Tom Johnston--outstanding singer. He can sing anything--rock, blues, R&B, country and whatever else. He's voice is still strong after all of these years. It's cool the Doobies are in the R&R Hall of Fame.
One of the first album's (vinyl) I bought! Worn-out long ago! Then got the "8 track" Worn out..Then got the cassette..worn out..Then got the 'cd' well, still playing it!Loud n proud! Real Classic Rock! Go D'bros!! keep looking to the east! Amen
I attended this taping as a Doobie Brothers superfan, and it was an amazing opportunity to see these guys rock out right in front of me! As always, they sounded incredible live!!!
Look kids, real music. And yup, they're older than your parents. Yeah, you kids grew up with all this cool technology, but we had good music. And it was everywhere, free.
@@slashfan1019 But only for what it is, such as someone fed daily a diet of sugar and McDonalds food. There is a wealth of good things out there before one's teens that is readily available. Just seek them out and press go!
My favorite Doobie Brothers song from the fall of 1973. Saw them at the Assembly Hall at the University of Illinois in December of that year. Rock on, DB!
... wow Tom Freakin' Johnston... just needed to be expressed again.. though I never heard him play/sing with the DB's, his vocals and playing are iconic to the early DB's songs... memories flooding back...
The Doobies were my fave on 8 track in y car and we covered China Grove in our band. Watching the masters at work on GMA just brings it full circle to home. The Doobie Brothers!
I've been to about 15 Doobie concerts since 1974. Original members Tom Johnston and Pat Simmons are still out there rockin' and sounding better than ever!
i've been a fan since the early '70s seeing them 3 or 4 times at Winterland. i'm happy they're still rocking. Sounds like they were blasting on stage. Mics can barely handle things. Yeah!!
Mom bought me the 45 in 73 and I slowly cranked the ole PHILCO 60W up to MAX and the Oldman hollered TURN THAT S*** DOWN!...The folks came in this week from SC and I hooked up my lil VOX amp to the I/O and BLLasted this video. The Oldman, (now 81) hollered upstairs TURN THAT S*** DOWN!..Took me back instantly to that first play of the 45..LOL
I LOVE YOU!!!! Rock On!!!!! your album was my first record in Memphis Tn. as a young girl. I have LOVED you for 5 decades!! Listening in May 2020!! Patrick Simmons!! My Forever Secret Crush!!!!))) Keep on Listening to the Music!!))))
Good to see TJ alive and kickin! My grandfather was his age when this album released. When ever I have to travel as soon as I hit the highway and set the cruise, I play Road Angel and Lost Without You with the volume set on “nuclear”
I was lucky to grow up with tunes like this.. It brings me back to a younger times when everything was Cool and Groovy.. Yes I said it Groovy man everything is Cool...
Sounded fantastic, gentlemen! Back in the day, I saw you every time you went to Kansas City! You guys gave the best concerts! Once I got bruises all over the palms of my hands and finger from clapping to your beat and applause! So glad to see ya still rockin'!
horseygurl143 Me too! Just saw them in again in KC last night for the umpteenth time (and not the last, if I have anything to do with it!). Loved every second!! Man, can they still rock! They sound amazing!!!
Kelly - I'm so jealous!!! You know that the Doobie Brothers are great when folks like you are braving the elements just to see 'em! I can imagine how much fun the concert was! Take care!
winter of '75; the gym at App State is packed and I'm standing in front of the stage about 3 rows back- those guys rocked for 2 hours in incredible harmony- maybe as much fun was watching how the Brothers were enjoying putting on the show- man, they were good..
We look so old now us 60's kids but we can still rock. Tommy and Pat are still the heart and soul that made San Jose special all those years before silly-con valley' took over.
That, young children, is Rock and Roll.
Ladies and gentleman this is how rock and roll is done
Amen brother
Have to agree (well it’s there in Black and White). Did you see what I did there? 😉
You said it sir.
You got that right!!!!
My very first concert 1977 in Fort Wayne Indiana. Amazing!
Tom Johnson is 70 this year. Still amazing!
Younger people in the audience are like: "Wtf, i didn't knew music could be thís good!!"
Yes kids!! Thís is real music!!
You are Right
I'm not even 18 years old, this is one of my all time favourite songs
Fact ! Back when the band played their own instruments AND sang WITHOUT auto tune. I was so glad when the original lineup reunited
Real talent. Tom Johnston hasn't lost a beat. Sounds as great as ever
Couldn't be anymore true
He has lost the upper register, several throat surgeries, not as much bite to the vocals like 1971, but not embarrassing himself either
daughter Laura is awesome to the Apple didn't fall far from the tree
The patronizing "he sounds better than ever" syndrome is very popular on social media.
The old boys can still rock.Whats left of them.Simmons,Johnston,McFee
This version sounds absolutely immense. Props to whoever mixed this on the air
AGREED. They had to have had their own sound guy do it.
@@Dustin2112 they do, his name is paul, great guy !

God damn, that was awesome. Didn't expect them to sound quite this good.
Say what you will, my friends, but that may be the best rock and roll song ever.

Follow up to the immortal "Long Train Runnin'". In Sept, 1973 you seldom went anywhere without hearing this song on the radio.
I see them in 2 months. That is how you do rock and roll. Period.
Love this band, China Grove a true rock classic.....
I attended this taping as a Doobie Brothers superfan, and it was an amazing opportunity to see these guys rock out right in front of me! As always, they sounded incredible live!!!
God bless you Masters of real rock!!!! Been listening to them since the early 70's!!!!!!
I am overall just proud to be apart of a great rock n roll culture. So to all who share similar view thank you and god bless
And John Cowan on bass! D Bro's haven't lost a single beat! Rockin on through the ages !
He's a good bassist, has great voice! 🎶🎶

yep, just needed this thing called a radio...no subscription required.
I enjoy my Justin Bieber and my four chord whore Ed Sheehan though

yes, just thinking that like so many lifers in the music business it's the playing that keeps them fueled...
Solid drummer man.
Awesome group
One of the best bands ever! Great musicians, songwriters, and their music is timeless. So glad they are still with us.

As they first recorded - fine fine musicians
It sounds way better than the studio original! Impressive.
Sounds even better 50 years later. These guys are incredible!
Damn! It's so cool to see these old timers still killin it
When old guys rock harder and better than young upstarts--you know something is fundamentally wrong with music today.
When the old guys ROCK...WE...
still listen, smile and tap that foot 😊
@@davidyoung2606because no matter how technically proficient a young band is IMO you can't beat the originals...
One of the iconic guitar riffs of all time ... from their 1973 album "The Captain and Me" which was filled with original songs as good as this.
