You should definitely become a motorcycle vlogger!!! Do test rides, ride days, tours. Also you’re a woman and could help other women get into riding. I wish you all the best 😊
Congratulations! The MSF is a great course and you learn a lot of the fundamentals in it. Riding on the road is much different than on a closed course but the lessons you learned will help. Like someone else said, it's a good idea to continue to take more advanced courses to become a better and safer rider. You're doing a great job, keep it up!
Congratulations! Just remember to never stop learning, improving, and practicing. Riding a Motorcycle is a skill and in some cases, an art form. Some road tips: Just assume people can't see you and ride defensive. Keep in your mind a quick escape route and be ready to rapidly stop/accelerate out of trouble. Car drivers will scare the ever living shit out of you and if that happens, don't be afraid to pull over, take a breath and collect yourself. Gods know I've had to do that plenty on the side of the road.
Congratulations! My bride took the course this past weekend also. She had never been on a bike until a few months ago and spent a lot of time in a parking lot preparing. Aced it! Never too old to start. (We are old)
Hi from Bundaberg Australia 🇦🇺🍹 Rea You make good helpful videos 👍😊 I'm 58 & about to do my learners course here in Bundaberg Queensland Aus & iv been watching lots of videos on how to ride a motorcycle & watched many Australian & American 🇺🇲 Bike courses videos & soaking up all information 👍 im not nervous or scared about anything ! Im just eager to start & get my motorcycle licence , im starting on a Honda CB125F , Same bikes are used in Australia at most training centres so i went & brought one just to learn on ! Once ive obtained my Restricted Licence i can ride anything up to 660cc in Aus 🏍 🇦🇺 Then il upgrade to a Kawasaki Eliminator 500 or a Cruiser Indian 🤔🤔 haven't decided as yet , Thanks to people like You Rea we new riders can feel at ease & grow confidence after viewing your videos 😊👍 Cheers from down under in Aus 🍹🕺
Nice work! I did this course when I started riding about 5 years ago. Was able to pass (somehow) despite never having ridden a motorcycle at all. One thing that's cool about you starting on a small bike (I started on a 250 myself) is that if or when you step up to something bigger/more powerful, you kind of get to have this "new and exciting" feeling all over again. Anyway, have fun & be safe!
Thank you! The course was great and I totally agree about starting on a smaller bike and getting to upgrade. I’m looking forward to my next bike already haha
Well done! I agree though, there's too much they try to teach in too little time to actually learn anything. The best way I've found is to focus on correcting my biggest mistake that day and then *sleep on it* If you're interested, the British police sell a book called "Motorcycle roadcraft", last updated in 2020, which goes into a lot of detail about how to both make use of all the advantages of a bike (size, speed, agility) *and* remain as safe as possible. It's good stuff, my copy got here yesterday and I had some time to skim through last night, it should be pretty useful to any new (or old) rider. I don't know if the police ship internationally, but Amazon sell both paperback and Kindle editions, so it should be possible to get it.
Congradulations, and I'm really proud of you Rea! I took the MSF class last weekend and passed as well. I'm going to pickup my Rebel 500 this week and super excited!
@@TheMaskedheel How do you like it? I was looking at a RE Himalayan but the only local dealer wanted $1500 in fees for it plus I heard the front brake feels squishy.
Wife and niece just took it this past weekend as well. Wife also took it 18 years ago, but hasn't ridden in 15, so she took it for a refresher and as moral support for our niece. I took it with my wife 18 years ago, though I'd already been riding for ~30 years at the time. I learned new things and she actually scored better than me on the final test out (though they don't give scores these days). VERY worth the time, cost, and effort to take the course today, and this is coming from someone who's been riding for ~50 years now.
When I took the course the one person who had laid down their bike did it for the same exact reason. Panic braking during a turn. This was why in the beginning of our test they told us not to hover our right hand over the brake and have our left hand hovering over the clutch. Because if you panic, grabbing the front brake will make you do down compared to grabbing the clutch. Great job on your videos btw Rea, makes me miss my motovlogging days I did on my channel. Ride safe!
