I won't write a full blown paragraph but I will say that:
    1. I had no online friends
    2. Warframe was the first game I touched on the PS4
    3. I met alot of good friends through Warframe that I still play with to this day
    4. Warframe keeps evolving and content keeps coming in (even community created content)
    5. DE is one of very few game developers that listens to there community religiously
    6. ....Clem!

First "I feel like there's nothing left to do" cap comes after 1k hours, second one 1.5k-2.5k,and if you can play 3000 hours without a very long break you're likely to be able to play indefinitely (I'm personally the type who kinda quit after 2k hours, and looks back frequently).
There are dark corners of this at first sight very lovely community. Most of it comes from:
-The differing opinions of youtubers and their fanbases
-People who hit the before mentioned caps, and want more and better instead of DE's quite frequently lackluster updates (that simply comes from DE not having enough resources to do more&better)
      -Forum people being...forum people
-Some of the shady stuff going on at DE's account management & community management departments.

    • @Nokomak
      @Nokomak 7 лет назад

You may think the community is great, til you realize no one gives a shit about you. It'll come. Got over 800 hours myself. Listen to a veteran and get out while you can. Or become a cash cow for DE and their sky high prices. And oh trust me you will end up spending money if you want to get ANYWHERE in it.

It was always the same framework but over the years it's been filled in and polished and now it's finally at the point that it deserves this praise. I could always feel the potential and kept checkin back in with the game until finally just a few months ago I actually got hooked. I never did before.

Skill Up, I picked this game up a couple of weeks ago and have been pestering my friends with what I thought were neat mechanics and smart design choices in a game with great style. Last night I finished The Second Dream. I sat in shock with a dumb grin on my face for probably a solid minute, then I immediately started messaging those same people, now PLEADING with them to play this game so they could experience what I thought was the most impactful gaming experiences I've encountered. The fact that this is delivered this far in a game is shocking, but what is even more incredible is that it is within a game that is Free To Play, a category that is often rightfully derided for being bereft of meaningful story or even good design.
I played Warframe in 2013 and put it down after only a couple of hours, it simply wasn't for me. Now, in 2017, it's my game of the year. This game, while flawed, has grown into a masterpiece and is a testament to what a dedicated and talented team of developers can accomplish when they truly care about their product. I have nothing but respect for Digital Extremes and can't wait to experience the stories they tell in the future.

Man.. Your videos about Warframe are full of soul and the real feeling a true Warframe player has. They touch me in strange ways, but I like it a lot. I have 650hs of this game. I'm one of those that played the first days of Warframe's Beta, and waited years without knowing what I was doing in that galaxy until Second Dream came out. That quest made my chin drops. Heart pumppin and mixed feelings almost made me cry at the end. I think their flaw is with endgame content. After so much time playing, and having everything you wanted at max level, you don't have enough stuff to do, besides playing because it's cool, and not because you wanna reach some point of the game. Now, I just play Warframe when there's a cool update that I want to try out. But.. your videos.. makes me open Warframe just to play any mission there. I think you sell Warframe better than DE theirselves. Keep on the good work, man. I'm always showing your videos to people looking for new games to play.

The actual outcome of The Second Dream is just such an Option C choice. To explain what that means, in writing and storytelling (I believe it originated in the cinematic field), there's an idea that when you write the outcome or explanation of a key detail in your story, you have three options. Option A is the easiest- it's what most people would expect, because on a surface level it makes the most sense. Option B is when you get a bit creative- not everyone would expect what happens, but it's a logical counterpart or antithesis to Option A, or can be arrived at by another line of logic, so the more astute viewers might figure it out.
Option C is the core concept of the Masterstroke: something nobody in the audience could reasonably have expected, at the moment when it would be most impactful. It still makes sense, unless it doesn't need to, but for one reason or another, only the author could ever have seen it coming. The wild giraffes in The Last of Us are a brilliant masterstroke because they didn't need to be there, and are just a random touch of unexpected beauty when it would matter the most to the player. The Second Dream is different- this explanation, and these particular details of Warframe's lore, would eventually have mattered one way or another. This explanation was necessary. The Masterstroke of it was in executing this so deep into the game, both in real life and in-game, that people had been forming expectations on the subject for years, and still managing to do something completely unprecedented in its style and execution.

