It takes some balls to sit there in front of an audience and have a lesson.

I'm undoing 30 years worth of bad habits. I sounded like a rookie when I heard myself played back. These tips are where it's at. Thanks.

Tom Hess is a guitar god, but not just a regular guitar god. He's a teaching god.

I absolutely love this style of teaching. You are able to see where other people are making mistakes which is the most important part! Trying to learn through purely instructional videos can teach you how to do new things, but it won't fix mistakes you weren't already consciously aware of.

One of the most eye-opening videos I've ever seen. Went to put this into practice and felt much more relaxed (and professional!) right away. Hell of a fast level-up - many thanks!

Great video on guitar technique! I know when I used the technique elements you talk about my playing improved massively as a result.

Thank you for the great instructional video!!! It would be MOST BENEFICIAL if we could see WHEN AND WHERE your right and left hand fingers and palm areas were ACTUALLY TOUCHING THE STRINGS AS WELL AS RIGHT HAND PLACEMENT ON THE FRETBOARD. This skill is as difficult one to develop and VERY FRUSTRATING for many trying to learn it. Any chance of another such video covering the afore mentioned??? GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

So when i saw tom playing up and down the scale i see that his palm does not move along but only his picking fingers or you could say that his right hand rotated. how does he play so clean like that?

Why have I only just now discovered you and your channel? I think guitar teachers overall are generally overrated but that the truly good ones are just the opposite. Good teachers are _not_ a dime a dozen, and from what I can see from having binge-watched your videos over the last two days, you are an amazing teacher. Thank you. God bless.

Great video. I've also noticed difficulty playing high on the neck because I didn't have the guitar neck high enough in my sitting or standing position, i.e. not having the guitar neck pointing toward the ceiling. I've found that by changing that method, my hand could more easily keep my fretting fingers straight as well.

Interesting way to hold the pick, he doesn't attack with top of the pick but with the round part (I think Robben Ford plays like that)
I tried it, it is awkward but you can play way faster!! end it is very good for sweep picking

He is right for metal style, Hendrix or stevie ray vaughn wrapped their thumb around the neck as many other blues players. Both could play extremely fast.
