So much wisdom here. I’m almost 52 and it’s such a journey to show up for oneself at this age - I have more confidence in myself than ever, but my body is doing some crazy things and society has some pretty strong opinions about how women “of a certain age” need to look and dress. Add on a pandemic, and it all seems a little overwhelming and discouraging. These tips are like an open window and it’s a huge comfort to know that you’re on just as much of a journey as the rest of us. ❤🙏🏼
I really adore your current style journey, as it looks more relaxed and experimental, which makes you seem fun and young! You're always more than good enough 🥰 After two years of mindless purchase in the name of style experimentation, I personally am trying to pin down the core of my style. So far it's just me trying to rehash some of the old outfits that I used to wear in uni -- but with trendier or higher quality pieces.
I'm 62 and still trying to pin it down. haha! I just tell myself it's a fluid thing and expect some ongoing fluctuations. But in the big picture, I try to learn from the clothes I didn't keep so I hopefully don't keep making the same mistake.
You have never made styling mistakes. You have looked gorgeous in every video I’ve seen. You’re definitely overthinking. Just follow your instincts. They’re spot-on.
I love that moss green cardigan with gold buttons you’re wearing. So chic and the color is just lush! And your new leather jackets are lovely as well. My favorite thing to do is wear oversized vintage silk blouses and cardigans in interesting colors or patterns. Life’s too short to have boring clothes.
I always think “2 out of 3” when it comes to hair, makeup & outfit. 2 should be on point, one should be more relaxed / undone / natural. I feel TOO done up with all 3, but 2 out of 3 makes me feel pulled together but not fussy.
My style mistake was a BIG one. From ages 19-25 or so, I just simply gave up. I had gained a good bit of weight, and I wasn't used to having clothes not drape on me the way they once did. I embodied that "what's the point?" mindset that you had mentioned. The pandemic arrived around the time I was 23-24, which didn't help. But now that I'm 26, I find myself longing for the self-expression that fashion grants me! Thank you for your videos - they really do help spark that creative light within me :)
I can relate as I’m coming out of my own battle with wardrobe perfectionism. Like many people, I got super far down the kibbie and color season rabbit hole over the last couple of years. I tried to make every outfit perfect for both my lines and color, but it was just too complicated and causing me daily stress. It was too much pressure to put on myself. So I decided I needed to prioritize one theory over the other and I chose color since when I walk in a room my dramatic coloring is the first thing people notice. So the color of my clothes is my main concern and the lines of my clothes I’m a lot less strict about. This has taken a lot of pressure off of me and I’ve honestly felt a lot more confident in my clothes lately.
I feel the same about the pressure, and the opposite in how my system reacted to it: I'm pretty much concentrating on the silhouette and pushing the colour theory to the curb. As a person with high-ish contrast but still ultimately a summer, I'm really exhausted by the effort of avoiding black, and forcing myself into a harmonious look. I guess I need some disharmony to give me an edge))
I believe that when we are dressing up the most important thing is to listen to our intuition, our desire, we need to dress up to make ourselves happy and excited like when we were kids dressing up! that way we are expercing our personality, telling a story about ourselves and that's the beauty of it, we are all unique and we need to trust our instincts & have fun with it rather than trying to fit into a box!
Brittany, your comment is really interesting. You could say I am the opposite. I actually have put up "rules" for myself regarding shopping for new pieces...none of these colors because they don't go with my skintone/closet, none of this or that type of material that is scratchy, no gold hardware (I only wear silver jewelry and I don't personally mix metals), etc. This has helped me go through a store quicker and know whether a piece is going to stand the test of time. Although I suppose you would say the exact same thing about your approach!