    • @thegrouchization
      @thegrouchization 9 месяцев назад

The irony is that for the players who were already invested into the lore, all of the clues were in the game long before the Second Dream came out.
The Ember Prime codex established the true nature of the Zariman survivors, and Vor's Prize has the titular character directly state the exact relationship between the warframes and the Tenno (albeit with some poetic phrasing).
The only thing we got wrong was that we believed the Tenno were energy beings, which isn't *too* far from the truth.

I've been playing Warframe for 3 years, and the meaning of The Second Dream is something I carry with great affection. The revelation I believe, has been much more shocking to those of us who have played for so long. I've always wondered if the new players could have a feeling close to what I have in relation to this quest, precisely because I think they would not have time to develop the necessary attachment.
Your video made me realize that the feeling exists, and that whoever is starting today may not feel the same impact I felt, but it will have the same meaning.
Thanks for this poetry in form of a video, you are one of the best acquisitions our community has ever had.

    • @marcosdheleno
      @marcosdheleno 7 лет назад +10

the reason it works, is exactly because it happens so late, it comes from left field, and you dont expect it to be as impactfull as it is. and it happens late enough for you to be getting close to the end game, so you have in your head the idea that you saw everything the game has to offer.
the best part is, its done so well, that it brings the people that are in just for the gameplay, and the loot, into the lore.

they really did implement so many changes, that it feels closer to warframe 3, if compared with the "vanilla" release version. from the skills changes, to the ovehaul of the parkour system, to the adition of the archwing(even when people dont enjoy it as much as me), to even the change of the relics and mod fusion, or the rework of the bosses.
the game is completely diferent now.

I was 80 hours into WF when I got to the second dream. Before hand me and my buddy were only playing to have fun, gameplay was amazing but story was almost nonexistent. My buddy got to the second dream before I did and simply told me “get off our chat, and go play this” and I did. And what blew me away the most about this quest wasn’t just how well designed it was, not how shocking, not how far into the game it is. But how the Tenno are not super soldiers, not gods, not beings higher than us. But scared, fragile, broken children, they are the child within us. And after this I rushed through and made it to new war, hands down the best quest in the game. But possibly one of the greatest quests ever next to the second dream. My buddy (like I before second dream) was falling off and wasn’t sure if it was worth it. I repayed him by buying him the Necramech (he can’t really grind because of his work life) and I simply told him “go save space mom.” And 6 hours after that he simply told me “hey it’s 2 am over here and I just got done with the quest, easy 9/10.” He helped me in April, and I helped him in August, and I don’t regret grinding through this game and paying to have my buddy finish the story because personally it was all worth it.

@@gabekillaire1588 The War Within is cool but just cannot compare to The Second Dream.
Before you go through the second dream you have a completely different perception of the game itself.
As he wrote it in the description, it is "just" this weird space ninja action game. It confuses you on many levels but it is kind of fun so you keep going even though there are things that frustrate you (like a hell of a lot of missing / badly displayed information within the game). And then you reach this point, the cutscene starts and suddenly everything you thought you knew about the game falls apart, changes, and becomes absolutely amazing.
DE is damn brave to put this so far into the game, many people will have quit the game before reaching this point and will never see it, but those who bite through the few shortcomings of the game will be greatly rewarded by one of the best moments in their gaming history. I'm pretty sure a lot of those who make it past this point end up to be very loyal fans of the game and that's incredibly important for developers who kinda do their own thing instead of following common market practices.

I have every prime frame even the vaulted ones (not Excalibur tho) made enough plat from trading to get all I want for fashion frame I.e deluxe skins armor and other such. And I have invested a great time in the game and feel prideful about it. I'm sure lots of us can say that it feels good go show a newbie the ropes or have them admire our hard work. The grind for me could get boring but I still like going around and killing everything with my ash like I'm guts from berseker with my huge anime sword(heavy blade skin). So as a older Tenno to you, keep enjoying the game and having fun with it. I know I do.

all of that keeps me engaged. (not without breaks ofcourse, sometimes i takes a 2 week break to play other games but i ALWAYS coem back after 2 weeks even if its just to visit baro'ki'teer and see what he offers this fortnight.

Whenever I'm feeling disappointed because I don't have many friends that appreciate the same games or entertainment I do, I often come back to this video. SkillUp knows how to set up a narrative like no other reviewer I know, and deliver and deliver a satisfying payoff while explaining the best and worst parts about an experience. This is one of his best videos ever, showing off his creative skill, while setting up a clear argument for what makes the Second Dream incredible. Seeing someone else appreciate the Second Dream this much gives me confidence that I'm not crazy. This is one of the most amazing experiences in gaming. I'm glad I got to play it when it released. And it gives me more confidence that my preferences and tastes in gaming are valid.

