I just bought their "2" Heavy Duty Double," and after watching a number of RUclips videos on the 1Up-USA racks, I think yours is the best - but they've all been useful. At 1:43 seconds into your video you say that you "lift up" the "2" hitch" without explaining that you have to move the spring-loaded "black bar" to do that. You didn't explain the need for the Velcro safety strap or HOW to install it. You do show how to lock the rack onto your car and how to lock your bicycles onto the rack itself. None (?) of the other RUclips videos mention those special locks. Again, though, I think your video is they most thorough of the bunch. Thanks a lot.
Thanks for the feedback. Good point on the spring. I don't use the velcro strap, I honestly don't know how much that would actually hold haha! How do you like your rack so far?
I tried it for the first time today, and it worked great. I don't have locks for my bikes or for the rack itself yet, so I was always conscious of that. I did install that Velcro strip that came with the rack. From a RUclips video I watched earlier I think the purpose of the Velcro strip is to prevent the entire rack from sliding completely out of the hitch if, somehow, the (silver ball) attachment mechanism worked loose. The Velcro strip is long enough to wrap through the hitch and around one of the rack beams. It should be installed tight.
I've had the 1UP rack for a couple of months now, and I do really like it. The best thing about it is that it's quick (to load and unload) and secure, and the worst thing is that it's really pretty heavy - and thereby a little awkward to rotate the (empty) rack between 'vertical' and 'horizontal.' I did install 1UP's Velcro strap as a safety precaution, and I do use a Kryptonite cable to secure the rack - against theft - to my vehicle.
Wow, I've been researching racks for three days now and was set on the kuat NV 2.0 but changed my mind due to hard to use bike release when loaded. The Thule XT pro had better placement but too much plastic involved for the price as compared to this one.
It's GREAT. I'm really happy with this purchase. It's solid but light enough for me take it off and on whenever I need to really easily. Now i'm going places!
I am so glad I got this, 2inch heavy duty black, mostly carry one bike so this is so light and folds up so compact in single form on car, just leave it on all time. Bought lock for hitch.
Has never happened. Seems like a lot more people use this for MTB though! I'll try to post updates on my new gear channel if you want to sub there: ruclips.net/channel/UCy7F4iJbilFoq4pPo1tEHxQ
Gary, is there a way of locking the second carrier unit to the main carrier? The main unit has the provision of adding the lock thru the hole ( as you did) to block access to the security hex bolt. However the second unit could be unbolted from the main unit by removing the two unprotected security hex bolts securing unit 2 to the main unit by anyone possessing the security hex wrench, their access is not blocked. Have you or anyone else addressed this? Thanks
OK, so upon further research, I found that there is an accessory lock on the 1up-usa website under "Security Options" that locks Add-On to Rack or previous Add-On. Here's the link: www.1up-usa.com/product/add-on-lock/
Nice video and review Gary. One thing I didn't see you do is put the velcro "security" strap on. I've been researching different bike racks too and the only negative thing it seems I've found regarding the 1up rack is that in some very rare instances it can loosen and potentially fall off your car, if you don't notice it happening. It sounds like it is not very common but you'd hate to have an expensive rack and bikes fall off going down the road. Might want to throw it on there until you're sure yours stays tight. I think I'm going to get the same rack, looks awesome!
Hi Joe, Thanks for the comment. I agree, I think this is the biggest con for the rack as it seems standard where a hitch locking pin could be used to secure it. I guess it is because it conflicts with the ball pinion. I'll go with the velcro for now, but may do the chain hack I saw someone else made for this rack. The biggest pro for me is to switch this back back and fourth between a duo and a solo since I'm usually driving solo, and the second is not having to take off my front wheel for my cyclocross bike, and the third is that it will fit in my garage with bikes as is, and I know that I'll forget my bike on top of my roof. In fact, I did that with my SeaSucker rack, but thank goodness it was so low, it cleared my garage!
I agree, the convenience of this rack looks awesome. It seems so simple to use and construction looks top notch. I also ran a bike into my garage years ago on a roof mount rack. Haha. Never again will I put a bike on top of a car.
So between the hitch on the car and the rack receiver end that little silver ball is suppose to keep the bike rack intact and hitched on to the car? Thought there would be another locking mechanism to insert between the hitch to the bike rack to secure it.
Looks like a pain to lower and raise the rack with 2 or 4 bike. Plus back braking. But i do like the rack. Just wish it had the handle thule t2 pro xt has. I like the anti theft locking for rack and bike wheels.
damacknificent151 you can buy a handle to make it easier to raise and lower the rack for an additional $20 or $30 (depending on how many modules you have). I haven't tried it yet, I am trying to decide between the 1UP and the Thule T2 XT Pro
How's the black holding up? Any chips in the powdercoat or fading of the black anodized parts? I've seen some videos where the black anodized parts fade and turn an eggplant purplish color. I am debating between silver and black. Nicely made video by the way, very thorough and helpful. I am looking at a similar set up with the Ecohitch and Super Duty version of the 1Up.
I felt real dumb because I couldn’t figure out how you tilted in the beginning. Also my blue levers were suuuuper tight and I had to use the Allen wrench to unlock and lock them
Gary - in your intro you mentioned that you would include a review of the EcoHitch. I didn't hear you make any comments about the hitch, which I would love to hear about. The bike rack looks great, but what about the EcoHitch? Hope you can share some good feedback on it. I am considering the EcoHitch instead of a Draw Tite, but is is 3x the price. Is is worth it?
amcoffee4me I have a different hitch on my CX9 and I think the Eco Hitch is worth it since it looks more integrated and has a smaller profile. This thing is built like a tank. You might want to go for the smaller one instead of the 2” if it’s just for a bike rack.
Hey Gary, great installation and "first impressions" video! Helped convinced me to purchase one for myself. Would love to see a follow-up/long-term review video since you've had it for almost 2 years now. Has it been working well for you? No major issues/complaints I hope?
Hi Stephen, still loving it and they are still holding up very well. I would still recommend it today. I should make an update video, if I do, I'll put it on my other channel since this channel is now dedicated to crypto. Feel free to sub there if you are looking for a follow up! ruclips.net/channel/UCy7F4iJbilFoq4pPo1tEHxQ
I was looking on their website and the quick rack that is single and can ad one or two more trays on it, it only seemed to come with a 1.25 / 2 inch version, where if you want it in a two inch hitch, you put a little spacer thing on the 1.25 rack end, and then it fits the 2 inch hitch. Then it isn't centered, its slightly left or right of center. Your rack looks like 2 inch? I'm confused, lol.
Nathan yes, I got the 2". You can email them, but use the new website in the description. They answered my questions quickly. So far I'm loving it. Keep in mind that they recommend a max of 3. I might get an extra one.
Hi, ok, I am getting ready to order 2 inch hitch and that rack! ya. Say, I was wondering what are your thoughts of drilling a hole through hitch insert part of rack to put a hitch lock through the holes on side of hitch, ? I know there is the allen wrench security thing, but extra lock i would feel better, rack costs $$
Hi, thanks. Oh, I see, that's another way to lock it. Actually, I was thinking of a horizontal hitch lock, left to right, parallel with the bumper, that goes through the side of the car hitch, and through the part of bike rack that sticks into hitch tongue. Like you would have to drill a hole through the rack at that point where the side holes are in the hitch tongue, if that makes sense. See vid at 5:21, hole left to right parallel with bumper through hitch tongue and bike rack part that sticks into hitch tongue. As your rack sits at 5:21, could you just drill through hole in hitch on side and straight through rack insert part you think? That was my plan. I don't know.
Ahh, that's the biggest con of this system since that how traditional hitches lock. But with the ball system, I think the bolt that connects the ball might get in the way. The "pro" is that the ball inside the hitch is super tight to prevent any movement. The alternative is to use a custom chain and carabiner to connect the loop as seen at 5:21 to a hole drilled into the 1up. Someone else on youtube did that.
Why did you choose the Super Duty Rack instead of the regular Quik Rack? Is the additional $70 justified? Also I noticed they charge anyway from $30-$50 for the black color is there any additional benefit for getting black?
Content like this will be on my new review channel: ruclips.net/user/garycruzdotcom
Probably the most granular review for the 1UP and the 'That's what she said' reference is icing on the cake!
Super helpful walkthrough on the 1up rack! Much appreciated! 🤙🙏
Best review I’ve seen so far for this rack. Thank you!
Just bought one. Your video sold me. Great job and thank you!

