    What a great video :)
    As a Korean teacher, one of the biggest problem of Language school is that it is very hard to customize classes for each students. There are usually 8-12 students in one class and each student has different needs, goals and interest. So, as you said in the video, in a lower level (1-2), it could be helpful because you can study basic Korean with a general and universal method which is for all students. But as time goes on, students feel frustrated or dissatisfied by general and universal methods.

      You're totally right and I was so thankful to have found you and the Korean teaching club at Dongguk :D
      If visa is not an issue, I'd recommend anyone to just follow lvl1-2, then to only buy the books and get private lessons from Hola Korean, the learning experience will be way better and much more efficient. So please continue what you're doing, we Korean learners need you!

    I just found your video cause I decided to change my University which is now Sogang. I agree to you 100% The funny thing about Sogang is they promote themself with speaking etc. but honestly its not. It depends so much on the teacher and they don't even let you know the midterm grades for the oral exam. The teachers have no structure and everyone teaches how they want. Many students have complained there...and Sogang is even more expensive than SKY. Even we have 2h of "speaking" at Sogang, we just repeat the dialogues in the book, there is no freestyle and if we do freestyle at the writing part (there is a dialogue writing exam as well), it will be marked as wrong cause everything has to match the book. Sure you here foreigners are talking in korean to each other but you hear that at ewha etc. as well. So like you said, the courses are made to be able to study in korean not speak. I decided to change universities cause sogang doesn't do something different in the end...

      @@TheLonerStorm So I decided to stay at Sogang till level 4 cause after I talked to Yonsei Korean language trainee students, I realised Sogang is really way better. They Yonsei students who are in a higher level than me can't even talk korean....and they told me, that they really focuse more on grammar and not on talking. They said sometimes they dont talk at all even in the speaking class. And btw Sogang is way more relaxed. I will transfer to Ewha for level 5-7 but thats because I want to take the Topik and enter a Master Programm and Ewha is a good mix of Sogang and Yonsei. If I compare how languages are taught in Korea with how language are taught in Europe, than yeah I would stick to my previous comment and say, its a lot of book studying but you need to compare the single institutions here. and trust me its totally bullshit to go to a sky university for just korean cause sky is just important for a degree not which language u are studying as a trainee. So if you just wanna study grammar and need to reach a high topik level fast, then go to yonsei. If you wanna be more confident in speaking and thats your main goal then from all other institutions, Sogang is really the best. One of my friend who just is about to finish level one and came with 0 korean can already speak some basics and can even order comfortably at restaurants. But yeah sure you need to make an effort outside of class too to speak korean. If you wanna have a mix of everything, then choose Ewha, but in the end it really depends on what u wanna focus at and what ur end goal is. But, both Ewha and Yonsei have way more Vocabulary to study than Sogang and way more Grammar. For me, level 1-2 at Sogang might have been a bit disappointing just cause I had already a certain level in Korean and didnt take the placement test. Hope this gonna help you

      @@TheLonerStorm oh then definitely go for Sogang! If you know the basics then u can easily skip Level 1, if you pass of course. Get a look at the Sogang level 1 books :) especially the vocabulary, cause sogang is using more daily vocabs. And since ur goal is speaking, take the morning classes KGP200. Cause the afternoon classes are for academic purpose. Hope u gonna have fun :)

      @@Eommalalalala Honestly it depends on yourself. I know people they haven't visited languages courses in Korea and got topik 4. For topik you need to study a lot of grammar and the vocabulary which is used for the exam. No talking needed. Beside the general vocabulary, topik has kind of their own vocabulary list . I would recommend you to get a topik book to study . cause the topik exam has also its own way how to answer questions you gonna need to practice a lot. you can get all informations online

    Hi! Just came across your video, and thank you for your input! I learned 5 levels of korean in university in my country (i was from the asian studies department) and I'm so disappointed to see apparently the approach is exactly the same i had in uni. I know a lot of grammar, i can read well and translate things quite well too, but i just can't speak at.all. and it's ridiculous and so frustrating because that's my main goal with the language. I wanted to go to Korea next year and i thought by doing one language program more focused on speaking I'd feel more confident but honestly now I'm not sure what to do. There's also the problem with the visa bcs my university doesn't have an agreement with any korean uni...so yeah. Not really sure what to do now

      Hi there! Don't feel too bummed, I think the best thing you can do to practice speaking is actually being in Korea! Being forced to speak in Korean to do your groceries, to open a bank account, to travel, making Korean friends... you'll make tremendous progress in no time. So what's left is to figure out the visa part ; working holiday or language school being the best choices. At the language school you might study things you already know and feel frustrated by the pedagogy, but I believe there's always new things to learn so maybe don't close that door just yet :)

    • @seoul_muks

      honestly, just go to korea by yourself and practice speaking by interacting with koreans as much as possible. at a language school, you will learn grammar you already know but it won't help you. at dongguk, they focus on speaking BUT if you can't speak well you will be put in level 1 which means learning hangeul. it is so frustrating.

