- A stop-motion-animated action film with G.I. Joe action figures killing each other with guns, bombs and swords. It takes playing with toys to a whole different level. If you like fun blood and guts - check this short film out!
I can’t believe this is 15 years old. This was, and still is, the shit. Please never take this down.
Don't worry I wont! Thanks for watching all these years!
"Kick ass and don't look back!" Still to this day, the best G.I. Joe stop motion on RUclips.
+Silent Wobby Thanks!!
+Jeff Gurwood are you still making videos?
Ive been searching for this nostalgia for years and I’ve finally found it! This is gold
Thanks for finding it! Sorry for the late response!
The greatest stop motion action figure movie of all time!!
That's the ultimate compliment! Thanks!!!
No problem. It's well deserved, sir
Seems like everyone else is returning to this video for a nostalgia trip, pretty sure if I look hard enough I could find some cringy comments I made when I was like 11 or 12. Hard to believe this video is more than a decade old, makes me feel old.
Haha I feel super old too! I started making this in 1998!
bigshexxy same
*_18 years now_* I miss OG RUclips 😭
15 years later it still slaps
Thanks so much! I'm glad you've enjoyed the movie for all these years. I actually made this in 1998. A small part of me hopes it inspired a new generation of stop motion animation in some way!
yes, Im making stop motion animation with my action mans because of this kind of action movies. I love it.
@@natter7686 Awesome! Keep this kind of animation alive!
this inspired me once to do a gi joe film for film school and they were blown away by my film so thank you for making this
You are very welcome!
I remember seeing this at my grandmothers house on her old computer... Time flys
Still my favorite after all these years
Glad to hear!
I watched this back in 2008 and it brings back a lot of memories. It inspired me to create stop motion of my own and don't worry I don't have a single one of them on my channel in case you though I was promoting myself. This is the work of a pure genius.
Sharad Reddy2 Thanks so much! I really appreciate it!
The song at the beginning is the "Covert Operatives theme song" sung by me.
A RUclips classic.
Thanks!
You are a legend. You inspired me to do stopmotion.
A more classic video for a more civilized age
I still come back and watch this every now and then. Love it
RIP vintage GI joes. they will be missed.
wow. can't believe it's been over seven years since I first watched this. Looking at it again, it's almost like a stop-motion precursor to all the action channels on RUclips. Freddiew and Corridor Digital are staples of the RUclips action experience, but Covert Operatives will always have a nostalgic effect on me. It blew my mind (in literally blowing away the minds of its stars) and triggered an onslaught of my own stopmotion on good ol' Digital Blue Movie creator..memories, man. Memories. :)
Used to love this video when I was a kid!
What an incredible trip down memory lane. I must have watched this 50 times when i was 11 or 12. Thanks for keeping this on RUclips!
Glad you still like it after all these years! Happy to keep it up as long as people are enjoying it! Sorry for the late response
Wow, I remember watching this in my childhood and I collected Gi joes before I saw this, and it motivated me to get all the ones you collected and this animation is still so amazing and so greatly done. So much time and effort payed off.
Thanks so much! I appreciate it! Sorry for the late response!
I watched this 15 years ago and this is still one of my finest RUclips memories ever.
BRC.
Before Robot Chicken.
:-)
Saw this as a kid and loved it immensely. Still love it immensely. Thank you for the inspiration.
So glad to be some inspiration to you! Makes me happy! Sorry it took me 5 months to reply. I don't check this often
When was this originally released? Remember watching this YEARS ago.
Well, it's been on youtube since 2006 and before that it was on ifilm starting around 2001 I think.
Your a very talented animator
Jeff Gurwood can u do more videos
you still there ?
I have no words for how much I love this film. This was probably one of the first videos I was graced with upon finding RUclips when I was in elementary school and I can’t believe I found it today, like 13 some odd years later. Gotta say, it’s even better than before.
Don’t FUCK with the Covert Operatives.
Wow Thanks so much for the kind words! Sorry it took me a year to respond. I don't check this page often but when I do I love seeing these comments! Thanks!
amazing stuff of gold
Lmao looking back at this from my favorites.. 2006. Crazy. This is a super well done video though lol
"I'm good with computers and stuff"
It popped into my head randomly, just now, glad to see it’s still up, I love covert operatives.
Thanks man! Happy people are still enjoying it!
Oh man, this was one of the first videos I saw on RUclips. RUclips Classic right here! Hey Jeff, how old were you when you made this video, if you don't mind.
