  • Pennsylvania is beyond blessed to have Alura, with Bonded by Strength Equine Rescue, operating a Full Circle of Life Horse Shelter near Lewisberry. Her heartbreaking story of early childhood abuse, her strength and grit to pick herself back up from utter despair and put her focus into giving back to their horses that saved her, will bring inspiration to all who watch.
The people, animals and events seen in this reality TV show are not paid actors, and are real people reacting in real events. Some events may have been dramatized for effect.

I’m glad you invited Alura & Jessika at Bonded by Strength Equine Rescue to boot camp. They seem very organized, dedicated, & eager to learn. Alura’s personal story was heartwrenching. No one should ever have to go thru that, much less a child. Thank goodness her adoptive parents came to her rescue. Now she is paying it forward to horses.

Bonded By Strength is a beautiful organisation, Alura is a wonderful woman who gives back to the animals who saved her life, she didn't let the roughness of her life bring her down and is doing all that she can for the horses and that's such a great thing. Very excited to see her at bootcamp! Also I love that little stone Pegasus that sits outside, I want one too haha

I cried and smiled throughout this visit so much heartbreak and trauma to wade through in a young lady's life, but in true woman style you have come out the other side with embracing your passion. I sincerely thank your beautiful parents who love horses as mych as you and turned their focas to support this journey with you.
God bless you all on this venture. ❤
I am an old lady now and my days of rescue horses have past, I still do dogs at the moment but my passion has never wained for horses.

Wow - I am very impressed by Alura and her rescue! Her personal story has me in tears. I am so glad she found her place after all of her suffering. And then to turn it around and pay back? Her personal drive is very strong, I am sure they will be doing even a lot more amazing things and I am really glad they got invited to bootcamp! I have a soft spot for Standardbreds as the barn I was working and training at rescued them from the racing track, trained them and re-homed them as trail horses. I have trained with many of them. And it‘s for me really hard to understand what’s happening with the Amish and them throwing their work horses away (I am from Germany). I just hope that with more laws in place (that are enforced!) and the whole network horse slaughter really can come to an end!

    • @kristenkaz3080

I lived among the Amish in the state of Wisconsin in the US & I could NOT believe how they, these supposed “people of God”, treated their animals & their horses. I now own a Belgian mare that was Amish & she came through from slaughter, & she’s slowly starting to understand kindness. She didn’t know what apples or carrots were. She’s suspicious of kindness. She’s very “shut down” with human interactions. I’m hoping to do low level eventing/dressage with her because her legs are lighter in bone. She’s 18hh & 1,850lbs. But for now, I’m just putting weight on her, & doing some massage, some grooming & just day to day handling. Her saddle has been ordered. Wish me luck!!!

Maybe next year you might consider Fletcher Farms Amarillo in Texas, they're a draft horse rescue as well as they've also rescued and relocated other equines too. Maybe you can also partner with them, we (I'm helping Julie to hopefully get this set up, she's so busy) are trying to get a direct buy or surrender system set up so these horses won't endure a trip to Texas on a kill or livestock buyer's truck, this would allow Fletcher Farms Amarillo to save money for vet care by doing this. They're also working with Vets who have PTSD. They're also a full circle of life because they've had to do the last act of kindness after rescuing a horse.

I just want to remind everyone that having "laws on the books" can cause hidden issues. People that have skinny or injured animals that know they will get either turned away or have a charge put to them will now let the animal perish in a backfield somewhere. Instead of creating guidelines for acceptable slaughter within the USA, all these organizations now have to stop them from shipping OUT, theres no control. We, as the rescuers, need to come up with the game plan to offer the powers that be so they arent making more of a mess for us to deal with.

This is why organizations like Horse Plus take animals no questions asked, so that needed care or euthanasia can be provided. Dumping starving sick horses at auction needs to be stopped. There is no humane way to operate a horse slaughter facility because of the nature of horses. It doesn’t matter how much oversight there is.

I see a big coming up dificulty with those foals that are allowed to lay / step on people. As they'll be growing, you'll have to forbid them something people allowed them beforehand. That's unfair. Never allow a young animal something it won't be allowed to do as a grown-up. You'll frustrate and irritate them to the max.

Lynne, I was hoping someone else noticed the editing was too choppy. It was a great story but I struggled following the threads making it as you say "confusing". This organization seems to have a great mission and learned a lot at the workshop but maybe focusing on their improvements from that more would have showcased HPHS mentoring success. I didn't mind showing the therapy as it is interesting to see a new technology that probably wouldn't be shown on a vet, chiropractor, farrier or other such channel. I didn't quite understand the 'benefits' though.
I wish BSER well as they get to come to bootcamp and seem to be ready to learn even more!

Nice to see a genuine Story about a deity but i still do not like this one much. The fact that she had to literally ask for those things instead of the terrible things actually just being stopped. For me it still comes of very Narcissistic. Ill sit by and watch you be tormented but the minute you want to hand yourself to me and ask ill help out. Seems very off. But either way the horses and her got help in the end. So not all bad.