I’m in a weird purgatory phase with my styling, where I’m still experimenting with some silhouettes/fabrics/styles, but my list of things I love has gotten longer and more specific. So I still like using ‘style rules’ as a guideline. Kibbe and color seasons has been really helpful for building a framework for the items I’m experimenting with; but when it comes to stuff I know look good on me, I don’t stick to those rules too much and go with intuition. If I feel good in it, it’s a keeper regardless of rules 😊
Yes, I feel totally identified with " thinking I am not cool enough for certain clothes" or that " certain clothes are noy an option for me". I used to have these believes and I felt like there weren't many options to get dressed for me as a petite. Luckily I got over it in time and thanks to YOU and your advice as well as other Fashion youtubers I was able to start trying ways of dressing wich are suitable and flattering for me. Audrey, you are much more better now than in the past😍😍😍. Keep up with your amazing videos!!! They are inspiring!!! Love from Argentina💗
Wow! Those are exactly some of the troubles I'm going through my style journey as well! And the most mind blowing: I was not noticing the limitations I am imposing myself! I'll keep an eye on these! Thank you, Audrey!!
I'm so glad to hear you're breaking free from restricting yourself with your personal style!! Whenever I see you wear something edgier or a little outside what would be considered classic, it's such a cool surprise and always think it looks great on you! I hope you continue to explore all the possibilities of what could make you happy within your style.💖
I love this approach to this question. I was expecting the usual "only buy high waisted, or stick to a color palette." But this was much deeper and seemed a lot more about personal growth, confidence, giving yourself a break and permission to be yourself. Kudos for your insights, very thought provoking for me!
You are so sophisticated. You have been inspiring me. I'm looking forward to your videos. I like how your beautiful voice also goes with your style. It's such a soothing, singing voice. Thank you for being vulnerable and sharing your own mistakes. I like the idea of repeating a pattern with jewelry.
Thank you Audrey , for sharing your progress! I know we as women are placed on a style journey the moment we are born. Classics with a twist are always essentials for me. This topic is a bevy of opportunities for us to laugh at ourselves and move on with an open mind. Have a fun week!👍❤️👍
I love all of your videos! I love all of your advice and I find you so interesting just on your thoughts on fashion and style alone. I would love to see and hear your thoughts on other topics! Books, home style and any motivational ideas you have! I just adore you!
Yes I am following less "rules" so I look more modern and less "stiff" in my clothing. I am trying to mix and match more : more expensive items with less expensive and especially casual and dressy pieces which I absolutely love to do! I am also trying this approach on more formal occasions as I hate complete dressy outfits with the fancy dress, the high heels shoes, evening bag etc...
I like seeing the more edgy side to you. The leather, chunkier shoes/boots, very cool ❤️ It’s inspired me to take the plunge and maybe buy some Dr Martin boots 🤞
I've been following your journey for several years while working on my own and I LOVE seeing how yours has evolved. It's developed from classic and preppy to much more edgy and individual and I love seeing your personality shine through!
I'm working on not letting the fact that my stomach, while slim figured, isn't toned and not wanting to wear some of my tighter fitting tops/bottoms because it "accentuates" my squishiness. Also, LOVE that chocolate leather jacket with the interesting hemline 😍
I try to not let myself get too refined with my outfits and hair, otherwise at my age of 62, I start to look older and predictable. So, I keep it a bit edgy and casual. I always have to remind myself this when I go shopping which makes the hunt a bit more of a challenge.
Great tips. I have recently purchased several items that are not my true size. I found that they suited my style better and made me feel comfortable and excited to wear them. Thanks for your inspiration.
Thank you so much for showing us this style and giving some tips, i am 74 and in good shape, but don't like to wear little t-shirts like 17 (understandable why) and the style you showed us, is great for anytime
Greatly enjoy going on this journey with you. Genuine, humble, helpful, and evolving are some of the attributes that keep your audience engaged. You carry yourself so gracefully which is also so refreshing. On a side note, you have a beautifully relaxing voice. A definite unintentional ASMR.
i am glad you are relaxing, my dear. as you age, you will relax even more. while i love all your looks, i love this newer more slouchy "you". your style will keep changing as you age. in my 60's i can not wear clothes the way i did in my 40's. you will not be wearing what you wore in your 20's. however, there ARE pieces i might have had 20 yrs ago that are classics and that i can simply restyle. love your videos and "rules".
