So far, they seem to be doing a decent job with subverting your expectations like the Resident Evil remakes so effectively did. Just different enough to genuinely surprise and shock you, but just similarly enough to have all the best parts. The radio on the chair was a great change!
I also just hope that they put themselves at liberty to make this game as unnervingly awkward and weird as possible. Like it looks like they showed off the drain where you have to undo five complicated locks on that ominous box just to get a hair to use with the strangely insignificant-looking bent needle. I remember that drain was in the most suffocatingly tiny prison-like single-person shower ever with no windows. I hated being in that shower. But it now looks to be in a regular drain in a wide open lit room? I hope they still have plenty of locations like I described!

Still, I want to reserve my praise for when the full game is released, since there's always the chance that the full game isn't as good as the snippets shown. But as of right now, my expectations are really high.
Well this actually looks good. Not a fan of the fighting (though I'm not sure people are ever going to agree on a fighting style for SH) but the additions like checking the map in "real time" and such feel really good.
@@RockoEstalon Ooooh, I think I see what you mean. Yeah, James does seem a bit more aggressive than you think he would be lol I don't *entirely* mind encouraging aggression in horror games myself, but I do see where you're coming from. It also seems like puzzles are gonna be in real time too (going by the lying figure jump scare during the fishing puzzle) so, that'll be interesting.
Hot pink was pretty important in her character design. It mirrored Mary's soft pink, made her a little more connected visually to Mary. I wish they had just updated the original idea.
The gameplay actually looks a lot better than those trailers - however I wanna point out that there's something off with how the camera works with the walking animation - could have been chosen a better camera angle or something, the current one still looks a bit stiff and it does take you out of the immersion a bit - after all, really hope this game will be good on release!
This 13-minute Silent Hill 2 Remake gameplay trailer cleared most of my doubts about this remake. The last combat trailer didn’t really excite me, but from this video, the remake looks incredible. They perfectly executed the same atmosphere, eerie vibes, and environmental details as in the original. The voice acting and character emotions are on point. So far, from what they’ve shown regarding combat, it looks very faithful to the original because James isn’t a combat veteran; he's always portrayed as a normal guy lost in this town in search of his wife. I’m really glad the Bloober Team developers kept the same jank and stiffness in the combat. I’m very excited for this remake and cautiously optimistic about it. I’m sure they’ll deliver it perfectly.
Seeing this just makes me sad, we never got Kojimas Silent Hills. How incredible it looked. Just on another level. Konami is like an alcoholic stepfather who hates having a kid around but must take care of it. Silent Hill since 4 was nothing but one weak attempt after another to keep the franchise alive with as little money and effort as possible. And when Kojima was about to save it and make it next level, they’ve got rid of him. Game looks good. But I’d wish for SH to evolve.
Homecoming was really good imo. Downpour was alright but felt unfinished and rushed. Kojima had nothing to do with these games, don’t know why people are bringing his name up. Konami excluding him from the MGS 3 remake and not even mentioning his name is next level BS though. Also, I’m pretty sure as Silent Hill 2 fans we want as faithful a remake as possible with modernized visuals, sound design, acting etc. Not any sort of “evolution”. We can worry about the series evolving when a sequel comes around.
This remake is trying to faithfully adapt the original version as much as possible in my opinion… I feel like Bloober has a lot of respect for og SH2 … but with that being said there’s also a SHF game in the works.. which is an original story as far as I’m aware.. yea PT would’ve been very cool to have got released.. but as long as they bring the franchise back and handle it with care I’m good.. it’s been way too long since we got anything SH
Didnt play OG, but this looks good, it has really nice atmosphere and I hope I will get the evil within 1 vibe. Hope the game is 60 fps and Angela face will be improved
I respect the huge effort bloober team is making for this game, I absolutely admire the effort they took at making this game as it is no easy task to remake the highest exponent in survival horror (even to this day, every single horror game looks to this one for inspiration, like what Jojos Bizarre Adventure is to shonen manga, SH2 is to horror games) my only gripe is the camera placemente, it's like they envisioned the game to scare james and make him feel the things instead of the player, if the camera was zoomed in James nape it'll feel way more immersive and better imho, just my two cents.