That was a very well put together and detailed review. Great work and thanks for helping me decide on what bike rack to get!
Esteb858 glad it was helpful! I'd love to hear your thoughts when you get yours.
What a great video! This clinches my decision between the 1up and the Kuat nv 2.0. Going with the 1up!
Thanks for this - I just ordered this rack and will be putting it on my Dark Grey 2017 Mazda3 Hatchback as well!
How's it working out so far?
@@GaryCruz love it! Perfect for my Speedvagen gravel bike
Wow, I've been researching racks for three days now and was set on the kuat NV 2.0 but changed my mind due to hard to use bike release when loaded. The Thule XT pro had better placement but too much plastic involved for the price as compared to this one.
Very helpful. I just bought the 2" Double Super Duty Quik Rack (Silver). It will handle 75lb per bicycle. This is perfect for my 2 Ebikes.
Cool! Please comment when you get it installed. I'd love to hear your thoughts for the eBikes.
Thank you so much for this video. Got the Super Duty for the Super 73 and will be installing today! This is VERY HELPFUL. You are appreciated!
How is it working out so far?
It's GREAT. I'm really happy with this purchase. It's solid but light enough for me take it off and on whenever I need to really easily. Now i'm going places!
Really appreciate this setup and review, I just purchased the same setup also.
Ordered rack yesterday, same set up, thanks!
Nathan nice! Let me know how it goes!