Oh no!! I feel like it’s such a common mistake for beginners to make. I definitely had my hand hovering over the front brake constantly and I had to break that habit. And thank you so much 😊 it really fun to make these videos and I’m glad you enjoy them :) I’m trying to figure out a better moto vlog set up for riding. That’s been a challenge for me to figure out
Congratulations to you I knew you could do it; I remember when I took the class it was 3 days and we had 50 questions that was 20 years ago wow things have changed. Congratulations again and stay safe out there.
🎉🎉🎉CONGRATULATIONS 🎉🎉🎉 on passing Rea that's totally awesome. I'm studying the dmv book for motorcycle. To get my permit so I can buy my Street Bob. The truth is practice practice. Learning the friction zone is very important. Again CONGRATULATIONS 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Congratulations with passing the test. And the fact that you're doing the safety course even though you don't have to shows a level of matureness and responsibility I miss in many younger drivers. I'm going to tag along with the rest of the comments and say "keep on doing lessons". There's no shame is excelling, and here it'll improve your own and others safety. Keep on posting as well!
I’m some states it’s required but in others it’s not! My state does not require the MSF course. We can just get our license from the DMV (by taking the written and driving motorcycle test)
In Pennsylvania we did the written test before the riding portion. 5 out of 11 in my group failed including me, and I'd already ridden 1500 miles at that point. Something we weird because a different instructor showed up to give the riding test. I do recommend taking the intermediate or advanced course every year for your first five years of riding.
Congrats Rea 🎉 🤗 on passing your MSF course 🏍 💯 I'm extremely happy for you. I'm from Oahu and miss home. I've been in Las Vegas ,Nv since 02-04-08 I also went through the Harley Davidson Academy MSF motorcycle training course which was last year and passed the course on 10-5-22. I currently don't have a motorcycle yet but I'll see what options fit me best . Ride safely always 💯🏍
The course is required here in California and I got my endorsement 4 years ago. Had some disappointment in my life recently so I pulled the trigger on a Honda Rebel 500. Boy did I forget a lot! LOL
Congratulations! In at least one state of Australia (where I live) a learner rider has to have a fully licenced rider with them on every ride. This makes it difficult because you have to find a mate to ride with you and you also have to make sure they don't get away from you. Enjoy your rides and keep safe.
Wow, in my us state, Texas you just pass the course and take the certificate to the drivers license office and that’s it. No driving or written test. You could do it the other way with the permit and driving test if you don’t want to pay $250 for the class.
I just took the MSF class! I’ve been watching your journey bc I wanted to learn as well. I was intimidated and decided not to take the final skills test. I learned a lot and want to keep learning but those tight turns got in my head! I love your videos
I’m so glad you took the course!! It’s definitely a lot to learn in a short period of time which can be pretty overwhelming. I think what helped for me was the fact that I had already been practicing in parking lots before taking the course so it wasn’t as much new information all at once. I think if you take the course again you’ll feel more comfortable and able to focus on the skills portion! You got this! Tight turns are scary but turning your head and keeping your eyes up really helped me with them 😊
Congratulations! The journey continues! As you get more comfortable on the bike, please consider continuing to take classes to further develop your skills. I've been riding for ten years and I'm in fact taking a 44 hour two weekend long advanced course starting this weekend. Like they say... as the diameter of island of your knowledge base grows, much more dramatically does the circumference of unknown around your knowledge base grows. I can totally understand the nerves you felt before your class... it's about hitting me right now haha!
Woohoo! Congrats! Very nice job both with the written and riding portions. Not bragging...I aced the written, lol. I'm actually looking at buying the Rebel 300. I live in a very small town and both roads leading out of here require 60 mph. I currently have a 2023 Honda Monkey. It will only do 53 mph so she has to go bye bye. Congrats again. I'm loving your journey! Well done.
