    I've had this for a long time-- about a little more than a year, and it feels not too bad, especially as an entry point to sticks. The only modification I've made to mine was installing an oct gate to replace the square gate that comes stock as at least for me having the tactile feedback of going from one position to another is absolutely paramount to my execution.
    The lap and the stick and button position comments are totally valid. This is definitely a table stick rather than a lap stick.

    • @Fuyu_Arashi99
      @Fuyu_Arashi99 2 года назад +3

      Same here. I initially only had an octo gate instead of the stock square gate, but I eventually modded it with silent Sanwa buttons and a Sanwa joystick, and it is amazing for PC.

    A very good review overall! I have this stick and want to offer a bit of a different perspective. I am not an advanced fighting game player, casual enjoyer at best. Hower I love playing retro or modern arcade style games - SHMUPs, beat `em ups, side scrollers like Metal Slug or just emulate old 8bit and 6 bit games. And this stick is AMAZING for that even in its stock form. I can kick back on the couch, load up some games on my switch or PC hooked up to the TV and enjoy some retro/arcade goodness spiced up with some sweet nostalgia! Its a 10/10 stick for that purpose.
    I would even argue that the slightly loose stick is a feature. Remember the day you used to visit the arcades? I dont know about you, but for me it would be EXTREMELY rare to have a cabinet with super crisp and tight stick. Most would be loose and some barely working. Yes its not optimal but it does bring me back to that time, which I like.

    • @NihongoGamer

    This was my first stick! I bought it about 9 months ago for FighterZ. Ive had a hard time playing fighting games with a regular controller and because i play mainly on keyboard and mouse I figured a stick would be a perfect fit. Took some practice but now i feel comfortable playing fighting games. Now ive tricked it out with orange buttons, a 4 stsr dragon ball top and a few Dragon Ball stickers. Love this thing so much.

    This stick is pretty nice for casual play with friends. A spring swap or changing the lever to a Sanwa JLF is essential if you want to get serious since the stock lever is a bit loose. I barely use it on the Switch though, the bluetooth makes it really makes it convenient for quick matches on PC so I use it there more. Sucks that screw in buttons don't really fit but that's the only thing I don't particularly like about this stick.

      Would you say this is a good stick for someone who’s never used a stick before? The only thing I’m worried about is the stick itself being weird to do electrics on. Not sure if the limited space for resting my palm would matter since I don’t have any previous muscle memory that I have to fight against.

    fyi it's actually pretty heavy. feels as solid as old TE sticks from madcatz. miss those. wish the start/select buttons were buttons on the side but i guess if you really want you can have them as p1/p2 buttons for config. And i like a lot of space, didnt find the side bothersome w/wineglass style between middle and ring finger. thanks for the video, i can see why people mod it. quality is great and bluetooth/wireless is amazing. just dope as a product for fans of gaming. if you dont have 200-300 for a better stick or need a wireless solution more than you think, this is perfect.

    I don't feel much need for a fight stick on Switch since I just don't own any fighting games on it. The reason I grabbed this is the Switch is absolutely full to bursting with arcade style shoot 'em ups. Unfortunately, the loose stick in the stock unit was a deal breaker in that environment. I tightened it up with an octagon gate and oversized actuator. I imagine it's probably awful as a fight stick now, but other genres are playing pretty well.

    • @Shmuptopia
      @Shmuptopia 2 года назад +2

      Shmups are the only reason I started picking up sticks for Switch. So far, they've been awesome to experiment with even though I don't use them for every single arcade shooter. At this point, I lean more toward dpad for retro shmups and I'm wondering if there are any dpad arcade "sticks" on the market where there's no actual stick, but a dpad instead.

    I've been an avid fight stick enthusiast and FGC member for many years. I have several fight sticks and leverless sticks, all upgraded and tweaked to my liking. The 8 bit is by far my favorite stick. Definitely swap out the normal components to improve it, and with a detachable joystick it's probably the most portable on the market I would argue, both size wise and feature wise. Do not make the mistake of discounting this 80 dollar instrument of enjoyment, I would take it over probably any other stick on the market.

I can have at least the main 8 buttons be screw ons although I have only snap ons on that stick. It may not be as compatible but I only play on PC so it's no big deal. I think it has more room for my hand although not as much as my other two sticks and I didn't have to cut wires or so to mod anything with it.

    For someone who would consider the wireless features mostly a nice-to-have (though the removable cable is some fantastic future-proofing in the all but inevitable case of cable failure at some point in the product's lifespan), and rather ergonomics being the main concern, would you consider the extra ~$50 for the hori hayabusa money well spent for its wider base?
    Are there any other points where the 8bitdo stick is an improvement on hori's product? Anything that might make you choose the 8bitdo stick over the hori hayabusa besides the price (and wireless connectivity)? It has been a while for me, so I can't recall the details of your hori hayabusa switch ed. review very clearly in terms of mod-friendliness and such.

