The best intro to any metal song ever. On Decade of Aggression this is the heaviest thing ever recorded.
Maybe the most sinister of all of theirs.
Decade of Aggression was my introduction to Slayer as a metal loving teenager still discovering the big names, making Hell Awaits the first Slayer song I ever heard. There are very few songs I’ve heard in my life that blew me away the way that live version Hell Awaits did when I first heard it. Over two decades later and I still get shivers down my spine.
Skeletons of society and chemical warfare have some pretty gnarly intros also. But what slayer intros suck ? None.
Ive been saying that for years. A masterpiece intro ! How the energy moves about....and climbs.
I like how the into is nothing but palm-mutes, power chords, and bar chords. Gives it a super rich, clear, and crunchy sound.

Slayer's solos are controlled chaos.
Lots of chromatic runs, lots of diminished scales/tritone intervals, and of course lots of pinch harmonics, dive bombs & assorted guitar mayhem.

Also, it is crazy how simple that riff is. I play bass, but I could even bang that one out. The solo, maybe not. Shit, my Gibson doesn't even have a trem.
