    Another tip for fendered fat bikes is to remove some air from your fat tires, set the wheel bars then add some air back to the tires. 10psi should be more than enough. Allowing the tires to sort of mold around the bar.

  • @MumfordJim
    @MumfordJim 2 года назад +4

    You should load you heaviest bike 1st, closest to the hitch!
    I Have owned a 1up for about 5 years and love it. So easy to put your bike on and handles the weight. All of my bikes a step thru and do not have a crossbar. Plus with several e-bikes I needed to handle the weight.
    I put painters tape on it so I know how far to insert the bar into the hitch. As I recall it should be inserted about 3 or 4 inches read the directions.

    Hello from Ouray, CO. My wife and I just purchased E-Lux Tahoe GTs. We almost exclusively ride off pavement on National Forest and Bureau of Land Management dirt roads and such. Plus, with some physical ailments, we preferred the "cruiser" geometry. And, of course, being out in the backcountry with hills, mesas, etc, the bigger battery capacity and wheel motor is great.
    Yes sir...this is a very helpful video! Thank you for sharing it with us! These 1Ups look like awesome racks! We also exclusively boondock in our solar equipped travel trailer. So, we need a rack that is "travel trailer approved"; which the 1UP is! We also have fat tires and a rear fender that comes down most of the rear wheel. So, I'm glad to see a fat tire and fender protection option (with the bumper pad). With this rack, I think I will also ratchet strap the wheels to the ramps for the added security; but also to also prevent that rear wheel rising and causing additional force onto the fender and the bumper pad.
    Thank you again!! Awesome video!

    Great video. It led me to buying the 1UP rack. One suggestion: instead of using tie downs, you can secure the rack arms by running a line of parachute cord with small hooks on either end into the holes in the rack arms. Pair the cord with a ratchet style tightening system as you will want the cord extremely taunt. Cheers.

    What a great review. Really liked the way you demonstrated the flexibility of the rack to accommodate different brands of bikes, and the practical suggestions you gave for obtaining additional security, like through the use of an additional strap and the foam pads. This rack is definitely a contender. Our application would be a RadCity 5+ Step-Thru and a RadCity 5+ High-Step. Both have fenders, and the rear fenders extend down really far as you would expect for a commuter application - and the fenders are not easily removable. Any suggestions for a cover for the bikes that would keep them clean during transit? Another thing we're looking for is some sort of cover or plug for the battery well. There are electrical contacts at the lower end of the well that probably should be protected somehow. Any ideas for this too?

    • @EbikeEscape
      @EbikeEscape  2 года назад

      I only have experience with the Pro Bike Tool cover though to be honest I usually go without. Here is my affiliate link if you're curious: amzn.to/3FfXld1 You may also find some good info on the Rad Owners forum: radowners.com
      Rad sells their own battery terminal covers: radpowerbikes.pxf.io/bax2AM I assume we will eventually see options on Etsy or 3D printed ones if they aren't already available. The plastic fenders are a bit of a challenge with this rack since you want to be careful. I haven't tried our RadCity on it just yet.

    I like that it's from Wisconsin! There was no mention of locking features, on either the hitch or the bike mounts. The problems it has with bikes with fenders or racks/accessories is something the company needs to address - I don't want to be messing around with aftermarket straps that may or may not work. Also, before calling it one of the best racks available I would like to hear that you'd used it regularly for at least a few weeks prior to the review. It does look high quality and heavy duty, but there are many other proven racks out there for the price they are asking. I subscribed and liked....

      I use this rack all the time and love it. You could use a chain lock to protect them - most of the integrated locks with racks are cable locks which aren't very secure.

    I got one delivered a couple of weeks ago. The rack is not cold-weather friendly. No way I could move the blue levers without loosening then first. I assume because it was cold outside. The loading ramp wouldn't fit on the mounting bolts until I reamed the holes with a Dremel. I added their extender handle at extra $$$. I don't know why it has keyhole holes except to give you an option to assemble it the wrong way. I can barely tuck a 1Up bracket under the rear fender of an Aventon Aventure. Also, I hate having SAE hardware on a rack made for bikes that all use metric wrenches.

    • @EbikeEscape
      @EbikeEscape  2 года назад

      I found that the blue levers were pretty snug for unfolding the rack but haven't needed to use them since. Good to know it works with the Aventon Aventure even if it is tricky to get set up for the first time. I'm not familiar with the extender handle you are talking about - do you have a link? Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

      The QuikR has up to 120lb capacity per tray, unlike the 1Up super duty which is 75lb. You can also get a QuikR with the same capacity in a 1 1/4" mount, where the 1UP 1.25 is max of 50lb. the QuikR is already setup for fat tire bikes where the 1Up needs an expansion kit. That said, I have a 1Up for a few years and it is excellent for my purposes. I _am_ about to get a 77lb fat tire bike (in addition to two lighter ebikes) and while I will exceed the max capacity by a couple of pounds, I don't think I need to worry when my 240lb self can easily stand and bounce on the 1Up with no problem.

