1. When doing this, make sure you reverse (mirror) the image before printing since it will be reversed when you apply it to the wood. (Reflect is usually the transform tool.) 2. Printers don't print "white" so whatever color the wood is will show through onto the white areas. So this works best with light colors of wood. 3. Deep knots or irregularities should be filled with wood filler then sanded. 4. If you apply a Photoshop artistic filter (like brush strokes) then you can use the top layer of Mod Podge to sort of match the brush strokes in the photo. This will give it a bit of a hand-painted look.
This is amazing! My mom didn't want us to buy any presents this year. She said that with everything going on, she didn't want my brother and I spending any extra money, so she's always talked about this method, and I thought I'd print out my favorite pictures of my brother, Mom, and I and make a couple of these. Having her explain it was one thing, but of all the videos I watched so that I could actually see it being done, this one was my favorite! I LOVE the addition of the vinyl and staining the wood gave it a little something extra. Mine are drying right now and I hope I can get as flawless a finished product as you did, lol. Great job! Now I want to experiment even more!
I agree! I'm leaning towards making Lil handmade things fir Xmas. My only problem is making time to just relax and do this! For me a gift like this would mean more to me than something store bought.
I just found you and I love that you show wonderfully done crafts with affordable products instead of plugging expensive products! I have everything to do this and can't wait to try it!
That is AWESOME! I have lots of scrap wood, a "dremel" (wen rotary tool), woodburner, lots of paint, router, and clock pieces....sooooo....THIS gives me LOTS of ideas!! Thanks!!!
Crystal Ann , great job! For people who want less knots on their pieces of wood planks. It's best to use a premium wood, such as Maple wood or Birch wood. It's lighter in color and images will show through nicely! Thanks for sharing your artistic video, Crystal Ann!😊
Really cool! one tip for someone making a larger picture, is to begin from the center and radiate out to the corners when rolling out the air bubbles. thumbs up!
I can’t see how anyone could dislike this video unless they wanted an instant gratification type video. Like a 7 second video isn’t going to as amazing as this!! This is the most perfect video!

I'm glad I read your comments because I was going to say how lame I was for watching this 2 yrs. after the fact. I never realized how easy it was to transfer pictures. I love it & you did an excellent presentation. (New subbie)
Hi looks so good, just a little advice though. The technique seals the face of the wood, unless you seal the back of the piece the wood will dry unevenly in doors and it will bow. Would be a pity to spoil a nice project. Regards From an ancient cabinet maker.
Will this work with an inkjet printer ? I have seen some videos on here that say it has to be a laser print picture ?
4 года назад+1
I don't think it will work. I am currently searching for an inkjet print on wood and every video so far that uses such a method was doen with an laser print. But I haven't tried until now with this method.
I am an old carpenter/cabinetmaker. This is first an observation, and then comment, and then question. Pine like you used is a soft wood, (coniferous), and very open grained. The more you sand it, say 180 grit, 220, and 400, the tighter you will close the grain. Now the question. Do you think coating just the wood with mod podge to seal it, let it dry, and sand with 400 grit, would improve your experience? After it dried you would do everything the same. (This is NOT a critique of your work).
You could use painters tape to outline the picture before using the modge podge the second time around to make sure you don't have anything going over your border so will be easier to do the most pause
This couple actually got divorced last month, and I picked up this art work in an estate sale. I don't know the couple, but I like it and CrystalAnn's workmanship has held up nicely. I'd say two years later it even looks better.
Thank you so much for this. I was totally convinced I had to buy a bunch of fusion products and an iron to get a decent transfer. I already own the modge podge and now I feel confident because of your video that I can do this! Thank you so much for taking something that is so difficult for me and making it seem possible. This is the first time I ever watched one of your videos and I am now subscribed and can't wait for the next one. Thanks again

For someone that is so creativly handicapped you make it look so easy and the way you explain everything is wonderful. Hi. Fantastic video! I'm new to crafts and was wondering about the font transfer. I heard you mention using transfer paper and vinyl but where did the original text characters come from? Did you print them using a printer or have them custom made online? Thank you!
Paper tip* If you have a LaserJet printer...get some self stick label paper. Peel the label part off first and print on the shiny side of the backing paper. Then after you do the Mod Podge step and it dries, you can basically peel it right off. No water, no rubbing, no mess. I believe they also make special transfer paper, but the labels are easier to find.
actually I just saw another vid where they printed with an inkjet printer....and put it on the wood while it was still wet ..NO MOD PODGE...and peeled the paper off after only a few minutes. BUT you might have to mess with the lightness/darkness of the image OR the density in your printer settings so you don't get TOO MUCH ink on the paper.
What kind of printing paper do you recommend? I've tried this. Not working out for me. I love this! I do wood work too and wanna do this! I have an epson hp ink jet printer. Help!

I loved your instructions so easy to follow, but can you explain more about the vinyl lettering. I can only find large vinyl transfers that transfer all the vinyl and not just the writing as you’ve done, can you help with exactly what I would need to source, thank you and again great video

@@YouCanTotallyMakeThat thank you very much for your quick reply! I will do that! It is just another level when you put the vinyls on the picture! Awesome video!!
I have a question. I would like to have that piece of wood 🪵 coloured in the background, I should I use lacquer instead of paint? Actually, I’m worried to paint and to do not be able to transfer any impression on it later. Because I’m about to print a map on a piece of wood and the background must be rustic and gray. Could you help?

If you put something heavy and flat on top. Would that prevent bubbles?
Absolutely amazing!! Is the equipment to do these venyls a big investment? I love the look and see myself creating gorgeous presents but if you need to spend hundreds of $ it makes prolly no sense as a hobby crafter.
you can get one for around $200 or check your local swap sites for a used one I would get the cricut explore air 2. not only could you use it for vinyl you can make shirts paper crafts ect.. hope this helps
@@YouCanTotallyMakeThat thank you very much for your quick reply! I will do that! It is just another level when you put the vinyls on the picture! Awesome video!!
No problem and I totally agree :) and Thank you so much
I have a question. I would like to have that piece of wood 🪵 coloured in the background, I
should I use lacquer instead of paint? Actually, I’m worried to paint and to do not be able to transfer any impression on it later. I wish I could send you an image of the project I have in mind to allow you to tell me if it is possible to realize it. Because I’m about to print a map on a piece of wood and the background must be rustic and gray. Could you help?
I was thinking the same use lacquer. Did you finally go for it how did it come out?
U should try using a router and putting a trim around the edge.
Jyoung I was searching through the comments to see if anyone was thinking the same thing I was. Even just a small lip for the picture to sit on would have gave it some more beautiful definition 😍
You made a hunk of wood a work of art, it's stunning, Thank You for sharing you knowledge 🎉🎆🎉🎆🎉🎆🥰 💛
I luv the way you did this specially the black lettering makes it stand out with matching black in his waist coat

Would this also work If you coated the wood then pressed the picture onto it instead of this way ?

I love this!!! I wanted to ask if it's possible to use either a laser or ink jet printer I hear laser printer is more better? But I'm not sure. Thank you for your time 😊