Well said, Sheri. Sometime during my 60s I realized that how I dressed was up to me and not the designers. I'm now almost 80 still love fashion and enjoying it more. 😀
This is one of your BEST videos. Presenting your emotional vulnerabilities really helps all of us block out our own sets of external noise :-). I have been VERY careful (and aware) of any of my own "voices" as I explore different stylists and what draws me in to a specific look. Thank you❣️
We all have to evolve don’t we? That certainly is true of me. I think you always look lovely but I do love seeing you “loosen” up so you can be you. ♥️
Thanks for arranging the Friend of Audrey discount on Monica Vinader. I just ordered the Grey baroque pearl charm. I have a number of her pieces and this will fit in perfectly. Love your channel.
I want you to know that I have been following you for over a year. I have heard a reoccuring theme...how clothes make you feel...from fabric content to color to style even seasons...I, also enjoy a classic style and have created a wardrobe centered around this style...very Ralph Lauren esque... however, every now and then I love to add a Florida twist with color and flowy fabric...when I do this, however, I adorn the look with diamond studs or pearls, a classic jewelry. I think color and fit is important...but the MOST important is how the outfit makes you feel...I know when I get a compliment on an outfit and it is something I have created, it is very satisfying...thank you for your content...it has been a joy to follow.😁
I don’t stick to one theory and one set of rules. My only rule is that I should like myself in that clothing. I should like how it feels and looks and what it says. And I generally follow my own sense of harmony and balance. Sometimes it correlates with some theories, sometimes it doesn’t, and it’s ok.
I was just speaking to my fiancé last night about this, that I’ve always liked hats and wished to wear them during fall, but never felt quite “cool” enough to pull it off. Maybe I should buy one and give it a try. Anyway, what’s the worst that could happen? I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who has felt like this! 💕

Great insights. You must be doing some personal, internal work. It shows, beautifully. Your vulnerability encourages others to acknowledge similar impulses that might be draining our joy in dressing.
I’m absolutely loving that jacket you’re wearing in the last clip. It suits you so well and seems quite different to styles I’ve seen you wear in the past.
I really like how you understand the challenges in developing your personal style. I can definitely relate to things you brought up. Thank you for a very helpful perspective Audrey!

Dearest Audrey you are in my top five I only follow five fashion influencers and you are one of them! I love you big huge- you have helped me in so many ways and we have never met isn't that awesome!
You have a unique perspective since you've been filming your looks for a few years. You can see the progression. It is like a style lab of sorts. Thank you for taking us with you! I love some of the Monica Vinader pieces you highlighted. I do wish some of them came in solid gold. I've had vermeil pieces and once the gold starts to wear off I no longer want to wear them. I've come to realize that even though they are less expensive, ultimately I'm better off buying one solid gold piece than 2 or 3 vermeil pieces that will languish in a drawer once their luster is gone, and vermeil always wears off.
You always looked great. I have admired your style for several years and you always looked wonderful. Then you looked at the different types of style. I remember the videos where you began to change and go in a different direction. It was like a lightbulb that has been turned on and now, as I watch your videos, you have taken everything to heart and have gone for a more gentle feminine direction. I just love how this change has transformed your journey and it helps us to think in a different way about our style. As I am growing older, I have begun to think about what would work for me without looking "old lady". (I'm not an old lady) Something sophisticated and youthful.
It is a pleasure to listen to you talking about your personal style. i am working on self compassion and my style-what I like is just that....and it's my own.
Off topic, but what are your go to retailers for pants? You always wear such lovely pieces! I'm on the hunt for some professional work pants for my new job and can't seem to find the right ones. Thanks!!

