to I.U. converter, to find out how much D3 to take.

    Dear Dr.
I belief you are someone with an open mind and willing to accept alternative curing methods. 20 years back at 45, I started to develop prostate problems, all my doctors suggested surgery. In my ignorance I was afraid of surgery so found out that lowering of testosterone was linked to enlargement of the prostrate. So started doing squats to improved my testosterone, along with acupressure n massage - I managed to solve my very embarrassing prostate problem. Believe It or Not, I am now 65 n dont have any severe symptoms. What is your opinion?

Hi Dr Bailey, I keep seeing info that Vit D should be accompanied with Vit k2 due to the fact that it helps the calcium be directed into the bones and teeth instead of the arteries. What’s your thoughts on this? I was diagnosed with low Vit D but am pensive on the subject. Thanks in advance 🌺🇨🇦

    • @lilolmecj
      @lilolmecj 2 года назад

There are many videos by other doctors who teach on vitamin K. My personal thoughts are that it is important and something like Natto consumed weekly seems sufficient to help. My thought is taking it close to bedtime would be best because the regeneration of bone occurs when we sleep.

    Agree 100%, Dr. S. Thanks!
My favorite vitamin for the immune system keeps showing its stuff!
Evidence that Vitamin D Supplementation Could Reduce Risk of Influenza and COVID-19 Infections and Deaths
“Several observational studies and clinical trials reported that vitamin D supplementation reduced the risk of influenza… Evidence supporting the role of vitamin D in reducing risk of COVID-19 includes that the outbreak occurred in winter, a time when 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) concentrations are lowest; that the number of cases in the Southern Hemisphere near the end of summer are low; that vitamin D deficiency has been found to contribute to acute respiratory distress syndrome; and that case-fatality rates increase with age and with chronic disease comorbidity, both of which are associated with lower 25(OH)D concentration. To reduce the risk of infection, [researchers] recommend that people at risk of influenza and/or COVID-19 consider taking 10,000 IU/daily of vitamin D3 for a few weeks to rapidly raise 25(OH)D concentrations, followed by 5000 IU/daily. The goal should be to raise 25(OH)D concentrations above 40-60 ng/mL (100-150 nmol/L). For treatment of people who become infected with COVID-19, higher vitamin D3 doses might be useful.”

Lovely presentation. As a teacher indoors l suspected l was D3 deficient and had my levels tested and was below 20 ngmol. After that l took supplements and have done for ten years. I too suggested to parents that they have the D3 levels of their darker skinned listless chikdren tested. Inevitably they were, as were light skinned kids to. The slip slop slap campaign also ensures kids during summer don't get enough D3 in the summer months. Studies have shown that kids in the US come back from summer camp because of the sunscreen, hat and long sleeves campaign. Many dermatolgists are vitamin D3 deficient it turns out, being the champions of the slip slop slap campaign. During covid l am on 3000 iu's daily.
