- Gentle Giants Draft Horse Rescue is a 501 c3 Tax Deductible Non-Profit Rescue. We are located in Mount Airy, Maryland. We are committed to saving draft horses from slaughter, and adopting them into new homes as trail and schooling horses

Do people also rescue cows? when I was 12 years old I raised a steer from a baby. It showed love, it played with me, it demonstrated emotion(could tell when he was angry or happy or) would lay down with me and was lonely when I was away- I remember when I would get off the bus after school- he was always so happy to see me. He was smart and demonstrated a thinking process not incompletely unlike any other animal.... When he was almost 2 years old- I had to let it go, and he was sold for beef slaughter. I was heartbroken.. all the way to this day. I hope there are people who rescue cows too

Bless your hearts! Tears are streaming down my face. My wife and I have provided a home for ten former racing greyhounds. We completely agree that the animals know they are rescued. I grew up around horses. Magnificent creatures!
Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart for what you are doing. I have loved horses my entire life, I am 74 and miss so much to be around them. I long to hear their nickers, smell them and to be touching their velvety soft noses. Watching this video and what you are doing, gives me some hope again in humanity because I know of the blight that all horses are facing on a daily bases in this country and elsewhere. It breaks my heart what these majestic creatures have to endure, caused by our government and privately. Bless each and everyone of you that is involved with this rescue group, knowing that there are still people out there that are willing and able to safe these beautiful creatures from sure death, it just makes my day! 😊❤️❤️❤️
I used to drive a carriage downtown Galveston and the horses were well taken care of by both companies and I've ridden these horses I've ridden a Belgian I read in the Clydesdale and a shire and let me tell you the best riding horses I ever have they don't spook easy they're easy going a comfortable ride and my goal is to adopt a gentle giant needing a home eventually but thank God for these people God bless you ever get a chance to come out there I'd love to come out and spend time with you all on the horses but the gentle Giants are this sweet and kind horses and like you said they deserve to be loved and have a happy life
These horses are absolutely beautiful. They are the biggest teddy bears on the planet. I hate animal abuse and neglect. These animals do NOT deserve to be a meal for anybody. They deserve to be loved and cared for. Once they know they are safe they will come out of their shell. They're so much fun!

I take in old drafts. Right now we have a 22 year old flea bitten white Percheron who I named Shorty. This is their forever home when they come here. His pal is Micky, a 22 year old Dressage and former Hunt grand champion, who has cysts in his back joints. There’s always room for more. Our farm is in western Michigan by Grand Rapids. I am also on the board for Great Lakes Mastiff Rescue, and we always have a few Mastiffs galumping around. Most of them were abandoned by their families when the dog might have eaten the couch, or took a potty in their house. Mastiffs absolutely cannot exist by themselves . Their entire being is to have the family together and the more the happier they are. 🐴
Draft horses are awesome. We have a Shire mare that I brought home when she was 4 months old. Former owners didn't want her because she only had 3 white socks and the 4th was black. When first visiting her, she bonded with me instantly. When I left to go bring back my horse trailer, she carried-on a bit as I was leaving, and she became excited when I returned. We soon got a 4-month-old Morgan filly because she didn't get along too well with her barn mates. She and the Shire mare are best buddies today.
The sweetest horse I’ve ever known was a beautiful chestnut draft horse who we got from an auction after he aged and couldn’t plow anymore. Was very gentle guy as a girl felt like riding an elephant, now I know how we probably saved him from becoming meat ; bless these badass ladies

I rescued an OTTB that surely would have gone into the slaughter pipe line. I have also owned a draft as well. I've had some spectacular horses in my life. It saddens me the over breeding that takes place around the world. But you know even 1 life saved is a win for that horse.

I wish there was a draft horse rescue around me. I would be good at giving TLC and love, letting them know they are safe. Drafts are beautiful animals, and their personalities are so different and so sweet and loving. They love attention and deserve to live out the rest of their lives with love, other horse friends and great food and lots of play time! LOL! It's awesome to see how wonderful these horses are doing. What you see is what you get with them.
You do a grand job! like you we have an issue with over breeding of horses, owners who are irresponsible, but gentle giants are much loved! I learnt to ride on my uncles shire, so keep on doing what you do!
This is the BESt RESCUE EVER. The work you do is so inspirational. I am retied and I don't have a lot f money, but I will ALWAYS give whatever I can afford to save these magnificent creatures. God bless the work you do.
I'm starting to think of doing volunteering here just to be with the horses and take care of them I loved horses all my life and even my aunt has a horse or two I love to hang with so just for the sake of these horses I will volunteer at this farm with them.

Draft horses are special. Good job u do and know ur appreciated for saving such wonderful animal.. I love drafties best . Always did . Even as a small child going to royal winter fair in Toronto.. I was drawn to big drafties.so small and I had no fear to go in the stall and pet them ..

These horses are awesome, awesome animals. They are sweet and have personalities on them that won't quit. Many are very playful and just love to be around people. It's disgusting that these other people mistreat and kill them for profit. They deserve to have a wonderful life and be treated with Love, treats, and other good things. Thank God for those of you who take care of these guys.

This is amazing, we need more people to do this sort of work for horses. Horses do not deserve half the stuff they go through, they are supposed to be wild and free but we have changed them over years. It is like we are just controlling them, and they have no say in the matter. I LOVE horses so much, and it makes me so happy that rescue centres do what they do.
+EquiiCaine They're extremely different from their wild ancestors now though. Modern horse breeds are giants compared to their ancestors.

I'm crying because of this I love horse my self and I wish horse slaughter didn't exist and every 1 was nice to there horses the most beautiful thing Ive ever seen
Different countries, different cultures. There are some places on earth where horses are bred for meat.
But your job is awesome. Doing great things for those animals who are in need.