Great video, awesome "That's what she said" jokes. I just received my new 1up rack. It's worth every penny.
Do you still use it?
Wha are chances that the red lever gets lifted while driving the car due to bumpy road conditions and the support on wheels gets loose ?
Has never happened. Seems like a lot more people use this for MTB though! I'll try to post updates on my new gear channel if you want to sub there: ruclips.net/channel/UCy7F4iJbilFoq4pPo1tEHxQ
Any update on the use and durability of the 1-UP looking forward to it.
Still working great! I've used it with 4 bikes too!

Ouch! Keep me posted if you get one. I plan to do a real review after using this for awhile.
Nice video but did I miss how it's actually secured into the hitch?
USMC5900 yes, it has a ball that is tightened inside the hitch. I use the supplied secure wrench to tighten it.
Thanks alot! I ordered mine for a Mazda 3 hatch 5 minutes ago!
Zoom Zoom!

Haven't had any issues with it. Some folks use a U Lock.
Great review awesome product with funny innuendo 😂

Bruno Salcedo on the same boat. They're both good.
Does this Mazda has a 1.5 or 2.0 inch receiver ?

florihupf thanks! I try to answer questions I had before getting this.
Gary Cruz yeah. Just ordered one.
Wonder if you could do 4 bikes.
I did!
Great video!
Thanks! Did you get one?
I'm convinced this is the bike rack for me thank you.
I felt real dumb because I couldn’t figure out how you tilted in the beginning. Also my blue levers were suuuuper tight and I had to use the Allen wrench to unlock and lock them
Don't feel bad, I was confused when I first got it. I was confused again when I got another extender since I forgot how I did it the 1st time!
Nice review, thanks!
Great setup and helpful video. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful! Did you get one?

Weird question but where's the serial number located..? I can't find it on my rack
Peace
Gary nice video, it will helpful if mentioned the price. Thanks
Do you think getting the wheel lock is really needed if I plan getting the 12" cable lock?
If someone really wants your bike, they will cut ANY lock.
I notice with the bikes loaded, its nearly impossible to read the plates. Don't the cops pull you over if they can't read the plates?
They could, they sell a plate mount if you want. I haven't had any issues with them.
Excellent video, hope you're getting a commission because of you I'll be getting one of these (when available). 👍
No commission, just wanted to make a video to help answer questions I had when shopping for this rack.

Gary Cruz thanks! sure enough, when i added to cart, it directed me to new website, more options there.
Did you consider the Super Duty Double? Did you go this route to have the option of just carrying around one bike at times?
Yes, I wanted an option to just go with one bike. I've also added a 3rd.
Can you really have 4 bikes? Or is it limited to 3? Cuz i to want to get a single rack for when i go alone and the option for 4 bikes
Hi, ok, I am getting ready to order 2 inch hitch and that rack! ya. damacknificent151 no rust or fading
Nice plates: HUMAN.

Only because I wanted a native 2" connector. No additional benefit from black other than matching my car hehe
Make some more bike videos. :)
Want to sell? 😂It’s hard to get these racks!
I hope you can get yours! I use ours all the time!