It's been nearly two weeks since we started, I've now got 4 frames and about to complete another 3. Now..there are about a couple of dozen frames to go..so much content!
I actually purchased Oberon Prime. I felt compelled to pay for what I've received from this game so far. Did I feel cheated or aggrieved upon buying the pack? Not in the slightest.
With buying things like ME andromeda, Battleborn..in the past. No way do I feel cheated. I feel thankful that a company created this game to play, enjoy and still expand upon. Great simple touches make all the differences here.

Update as of December 2023: Digital Extremes is releasing the Whispers in the Walls content, which is going to decouple Mastery Rank from story quest prerequisites, and the previous update, Abyss of Dagath, also included a number of quest and Junction streamlines, and also improved the free mods you get from the early game and upgraded the base starting weapons you get from the first quest you play...making the bulk of the early game MUCH smoother...to the point where if a person is focused up enough, they can probably reach Second Dream in a week, or even less, a single day.
There's still a lot to do in the early game, but I don't feel this makes Second Dream any less of a masterstroke, just because it no longer takes anywhere near 100 or 150 hours to reach it.

I always saw people asking for help with the quest in the chat, in the earlier times around when I came back to the game last summer and I never understood what they were talking about. (Had only given it the week it had before destiny beforehand since I thought the free plat was the end of it, and I had no idea what to even do). When I accidentally stumbled my way into it, rather than using a guide, my mind blew by the fact I even walked into a bunch of cutscenes. It took me longer to realize what I was even doing, but I knew it was huge. Then the reveal took me by storm and the music roared something inside my heart me only halo's ever could do. Even loving destiny's soundtrack didn't touch base with it either (maybe some of D2's tho cx ) Afterwards, I fell for the game harder than anything ever before, it basically sucked my summer vacation dry. The Second Dream will forever remain one of the most moving experiences a game has ever offered me.

DE should remaster the older quests before Second Dream. The quests before Second Dream are very outdated in terms of their production values compared to the ones after. As a long time Warframe player I wouldn't mind also if DE created quests that take place before the continuity of Second Dream.

I know your comment is a year old, but I thought I'd mention:
Steve and Rebecca did an interview with Mogamu, and they touched on this. Basically, nearly everyone in the studio works on every part of the game, new and old. They have so much they want to do to the "new player experience." But that coupled with the larger expansions they have, and will be putting out. They know they have spread themselves too thin. So as they like to say on devstream, "it's in the works." Lol

As someone who as nearing 2000 hours in Warframe, this video made me smile so much. The way you describe the Second Dream and the concept of a master stroke is EXACTLY why I wish more people would give Warframe a 2nd chance. I know so many people who stopped playing Warframe with less than 100 hours in the game because they got bored of it or found it too repetitive. Its a shame because the wait for the Second Dream and what lays ahead of it is so undeniably worth it. Also thank you for this video. You have very quickly become one of my favorite RUclipsrs.

Kinda bummed that you used Dark Souls in your "masterpiece, but no masterstroke" footage. It had a masterstroke if I've ever seen one - right at the very end of the very last game, when the theme of the Soul merges with that of Gwyn. Never have I witnessed a series (be it book, game or TV) ending a story so perfectly. Everything there is to be told has been told, and this change of theme reveals (to the observant player) that everything they did for hundreds of hours, through three long-ass games, was, in the end, futile, as the fire will just fade again after your soul was added to the Soul of Cinder. That's why I believe the fading of the flame is the true ending of Dark Souls. It doesn't corrupt the fire, as that would leave a fire to be rekindled (which is why both Dark Souls 1 endings work perfectly fine with the overall lore), and it doesn't rekindle the fire. The wheel doesn't stop turning, it is shattered.

yeah, I remembered every theory of Warframe back in 2013. And the Second Dream is basically the "naah, no way, this doesn't make any sense" theory and bombed us with this ending makes the whole twist is more crazier.

