Hey design champs! There is a run-down shed on my property that I am going to renovate into a tiny house over the next thirty days (hopefully). I'm going to put it on airbnb and see if we can get some guests! If you want to follow along with me on the journey i'm going to make a video about it everyday for the next 30 days! Today I got almost all of the roof sheathing on the roof and all the fascia done!

white roofs lower internal temperature by as much as 6-10 degree celsius, so if you want to save on electricity bill with your AC and make it more comfortable...
I definitely go with a lighter color, just from a heat perspective if nothing else. Love the series!!
nice name
Dark exterior will probably be warmer and dark interior will probably look smaller. It depends on what you're looking for
Dark warmer in summer, cooler in winter. Looks cool but not great for heat
@@jeroenlurling2970 in which way would dark get cooler in winter? Sounds weird
@@jeroenlurling2970 dude, makes no sense that a dark color would get colder in winter! Please explain how
It's really exciting and entertaining to see everything shaping up. This is also a HUGE lesson about inner motivation vs. external accountability, just quoting a line you put in quickly in a video, that was really remarkable to me.
Definitely a light color! but you could add some black accents to the windows and door frames to make it look more modern :)
The dramatic music when you were pushing the wood sheet up was so funny to me for some reason
PS: Loved the baby triangles, unfortunately you can't find that species over here :P
I think it would be ~cooler~ if you paint it white, since you mentioned in an episode about the high temperatures your region can hit.
The classical music as you push the board hits so hard 😢❤️
YOU ARE MY MOTIVATION!!! THANK YOU!!! 😉👍
White/light exterior but with black trim windows would look great Zim
Definitely black framed windows even if the house is white. Always looks so good and modern.
Slapping the like before watching, as always!! Slapping hard, but not too hard, to make sure the roof stays in place. Stay awesome tennis ball enjoyers!
I don't think this is mentioned enough: you always pick the right music for your videos. They really fit the vibe. Great tast, keep it up :)
And yeah, as most of the others already commented, I would also go for a white/light color.
The best music!!!!
Black! It's well shaded under the trees.
Nice grey with dark accents like the door, window frames, maybe planters too
I guess one option would have been to screw nails into the wood as stops (instead of the triangles) so you can rest the board on the screws as you push it upwards.
Love the dark concept, but wonder about heat! You can still do black window frames with a white vertical siding, so it looks like modern scandi!
For TeXXas hot weather, I would go with a lighter color. But black window frames can still work with that !
I think white/light exteriors look more cheerful and clean, but black trim would be classy!
Black and it will become an oven :D you will need 1 meter isolation or an eskimo grade AC. You can also go for a nice low saturated pastel color.
YOU CAN DO IT. NO QUESTION.
Black in texas would be hell plus more heat means paying more electric bills to keep it cool in the summer.
Dark and modern for sure!!
Insane you doing all this by yourself youre a machine
Was going to say dark and modern, after reading the comments I agree, white and energy saver!
You should sell baby triangles!
Sheesh! Those are some nice triangles. You might be the most incredible triangle herder in all the land! Also dark walls with dark window frames will be pretty cool. ⚫⚪ (👈 Your cool houses represented by emoji)
Zim! Don't go black on the externals. Materials will deteriorate quicker in the sun as well as the increased temps everyone is talking about. Hope you can find some 3 week old worms for your blocks!
Zimri you are doing great 👍
I would go for a light cool color, that grabs attention and airbnbs can just remind it as the blue house or something. o/
Keep the colors bright to stay cooler (lower cooling costs) and larger feeling. Happier feeling, too!
damn, 95% ?? that's like if you had 100 roofs to finish and only finished 95 of them 😩🤪
Not sure if anyone suggested staggering the vertical plywood seams on the roof. It’s probably not the end of the world, but making a very uniform seam like you have can cause some weird sagging along the seams over time.