3 HUGES mistakes on the combat system: 1) Camera focus the enemy 2) Dodge button 3) Grab animation The game need to be stressful to be immersive with the lore and dessing, and the gameplay complements that, I know the uncomfortable gameplay on the original game wasnt 100% intended, but the result was great, same with the fog on the first game... what was made for efficiency turn on a great immersion technique. I know Silent hill: origins had grab animations, but this is remake is for silent hill 2. This is not a hate/complaint comment! This is an opinion and you can desagree :)
Pyramid head and Abstract daddy in OG SH2 could grab you too, this is nothing new in the SH series. Also every enemy in SH1 could grab you and alot of enemies in SH3. There is also nothing wrong with a dodge ability, if I really remember you could do a huge backstep in SH1 which looked like a dodge also SH3 had a Block button...combat in OG SH isn't just moving around in Tank controls back and forth....
there are some few icks here and there but nothing's going to ever be perfect anyway and there is really good stuff too. Some of the sound design is amazing
@@odontoxins3223 That's not really the point of a remake of an older game though, you're supposed to revamp and make all of the gameplay modern and new. This game is clearly on a budget which you can tell from the awkward animations. I feel like another team other than Bloober would of done better, but I guess it doesn't really matter anymore.
That's Bloober team for ya. They've never made a game with combat, so don't expect depth, quality animations or well coded mechanics. Get this game on sale, this won't be worth $70.
It looks much better than what we saw last time and it also seems they removed the big flashing immersion killing button prompts which is good but idk, it still looks a little off, I can't put my finger on why...I think RE4 and Deadspace set the mark real high for remakes. I will be playing on release, I'm hoping it will be good!
People complain about the animations but will gladly go back and play the PS2 version with its even stiffer animations and not let it bother them there. Human beings in a nutshell.
Funnily enough the OG has more varied melee moves. The plank and pipe handled differently. The remake however seems to be recycling animations between the two.
@@leonidaswinkler Not my point. My point is people will NOT play the remake because of THAT but will gladly play the original despite it being even stiffer than the remake. It’s not an age gap thing, more of a hypocrisy on people’s principles. People commonly just contradict themselves. And you may say that they put up with it because of the originals vibe and unique tone. Well in that case why not just say that instead of making the animations being the point of not playing it?
This game looks good! I am definitely hopeful. Can’t wait! Just hope that Maria doesn’t look like Ashley from RE4. Overall, we know there are going to be changes from the original. However, as long as developers manage to capture the atmosphere and get us emerged into the story, it will be interesting. This was never about the combat, James is not a trained fighter. This is about a psychological journey into the mystical Silent Hill, where everyone is living through their own nightmares.
This actually looks really good, the design of the environment is stellar and very visually appealing, which is primarily what I wanted out of a Silent Hill 2 remake - the original game, but good looking. Never lost hope in this game, despite all the displeasure people have been showing, to me it looks really promising. Only extremely minor complaint I have is how James walks, but that's really not that big of a deal. I think this will turn out real good.
this was part of a longer livestream that showcased other stuff like the footage they shot for the live action movie. they should release a separate video with purely gameplay material
I must admit, this trailer has me excited, it's nothing like the original, but I think that's a good thing. Despite how good the original is, you want a different experience from the first. I also like the echo the characters voices have for some reason. To me it seems like your in a dream, as if nothing going on around you is real. I also don't mind the new Maria, she looks pretty good!
I know everyone is hating on this game but it still looks far better than the original and it will be nice to play from a new perspective and over the shoulder gameplay.
@@dvdbox360 Sorry, but no. SH original camera was more dynamic and much farther away and allowed you to see more and it did have fixed cameras and chnted angles to highlight certain moments and items. I'm curious about Laura interacting with Maria. In the original game I interpreted it that Maria really looked nothing like Mary and was just a monster with a glimmer to make it appear beautiful.

