There’s nothing worse than being terrified to confide something to a parent especially - - and then have them outright say they don’t believe you, or that you’re “making it up.“ It’s absolutely horrific when parents act like this.

I've never been able to understand this! And it happens more than people realize. The only explanation that I can understand is that denial is a very powerful thing. They (the mother in this case) just can't cope and doesn't know how to escape the psycho, so they just deny the allegations made by her own daughter. So tragic. I like to think today things are different. She could probably go to a school counselor and they'd immediately take action.

Literally everyone in her life who encountered any of them during that time is responsible for not getting her out. Too many people knew what my father was doing and he was left to brutalize us for 7 years because of the conservative Christian culture of "give it to God," until attention about it was forced because he impregnated his 12-year-old stepdaughter. Everyone in our lives failed us by never contacting the authorities, and the authorities failed us every time they released my father on good behavior after his 12 DUI's and giving him custody of his daughters every summer.

Rule #1 in a abusive relationship:
YOU NEVER TELL ABUSER YOUR LEAVING!!!! ABUSERS WILL DO AND SAY ANYTHING(gaslighting) TO KEEP YOU FROM LEAVING.
Rule #2) NEVER TELL ABUSERS WHERE YOU ARE AFTER LEAVING.
Many women have to use womens abuse shelter resources to leave their abuser because they have laws, rules, and resources to make sure abuser cannot get to victims. They even have abuse victim safe houses/apartments for women with children. They have counseling services for the victims to keep victims from going back to abuser. Years of gaslighting causes victims to believe the gaslighting lies. It usually takes victims 3xs of leaving to stay away from abuser for good.
It took me 4xs. I grabbed my 2 kids(abuser is the father) and we left with only the clothes on our backs, diaper bag, kids blankies, and shoes on our feet. It’s been 13 years and my kids haven’t seen their father in 13 years.
I’ve seen and read more then a few comments:

The mother was more than likely abused to the point where she was made to believe she couldn't survive without this man. DV cases are very complicated because it is hard to break the cycle. Once someone believes they can't live without their abuser or that they are nothing without their abuser, its very unlikely they will leave, even when their children are at risk. Her mother wasn't in a healthy state of mind so thats why she didn't receive or acknowledge the news of her daughter's abuse.
I do feel bad for the mother because I've been in a DV situation and it is very very hard to break the cycle without the proper support. I'm sure in the beginning of the relationship there were red flags but she ignored them. It's unfortunate that she, and her daughter, had to pay for her over looking those red flags.

It's her job to protect her daughter at all costs. Also they had a chance to quietly get away and Rebecca, for some reason that defies all logic, TOLD HIM they were going to leave. That moronic decision is what ultimately sealed her own fate and got her daughter assaulted / tortured yet again and almost murdered. There's no excuse.

Wow...47 years of giving up myself to protect my daughter...and she still treats me like crap at times....Jennifer! Something is very wrong that you are idolizing and overlooking what she did. Seek more counseling or different counselor. You may be trying to be "nice" to feel loved. That could repeat over and over on a daily basis. You do not have to be nice and give uo yourself to receive love....Giving of yourself to protect your own child is to love your kids.

I have a wonderful father. From a very young age he have always told me to tell him if anything or anybody going wrong with me
I remember going to a institution where there were only male teachers he would drop me everyday there and always made sure that i was never alone. At the end of the day he would always ask me if everything was alright, if I felt uncomfortable and everything. I wish every father is like this

I am glad for Jennifer, being able to do well after going through that. It is not easy at all going through that and not being consumed by it. I have came soo close several times to being consumed by the things that I have happened when I was a kid.. Its not easy by any means.

I can and never will understand a woman staying with a man thats abusing their children. Especially if ur own child is telling u these horrible things how can u not believe them? I'd rather my children safe than hurt. At the very least investigate into it to see if it's true. I do understand some kids lid for attention but as a parent u have to do any and everything to protect them. It's a shame 😔