I say mint/turquise...black is gonna be hot, and it has to be very minimalistic and neatly build to look cool..maybe next time
Dark would mean higher costs in cooling, especially with the Texas heat. It would make sense if a whole wall opened up to balance the darkness with light and air. I'd say one dark/patterned accent wall and keep the rest white. (LOVE your enthusiasm btw.)
We just had our house painted dark blue (and LOVE it), so black actually would be pretty cool.
Amazing progress, Zimri! Personally, I would go with matching the house. 👍
black exterior seems cool for sure, but the heat... I'm not sure anyone would be able to enjoy the heat it absorb 🔥 how about black&gold interior? it'll give ghe fancy-modern looks too!
Do the dark! There was a rendering on discord that looked amazing!
Ooh, how about light orange? doesnt absorb too much heat, but looks unique!
Dark and modern or maybe Tennis Ball Yellow!
Black might get a bit hot in that Texas sun
Always bringing that TBIL energy
QUESTION (not criticism): would it have been better to block the roof rafters before nailing the roof sheathing so the rafters are all parallel and evenly spaced?
Yeah for sure, blocking is nice, just takes more time and wood and running electrical and insulation later gets a tad bit more annoying but in general, it's good practice : )
Make it light! You want it to look bigger 🐶
Zimri I think you need to increase the amount of sunblock you are using xD safety first, BTW love this series having so much fun thnx for the excelent content.
Zim did you cut into the boards so you could nail them on the inside? Would nailing them on the sides of the boards not worked? Very well engineered regardless! You're doing great dude
White house.... dark colors attract heat... I live in a place with same temperatures than Texas... we know this works for clothing and walls.... ;)
White, with dark framed windows.
Just because you're in Texas, I'd go with white unless you're okay with higher AC costs.
Yeah, go dark with the exterior colour. Also music is always 10/10. Keep going love the videos.
With that heat I'd go with white
Zimri have you considered solar panels on the roof to absorb all that Texas heat?
ZIMRI ZIMRI ZIMRIIIII!!!!!!
Fresh cut 👀
Texas heat? Go white
Commenting for the algorithm
Where is your table saw fence?????
May I ask what song that city pop retro song is?
Whatever happened to the poll feature on RUclips? If there was a poll, I think you Roofed it and didn't Doof it!
Great video shot, Instagram is looking forward to your reply, thank you!
Paint it ORANGEEEEE
Grey.
Funniest guy on RUclips.
So I was wondering, the camera is shaking a bit. Is somebody watching you all the time getting this stuff done all on your own?
I assume it the wind blowing the tripod around
omg, no staggering of the panels or "H" clips.
We're living dangerously out here renovate
@@zimrimayfield i get that my man, but i'm just worried about the integrity of your structure over the long term. not tryin to give you hell or anything. i write specs for this type of stuff, so it worries me when i see it. i don't know how different the codes are down there, so where i'm at might be over kill. keep doin what you're doin though, its great content.
I hate to be your dad here, but please wear eye protection when using the saw! ❤️
Go white!
white :)
The landscape around you is scorched earth assumingly from surplus of sun heat and light, black or dark exterior is a horrible idea.
ok, but Hot Pink or Baby Blue
The way you cut those baby triangles on the table saw was super sketchy. Be careful, man.
Light color. Doesn't have to be white. Doesn't have to match the house. It should be its own statement.
I tried so hard not to be the "I know you're already done but you shoulda" guy, but I didn't try hard enough, 'cause that roof sheathing should be staggered. Aligned seams aren't as sturdy against racking forces when it's windy. Texas is windy. Don't wanna turn your cottAZH into a paro"what the?"lellogram.
Make the shed white you goofball
White and match the big house...dont draw attention to your property from neighbors or people driving by...
Interior/ exterior design professional here,
I would suggest Sherwin Williams 7674 Peppercorn for the main body and window/ door trim if you have any. SW 6258 Tricorn Black for the fascia boards and entry door(s).