Agree about slowing enemies movement. But this trailer is making sense about why need fast hitting moves, obviously enemies attack are fast in remake, so you need to move your steps fast anyways.

I hope they get the time to polish the game nicely before it releases. It looks interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing people that never played this game getting a chance to experience it well with the remake.

I really liked the little animation of James scrining on the map
Cool concept, poor execution. He is not even using the correct map of the town. Would've been fine if this was a ps2 game on a blurry 480p crt, but too bad it targets 4k, now we can all see the double A game with a triple A skin on top in high fidelity.
The gameplay looks good. I really really REALLY wish they would put Maria back in her original design; it’s so important to the overall story!

Even better if your wife hates horror games 😊
3:10 In the original game, the first enemy did not attack James because she represented Mary, but they seem to have removed this in the remake. Please pay attention to the symbolism in the new game.
the first enemy did attack in the first game too, it would just wait longer than any subsequent enemy, because a player would have to figure out attack buttons.
No one puts in as much research, time and dedication as Japanese devs. We have to lower expectations now that Team Silent is gone.
And which pretentious video essay youtuber did you hear that from? It's slower to attack and weaker because it's a tutorial enemy..
man remember when video games didn't need to put circles around interactables? That was nice and immersive
They didn't put circles but they put a glow. Right now circles is just what's in.
Although I hope the finished game ends up being more fever dream like in atmosphere then this trailer shows (more like original) I am not going to lie I am so hyped to experience SH2 again even if it differs in many ways just because as a kid who grew up in ps2 era playing all these classics on updated engines w/ new content is so exciting! No matter what people will always find things to complain about but I am very hyped to play this! Even if it’s just a “good” remake I’m all in! I gotta say this game looks amazing. Looking forward to fighting and being chased by Pyramid head. Hope they still have the same Pyramid head theme.
*never judge a book by the cover.*
This is more like never judge a story by the first chapter. The last trailer was really bad but here's a HUGE improvement.
This saying needs to be reminded many times over... "the original will always be there to go back to", so what's the harm in giving the SH2 remake a fair chance? I've played and finished 2001 original 4 times from 2022, and I'm definitely looking forward to this 2024 remake. Nothing is ever perfect in this world.

Like many, I was skeptical after that first trailer, but this one has more or less laid my doubts to rest. This game looks incredible and clearly has a lot of respect and reverence for the original. Still, I want to reserve my praise for when the full game is released, since there's always the chance that the full game isn't as good as the snippets shown. But as of right now, my expectations are really high.
This remake looks like fun, and it looks like they’ve tried to stay as true to the original as possible.
People just love to hate.
Well this actually looks good. Not a fan of the fighting (though I'm not sure people are ever going to agree on a fighting style for SH) but the additions like checking the map in "real time" and such feel really good.
See, I think the fighting is fine personally. I like a bit of clunk in my SH combat lol but that's just me
@@themojogamer75 I'm unbothered by the clunkiness, but it feels a too "in control", like it favors fighting instead of running away.
@@RockoEstalon Ooooh, I think I see what you mean. Yeah, James does seem a bit more aggressive than you think he would be lol I don't *entirely* mind encouraging aggression in horror games myself, but I do see where you're coming from.
Also, to go back to what you said about the little additions, the animation of James checking the map in real time is an *ace* decision that I'm happy they added. Looks absolutely incredible. All my fears have been put to bed after this. Well done Bloober Team.
They messed up with Maria's look.😔
I thought she looked fine, just Angela 🤦
Hot pink was pretty important in her character design. It mirrored Mary's soft pink, made her a little more connected visually to Mary. I wish they had just updated the original idea.
@danielbelcab to be fair, we didn’t see either of them too well . But they’re voiced by the same person like the OG
Maria remake is just like another Ashley is not really representing Mary that James want.

