How to cast an Alvey reel- Surf Fishing with an Old School Alvey

This is my heavy outfit for Big Tailor (Bluefish) and Mulloway (and whatever else the Ocean God's have instore for me). There is a knack to using one and you have to guide the line by hand but this outfit has helped me control some massive sea beasts before

Unlike others I was a little relieved to see you get a bit tangled. At least as a novice I can see it also happens to experts. Thanks for the video. It really shows clearly how to pick up the line when yo turn the reel sideways for the cast.

You have to punch cast to get long distance. I do a skipping run into a punch cast. NH. 🦈🎣

Would left hand retrieve be recommended for a right handed like a spinning reel? Thinking of trying Alvey but only LH reel is available where I live.

Just a Basic 3-4/0 size gang of hooks. Stops the Tailor from snipping the line

You getting line slap and twists because your rod needs a 60mm base guide , the guides on your rod are too small your rod is designed for a smaller Alvey reel like an estuary reel 450, not for a Surf reel 700, cheers mate
