    Dodge is a joke. They said they’ll be the “muscle car brand” and killed all our beloved models like the minivans and sedans, only then to give us the Hornet CUV and an electric replacement for the Hemi vehicles. WTF? If they’re not gonna be a “muscle car brand” after all, might as well go all in on the mass market segment and give us a new minivan, sedan, crossover, and sports car. I only see hypocrisy with Dodge.
    Same with Chrysler except that Chrysler is worse. Chrysler hasn’t given us anything new since the minivan, and the minivan is gonna be on its way out in a couple years. Chrysler needs some Jeep based premium crossovers and some executive sedans. All they’ve been doing is wasting their 10yr proving span by Stellantis, by just talking and giving us two electric concepts that are both far from what the typical Chrysler buyer wants, and far from ever reaching production. We desperately want reality at Chrysler because they’re just rearranging the deck of a sinking ship. There’s almost no hope in that brand.
    Why does Ram and Jeep get so many new models but Dodge and Chrysler are left scrapping the bottom of the barrel? I’m really pissed with Chrysler/Dodge management. All they do is talk and give us irrelevant products. Dodge and Chrysler 10yrs ago with the 200, 300, Pacifica, Avernger, Dart, Journey, Charger, Challenger, Durango, and Caravan was a lot more iconic and desirable lineup than the bottom of the barrel vehicles they offer today.
    Marspeed, please become CEO of Dodge/Chrysler and give us something that’s actually relevant and desirable from the brands.🙏I know that’s a far fetched wish, but at this point I have more faith in the Mopar fans to run Dodge/Chrysler than I have in the idiot bureaucrats that are running down the iconic brands year after year.
    PS: Great informative video!👍

  • @ThatChargerPursuitGuy
    @ThatChargerPursuitGuy 2 месяца назад +3

    What also didn't help the Hornet was how long (at least around me) it took for them to actually be for sale, sitting on the lot for customers to drive.
    All the ones I saw for most of the year (2023) were either corporate cars or pre-ordered and already sold.
    You ain't gonna get people to buy one if you don't have any way to show them why they should get one.
    I also have heard that Hornets ride rough. Like worse then V6 Chargers, which not a good selling point to the CUV market.

    • @MarspeedCars
      @MarspeedCars  2 месяца назад +4

      I agree that certainly doesn’t help, but Dodge just missed the mark entirely. Think about who wants a CUV in your mind right, then show those people a Hornet. Just the look might put them off! Who wants a muscular performance (still fairly slow) yet expensive CUV that doesn’t do anything particularly well other than being the fastest of the segment and offering bells and whistles like 20” wheels and Brembos. They made a similar mistake with the Dart too. Total fail who wants this thing at that price? Not performance people and not CUV people. I get Dodge = performance, so why not release it as a Chrysler and deliver a CUV with features people want/need? That’s my take. Kinda shocks me people making a lot of money decided it was a good idea.

    • @ThatChargerPursuitGuy

      @@MarspeedCars Oh yeah, wasn't discrediting what you said at all. In fact, I agree 100%.
      I would like to add that maybe they were also trying to appeal to the other side of Dodge owners.
      The V6 Charger, Challenger and Durango owners.
      They were trying to give them a CUV option, which may have worked if they kept the price down and made it themselves.
      Instead tho, they gave people who wanted a Dodge, a re-badged Alfa.
      Then again, seems like all the brands related to Stellantis are making questionable choices.
      Grand Cherokees now feel like Chryslers.
      Low end Jeep (Compass, Cherokee, Renegade) isn't even made by them, just rebadged Fiats.
      Chrysler doesn't understand that a brand needs a line up, not one car with promises of more.
      We discussed Dodge.
      Ram is the only one that seems to get its market.
      I just hope the new Charger helps Dodge recover and the Jeep Recon is actually something that is interesting.
      Edit: One thing I disagree with you with Actually. Don't make the CUV a Chrysler. Bring back Plymouth and make that our dedicated Cheap car company again. Give basic features people want, at a cheap price.

