It’s all personal preference. For me, I gotta go physical. Especially if you only play select games and don’t need additional storage. Let the game hold the data for you. Plus resale value if you don’t keep your games after being done with them. Nintendo games hold value since they rarely go on sale.
    Edit to add:
What if you’re buddies wants to swap games but doesn’t want to buy it. Boom super simple.
And I pre-ordered skyward sword and it arrived at my house the day of release before the game store even opened.

Digital for game's that you'll play frequently.
Physical for games that you'll eventually finish and less likely to replay again ex: single player JRPGs.

For me the keepers like Smash Bros can be digital so they'll always go with me if needed, but 100+ hour RPG spectacles and similar games that I will play only once I buy physical so I can then trade it for something else.
Sure I'd like to have a wall full of games but I can't spare the space for that stuff.

So far, I've been going all digital, except for one game. I highly recommend you get one physical game (or keep one if you're getting rid of them). Why?
You can keep the one physical game in the Switch all the time. It can be your go-to game, or just a game that has a big file size. It's one less game you have to have on the Switch memory or SD card. But it's still always there. No reason to let the cartridge reader go to waste. And you won't lose the cartridge because it never leaves the Switch. Even better if it's a game you'll always go back to, because even if you switch out SD cards, it'll still be there for you.

With Switch I personally prefer buying physical cartridges. Sometimes I buy games digitally, but still prefer physical copies. It just brings me back to my childhood when I bought my first psp and went to the stores every weekend and looked at the shelves with games. Then when you buy a game, you can literally touch it :D I mean the box of course, but that feeling is so cool for me. So yeah, digital games have a lot of advantages, but I prefer to keep physical boxes on my shelf unit. Somewhat a collection :D

Dude it is such a pain to use 2 switches. I tried using a lite and the og back and forth and certain games do not support cloud saves. This isn’t the way you want to figure out how many games fall into that category like I did lol. The only thing that makes me skeptical about digital games is the inevitable closure of the switch store like we’ve seen with every other console other. I really wish backwards compatibility was guaranteed or something. The best part of physical nintendo games is they hold their value which is nice

I got RE8 on black friday for $20, I beat it then took it to gamestop to sell it, Gamestop wanted my FINGERPRINT to sell because of criminal activity stealing games and selling them elsewhere. God has spoken. I am getting the S and F gamestop lol. Look at Netflix, they were once physical like gamefly, but they went digital and look at them now. Thank you for your truth on digital gaming.

I also have most first-party Nintendo games, and I am very tempted to sell them. Currently, about 90% percent of my recent purchases are digital. I find my physical games take up a lot of space, and when I get married in the future, I'm sure I will need the space. In the end, I think it's whatever works best for each person. I only buy physical when I really love the game since I prefer digital (got so spoiled being a PC gamer) as most of the time it is much cheaper for me to wait for a sale, I wouldn't worry too much about e-shop closing in the future because by that time it'll be much easier to hack the switch like how the past systems like 3DS, and oh yeah most of the physical will be useless too as you won't get the updates as well the DLCs, so it'd be better to do both rather than be a purist.

I'm going to go full digital for now until they come up with a new Nintendo console. Then decide if id like to buy a used hard cartridge of my favorites that id replay for back up.
Nintendo will probably continue to put the best of the best on the server like the old nes, snes, and n64 games in the future.

Not having to get up to change a game, not having to worry about storing all of the games you want to play on you. I also think it's a neat idea that you could just download them onto different SD Cards, so you essentially have physical backups as well as the digital backups from nintendo. One thing that I find very appealing, imagine if your switch got stolen, and you have no physical games, you can just pick up a fresh switch from the store and be right back to playing video games.

Pros and cons on both sides. If you dont care about physically holding the game, storage space, or the risk of eventually losing access to the games, then digital is great. It is convenient, there are usually steep sales, and many indie games are only in this format. Great for physical storage space too.
Downside, at least with sony and xbox they proved they can and will revoke access to digital media. It is why I am moving away from them altogether now (and possibly gaming in general long term). You do not actually own the digital games. If that is fine with you long term, then definitely enjoy those sales and all!
But if you want to keep your games (or have a chance at it at least), then physical is the answer. It is satisfying to see your collection, thrilling if you find a good deal too. You can hold the game, share it, resell it too. Downsides are they take physical space, less convenient in terms of switching games, less likely to go on sale and usually not as steep on sales either. Plus, some games become insanely expensive for some unknown reasons.

I think digital is the logical evolution of phsyical. Physical games where invented because many devices did not have enough storage and the internet didn't exist/wasn't fast enough to deliver games online. So it was a solution for different times. Nowadays its possible to save the games directly on the system, no need for physical medium anymore.

Digital means having a massive selection on the go which is great as I play a lot in handheld mode. Also know I'll always have the game as long as I have my Switch console. Hmm. I don’t mind the digital but the way Nintendo does the rights for the game sucks. It makes it complicated to play games with my son and on different switches in the family. Even with the expansion of games you bought physical and a digital expansion they mess you around. So until they fix how messed up they do that I’m not going to give up physical. I buy most of my main first party games and big titles physical because I like to own them physically so later on when Nintendo does not allow downloading purchased games when the servers are down I know I will always have my games. But for games from other triple a devs and indies I typically buy them digital when they have good deals because with first party games there are not many deals anyway so I might as well go physical

The way we game is changing, but I am still leaning towards physical more especially on important popular games (including hidden indie gems that can become important too in the future) but looks at digital as last resort or alternative to get games.
    1. Owning a handheld console such as a Switch means you hold it close to your person more often so you can never go lazy switching game cards, would you.
    2. Owning multiple switches at your household can utilize sharing the physical game much more.
    3. Holding on to a tangible property makes you feel like an absolute owner of the game forever.
    4. Stacks of Switch game box cases looks good on a display cabinet.
    5. Save some of that micro SD storage space.
    6. Keeping them at the thought of being able to sell them in the future is a big plus, heck keep an unspoiled Nintendo Switch system too (maybe a hdmi TV too).
Only things I worry about physical is:
    1. When you lost them.
    2. That a game won't start without a compulsory download (gotta sell that game up now if that's the case).
    3. That a Nintendo Switch won't function in a distant future date.
    4. That SD cards of 1 or 2 TB will suddenly become cheap.

I like physical games because I can re sell the games I don’t think I’d play again and buy new games. Other than that I would do more digital games just for the convenience and I usually do indie games digital tho because they don’t resell for much physical anyways.

I have got 589 games, from PSX, to PS2, WiiU, Xbox to Series X, I cannot imagine a day when I would not be able to play them... sure if the power goes down, or my system breaks, but... digital? No way.

You DO NOT OWN anything you purchase digitally, you merely rent it. I have my 1988 copy of Mario/Duck Hunt for NES, it works perfectly fine and it will work for the rest of my life. Do you think Nintendo will keep their servers up forever?

My copy of Mario is MINE, my dad bought it for me when i was 7 years old, it's still here with me, I can sell it, lend it, play it, display it, etc. Digital games will only be playable by you as long as Nintendo stores it on its servers, that's it, it means you did not purchased it, you rented it, like watching a movie on Netflix.