That’s interesting, the bikes my class used all were the same (harley) and had drop guards. So dropping the bike was more forgiving & It happened often. CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉🥳🥳🥳🙌🙌🙌 I don't know when you actually took the class. It would be cool if it was this past weekend because I had my motorcycle safety course class and PASSED as well. I am so excited 🥳
I had never ridden other than a bicycle before my class and passed. I did okay on the first day but starting the 2nd my wrist and shoulder problems starting acting up from 10 hrs of throttle control. I did bad on the test lost 15(?)points but still passed. We had a guy from a previous class who worked at a cycle shop fail and he dropped his bike on day 2 and passed. Got my license and bike the next day and was riding down main roads at 35mph within 2days of passing. Not a hard class.
Congrats. 🎉. I decided to take it with my daughter being a 30 year vet. When we got there I thought “ oh god, what if I fail “ It was really fun. Since then we took the more advanced class. Usually this is on your own bike. I highly recommend it. You will get super comfortable with your machine and confidence level will go way up.
I gotta take the Beginner's course soon at 68. Just waiting on a battery for my '18 V Star 250. Both hips replaced, right last June. Balance is better now, so I should be trying again this weekend. Wish I passed the test already. That Ohio bike fest in Vermilion is coming up soon. I really wanted to go this year!
Congrats for passing the MSF. You go out on the road, first, Relax you belong there. Second, keep your head on a swivel. Unless it has really changed, Hawaii is pretty easy to ride. It does have it's moments though.
how did you pick up your bike/move it around to be able to practice on level ground? I have a truck, but I'd be afraid putting it on a ramp that high with the weight of a bike. This is inspiring, thank you for sharing! I've been thinking about buying a bike before taking the course too - but felt a little silly about it.
They make those trailer hitch ramps. I’m weary about driving a 500lb bike up a truck bed as well. You could also see what rental places have available. Me I got my bike delivered. I live in a small town with quiet neighborhoods to practice in. Most dealers will deliver because you will pay for it.
Most dealers will deliver to you! I fortunately had someone experienced with me to ride the bike home after I bought it and would ride it to and from my practice spots when I would go to empty parking lots.
damn... I wish in my country it was that relaxed... Our exams are done by local governing body. You need to pass theory first there are like 2000 questions and you get random 20 general and 12 technical for license you want to do, to pass you can get like 2 or 3 wrong answers (different questions have different scoring points so you might be lucky and get 2 wrong and pass or unlucky and fail) Only when you pass theory exam and do mandatory "msf-like" course you can participate in practical exam. Do they teach you how to learn the clutch? And do they thoroughly go through the course and like exactly where to go? I’m very nervous for mine even though I can’t even take it yet😅
Hi! Yes they teach you how to use the clutch. They give good direction for each drill and even have one of the instructors demonstrate each drill. No need to be nervous :) they’re there to teach you and help you learn 😊
So what? It's still exciting to pass & be able to finally get out on the road for real. Who gives a fuck if it's easy to pass the MSF? No need to be downing on someone for anything they're excited about.
Yes it’s true the majority of people pass. But not everyone does! Some people drop out and leave the class halfway through. (which actually happened in this group) There was also someone in the class taking it for his second time.
@@RidewithRea they drop out of their own accord. Most of these State approved classes are scams , setting students up for failure. How can you be road ready when they never take you out in traffic? damn... I wish in my country it was that relaxed... Our exams are done by local governing body.
You need to pass theory first there are like 2000 questions and you get random 20 general and 12 technical for license you want to do, to pass you can get like 2 or 3 wrong answers (different questions have different scoring points so you might be lucky and get 2 wrong and pass or unlucky and fail)
Only when you pass theory exam and do mandatory "msf-like" course you can participate in practical exam.
That one is also done by government unit, you get a bike (MT-07) and need to do multiple drills like fig 8, slaloms, uphill start, avoid obstacle, motorcycle knowledge etc. There are no "points", if you touch a cone, stall, go over white lines you FAIL instantly.
If you pass that, GREAT JOB... it's time for part 2 - city riding. Msf seems to be for people who dont know common sense for bikes
