Hello Trent. Great to hear from you. You're looking well. Sorry to hear that 2022 has been a tough one but thank you for mentioning mental health. Too few of us ever talk about this; it seems to be the last great taboo so, as someone with my own patchy journey, I welcome any and all voices mentioning it. A few words are all it needs, just to give viewers the reassurance that any mental health problems they may be going through are okay and are not their fault.
On the weird RUclips light years subscriber analogy, here's an equivalent one in the same spirit. If each of your subscribers were to fire one pellet into the bells of your schalmei then they might turn it into a musical instrument. Or, if you were to buy a violin, pass it around all your subscribers and get them to whack it once with a mallet, the result would be both fun and an improvement.

Trent - welcome back - life is NOT easy sometimes...I have a 'small' recommendation for your channel: you need to standardize the volume of your vids...this particular video - the first of 2023 - is almost inaudible for some reason...and when the COMMERCIALS came on, I almost get blown back in my seat..I know that being your own 'tech' is not such an easy thing - but SO MANY of us musicians are counting on your to keep on keeping on, you know! So, cheers and keep on wit the videos...I've been sitting here for almost 3 hours going back through some of the 'oldies' and they]re so fascinating! You've inspired me to take out my ancient B&H trombone and give it a shot (after 20 years!!!) God bless you from Toronto!

Thanks for the feedback, I'll take that on board :) With live streams it is much harder to regulate and monitor the mic levels through youtube.

Hi Trent, your videos are wonderful! I especially enjoy all the inventive projects you take on with different valve setups and wacky instruments. I would love to hear what other ideas are rattling around in your brain! Looking forward to what you do in 2023!

As someone who's done roofing in the past and been around roofers, I am not surprised by your experience with them. If you find a reliable roofer, hold on to them like a trustworthy mechanic.

Congratulations with the 100.000 subs. Great to see that you are still making videos with some odd brass instruments. Take care of yourself so you can have a lot of fun with your children. Hav a great 2023

Dear Trent, as an avide fan of your's, I've really missed your videos! I hope that you're doing exceptionally well in your health, whether it be physical or mental and that you keep very much happy as you are totally in general, from what we have all seen of you in the past...Something for your thoughts: I owned a Holton TR181 Double Independant bass trombone from around the early 1980s and played it in many ensembles, but predominantly, a Championship Section brass band in England, The United Kingdom. I always wondered why on earth, l found it quite difficult to get a real loud equivalent sound when using the F Trigger and 3rd position for the Eb below the stave, and each note below using that trigger. For years, l considered that it was my slight inferiority preventing my ability! Then about 3-4 years ago, l had a special thought! I decided that the F trigger tubing was too close together and was producing far too much resistance! Then l discovered the term, 'Closed Wrap' and 'Open Wrap'. I researched a lot of appropriate instruments sitting in each of the terminology. My investigations brought up a very quality 'Open Wrap' instrument, a Yamaha YBL 830G Custom Xeno double independent 'Open Wrap'. I tried it in quite a few ensembles and my reaction to the general overall sound right across the natural spectrum was incredible in comparison to the Holton. It speaks really well using both triggers, equivalent to all the notes on the slide. Trent, l do apologise profusely for such a long and boring post but I thought you might be slightly interested. Happy New Year, okay late but nevertheless thoughtful. From Den Finch x

I know this is a year late but i think a VST or equivalent of a couple of your unusual instruments (or just one) would actually be lovely.
I like Spitfire Audio's LABS which has a range of tiny VSTs. Weird imperfect instruments can be be the perfect weird sound in soundtracks
(Aware that typing a comment is easier than recording an instrument 😅)

Good to hear from you Trent. I missed the live stream but caught up watching it. I play saxophones, a straight soprano and an alto sax and I have always wanted to play a slide saxophone but have yet to get one. There were horns in the 1920s that were made cheaply that were a conical body like that slide saxophone you have, but had a leather strap with holes to play notes and the strap went along the long opening and covered it and they used soprano saxophone mouthpieces. The strap had holes in it where you place your fingers to play notes. Not many survive today. The video "Unheard of Instruments in the Saxophone Family" showing some of Dr Paul Cohen's saxophone collection by The United States Army Field Band, shows one of those horns and a slide soprano saxophone: /watch?v=p-b6I1ihh2s

I think a great way to improve the playability of the swanee would be to add braille; probably on the other side of the slide where the letters are
