I used this method (grease on the suction cups) with a $15 Rain-X DIY chip repair kit and successfully filled an 8-inch crack in my windshield! 🙌🏼🙌🏼 Thanks for the awesome video!
@vpnvpn4705 No, it's on the outside and there's a layer between the inside and outside glass. You can look up more details about how windshields are constructed, but you're filling a crack that's only on the outside layer.
The Rain-X kit uses suction cups and a tiny hole at the bottom of the reservoir pressured against the glass, which pushes the resin in and displaces air/vacuum out. The grease on the suction cups like this video shows allows you to move the whole apparatus and fill a crack instead of just a bullseye/chip.

FYI...The reason most glass companies won't repair cracks longer than 6" is because (or should be) because it is a structural issue. The windshields are part of the structure of your crash rating and must be full or as close to full strength as possible to protect you in an accident. The reason why they where to replace the windshield is because, (I am a tech) after the crack is longer then a 6 inches (a bill note or dollar), the is a safety issue with repairing the windshield. the Resin after it cures becomes harder than glass. windshields are made to break a certain way, to much resin will alter this, and could honestly be a huge safety hazard.

@@cesarmendoza8632 If you've ever tried to cut it, it literally does kind of explode. A little advice coming from someone who's been in the auto glass industry for over 20 years now. If you pay your insurance company around 5 to 10 dollars a month extra for glass coverage or you live in a state where if you carry comprehensive then your deductible is waived, why repair something when it can be replaced. Filling the crack in doesn't change the fact that there's still a crack in your windshield. It's just filled with a clear resin.Like if you have a pimple on your face why cover it up with makeup if there was a product that will remove it.The structural integrity of your windshield is. compromised the second the crack spreads from its initial impact point. The only benefit of a chip or crack repair is for someone to save money that doesn't carry the proper insurance. For example it doesn't make sense to carry comprehensive or collision because your driving a rust bucket so a windshield replacement wouldn't be covered so in the scenario it would be beneficial but i see too often people driving a brand new car, they have a crack "repaired" and say wow i can't even see it what a great job. Then they drive around not realizing that it's still just as cracked as it was before it was repaired. The integrity or your glass is being held together by a UV cured resin. I'm sure the engineers at BMW didn't have that in mind when coming up with schematics for the original windshield of your car. The glass works as a structural piece the works with a A and B pillars of your vehicle to hold up the roof during a roll over or collision. It just doesn't make sense to half ass something when it can be done right for the same price.......FREE.
this is a DITTO>>and 100% correct!!!>> ... "No name.......>>>>> who THE FUCK cares? 99.9999% of people are not going to get in an accident severe enough to utilize the windshields "life saving" integrity... they just want the eyesore gone. motorcycles don't even have a fuckin windshield, seatbelt or Fuckin frame protecting you for that matter. yet you're going to bitch about the "life saving integrity" of your fucking windshield? lol GTFO... just sleazy windshield repair salesmen up-sale pitch to make more $$ lol."

Looks good but how rugged and long lasting is the repair? How hoes this repair hold up if vehicle is driving on terrible pot holed streets like New York City?
The windshield of my tractor is cracked in many different ways, would this work for that? I have a bottle of laminating resin just sitting around which is what i assume that liquid is.
would like to buy your tool however i did drill got a bulls eye and th plastic tool used could not get the vaccm and i had to scrape the resin i poored over the crack a month ago using the mylar tabs it cure in the sun, after doing all this i still could not get the resin traveling through the cracks from the impact site? Ab Abner like we always tell customers there is a chance it will spread a rock chip repair is never guaranteed but the bullseye just helps relieve pressure so it does but you need to know how to apply
I called Carglass and they will fill up with resine only small chirps or replace your windshield, but nothing more. If you find a technician that can do this work you are lucky, or you will have to do it yourself.
Thank you for probably one of the best videos on the subject of spider crack windshield repair that I have seen. Question arises: if the windshield cracked as a result of something hitting it from the inside (a ceramic mug), does the repair have to be done from the inside, or is it assumed that the cracks have gone through and through and you can just repair it from the outside?
good question.haha I think it's to spread the burred hole to make a wall to fill with the sealer. I'm no expert, but just purchased this tool after watching it.
The resin provides no structure or support to the cracked glass, it's really just a filler - not a glue of any kind. Therefore any pressure on the glass will cause the crack to continue to spread regardless of the resin filler, just like a run in a nylon stocking ... it's hard to stop once it gets going. So again, even with the resin in the crack, the crack can very easily continue spreading. By creating a hole at the end of the crack it makes it difficult for the crack to continue anywhere since it ends in a roundish hole. The same can be done with cracks in plastic. If you drill a hole at the end of the plastic crack it won't continue to progress.
Since the next good hit would result in an additional crack and a lost windshield according to your logic, you've at least saved the cost of *one* windshield by having this done. Whether it is worth your money to buy the kit if it is indeed that expensive would depend on the frequency of cracked windshields that happen to you. For some people, it *might* be worth it. The price you quote is a lot more than I'm willing to spend on the possibility that *I* would do it right and get enough cracks to justify the cost, even though I got my first crack on my new Jeep Wrangler JL in only 2050 miles. :(
I have a circular crack with three star cracks in the middle of it and is about the size of the bottom part of a standard coffee cup. It is three inches from the bottom. I can't afford to replace it. It happened in May and hasn't spread at all it's only on the first glass. I know windshield has a tempured glass then a type of plastic then the second glass. I would like to repair it and most places have said to replace it. But I cannot. Please help
If it hasn’t got bigger since it happened I’d advise just leave it alone. It most likely will never get bigger unless u fuck around and try to fix it then it’ll probably grow

