    If you have photos stored on your Google Drive, and you want to move them to Google Photos, you could download them from Google Drive and then upload them to Google Photos.
    But that is really not ideal, it can take a really long time if your internet is slow, and if you have a limit on how much internet you can use every month, you might even be charged extra fees.
    But luckily in this video, Timmy shows you how you can transfer photos directly from Google Photos to Google Drive without any downloading or uploading. It's much faster, easier, and doesn't put a strain on your internet connection.

      @@techtimewithtimmy that's what I have already thought about, but it looks that pictures are copied, not moved, as I can still see them every time I start again. So you need to scroll down again, and that takes ages. Now I figured out, that if you select all pictures while in Windows Explorer (where you can easily select all of them) from your Google Drive (I have just downloaded/updated the old Back Up & Sync desktop app and it is possible to select it in WE), and hold and release in the Google pictures tab in your browser, they start finally to copy. All it is, I have somehow in the past copied pictures from google pictures to google drive (this has got to do with google freaking mixing their services allll the bloody time), and I want to delete them but to make sure that I won't delete something that is not in google pictures. So first I'll move then/copy and then delete, so I am sure. I hate when they change everything all the time and google is a master with it

    Hi, wanted to inquire whether the space would remain same or double (i.e. GDrive and GPhotos uses same GCLoud space, so are the photos moved or copied (i.e. as simply uploaded) which causes the photos to be redundant in both GDRive and GPhotos).
    Though I have a hunch it'd double as GDrive is meant as GCloud general.

    • @techtimewithtimmy
      @techtimewithtimmy  3 месяца назад

      Yes, the photos will use double the storage. But after you add them to Google Photos, you can delete them from Google Drive. So then they will only take up the same amount of storage as they originally did.

    If my photos in Google Drive are organized in folders, can I 'upload' the folder or do I first need to extract them from all folders before uploading?

    • @techtimewithtimmy
      @techtimewithtimmy  Год назад

      Unfortunately, you can't simply upload the folders like that. (It would be nice if you could).
      You could open one of the folders at a time when you're uploading to Google photos, select all the photos inside that folder and upload all those. Then repeat that process with each different folder.
      Or, you could move all the photos into one big folder in Google Drive beforehand and then upload them all at once.
      I would probably go with the first option, but either of them should work.
      Hope this helps.

      It would be really great if there was a way to sync between the two, but unfortunately, as far as I'm aware, there isn't.

      Unfortunately as far as I know there isn't a way to do that. To have all the photos together in Google Drive I think you would have to manually move them all into one big Google Drive folder one folder at a time.
      Or to get them all in Google Photos where they would be sorted automatically, I think the only way would be to do the process in this video 240 times.

    Hey bro, I'm Amazoning a new double screened home computer, what brand do you suggest that"s a really hardcore long-lasting and I'll never need another one again brand or whatever..?

    • @techtimewithtimmy
      @techtimewithtimmy  3 года назад +2

      Hi Occam,
      All the common computer brands are going to be pretty good, but what really matters is how good the specific model of computer is.
      If you're looking for a really powerful one to do things like video editing, you'll want to look for one that has an Intel core i7, core 19, or xeon processor and make sure it has more than 8GB of RAM.
      You'll want to get one with Windows 10 so that it has a wider selection of different apps you can install.
      I think Dell makes some good desktop computers but it will really come down to finding the most suitable one for you.
      Read the reviews on Amazon as they can often give you a good idea of how good it's going to be, and if you find one you like the look of you could even Google something like "(insert computer name here) review".
      It can also help to Google some specific things like "is the (insert computer name here) good for video editing".
      Sorry I couldn't give you a specific brand but really all computer makers make some good and some bad computers.
      Hopefully this helps you with your decision making.
      Sorry I took so long to respond, I've had a problem with my website that I had to fix and it took a while to do.

    • @techtimewithtimmy
      @techtimewithtimmy  3 года назад +2

      Yeah there are a lot of bad things about Windows 10 but unfortunately almost all desktop computers use it.
      You could try something like an Apple iMac pro and get a second screen to go with it if you want to give Apple's Mac OS operating system a try.
      amzn.to/3i2E6st
      Or you could try buying a Windows computer and installing Linux on it but that is quite difficult to do and then you will have the same problem as with a Chromebook where it is hard to find good apps to use.
      If you wanted to get a Chrome OS one, you can get computers called Chromeboxes which are basically desktop Chromebooks, but they are usually not very powerful and you will face the issue of trying to find good apps that will work on it.
      This Chromebox from ASUS should be reasonably powerful but it's not exactly "hardcore":
      amzn.to/3glzv46
      Despite all the negative things you hear about Windows 10, when it comes on a good new computer it can still be pretty good.
      You won't be able to buy a computer with Windows 8 on it anymore and you wouldn't want to because it would no longer receive updates and that would make it more likely to be hacked or get viruses.

    • @techtimewithtimmy
      @techtimewithtimmy  3 года назад +2

      Okay for that price range you will definitely be looking at either Windows 10 or Chrome OS.
      For Windows you could go with something like this acer one which should do fairly well but will probably start to slow down in 3 - 5 years:
      amzn.to/39ULQtK
      Windows 10 can have some problems when running on cheaper computers like this as it is a very demanding operating system.
      If you're happy with the app selection available on Chrome OS, a Chromebox might be a better option as it will be able to last longer on a cheaper device.
      This Acer Chromebox could be a good option but it only has 64GB of internal storage so you would need to use Google drive or a USB stick or external hard drive.