One question: I saw a different written review (and only one thus far) that mentioned being unable to use a conventional locking hitch pin (5/8" diameter) through the receiver and this 1UP rack, because the slot in the post of this rack is too narrow. Is that truly the case? If this reviewer is correct, that is a terrible design flaw! I need to be able to use my AMPLOCK U-HLP58 | 5/8" Hitch Pin Lock to secure something this expensive. Thanks!

    How’s a Super73 fit? The wheels are really wide and small diameter.

      Shorter tires will work with the adjustments but some of the widths on the Super73s could be too large.

      @@EbikeEscape Thanks, I figured it out - kind of. It was 50% user error 50% on them, they’re sending me a replacement bar and knob that I can swap in but I was able to get the rack to engage and change positions. However the black knob is still stuck in the "unlocked" position on the gold bar and won't screw down, so they're sending me a new gold bar and black knob that I can swap in, they said it was likely a problem with the threading.

    • @holmgrel
      @holmgrel 2 года назад

      I ended up purchasing the rack to use with my Radwagon 4 and it works great! Since the radwagon is so large I do use a ratchet strap to hold the center of the frame down to the base as well. I really don’t think I need to do that but I typically drive on highways for almost 2hrs each way so adding a strap takes minimal time for extra piece of mind. I did not get the ramp and it’s definitely tricky getting the bike on alone. I lift the front wheel then the back wheel then slide the bike one bike tray at a time closer to the car. I am hoping to purchase the ramp hardware from 1up so I can get the bike on more easily without actually needing the entire ramp.

    • @EbikeEscape
      @EbikeEscape  2 года назад

      The Hollywood Rack? It's still a great option and I have used it a lot before I received this new rack. I find the 1UP USA rack faster to load up different bikes but I'm unique in that I'm always hauling different ebikes. I like that the 1UP rack is all aluminum and seems of better build quality but it also costs more. There are definitely tradeoffs either way.

    So it can only hold 150lbs of bikes? Not the 225lbs in the thumbnail.

    • @EbikeEscape
      @EbikeEscape  2 года назад

      I can see how that could be confusing, but the capacity per their website is 225 lbs:
      - Increase bike capacity to 3 bikes (50 - 75 lbs) or 4 bikes (50 lbs or less) with additional Add-Ons (sold separately)
      - Total carrying capacity of up to 225 lbs (50-75 lbs per bike spot) due to added support bar under tray

    Your review is lacking alot. I have a 1UP rack and the way you put your Lectric bike on the rack will tear up the fenders. This rack will not hold an e-bike securely and there is a lot of movement of the bike going down the road (again, speaking to e-Bikes with fenders). If you mount a second bike, or even a third, the rails for the tires are too close together which will rub your pedals against the frames of the bikes as you go down the road. I suggest you mount your bikes on the racks as you did here, and go for a 30-40 mile drive and see how much damage you have to the frame and record how much the bikes move.
    All that said, this rack is likely perfect for standard road bikes and it is a VERY sturdy rack. If you have an e-Bike with no fenders, very likely that this rack will work fine in transporting your bike, however, pay close attention to the pedals for all bikes as they will rub frames which is frustrating to say the least.

    Mounting it to the back of my F150. Thanks guys this was helpful.

    • @EbikeEscape
      @EbikeEscape  2 года назад

      From my understanding the total weight capacity for bikes on the Super Duty rack is 225lbs. The XP 2.0 weighs in at 64lbs. So 4 XP 2.0s would come in at about 30lbs over the total weight rating of the 1up Super Duty.
      The XP lite only weighs 46 lbs. So you could maybe mount a mix of 2.0s and Lites. Or you could also fold one or two of the bikes up and stash them on the f150. Good Luck.
      Email us over a picture if you ever get that beast of a setup going.

    Every review can’t be the best ever. What comparisons have you done, especially of the lectric bike? It doesn’t appear to be any better than a Hollywood and doesn’t really fit well on tires. P.s. I would cut the bars to get then under the racks. Plus it’s $200 more….

    • @EbikeEscape

      Hi John, I have extensive experience with the Hollywood Rack. It is also a good rack and I'd still recommend it but for my use the 1UP USA bike rack is superior. The 1UP rack also is built better and won't rust (important for me since I live in Wisconsin). It takes me way less time to throw on two ebikes on the 1UP Rack due to not having to adjust for different wheelbases. While I am aware of the benefits of a more click-baity title such as this I don't say 'best' lightly. In my opinion, this is the best rack for me that is available. Hope that helps and thanks for checking the video out!

    I think this was a good review. However, I think you left out a VERY important point. The bike rack covers your license plate and tail lights. Both of these are serious safety hazards thar are illegal and can cause you to get pulled over and ticketed if the officer wants to give an easy ticket. This would've been a great opportunity to emphasize this and show the options for avoiding this safety hazard.

    • @EbikeEscape
      @EbikeEscape  2 года назад +2

      Hi Raymond - they do sell some accessories to address these issues. I might add my own DIY rear light but I am personally not worried about the license plate. Plenty of bike racks makes it hard to see the license plate. If I get pulled over perhaps I'll change my tune :) Great points though!