Very good video..yes some persons says buy a new windshield but this is a video for repair your used windshield ..if you are a lucky guy you find a cheap windshield plus labor...maybe repair it doesnt cost more than 50 bucks(just saying)

"Add 8 drops"
Adds 5 drops.
"Patented extension arm"
Piece of metal connected with two thumb screws.
Everything about this video is a joke and I'm only halfway through.
can this be done with a single injector not a dual one?
Looks good but how rugged and long lasting is the repair? How hoes this repair hold up if vehicle is driving on terrible pot holed streets like New York City?
Bit of water salt off bug spray and alcohol apply with foam brush let it dry for about 2 hours crack will be gone no expensive equipment needed
Do you know the exact amounts of each item to use?
Matt Swinehart it doesn't actually work. Look it up on RUclips and they prove it wrong in a couple of videos
you actually believed that shit? xD
dacasman
Exactly. 3 simple household ingredients can mysteriously weld glass back together? Lol.
Can you help me and how much those your tool cost? thanks.
Also don't disturb the crack while you are injecting it.
Is drilling ahead of the crack and tapping it to make a bulls eye really necessary?
Ab Abner like we always tell customers there is a chance it will spread a rock chip repair is never guaranteed but the bullseye just helps relieve pressure so it does but you need to know how to apply
is there a product that would seal a cut seam in a bottle
Great skills... it's a shame this can't be done in the UK by professionals (this type of repair is illegal in the UK as it's classed as unsafe).
yeah, that sucks. im willing to bet its the same deal here in nz.
In usa, I was told by a glass shop that it can't be over 2"
True, but done properly it can no longer be seen, so who is to know!
Hi buddy is the repair permanent or a temporary fix please advice
Is this what they do when you take it to auto place?
I called Carglass and they will fill up with resine only small chirps or replace your windshield, but nothing more. If you find a technician that can do this work you are lucky, or you will have to do it yourself.
+athanasiothegr8 6" or smaller. anything else is a waste of time
Dave G thats what she said! 😄
Where can I have this done in Dallas, Texas?
Thank you for probably one of the best videos on the subject of spider crack windshield repair that I have seen. Question arises: if the windshield cracked as a result of something hitting it from the inside (a ceramic mug), does the repair have to be done from the inside, or is it assumed that the cracks have gone through and through and you can just repair it from the outside?
What's the purpose of creating the bullseye after drilling please?
+bridgendesar stops the crack from spreading in the future.
Mike Ephraim I understand that, but why force more cracks (create a bull) after drilling ?
good question.haha I think it's to spread the burred hole to make a wall to fill with the sealer. I'm no expert, but just purchased this tool after watching it.
why do you need to drill at the end of the crack? what if you don't drill and just fill it with resin?
The resin provides no structure or support to the cracked glass, it's really just a filler - not a glue of any kind. Therefore any pressure on the glass will cause the crack to continue to spread regardless of the resin filler, just like a run in a nylon stocking ... it's hard to stop once it gets going. So again, even with the resin in the crack, the crack can very easily continue spreading. By creating a hole at the end of the crack it makes it difficult for the crack to continue anywhere since it ends in a roundish hole. The same can be done with cracks in plastic. If you drill a hole at the end of the plastic crack it won't continue to progress.
better then speedy glass dont you think...
speedy glass sells thin thickness glass that is very brittle and easy to crack
what kind of resin you using?
Hey just bought this but i have failed to used it even after the video. Can u help
Does safelite repair door windows if the windows no longer comes down with a new auto or hand crank device.
Yes we will do the labor but you must supply the replacement part (i.e. regulator)
Where do you buy that tool at
Shouldnt be doing in the sun no matter how good you are, it will start curing in seconds
The kits start at $500 and go up to $1500.
The crack isn't gone its just less noticeable.
Iif it takes another good hit, kiss it good bye.
Lyrik L.block He works at a windshield repair company.

Should one wash the glass where crack is with alcohol to be sure it is clean, or don't bother.
Wash yes. Alcohol? That I’m not sure of. I know at Safelite we clean with glass cleaner (the foam aerosol kind) and then we use a capsule of acetone to prepare for the repair process
Not long . Problem micro glass walk again ... car ride vibration all frame Window shield