Peppercorn is more of a gray black, you'll still get that modern feel without it being too dark. Then go with the darker tricorn on the fascia and doors to compliment your windows. This combo would look stunning and make the Airbnb feel like its own separate space while still complementing your white main home. (Not sure what colors you used for the main home).
I get everyone pointing out that darker colors will absorb heat. This is from a purely aesthetic perspective, I design homes in the PNW so this kind've extreme heat is not a concern or something I've had to work with up here.
R00F CHAMPI0NZ
Also, I just went through a parade of homes last weekend and saw several multi-million dollar homes with black windows installed in white houses. It actually looks pretty good, especially with black hardware and faucets everywhere, so whether you go light or dark you could definitely go black windows.
I like that idea too!
Zimri, i absolutely love your work! i know you don't have much time now, but it would be awesome to see the more design and planning work behind this, graphically speaking
Bro, you gotta use a push stick and a riving knife of that tablesaw. I want to see more videos in the future is why.
Uuuuh boy, the way you use your table saw gives me nightmares. Stay safe.
95% OF ALL THE ROOF
I think white or something lighter and then some black details like windows and doors, looks very fancy to me
Black is a bit black (and of course the heat as everybody points out), but what about a 'real' color (like baby blue)? Oh, and you can get a cross-cut-sled and fence for your tablesaw to greatly improve the chance of having 10 fingers at the end of the 30 days. Tablesaws really don't like 'free cuts' and it can grab and slingshot anything at supersonic speeds through everything.
A sled is a great idea and he could make one himself to save money. Just needs some scrap wood and nails, which i'm sure he has plenty of. There are a ton of tutorials for how to make one here on YT
Love the cooling aspect of color choice. But what if it could be a special (light) color? And it would be the inspiration for naming and branding the Airbnb ;) Like "The Yellow Shed" or whatever. Or white with cool mural paintings that could make it stand out!

OSHA will be contacting you shortly 😂
Everything white with dark windows and door 🤌🏻
ouhhhh stealth mode modern for the house??!?! lets goooo.
Whether dark or light u should be flexing design muscles on the little one. Tiny has to be cool
100% flex hard
OMG...Someone teach Zimri how to use table saw before he gets the nick-name "lefty"
Don't go for dark, it will be so hot the House With A Pool will become a pool, a pool of sweat.
Please start a merch store selling baby triangles 😂
With googly eyes attached 😁
Personally I love a dark color because of dirt but I think for Airbnb white as it is the standard but sometimes it’s better not to be the standard.
I don't know if it is feasible, but since you have an hoverhang I would go with a dark exterior (so when the sun is low on winter you get more heat, and the hoverhang allow to block the sun on the facade on summer), but you would need to have a white roof or something really light so when it's summer it is cooler inside)
Good morning comments friends! Have the best day ever 🥰
In my country is night
@@onlyviralvideos4168 Good evening! Have a really lovely night! 🙈
@@damnyew thanks
Boy you need to grow back those beautiful locks you have lol or stop going to Supercuts for your haircut loooool.
I slice and dice it myself : P Almost impossible to see anything except the front : D THank youuuuuuuuuu < 3
Then I’m impressed 😝😏 we love a diy haircut 💇♂️ 💋
I thought you were going to put the van closer, to carry the boards from nearer... (but maybe there's no place to park the van closer). Anyway, the roof ended great :)
If aesthetics is prioritized I'd go with some dark exterior, love dark houses. And it's a small space, so you wont need a high capacity AC
I'd maybe go for a mor kind of off white color, I feel like white white is overused and and off white could maybe get that cozy feeling while staying modern
In Texas, I'm not sure a Black exterior is a good idea. I think, in order to save on energy, a white exterior would be best (with black trim).
Go with white or light soft green and dark Windows. To blend in with the trees. And some wood colored accents. Not sure if it is possible in texas because of the lack of Rain. But a green roof (like real plants, stone plants) makes the inside temperature a few degrees cooler. And it loods nice too
I've never seen a black house except in a horror movie. I think there's a reason for that, but I'll let you decide. lol. Good work on the house so far.