      Hi Margret, thanks for subscribing! Unfortunately I don't really have any videos on Google photos management.
      I do have a video on how to change the date of photos in Google photos:
      ruclips.net/video/BcDzV1XZbwU/видео.html
      But that won't really help with sorting albums into alphabetical order.
      But when you're looking at the list of all your albums, if you click/tap on "Last modified" in the top right hand corner, you should be able to choose "Album title", and then all your albums will be displayed in alphabetical order.

    does uploading from google drive to google photos take up more space

    • @techtimewithtimmy
      @techtimewithtimmy  Год назад

      Yes, uploading from Google Drive to Google Photos will effectively take up double the space, because you now have two copies of those photos.
      But once they're uploaded, you can safely delete the photos from Google Drive, and then you will only have one copy of them so it will take up just as much space as before.
      Regarding the folder issue, unfortunately you can't select an entire folder, you'll have to go inside the folder, select all the photos in it, and then upload them.
      Hope this helps.

    • @techtimewithtimmy
      @techtimewithtimmy  7 месяцев назад

      Thank you! You can transfer some at original quality and others at high quality (now called storage saver).
      Just set it to original quality and transfer everything you want as original quality, then change it to storage saver, and transfer everything you want as storage saver.
      Changing the setting only affects photos you add to Google Photos in the future, all of the photos that are already on Google Photos will stay in the quality setting they were added in.
      But unfortunately since this video was made, the "high quality" (now storage saver) option is no longer unlimited. Photos in the storage saver quality will now count towards your Google storage quota. They will take up less space than original because the file size will be smaller, but they're not unlimited anymore.

    • @techtimewithtimmy
      @techtimewithtimmy  3 года назад +3

      I think the only way to do it directly without having to download and reupload them would be to use a thing called Google takeout to have them exported to Google Drive in a zip folder, and then unzip the zip folder within Google Drive.
      To do this, go to:
      takeout.google.com/
      Then under "Select data to include", Click "deselect all", and then scroll down until you find Google Photos and click the checkbox next to Google Photos so that it's selected. If you then click on "All photo albums included", you will be able to choose which albums you want to export (if not all of them).
      Then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click "Next step". Then under "Delivery method, change it from "Send download link via email" to "Add to Drive". Leave everything else as it is but change the zip file size from "2 GB" to "50 GB". Then click create export.
      Depending how many photos you're exporting this could take a while, but once it's done you'll find a folder called "Takeout" in your Google Drive and in that folder will be a zip file with your photos inside.
      You can then unzip the zip file by following the steps in this video:
      ruclips.net/video/ZfnloYU8bZk/видео.html
      It's a bit of a complicated work around but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a better way.
      But you've given me a great idea to make a video on how to do this, so stay tuned in the coming weeks for that.
      Hope this helps.

    Thanks for the informative video! Quick Qs as follows:
    ➖ Is it possible to upload folders (already present in my Google Drive) to Google Photos?
    ➖ If not, I'll have to create albums (in Google Photos) corresponding to respective folders in my Google Drive, right?
    ➖ I understand the Google Photo storage consumption is considered under overall Google Drive storage, right? If so, while I upload my Google Drive photos to Google Photos, there won't be any implication for my Google Drive storage consumption, right?

    • @techtimewithtimmy
      @techtimewithtimmy  9 месяцев назад +2

      No, you can't upload folders to Google Photos like that. You have to upload them all to the main Google Photos section, then you can add them to albums.
      And while Google photos and Google Drive share the same storage quota, you are actually copying the photos from Google Drive to Google Photos. So the photos will essentially take up double the storage space when you add them to Google Photos.
      So after you copy the photos from Google Drive to Google Photos, you might want to delete them from Google Drive so that they won't take up any extra storage space.

      I'm sorry but I really don't have any idea why this would be happening. I've had a few people recently say they've had the same problem but I've never had that problem and I've never been able to suggest a solution.
      You could try clearing your browser cache and see if that solves it, I have a video on how to clear your cache in Google Chrome here:

      And Firefox here:

      ruclips.net/video/BWx-vN3nbZQ/видео.html
      Or if you use a different browser you can just search something like "how to use incognito mode in Microsoft Edge" or whatever browser you use.
      But other than the basic things like this, if the button still doesn't show up, I am really at a loss and I think the only thing you could do would be to download all the photos to your computer and re-upload them to Google Photos.

    How do I get photos out of Google photos from one folder and move some of those photos to another folder?

    • @techtimewithtimmy
      @techtimewithtimmy  2 года назад +1

      Do you mean moving photos from one Google Photos album to another? To do that, go into the album where the photos currently are and select the ones you want to move. Then, click on the plus icon in the top right hand corner, and click "Album" in the menu that appears.
      Now, you can choose the album you want to move the photos into, or create a new album, and then the photos will be added to that album.
      But they will still be in the original album, so to remove them from there, you'll need to select the photos again, then click on the three dots in the top right hand corner, and click "Remove from album".
      Now, the photos will no longer be in the original album, and they will be in the new album.

      Have you tried doing it in an incognito window of your browser? Sometimes various different cookies, browser extensions, or other things you have when your browser is in normal mode can cause websites to act weirdly.