    I know the Hornet is a super slow seller, which is a shame because I’m kinda interested in one. Crazy right? lol. But I don’t think it’s the slowest seller anymore. Heard that honor now goes to the BMW X2.
    And you basically said exactly what I was thinking in regards to why it’s not selling. It’s overpriced compared to other better equipped for the price competitors, and people in the CUV market could care less about the performance.
    Hear me out, split the stupidly overpriced and gimmicky Hornet R/T into 2 different lesser priced models, the SXT and SX-E. The SXT will have the 1.3L turbo (which still makes good power), and the SX-E will be strictly electric, maybe with a bigger battery. Make them FWD for better efficiency, (maybe add an AWD option for the EV) make them well equipped, take out any performancey stuff like the LSD, soften up the suspension and focus on a simple and smooth ride, and BOOM! Two even lesser priced trim levels that are easier on the wallet, retains the Hornet/Tonale look, and is more efficient.

    • @mrgurulittle7000
      @mrgurulittle7000 2 месяца назад +1

      I wanna add to what you said because it’s actually a better strategy for Dodge. How about Dodge forget going “all muscle” because they already ruined that reputation with their electric muscle cars and the Hornet, and instead Dodge make a full car lineup again to compete in the mass market brand segment again? We don’t need a “muscle” 40k Alfa based CUV. We want cheap good minivans, sedans, CUVs, SUVs, and then muscle cars from Dodge. Dodge really lost their identity and are offering irrelevant models. They should aim mass market and QUIT giving us final editions of every darn model we loved.

    • @jonathancolbert6666
      @jonathancolbert6666 2 месяца назад +1

      Yup! Bring back cars like the Journey, the Town and Country, the Dart, the Caliber, the Neon, etc. Keep the Hornet if you want. They got too caught up in the muscle narrative. Meanwhile Ford and GM have plenty of choices for the masses that are affordable, and selling like hotcakes. A prime example would be GMs new 2024 Chevy Trax. Well equipped examples don’t even get past 25k-30k, and almost everyday I see one. Is it powerful? NO! Turbo 3 cylinder with less than 150hp. But like Marspeed said, the majority in this segment don’t care about its performance. What matters to them is, is it inexpensive, is it utilitarian, is it reliable, and how good is it on gas. There is still a place for muscle cars, (plenty of the new S650 mustangs running around), but 100% of Dodge's lineup, shouldn't have been muscle. It worked for a while but during those years of profit, they should have been working on and introducing more mass market cars.

      @@jonathancolbert6666Agree. The Hornet should be cheaper and we want more cars from Dodge that are mass market.

    • @MarspeedCars
      @MarspeedCars  2 месяца назад +1

      Interesting! Yeah BMW X2 fills a hole that wasn’t there to begin with lol. I love your ideas, and that would definitely make sense. My thought was this was the perfect chance to revive Chrysler. Make this Hornet a Chrysler of some sort, different naming of course, and get the brand going. That way it doesn’t have to be performance focused and could actually succeed in the segment rather than the Hornet. Make it look like a Mazda CX-5 with Chrysler body styling.
      Now that Dodge no longer has the Journey and Grand Caravan, they got too tied up in performance, sticking to Durango Charger Challenger, and doing the same with the Hornet (seriously what CUV buyer cares about having a Powershot feature for example?? And the other performance focused features you mentioned). This resulted in a weird product from Dodge like I said, where they felt like they had to continue the performance stuff but shot themselves in the foot.
      None of that pressure if they just made it a Chrysler, and might have got people back on board with the brand. Chrysler is also more aligned with Alfa Romeo in my opinion, and this is just a Tonale after all. I believe the reason they didn’t is because Stellantis wants Chrysler to be an all-electric brand soon. Either way it’s a total screw up. I don’t work in any Stellantis offices but I talk about the brands enough on this channel to know this wasn’t going to be a good idea, how did they not see this? If it does last more than a few years I’ll be shocked.