+ReaayZ Yeah! It's been on youtube since the beginning! I was 21 years old when I made this.
This always reminded me of movies like Snake Eater(1989) and Broken Arrow. It's good to revisit the old stuff.
2 years and it will be a decade old.
Actually... Covert Operatives was made in 1998. And it was first on the internet in the year 2000 on a site called ifilm before youtube. So it was one of the very first videos when there were only a few sites streaming short films back in the day! Pretty cool!
Jeff Gurwood damn..i was born in 1998! honestly u got me into stopmotion..and wow u replied me! wud love to see some more from you! waiting...
Sammeet Nimgole Wow, I feel like an old guy now! haha. I'm glad I helped inspire you to get into stop motion. That's really cool! I have a few other stop motions. Go to my website. It's Jeffgurwood dot com. Check out Last Randy Standing and Indyanimation. I'm also starting a new one now that will be ready in about a year! haha
On Thursday 9/20, Denver had a GI Joe StopMo Film Fest. It was great getting to see "Covert Operatives" on the "big" screen. Congrats on winning best film with 3-3/4" action figures and on being one of the audience favorites.
this was 10 years ago
+MONOJKL Yeah it's been on youtube for 10 years. wow! But it's even older than that!
and it's a good use for old gi Joe
Awesome!!!!!!
This is some of the best content on this whole shitery.
Just came back for mum daily dose!
10 years and going! I still remember watching this when I was 10. It really made me want to do stop motion with my toys.
Thanks!!
This film is great especially the part when they come off the elevator and I remember seeing this when I first joined RUclips. I am surprised it is not at a million hits.
Thanks! I appreciate it. Sorry it took me so long to respond
Glad I remembered the name of this and found it!! To this day I still use the line "I'm good with computers and stuff".
That's hilarious! Some of my friends say it from time to time too!
lol i watched this first in 2006 going thru my old favorites
This was my favorite stop motion video along time ago.
Nick Rodriguez Awesome! Thanks!
One of my favourite videos of all time. You wouldn't believe how much of an influence this has had on me. Good work!

Really hope this goes into the RUclips Recommendations some day and gets millions of views. Its a classic.
I hope so too! Thanks!
Holy shit! I watched this so many times when I was younger on iFilm. This brings back great memories of the dial up period!
2012 and this is still the best stop-motion I know.
No matter how many times you watch it, it still PWNS on so many levels
That is like the best thing my eyes have ever seen...ever... The Detail at which you wreck wooden objects is just amazing
A real classic. Deserved a million views. You know how much work this takes. Well done!
Thanks! Who know why some videos hit millions and others don't. I'm just happy people still remember and enjoy it
I have that figure...it's still in pretty good shape...and this movie is kick ass! I was laughin my ass off!
this is such a 80;s hero film...LOVE IT!! MORE
I've been messing around with a GIJoe stop motion but nothing this amazing. Great movie!
Thanks! Keep up the work you'll get better each time
@@covertoperatives thanks buddy I am definitely inspired by your work.
Just awesome, plain awesome. I loved how the wood crates starting coming apart from the gunfire. Great Work!
I looked at this like 100 years ago and I looked at it like 100 times and showed to all my friends (Still do), to me this is a classic. It wasn't on youtube then though, some other platform. I like it so much.
Samuël Tremblay Thanks so much Samuel! It used to be on iFilm back in the early 2000's. Maybe you saw it there.
Jeff Gurwood yes iFilm thanks! There was a lot of independant film makers.
Quality, really good scenes and character movement.excellent sets and funny dialogue.must of taken you days to complete.really excellent.
I watched it like 30 times cause it's so cool!!!
Loved watching this years and years ago on Ifilm...... One of my students then told me about it and he was surprised I knew exactly what it was... thought I was some boring old teacher!
Sean Cloudview I love that story! Something similar happened to me once. I told a guy I met that I did stop motion animation and he asked me if I ever saw this movie Covert Operatives! Great moment!
Lol used to watch this vid all the time wen I was in school, 12 years ago. Funny as hell
Thanks a lot! I'm glad you love my movie so much. It actually took me about 9 months to make this movie including building all the sets and everything. And yes, I have seen Robot Chicken. You're right it is good stopmotion.
this is one of the coolest movies i have seen on youtube!! i would like to see more like it.
Thanks for being a fan for all these years!
Oldie but a goodie. Love this flick I just love it!!