Your style and all of your videos are so inspiring to me. I just started to find out what my personal style is. Your dog is cute, too, sneaking into your video. :-) 🐕💜
My struggle has always been that I obsessed with what's coming next in fashion and I neglect the classics. It's how I ended up on your channel haha, I needed help looking trendy, but I didn't want to have to buy a whole new wardrobe every season because my clothes were "so last year". Thanks for all the advice! 😊
I am going to be 40 next year and I've noticed 1) I actually feel sexy now and 2) I do view most clothes as an option for me now. I have noticed this evolution because now my style is less severe in its modesty and I like showing a bit of cleavage. In addition, unless it doesn't look too young for me, I am not afraid of trying on anything! It doesn't matter the size, gender or level of trendiness, as long as it has elements that fit my style, I'll try it. Leaps and bounds from where I used to be even a couple years ago. I wonder if not only age but being home so much due to COVID (and therefore exposing myself to much less noise-if you know you know) has given me license to appreciate my body and be more experimental in fashion as the hobby I always wanted it to be.
A classic style is good, but always play dress up. I love classic style with a twist, wearing a stripes shirt with jeans and Doc Martens, wearing a vintage dress with boots, wearing a more funky blazer with jeans and loafers. I do appreciate your channel

It is a pleasure to listen to you talking about your personal style. i am working on self compassion and my style-what I like is just that....and it's my own.
Stunning!
Off topic, but what are your go to retailers for pants? You always wear such lovely pieces! I'm on the hunt for some professional work pants for my new job and can't seem to find the right ones. Thanks!!
Thank you for the video! Is there links for your outfit? Need some new basics and love that black top
The top is from naked wardrobe! And the jeans are the agolde 90s crop, the jewelry is Monica Vinader and the belt is old from & other stories 🤗❤️
Your style and all of your videos are so inspiring to me. I just started to find out what my personal style is. Your dog is cute, too, sneaking into your video. :-) 🐕💜
The styles have been mistake what be fix them?
Hi Audrey! Could you please link the black boat neck top you're wearing in this video? I love it, it looks so good and classy!
Can you please make a video for shoes to wear with leggings and jeans specially blue jeans over the winter. Thanks 😊
Another great video Audrey. Thank you! Can you share the source of the belt you're wearing in the intro? ❤
Great tips, thank you! Can you share where the coat at 5:30 came from?
Happy Sunday ❤🎉😊
My struggle has always been that I obsessed with what's coming next in fashion and I neglect the classics. It's how I ended up on your channel haha, I needed help looking trendy, but I didn't want to have to buy a whole new wardrobe every season because my clothes were "so last year". Thanks for all the advice! 😊
I do relate to this video, especially the part of there being so many rules!
Your hair has looked fabulous lately.
Audrey your hair looks so cute like that😍
❤️❤️❤️
I can totally relate with the first tip
Did we see a pup? Introduce us!
Lol that’s Maddie! She’s been part of our family for over 6 years ❤️❤️
thanks audrey, great video! Could you also ink your trousers? thx :)
Thank you so much! The black jeans I’m wearing throughout this video are the agolde 90s crop 🤗
I have a severe diastis recti, which makes my stomach huge so I need baggy clothes to cover it which makes me look frumpy!
What is wrong with the pale green jacket? It's One of May favourites of your clothes.
Perfection is so stressful!
You are such a classic lovely lady
Do you find you still look to Kibbe when getting dressed? Or too restrictive?
Enjoy your 40th! Modesty is always best for dressing. Any cleavage showing is so unnecessary and unclassy. Peace to you.
i always wonder how your husband match your outfit too. i think you both look good in styling clothing.
You are so sweet. Love the ponytail!
A classic style is good, but always play dress up. I love classic style with a twist, wearing a stripes shirt with jeans and Doc Martens, wearing a vintage dress with boots, wearing a more funky blazer with jeans and loafers. I do appreciate your channel