The light effects are really amazing
The gameplay actually looks a lot better than those trailers - however I wanna point out that there's something off with how the camera works with the walking animation - could have been chosen a better camera angle or something, the current one still looks a bit stiff and it does take you out of the immersion a bit - after all, really hope this game will be good on release!
this trailer has much higher bitrate and quality on the steam page

2024 and we seeing 360p blurry video to disguise all imperfections

I bet they will just put Pyramid Head in it again as typical Konami does
Why wouldn't they? Pyramid Head was first introduced in Silent Hill 2 so it would be dumb not to
@@raidenakajacktheripper5988 I'm joking bruh 🤣
I suppose that animations would be more flexible till relise and maybe will be some more creative decisions for cutscenes making them creepier.
The only face I dont like its james face, they changed him too much, the others looks aight.
For 2007 the graphics are great!
Hope the full soundtrack is as good as the original
Cause they kept the original soundtracks, just like they’ll do with MGS Delta
The demo in FPV looked much more intense and scary than playing in third person. If it’s running unreal engine 5 then it sure to be 🔥🔥
3 HUGES mistakes on the combat system:
1) Camera focus the enemy
2) Dodge button
3) Grab animation
The game need to be stressful to be immersive with the lore and dessing, and the gameplay complements that, I know the uncomfortable gameplay on the original game wasnt 100% intended, but the result was great, same with the fog on the first game... what was made for efficiency turn on a great immersion technique.
@@RussiaP0wer7 You are right, my mistake... But I insist on the focus the enemy, at least with small enemies.

@@odontoxins3223 that’s true actually😂
People complain about the animations but will gladly go back and play the PS2 version with its even stiffer animations and not let it bother them there. Human beings in a nutshell.
23 year difference but ok
Funnily enough the OG has more varied melee moves. The plank and pipe handled differently. The remake however seems to be recycling animations between the two.
@@leonidaswinkler Not my point. My point is people will NOT play the remake because of THAT but will gladly play the original despite it being even stiffer than the remake. It’s not an age gap thing, more of a hypocrisy on people’s principles. People commonly just contradict themselves. And you may say that they put up with it because of the originals vibe and unique tone. Well in that case why not just say that instead of making the animations being the point of not playing it?

Just hope that Maria doesn’t look like Ashley from RE4.
Overall, we know there are going to be changes from the original. However, as long as developers manage to capture the atmosphere and get us emerged into the story, it will be interesting.
This was never about the combat, James is not a trained fighter. This is about a psychological journey into the mystical Silent Hill, where everyone is living through their own nightmares.
The atmosphere feels reminiscent of Resident Evil 2 Remake and I mean that as the best compliment possible

Resident Evil at home, untextured ahh late 2000's 30 frames per second game. There's no excuse for this game to NOT run at a minimum 60 FPS in 2024.
this was part of a longer livestream that showcased other stuff like the footage they shot for the live action movie. they should release a separate video with purely gameplay material

SH original camera was more dynamic and much farther away and allowed you to see more and it did have fixed cameras and chnted angles to highlight certain moments and items.

Don’t get the hate, I actually think it seems to do a pretty good job of capturing the atmosphere of the original. I think James sounds great too.
I recently played Silent Hill 2 and honestly this looks almost just like it. I hope there are some differences that make it stand out and just isn't a carbon copy of the original.
They said that they're taking liberties with minor aspects of the game so it'll feel like a "perfect memory" of the original Instead of a 1-to-1 carbon copy.
All SH true fans who are looking to the remake are carefully evaluating this video in a very different way than those newbie who are only complaining about the graphics.!
why did they change maria's outfit??
Censorship under the guise of "for the modern audience". Plus the devs are working with Hit detection, basically the reason why Angela looks so uninspired and Maria's outfit got censored.
I strongly remember running up to the third floor in the apartment complex and hearing that disturbing music with what sounds like a rusty door opening, they put it back in this. Still creeps me out 😂
This looks so good. Scary AF and very true to the OG. Most newer games don’t have the same level of terror as the old fixed angle ones did. But this maintains that sense of dread. Idk what people are complaining about. Looks like a beautiful game!
I'm curious about Laura interacting with Maria. In the original game I interpreted it that Maria really looked nothing like Mary and was just a monster with a glimmer to make it appear beautiful.
Imagine if they remade Silent Hill 1 and 3 as one whole game. That would be epic.
