- Go behind the scenes of our backyard transformation! We decided to install a Master Spas swim spa. As part of the project, we installed a concrete pad for the spa and extended the patio.

In this video, we also show you the delivery process, the water delivery, and our first (chilly!) dip in the swim spa.
Details of our Master Spas swim spa delivery:
Our swim spa was delivered on a fork lift but we did have to remove two fence panels.
We decided to get a water truck instead of using city water to fill the swim spa. It took less than 20 minutes. The water was 50(ish) degrees, and it warmed up about a degree per hour. The kids were able to swim the next day; I waited two days.
We have a traditional cover but did get a hydraulic cover lift.
We also plan to add more to the backyard, including garden beds and furniture. Stay tuned as we share more of our backyard transformation.

Why did we get a swim spa?
After spending a year at home and with limited access to a pool, we wanted a place where we could spend time together as a family. I'm also taking on my first half-distance triathlon. It's difficult to make it to the pool, and the swim spa will make it easier to fit in my swims and balance family time.

In Indiana. You've had it a couple years now. How much does it cost to heat in the Dec to Feb months?
Was hooking up the electrical pretty easy? Were getting ours in 3 weeks. Have everything set up, just a little anxious about hooking up the wires.
We had an electrician come to the house. It seemed pretty seamless, even for our old house.
Is it expe sive to run, how much is the electeicity?

Where did that water come from?? The installers? The hose!!

How is it in winter. And do you have to shovel a path thru snow? I want one but dont want to deal with snow in winter.
We do have to shovel to get to the spa. The biggest thing is getting snow off the cover so you can open it. But I feel like I have more days without snow than with snow, at least here in Indiana.
I have a metal gazebo over the swim spa with net curtains. It keeps the snow, bugs and leaves out and the water is always clean. Can swim while it's snowing or raining. I'd keep the spa as close as possible to the back door. Also the retractable covers that role back are much easier and faster. Encourages me to use the pool more.

I love it! We use it so much more than we ever thought we would. It's really helped my son overcome his fear of water. We've found it to be really easy to take care of, too.
If you had to do it again; would you? Would you do anything different? Researching my own first 70.3 dreams....
I would definitely do it again. We have used it more than we ever thought we would. On the training side, I really don't think that I could have fit in my swims and maintained my sanity otherwise. I would have built the pad a little bit bigger so I could have added more steps.

How much more concrete would you have added?
Looking at one of these. Not for training, just exercise and play. Is it too hot for the summer to use as a pool?
Definitely not! We used it all summer as a family. We were able to keep it in the 80s without issue.
Wood frame? No bueno