    I also want to do it mainly to stay there, and because I'm going crazy now that this COVID situation is seemingly never-ending. I need purpose, and I can link this program to my career so it wouldn't be a great advantage, but it would still be useful.

    Thanks for the video, so helpful :) Do you think these programs (Sosang, Ewha etc) would the best option also for someone who already has a visa? I'm looking for intensives and most reviews seem to point to them, however I cant help but wonder if some of the hype is due to the fact that they offer a relatively easy way to get a visa? Or are they just a solid option all round? Maybe there's others I'm overlooking?

    • @bisoubisoutv
      @bisoubisoutv  3 года назад +1

      Hi, thank you for watching!
      It depends on the visa you're on. For instance, the spouse visa or Korean adoptee visa might give you access to more affordable Korean language classes. However, to my knowledge there is no intensive programmes similar to those, because the other options are tailored for people who have another occupation (like a full-time job). If you want to make learning Korean your full time focus (at least for a semester) I don't think you would have better options. I studied the lvl2 in Dongguk while on a working holiday visa and I would recommend it!

    Then which university do you recommend the most? I was thinking in going to Sogang because the majority of people says that is the best option for people who wants to improve their speaking skills but now i am confuse with what u said about your friends experience in Sogang... I have many korean friends and a korean boyfriend so for me practising with native people wont be a big problem but i am still confuse, I dont know what to do, getting crazy with too many universities.... I hope you answer me
    p.s- your eyes are so pretty

    • @bisoubisoutv
      @bisoubisoutv  3 года назад +7

      First of all, thank you for the compliment ❤️ I didn't mean to bring confusion with this video!
      If you have a Korean boyfriend and other native speakers with whom you can practice speaking, then I think any language school will do (at least, any of the 3 I'm mentioning). But if you're a westerner, I think it will be easier to make friends in Sogang, as it's pretty popular for western students.
      My point I guess, is that every (famous) university has a solid curriculum that will help you get better fast, so there's no big difference between them all and you should just choose the location and campus you like the most!

      You were so fast replying, I am so thankful 🥰 Well, I am moving with a friend, so I won’t feel lonely too and I think I can make friends easier... I am a talkative person for sure. Do you know something about Hanyang or Kyung Hee university? I already excluded Yonsei and Seoul University bc it looked too much stressful and not practical at all. But yes that’s true , all of the programs are so similar ... I saw a girl that studied in Yonsei saying that Level 3/4 in Sogang its basically a level 2 in Yonsei and I got confused with that... how is that possible ...

      @saralima2096 3 года назад

      Btw I am not a good English speaker and u can notice so I hope you understand what I meant. I am so sorry ... I am trying my best. I will apply for 3 semesters and I think I can go straight to level 2. But as u said, they are all pretty similar... I don’t know why but my mind is saying that I should choose Sogang or Hanyang ... I will wait for your answer about my last comment

    • @bisoubisoutv
      @bisoubisoutv  3 года назад +2

      @@saralima2096 Your English is great!
      I think the reason is that Yonsei University focuses on making sure you can attend a university curriculum fully in Korean, which includes understanding complex Korean literature. So they will deliver all the grammar points in lvl 1~3 and dedicate lvl4~6 to lots of writing and reading. Sogang knows that their students chose Sogang for the speaking part, and therefore might deliver grammar points more slowly. You will have tons of conversation tables and less intense grammar/writing.
      As I said in the video, I personally don't find it very useful to have a focus on speaking with other Korean learners, and I would prefer to focus on writing in Korean better so I don't think I would like Sogang. But I never attended Sogang so if you're still unsure, try to reach out to a Sogang alumni!
      About Hanyang, I think the Korean language institute is on the Erica campus, which is located quite far and disconnected from the main campus, so I don't know if it's the best choice.
      Kyunghee has a pretty good reputation and will probably be similar to Ewha!

    I would like to ask you some questions about it. You said that in level 1 or 2 you have a lot of free time so is not difficult to follow the classes and then have some afternoons free? Because I listened that this kind of courses are very hard and I'm not good in languages.

    Thank you again!

    • @bisoubisoutv
      @bisoubisoutv  3 года назад

      Thank you for watching, glad it helped! I'll try to answer all your questions :
      1) Compared to lvl3-4, lvl1-2 is easier. Because you *just* have to do simple homework everyday, re-read what you studied in class and memorize ~5-10 new words per day. But if you are a total beginner it doesn't mean it'll be easy! I just mean that the difficulty and amount of work needed raises gradually.
      2) I haven't done lvl1-2 at Ewha nor Sogang so I don't have recommendations, as I explained I think all programs are similar. Don't worry too much!
      3) Yes the whole concept is Korean immersion so the class is given fully in Korean. However, lvl1-2 textbooks have explanations in English (there's also Chinese, Japanese and Vietnamese versions usually) so you can always rely on them when anything is not clear.
      I wish you all the fun for your Korean language journey!
