Collecting Pipis and Surf Beach Fishing With Alvey Reel - Sunshine Coast

- Today we are on the Sunshine Coast on one of the many stretches of surf beaches between Coolum and Noosa. Its a lovely day, so hopefully the fish are hungry. For bait we will be using fresh Pipis as surf fish love them. You can buy them at the bait shop, or even better, collect them yourself. Pipis are so much fun and easy to collect - anyone can do it, even the kids.

Hey Awesome video ImJasonFish and Thanks for showing me how to catch Pipis at the Beach and Thanks for helping me catch my PB 28 cm Bream ImJasonFish !!
Your welcome mate. Definately give it a go next time you hit the surf beach - let me know how you go! Cheers 🤙
ImJasonFish Yeah I will Thanks for the videos !!
Catching pipis is so satisfying
So much fun. Thanks for watching 😊
Nice man! Really peaceful to watch!
Thanks mate! 👏👏
The best way is where the sand is moist not washing too much with waves, then dig down like an upside down cone shape. Then you’ll find heaps
Thanks for the tip! Cheers for watching and leaving a comment 👍
Been using an Alvey reel on a custom 16 Foot graphite since 1996. Just bought a new graphite reel, lever drag for it. Caught every thing from Taylor (kahawai) snapper, trevally, Kingfish and the odd eagle ray. Bloody fantastic reels. Nearly spooled twice! Now 65 yrs old but on walking sticks. Still manage the odd trip to fish at night. Love the no bullshit approach young man. Well done.
Hey Patricia, thanks for watching! Wow you have caught some very nice fish - fish I dream of catching haha. Do you have any tips and tricks? Cheers 👍😋
Take thee to a multi field rugby paddock. Make 4 seperate leaders, 30lb and up in 10 lb steps. Sinker weights 1 oz - 5 oz. Then compare the 3 different casts; Overhead, side and pendulum. Yes its Dorky, but it teaches you really fast to gain very very long casts. Why multi field, i was teaching a casting group and put a 5 oz sinker 185 yrds, reaction was wow, how do i do that? Practice technique. My rods were built by an NZ casting Champion to my directions. I rarely fished beside others until i had my Shit Together with the Alvey. Then it was game on, try tossing 120gm poppers as well. So advice wise, your doing great. Fish Fish Fish. My advantage was i took a Sabatical fully funded for 6Yrs, so fishing in toto was derigour. Did me the world of good. Very humbling to be off my lofty perch. Now im retired, beaten & bent but still sound of mind.
Thanks for your response, I will try it out! Take it easy and enjoy! 👍
Awesome video ImJasonFish !! I missed you uploading more RUclips videos on your RUclips Channel ImJasonFish !! Thanks ImJasonFish for helping me catch my PB 42 cm Dusky Flathead over my school holidays !! Keep up the amazing work ImJasonFish I can’t wait for the next video ImJasonFish and Thanks for the videos ImJasonFish !! Cheers William !!
Nice catch William! Now to upgrade! Keep fishing hard my friend! Thanks for watching 👍
ImJasonFish Thanks I am thinking about buying one of those small rods and a small alvey reel for when I do more Beach Fishing ? Do you know what line I should put on my alvey reel ImJasonFish I was thinking on using like 6 lb mono line but since I get Bream Flathead and Whiting at my Beach I might have to upgrade the line to maybe 12 lb mono or something ?
We call those sand clams, - Sand Mussels in South Africa! 🎣
Lol,...2:02, "whack on the back of your Alvey...".
The only reel on Earth that will survive clam beating!
That's it mate 😂 Cheers for watching 👍
@@ImJasonFish Subbed too.
Been fishing Alvey in California since 1982. That first 45c1 is still in service.
Awesome to hear the Aussie Alvey has a loyal following overseas 👍
Great vid mate ! Hot tip use a half hitch so the bait stays in place !
Hey mate, sure do! Sometimes it's a bit tricky with pipis, so I have a second small keeper hook. Thanks for watching 😊
Love your videos man, what size alvey are you using?
Hey mate, thanks for watching! I'm using the Alvey 500BC. All my setups are in my video descriptions if you are interested. Cheers 👍
Great video mate.
What kind of a rig were you using ?
Thanks mate! I switched between a double dropper loop rig and a simple running sinker with swivel rig. I have listed the setup and gear in each of my videos description as well. Thanks for watching 😊
awesome video man. pipis r gr8 beach to use especially off the beach. i prefer using pipis to target gurnard or trevs. sometimes use them for piper/garfish too if i get the chance but sadly its been over 10 years since i saw pipis being sold at supermarkets
Thanks for watching mate. Make sure you collect some next time you head to the surf beach! 👍
@@ImJasonFish lol sadly most beaches i go to either dont have them or i just suck at finding them XD lol
😭😭😭
Nice flatty, 50 cm? The small dart are a bit of a pest species on the sunny coast. Thank you, tight lines.
Hey mate, the flatty went a nice 55cm - great size for a surf flatty. Hahaha bloody baby darts, where are the big ones? 😭😭 Thanks for watching 😊
@@ImJasonFish I agree, I catch them at point Cartwright and they are great eating but I haven't seen many big ones for ages. We need more rain to refresh the food system in the rivers and out into the surf.
Fantastic eating indeed. Hoping the big ones turn up soon! 🙏
Great vid, Thankyou, what rod is that please?
Hey mate, my fishing setup and gear is listed in the description below. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment 👍
Are pipis any good for human consumption? I love eating clams, and they look delicious.
Hey mate, you can definately eat them once cooked! And dont you worry, we took some home for dinner - Garlic chilli Pipis my favourite! 😋😋 Thanks for watching 👍
I ate them a lot growing up. Boiled just right and fresh - I used to enjoy them in NZ - not sure what they taste like here
Great vid, I noticed on that newer Alvey the drag only clicks when line is being taken, is this a new feature if so I like it.
Hey James, yes I believe all Alvey drag models click when drag is taken or the tension is past the drag setting. Thanks for watching ☺️
You can turn it off as well
Pipipipipipipi
Thanks for watching Catfishy 😂
wheres this
Can you please give me the address of this place? I am really interesting this place
Hey mate, try any stretch of surf beach on the Sunny Coast. Good luck and thanks for watching 😊
I have a ,Alvey reel, what the price on it
Another informative & entertaining video. You were beaten by the Flathead. Definitely, the biggest fish caught. I usually use the hardball of my foot & step on Bluebottles. There are several creatures that eat them www.northernstar.com.au/news/mysterious-sea-creature-eats-bluebottles-floats-up/3264834/ I have seen beaches in Newcastle with blue sand due to the numbers of Bluebottles washed in. I'm looking forward to your next video.
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed ☺️
what time of day were you there?
Hey mate, this was in the morning. However any time of day or night - with an out going tide to collect pipis. Actually alot more productive at night for collecting 👍
@@ImJasonFish ok thanks for the help.
Bean sinker changes to a pyramid
sinker
Yeah mate, changed half way through - caught fish on both. Cheers for watching 😊
Have you stopped youtubing mate? Haven't had any uploads in months now.
We call em eugaries you can tell a female and male eug from the Colour
The best time to get eugs is after a new moon the low tide after u can eat em raw or cooked lovely
I got a vintage 45c and a Gary Howard estuary series 7' 1pc 2-4kg for going bream etc fishing on the river and a custom built from a Pacific composite 7153 2pc with a green spool 650c for the beach . I don't like the newer graphite backed alveys . Not really a fan of alvey brand rods either