I just recently begun to play this game, i'm just a few hours into it; i only unlocked Venus and got my first mastery exam and i'm completely into it! From the awesome gameplay, the possibilities with the Warframes and how you can actually get them by playing and grinding like a Champ, and how his world felt deeper than AAA games like Destiny or Tom Clancy's games (With it's exceptions of course) made me belief! I have to admit this is one of the best F2p games i have ever played and i'm pretty happy to say that by now, i'm a full and proud Tenno for life, i'm glad i found this game and it's awesome community, and thanks for make me understand what lies ahead in this experience!

just like the quest, this video was well made. i really like it when people talk about things that make some games so special. the reveal of anor londo in dks1 beats any other reveal in dks3 because we have been fighting through dingy and brutal fights to see this amazing spectacle that me and many other players never saw coming. dks 3 shows its beautiful views at the start and it doesn't feel nearly as satisfying as anor londo does, the reveal of irithyl could have been something even more special if the whole game wasn't big reveals on beautiful areas beforehand. games need to pace special and memorable moments perfectly through their games or they just won't be memorable. if the whole of warframe had been twists and lore bombs, you expect it with every quest, when you know something huge is coming it ruins the element completely. side note i didn't even know i cared about this topic nearly as much as i did until i watched this video, thanks my dude

      TheDustyChinchilla 'warframe is amazing'
Financially stable player who simply likes coming home after a long day, and booting up a casual loot grinder, with some of the pest customisation options in gaming. Realizing that fashion frame is true end game, and that running missions beyond 1hour means Insta-death enemies, they instead use their time finding innovative ways to farm resources, and keep themselves busy by building a clan solely for the purpose of investing said resources into something.
They also have spend quite a pretty penny on cosmetics and forma bundles.

I've played Warframe and Destiny a lot now, around 200 hours in each, and I can honestly say I prefer Destiny. Lots of people say that Destiny is grindy, and it totally is, but at least there's a goal (beat raid on hard mode/get max gear score). Warframe feels like those clicker games like AdVenture Capitalist where you think it's fun until you realize you could be playing forever and there's no real satisfaction that comes with beating a raid. Finishing the star map is pretty underwhelming, and maxing out a frame only to realize there are 50 others to unlock just doesn't feel good. Warframe is just grinding the same missions over and over with a tileset that you've seen hundreds of times before just to get the resources needed for your next frame. It lacks the sense of discovery I got when I first started playing Destiny. Once you've been to a few planets in Warframe, you know that's what the rest of the game is going to be like except for some strange quests later on.

I remember, after completing that quest, I kept sitting on my chair for around an hour without doing anything. The screams of Margulis were ringing in my head, and I was crying as if I have lost someone who was really dear to me. I have not played much games, but even if I did, I would still say Margulis and Lotus are two of the best mother-figures among the whole gaming industry.

The Second Dream was fantastic I just experienced it a few weeks ago and you’re right, the emotion wouldn’t have been the same if it was just given cheaply and quickly; you have feel the development of the story, live with the characters for a while. You know it was special to you because when you try to describe what had happened the person opposite you looks blankly and says “...cool”
I had the same moment trying to describe the BSG episode Unfinished Business or trying to describe Bioshock. Loving this game and glad you’re reviewing it and helping giving it the spotlight it deserves. Keep it up dude!

@Skill Up I just want to tell you that im so glad you made it through the second dream, congratulations. I also would like to inform you that in the codex there are bios on specific warframes that explain a hidden past in pieces. Bios such as: excalibur, ember prime, rhino prime, mag prime, and the stalker. What makes this special is the fact it was here for 2 years before the second dream was even announced. DE is amazing! And I hope your read this.

honestly the fact most people quit before reaching second dream i think just proves that warframe only rewards players who are willing to put in the effort. if you are unable to do the 20 to 30 hour grind to reach second dream then you havent earned the right to witness one of the best moments in gaming. the moment when you see just how deep the rabbit hole goes and once you have begone desending you will never want to stop till you reach its end

Damn you Mr Skill Up! Every time I have a frustrating time on Warframe (usually after a Spy mission, grrr) I think I will take and break and do something else with my time (such as talk to my wife, walk the dogs, watch tv, bathe, eat, etc).
I then, however, hop on to RUclips and inevitably catch your latest vids.
Your goddam enthusiasm for this game just reminds me why I am playing the game in the first place. The grind is on!!

"Vanishing Grace", the name of the piece that plays during that iconic Last of Us scene, I think has, to be one of my favorite gaming pieces ever. Its either that or "Dearly Beloved" from Kingdom Hearts. Its so subtle, and haunting, but beautiful and when you analyse, there's so much more room to add other melodies, harmonies or other instruments but it's perfect as it is because of where in the game it's placed. Gustavo you are a legend in my eyes