Thank you for this. I remember watching this a long time ago on a dial up modem. This video has been stuck in my head since I was a kid.
This is one of my most FAVORITE-est movies of all time!
I used to watch it on ifilm all the time. "Computers 'n Stuff"...so many quotable lines. Michael St. Vincent's PSA rules!!! The Foriegn Investor and Phillip rule! And I fuckin' LOVE the Covert Operatives punk theme music! On top of that, the stop animation is done really well with great attention to detail. Thanks for making the best, bloodiest, stop motion action figure animation ever!
This vid along with the last randy standing were the first two stopmotion vids I ever saw...Thnx to that I now have a greater appreciation for the innovative and unparralled thinking that stop motion animators put into their work...big ups to you XD
Impressive...Most impressive... I applaud the patience required for sucj a movie...I had no patience when it came to making my movie...so stop animation was a no go...but enuff about me...This movie is wonderfully done. A perfect mix of action and comedy. Congrats, this is true gold.
Great job on this. I remember seeing it on a different site years ago before RUclips was even around. Still holds up.
i frickin love this! used to watch this in RUclipss early days. Truly Classic!
Hell yes! I remember watching this on iFilm all the time...
Someone catches on to that joke every once in a while. Thanks!
I can watch this over and over again.
This rocks so much!
Thanks a lot for doing it. :)
I remember seeing this video more than a decade ago. Good to see it's lived to see the RUclips era.
Look mommy there's an airplane in the sky-good bye blue sky by Pink Floyd fucking love it
I feel old everytime I come back to this
Oh man...watched this on Ifilm about 7 years ago? Classic, glad to have watched it again :D
Wow that was the coolest stop motion movie that I have ever seen!!
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the movie. The punk songs in the movie were done by me. I also used the SWAT theme in the city stuff.
Took me a while to find this!!!! Who’s still watching at 2019?
me
I've been trying to remember what this short was, for the last hour. I was about to fill out a "Tip of my tongue" reddit post, when eventually the musical ear worm released the "Covert Operative" song from my memory.
I remember first seeing this between 2000-2001, on some website/forum/wherever it was.
Great Video, with a lot of man hours to animate.
Glad you remembered! Appreciate you coming back to it all these years later!
Still remember this fondly when I was 6 I had no idea how I came across it but it was awesome
Thanks! Glad people still remember it!
This video is the best G.I joe stop motion
+ZOMBIE SWAG Thanks!
Awesome !
"those actors weren't killed, their stunt doubles were!"
this is awesome the background, blood, awwww its crazy this is the best stop motion on youtube.
The movie is great! But I'm more amazed how you could manage to fit a 14 min clip into a 10 min box of space. This one is going to my favorites.
Best G.I. Joe ever!!!
thanks for making this movie i really enjoyed it, and all the hard effort is appreciated.
I remember watching this back in the mid to late 90s on newgrounds.
still funny to this day :).
Thanks! Glad it holds up!
Hey covertoperatives,
I saw this back on ifilm a few years ago. Just as funny as the first time I saw it. Well done.
And I laughed my ass off when I came across that track on The Wall. I'd seen this vid on IFILM back several years ago but had never listened to The Wall. So when that came up, I about ran my car off the road from laughing so hard upon that connection.

It`s beautiful...no words...should have sent....a poet.
Most of the guns came with the figures when I originally bought them back in the 80's. I saved them all these years.
Impressive... Most Impressive. A true master piece I say. I applaud the patience that was required for such a film. I tried makin my film stop motion but my patience ran super thin...but nuff about me ...This film rocks on so many levels , a great blend of action and comedy with a side order of overly vilent deaths.
This video is awesome! I remember watching it when I was in high school. This was probably 6 or 7 years ago now!
EPIC! So much effort must have gone into this, the sets are wicked!
07:43 always cracks me up the voice
''Ahuu Fillip mmmm''
xD
Talk about nostalgia
Really impressive. An incredible job. I look very good movements, special effects and decorations. And also your collection of action figures.
Dang your sets were BIG! that was very impressive thanks for posting it I love this stuff!
That was amazing! Definitely going on my favorites...
The Tunnel Rat I used was the original from 1986. I collected Joes from 1983 - 1989. I don't have many from after that. My five favorite are probably the ones I used in the movie! I always loved Shockwave and Tunnel Rat. 2nd Storm Shadow and 2nd Snake Eyes with Timber were awesome.
