Nicely done. The muffler on my R50 completely rusted off the exhaust pipe. It sounded great, not sick, even without the tailpipe parts you added, but, I wanted a quiet exhaust so my young son doesn't get a ticket and so I can hear my radio. I did the same as you, except instead of the new straight pipe, I used a Thrush muffler 17702, clamps and a hanger. The tailpipe is a 45 degree angle pipe, and the factory chrome tip fit perfectly. To my surprise it sounds almost as quiet as when it was a new car. Factory muffler is over $550, local shop would do their version for $255, or their cheap version would be like my set up with a resonator in front of the turbo muffler. I paid $30 for the muffler and $25 for hangers and clamps.
best thing about this? you remove about 55 lbs of dead weight when you lose the stock muffler😃. i ran a straight pipe, with a resonated tip. deeper tone than any civic, really impressive sound the mini cooper puts out in person. 2003 cooper base manual 5 speed. don't count on any horsepower gains, and gas mileage seems to have dropped a hair, but not enough to care.
Hi buddy, is it a 2” pipe or is it a different pipe but the flare is 2”. Could you help me out as I want to do this to my mini r50, but need the size of each pipe
Nah you'd be ok for the most part. Emissions wouldn't be an issue but you may get a tug by the plod if it's incredibly loud! Most don't seem to care though even though there is actually legislation in place for dB levels.
@@patcoolboy I'm shocked to see 5 people upvoted you, scary. While you probably won't gain any bhp you absolutely WILL NOT lose bhp either. I love it when people say "oOh BuT yOu NeEd BaCk PrEsSuRe" - You don't. Increased back pressure is the enemy of the ability for an engine to breathe.

I'm planning on doing this to my r56 would it be obnoxiously loud if I leave the resonator in?

Those silencers really are incredibly heavy! Crazy to be honest!
What size pipe, and what angle did you use for the bend?
Is the cat and centre silencer still in this exhaust?
I'm guessing the little resonator and cat is still in place.
I’ve got a base model 2009 Mini Cooper, this will work on her right?
did you do it how is it?
2009 is not a R50. Watch out tutorial might not be 100% accurate
How has this affected your gas mileage? I've go to replace the muffler on my 06 R52 and this looks pretty cool but would hate to lose my 30 MPG
An increase in airflow is only going to improve your gas mileage.

Spot on.
Im gonna do this but I’m gonna remove that shield material and use a bigger cutting wheel 😅

Would do the same in the UK give you issues when it comes to putting the car in for its MOT?
