  • The day is finally here! I took the MSF Course and had a GREAT time. I put together a little vlog of my experience taking the Motorcycle Safety Foundation Class -days 1-3. In this video you will see some behind the scenes as well as info about the class each day. They had me riding a Yamaha TW 200! Do you think I passed? Don't worry, I will let you know in this video!
Thanks for joining me on my motorcycle riding journey. If you liked this video be sure to check out other videos on my channel. I will continue to post more of my progress as a beginner rider :) Next destination: the real world lol :)
I hope to post a vlog of my first experience riding out on the road & in traffic soon!

Congratulations! The MSF is a great course and you learn a lot of the fundamentals in it. Riding on the road is much different than on a closed course but the lessons you learned will help. Like someone else said, it's a good idea to continue to take more advanced courses to become a better and safer rider. You're doing a great job, keep it up!

Congratulations! Just remember to never stop learning, improving, and practicing. Riding a Motorcycle is a skill and in some cases, an art form.
Some road tips: Just assume people can't see you and ride defensive. Keep in your mind a quick escape route and be ready to rapidly stop/accelerate out of trouble.
Car drivers will scare the ever living shit out of you and if that happens, don't be afraid to pull over, take a breath and collect yourself. Gods know I've had to do that plenty on the side of the road.

I agree though, there's too much they try to teach in too little time to actually learn anything. The best way I've found is to focus on correcting my biggest mistake that day and then *sleep on it*
If you're interested, the British police sell a book called "Motorcycle roadcraft", last updated in 2020, which goes into a lot of detail about how to both make use of all the advantages of a bike (size, speed, agility) *and* remain as safe as possible. It's good stuff, my copy got here yesterday and I had some time to skim through last night, it should be pretty useful to any new (or old) rider.
I don't know if the police ship internationally, but Amazon sell both paperback and Kindle editions, so it should be possible to get it.

damn... I wish in my country it was that relaxed... Our exams are done by local governing body.
You need to pass theory first there are like 2000 questions and you get random 20 general and 12 technical for license you want to do, to pass you can get like 2 or 3 wrong answers (different questions have different scoring points so you might be lucky and get 2 wrong and pass or unlucky and fail)
Only when you pass theory exam and do mandatory "msf-like" course you can participate in practical exam.
That one is also done by government unit, you get a bike (MT-07) and need to do multiple drills like fig 8, slaloms, uphill start, avoid obstacle, motorcycle knowledge etc. There are no "points", if you touch a cone, stall, go over white lines you FAIL instantly.
If you pass that, GREAT JOB... it's time for part 2 - city riding. You get coms, person who does examination is in a car behind you and they tell you where to go, for example "on next possible turn we go left" and you do that of course with all road rules in mind, you need to ride exactly how law dictates. If you pass that - you got a license, if you fail... well you can get another exam.

Wife and niece just took it this past weekend as well. Wife also took it 18 years ago, but hasn't ridden in 15, so she took it for a refresher and as moral support for our niece. I took it with my wife 18 years ago, though I'd already been riding for ~30 years at the time. I learned new things and she actually scored better than me on the final test out (though they don't give scores these days).
VERY worth the time, cost, and effort to take the course today, and this is coming from someone who's been riding for ~50 years now.

Nice work! I did this course when I started riding about 5 years ago. Was able to pass (somehow) despite never having ridden a motorcycle at all. One thing that's cool about you starting on a small bike (I started on a 250 myself) is that if or when you step up to something bigger/more powerful, you kind of get to have this "new and exciting" feeling all over again. Anyway, have fun & be safe!

This was why in the beginning of our test they told us not to hover our right hand over the brake and have our left hand hovering over the clutch. Because if you panic, grabbing the front brake will make you do down compared to grabbing the clutch. Great job on your videos btw Rea, makes me miss my motovlogging days I did on my channel. We had a guy who failed the previous course in my class. They let him take it again for free. He did good and the last 30 minutes of the class he dropped the bike. He worked in a cycle shop as well. He scored 3rd highest this time. We also had a 72 yr old 110lb lady pass on a Grom.

do they give you a helmet to use or do you need to come with your own gear and if so what gear do you need to bring.

You should bring your own helmet. They did have extras available in case you really don’t own one but the sizes that have may vary so I wouldn’t rely on that.
So you do need a helmet. (FULL FACE, no open face helmets. If it’s an open face, you’ll need riding goggles or eyes protection)
      You’ll also need:
-shoes that cover your ankles (boots, high top sneakers, etc)
      -long sleeve shirt or jacket
      -riding GLOVES
-long pants (no thin materials, denim or any thicker material good)