    Hello. Do you think it is possible to use this on ps vita? I've always wanted wireless fightstick and my only fighting game in pc is SFV, so I wanted to try some of my ps vita games with a controller on games like Street Fighter X Tekken, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, and Under Night In-Birth.

    I really felt the "Switch owners are second class citizens in the FGC" comment. There's a local gaming bar where we usually host tournaments and grinding meetups in my city and as long as there are available TVs, anybody can bring their own consoles.
    NO MATTER which game I bring, everyone always goes "I like it but I play it only on Playstation". Like, I understand preferring the better performing console for online play, or maybe if you want to practice for a local tournament since these are always played on PS4/5 by default. But for local friendlies? I can't catch a break:
    Bro, let's play Street Fighter 3 3rd Strike!- "Sorry bro, I play it on Playstation"
    Persona 4 Arena Ultimax!- "Playstation"
    Fighting Ex Layer!- "Playstation"
    Dragon Ball Fighter Z!- "Playstation"
    Blazblue Cross Tag!- "Playstation"
    Guilty Gear Accel Core+!- "Playstation" (or Steam in this case, but why tf do you need rollback for LOCAL PLAY? Jesus christ everybody, just play some friendlies with me, I swear the Switch doesn't bite!)
    I just wanna play FGs man.

      @NihongoGamer  2 года назад

      Hmm Bob urs is wasd tho right? Does the 8bitdo have socd cleaning built in? Might consider doing it if it were the Odin Loki version with right thumb jump. But even then the AS Indo Cardimod+ is more flexible position wise. Also right hand position a bit too far left when placed on lap.

    • @WulffDen
      @WulffDen 2 года назад

      @@NihongoGamer Yeah mine is the WASD configuration. I'm not sure about the SOCD, you may need an additional device for the loki / cardi to passthrough for that.
      The cardimod is installed using an adhesive right? The only reason I'm all about the odin is it just plops in right where the stick hole was and screws in nice and tightly. But if you aren't a fan of where that hole is, I could see the potential issue.

    I wanted a fighting stick to be back in the versus world and to play Guilty gear. I switched the lever for a Sanwa. I’m very happy of the deal but constantly asking to myself what would be the feeling with a more pro Arcade stick like Qanba Obsidian. ( agree on the space and balance on your knees) The problem is that I live in Europe and there are no other options a part from the Mayflash 300 and 500. It s frustrating to see all those other fighting stick or Hitbox and not having access to them without paying shipping and huge taxes.

    • @DrDiemotma
      @DrDiemotma 2 года назад

      What about Hori RAP? This one really has a lot of real estate for your hand. And usually available here. The F500 is also a good option if you mod the leaver (has some backlash, too).

    • @TheLaw210
      @TheLaw210 2 года назад

      @@DrDiemotma Hori Rap is not available anymore. Only the Hori Alpha. It’s not made with Sanwa components and I read that it’s not ideal for fighting games witch quarter, half circles moves. Also the test of the Hori Alpha made by Nihongo was not convincing. Would you recommend the Hori Alpha over the 8bitdo with a Sanwa lever to play Guilty Gear strive (PC)? Please @nihongogamer let us know also your input.

    • @DrDiemotma
      @DrDiemotma 2 года назад

      @@TheLaw210 If you like the Noir layout, that is an option. In my region, there's still the Switch version available from the RAP. Both have the Hayabusa parts which some people like more than Sanwa; personally, I don't.
      You might also consider the F500 Elite which has all Sanwa parts; I personally think the case of the F500 to be a very good sweet spot for width and weight (although, have the predecessor, but hope they haven't changed too much there...). If you play on PC, there's no problem with the pass-through.

    • @TheLaw210
      @TheLaw210 2 года назад

      @@DrDiemotma yeah I thought about the F500 elite as it s one of the only available in my region. Do you think it is worth it to move from my 8bitdo Sanwa modded to that model? Will my move be more consistent and the stick will not move on my knees ? I don’t want to buy a second OK stick. I would rather for a more pro version to access the next level. But pro fighting stick are not available here 😅😢

    • @DrDiemotma
      @DrDiemotma 2 года назад +1

      @@TheLaw210 Will it move less? Yes. More consistent? That is up to you. If that's your worst problem, you should really try an all button stick. I've build one on my own, with a Snack Box case, but that is totally not cheap (it was more the fun that was worth the money, not the stick itself - the import of the case was about 90€).
