I snuck out of my college graduation also! Used the same excuse. Haha they tried to refuse to let me go, but there was no way my family was sitting through that whole thing. 🤣
Best part about being graduated, is they can no longer tell you what to do lol. We're not at school, I'm not in school, don't tell me what to do. Teachers were trying to get us to sit there for an hour and a half a just wait. Wasn't happening.
I was deadass 6 months pregnant at my graduation and a random ass teacher tried telling me I couldn’t leave to eat. It was mid summer in the desert. Said I needed to ask my principal and I said if I have to find her I’ll walk across the stage again and disrupt the ceremony. She let me leave.
My brother graduated recently and the day after his grad day was a Monday, and our parents received an email saying he was absent and missing classes 😂
I’m assuming since they usually do them in large venues like concert venues or stadiums, they have to make sure there is security just so that nobody comes in that shouldn’t be there because they could cause danger/harm to people. You know how it is in the US these days. Anything with a large crowd is the perfect recipe for disaster.
They don’t want people leaving before everyone else gets to walk the stage. It’s actually pretty rude to leave after you walk and not wait for everyone else. Everyone deserves the same crowd
high school graduation day always has very strong opinions on it and people are either really passionate about going or really passionate about not going
I was the only one in a class of 600 that didnt go. They called ky name and all. My highschool graduation, I showed up while the principal was speaking to the grads. He sort of paused his pep talk & came over to ask me in front of everyone if I'd been at the practice ceremony. I told him no, no one told me & I didn't receive any mail about it (all true, I did homeschooling & only came in 3 days a week). He says ok wait here, walks a few feet to the others & says you guys ready? Ok! They all get up & start filing past me to the seating area. Finally he walks back over as the last of them go by & says sorry, I can't let you walk & throws his hands up like oh well. I told him to give me a break, my whole family was there, & I didn't get any notice. He just smiled and walked away. After some panicking I ran into my teacher who confirmed there was a mix up & I was never notified. He said don't worry about it, wait for a quiet part & find a seat & I'll call your name. Well I waited until the principal was in the middle of a speech and walked out from behind a corner. When he saw me he stumbled on his words & froze up for a second which was beautiful. I found an empty row in the back & sat leaned back while he glared at me. When it was my turn to come up I took my diploma & shook a couple hands. Then I turned to him & he held out his hand with this angry little sneer he was trying to hide from the crowd. But I just smiled, held my hand out, and let it drop. I said thanks for nothing & walked off the stage. The entire crowds faces dropped lol. My family was in shock, even random families came over after like what just happened. Completely out of character for me. I just couldn't understand why this man I'd never even spoken to was being such a jerk & trying to make an example out of me on the last day I'd ever be there. I was never in any trouble or caused problems, I just flew under the radar..so why the animosity? It felt good to wipe the smug look off his face. Best part, my mom got a bunch of pictures & and it's like a frame by frame. You see my hand drop, then his face...he was shook 😂. Sorry about the long post.
Schools systems are crazy. At my graduation I was one of the first people to walk across the stage. As soon as I got my stuff I headed straight for the exit. Graduations are awful and are 99% of the time for the family and not the student who suffered years of work. So most students don't even want to be there, but their family guilts them into going because they want video and pics of the moment. My family told me I would regret if I didn't go. That years later I would thank them. A decade later and nope. I still wish I hadn't gone. Genuinely hated it 😂

My sister is ALWAYS late and was late to her own graduation. They were supposed to get there an hour before they started, and she got there 5 minutes before it was meant to start. Everyone was already seated. They didn't even want to let her in. But a school security guard that was friends with our mom, and has known us since we were little kids, rushed up and fought in her defense. She was able to walk into the graduation seats and made a huge entrance because of how obvious it was she was late. She definitely made her graduation memorable with that stunt. It was one of the few times I saw her cry, at that moment they didn't wanna let her in and she thought she might not be able to walk. Also, some guy in her class flashed his ass after getting his diploma and ended up on the sex offender registry.
I went to my nieces graduation on a day where the temp was 102° outside not including the humidity. They had it out in the football field on bleachers. Everyone was burning up, lots of people needing medics because they were getting heatstroke and the freaking speakers, who were under a stage with cover, were still saying their long A$$ speeches and acting like people weren't dying. I have never wanted to walk onto the field and take my niece out so quickly, just ridiculous. Smh.

If he wanted to leave early he could have just not went and had his diploma mailed to him. I graduated from here a few weeks ago and the whole ceremony was only 2 hours, pretty quick for how many students there were.
It’s not “optional” when most of the time people are forced by their parents into going. I didn’t want to sit through that shit either, but I didn’t have a choice. I don’t see why it matters if all the other students are spectating the whole time. Most schools try to prohibit throwing caps, so it’s not like they want you to wait for that part. As long as your family is watching then that should be good enough.

My school had a four hour long graduation. 3 of them being the principal talking. They ended our graduation with "congratulations! Note to all students you have 30 minutes to get off school property or we will have you arrested and charged with tresspassing".
You know you don't need to show up the graduation in order to graduate. Back in my day, they didn't even have your diploma at that time. They mailed it later on.
A lot of schools just hand you the leather folder on stage and make you check out afterwards in order to get your actual diploma. That way, students will be less willing to be disruptive during the ceremony.

Yeah if people are telling you you're "not allowed to leave your graduation." Inform them unlawful entrapment is a very serious criminal offense.
His whole family came to see his graduation and we’re so confused why he thought it was so cool to ditch it 😂
Bro, i remember they did that shit and forced us to go, or we wouldn't get our diploma. The districts graduating class was like over 1k kids!
After I received my diploma I walked to my chair, picked up my flower, then flipped off the vice principal smiling my ass off, then switched my tassel and walked out to the car to go to my graduation party🤣 I did what I came to do and didn't give a single fuck about waiting to leave.
My school had a four hour long graduation. 3 of them being the principal talking. They ended our graduation with "congratulations! Note to all students you have 30 minutes to get off school property or we will have you arrested and charged with tresspassing".
I graduated in 83’ and I think you should be able to leave when you want… you earned it
Proud parents !
You know you don't need to show up the graduation in order to graduate. Back in my day, they didn't even have your diploma at that time. They mailed it later on.
they'll try to keep it
Do not start horsing around until you get that diploma in your hands. And the picture is taken. Congratulations to you.
He’s gonna be telling this story for the rest of his life AMEN
As a non American I have no idea how they can legally stop you leaving that sounds insane
As an American, they can't.
they can’t but they’re dealing with kids so they just say shit and expect them to be scared of guys with walkie talkies and listen lol
A lot of schools just hand you the leather folder on stage and make you check out afterwards in order to get your actual diploma. That way, students will be less willing to be disruptive during the ceremony.
