I love the designs of Strandbergs so much. As I don't consider myself a serious player, I probably will never own one. But, that's because I feel like Strandbergs are top shelf instruments for serious players. It feels like Ola has "cracked the code." Make the best possible instruments using the most consistent parts available. And as you have said many times, Indonesia knows how to make a great guitar, it's just many "bargain options" made by Fender and others there are more worried about turning out numbers than insuring the highest quality. It seems like Ola has taken the gloves off and said "I'll design you something great. You build something great." He breaks the status quo in the best possible way.
Ola has to be one of the most humble and unassuming guys in the guitar industry. He has done something that so many have tried and failed at. Like Phil said, he has changed the industry and moved it forward in a way that others couldn't. And even after doing that he seems shocked that people see him as revolutionary. I love my Strandberg. Thanks for sharing this interview so I can know more about what went into this guitar that I love to play.
Thanks Phil for the interview. The Strandbergs are just "a different animal" but still so "easy" to get familiar with. Their size and weight are a serious plus as well. I love their very gentle multi-scale. If there was a Boden Jazz I would be GAS-ing for one of those!
Very good interview, Phil! I’d love to try the guitar and feel that new neck. Ola was very honest and gave us a good peek into what it’s like to design a guitar that isn’t the same old style. I notice that friendships and relationships really contribute to the development of something fresh. Like software development , the open source concept could potentially generate some very inventive new guitars. I hope Ola tries more of that!
if you do another one, ask him about tonewood. I think he is one of the small bunch of people who conducted and recorded proper measurements and proved there is a difference

Great interview, thanks Phil. I think I would like to see more Richlite in guitars. That video on the Taylor channel "the state of ebony" or whatever it's called is pretty alarming. Sounds like a tremendous waste of trees.
My Gibson LP HP2 has a Richlite fretboard and I'm a huge fan. Zero maintenance on the Strandberg due to the Stainless Frets. Lots of potential for different colourways and designs if they choose to do so in the future
I remember Ola being on project guitar and talking about making cardboard cut-outs for the shape and having machine shops make parts he designed. He let other members get some made too because it spread out the setup costs. Seemed like a really nice guy then too.

I really want a modern Salen with a figured maple top, black richlite fretboard, a forearm contour, while still retaining the tele pickup configuration
