Your tips about fit were really helpful. Would you consider doing some tips on how to determine if your clothes are too big? Especially with a lot of the oversized clothing that is coming out, it's hard to tell sometimes when something is supposed to be a little oversized and when something is just overwhelming your frame.
Yep! We’ve gotten so caught up in aesthetics because we want to have the perfect social media posts that we forget about real life and it’s limitations on what clothes are practical for everyday life.
A really useful tip for shirts is making sure the sleeve seams fall in line with your shoulders. If they fall over your arm or stretch over your collar that shirt isn't a right fit.
I love that you’re wearing black and navy together in this video! I’ve had people tell me they don’t go together, but I think they do! Great video, thanks!
Good tips, Audrey. Thanks for sharing. With a full bust, the last tip is a frequent situation; and I almost always add tape or an extra button to avoid the opening. If I go a couple of sizes up, the rest of me looks huge. The next step: tailoring. :)
As a ND human, who has a lot of sensory issues, I really truly appreciate this. I spend most of my time in loungey clothing, but I will definitely be referring back to this next time I need to wear/purchase “real” clothing. Haha I think it will help so much with sensory issues. Thank you!
Excellent tips - especially the importance of tailoring. Meanwhile, another time would you consider showing signs you're wearing sizes that are too large? After a significant weight loss I"m still struggling with understanding my new shape and frequently get forced by salesladies to try a size or two down. Without their advice I usually just think the garment looks frumpy and don't think to try a smaller size. That can be the difference between a dud and a wow.
Pick 3 sizes, one up and one down from where you think you should be. Then try them on in the dressing room. You should be able to see which one fits best. Sizes are not standardized so you may wear a different size depending on the brand. Of course go for the one that fits best. Keep in mind sometimes you need to tailor, for instance hemming...
I used to get obsessed about size. I got depressed when I couldn’t fit into my ideal sizes. Now I am not so bothered by it. Part of the realization is that sizing is enforced universally. Ideally it should but size difference between labels and brands is quite obvious.
I have garments in sizes ranging from 10 - 22, they all fit me, and the 10 doesn't look much smaller than the 22. Sizes vary so much between manufacturers that there is really no point in getting depressed that the garment which fits you is not 'your' size, because it probably would be if you bought it from another maker!
Pants for me have always been a little bit of a challenge for me since my hip size can sometimes fluctuate depending on my weight... That, plus I'm a bit short in size, so tailoring pants in a way that's comfortable is very important for me as well. Thank you SO much for making this video, Audrey! I feel like some of these tips will help me greatly for future purchases :)
Audrey, please advise me what to do when buying pants. I prefer comfort and when I try on pants, I think they fit perfectly in the fitting room following your advise. Then once I have cut off the tags, and begin wearing the pants, they stretch and feel loose and look baggy. It is frustrating.
Thank you for this video. As a petite woman with a small frame, slim limbs, an an undefined waistline it’s pretty difficult to size for my waist and not have everything look huge. I’d love some in-depth guides to what can be tailored.
I used to buy tops that would not sit right on my shoulders. The seam that meets with the arm at the should would not sit and the right spot and would create a loss of shoulder definition adding to a slightly slouchy look. I’ve learned to add a slight shoulder pad to some softer fabric blazers to define my soft shoulders and also find the right fitting brands for my full bust. 😊 Very helpful reminders on proper fitting clothes thank you Audrey 😊
Thank you for giving a couple seconds of music before you start talking! Previously I’d have to rewind to the beginning to be able to catch the first sentence. Also, this video (like all of your videos) is amazing! So helpful and so applicable to real life! Thank you!
such great advice. thank you. i can never get button up shirts to close, but never thought of just buying a bigger size and then finding a tailor to put darts in the back. genius.
The hug advice is brilliant! I made a mistake of purchasing a beautiful dress with amazing pattern, and I wore it to a friends bday. But when I tried to hug my friends, It felt uncomfortable and restrictive. In the end I had to take this dress to a tailor and make it into a skirt, cause it wasn't possible to change shoulder width. Wish I knew this before, but I learned from my mistake. Thank you, Audrey!
Regarding gapping between buttons: You can add an invisible snap where it gaps. Very simple for a tailor to do, if you don't sew (I'm sewing-impaired). Or, if you can't get to a tailor and need to wear the top, use a discreet safety pin to hold the gap down (make sure you can't see any part of it when you move around.)
@@solangelauthier2381 might be too small in the bust area (without even pulling the material, but simply there could be too few buttons so the body curve makes the gap appear), but still too big in the waistline - that's a story of my life. And going to a tailor is not always an option, so safety pins have served me well for years (you really cant see them if pinned correctly).
I love the trousers you have on when demonstrating how to check your pants fit when bending down ❤ and sadly I realize many of my beautiful jackets no longer fit me.
Love this! Super helpful! What about knowing when pieces are too big or too loose? Do that two finger tip still apply? How can you tell when the piece doesn't fit if the style is supposed to be baggy?
this was very helpful. I will be going for an internship next year and i am going to use these when shopping for work appropriate clothes. Would you ever do a video on professional clothing?
I am always seated...except when I am sleeping..and it changes the way some things fit. Pants look about 2 inches shorter than they would standing. I need inseams to be between 30 and 32 or I look like I am wearing crop pants. A lot of these ankle pants look silly on me. Also I need a high rise because pants ride down in the back. It's easier to wear a dress, fewer fit issues.
It is so important to wear clothes that fit your size otherwise you will feel insecure all day long and it will affect your entire day. You want to wear clothes that empower you and you feel confidence and look your best!
Hi Audrey, this video is so useful, thank you so much! Since I saw the Coco Before Chanel movie, I have been paying particular attention on choosing the right clothes size for me. Nowadays, when I saw someone using very tight clothes or wrong sizes, I kinda feel their pain of wearing very unconfortable clothes. I didn't know the hug and the 2 fingers method, but I will apply them in the future, for sure! Thanks again for sharing! ❤
Now you need to make a part 2 for those -like me- who size up every single piece in order to avoid feeling suffocated or restricted so I end up looking like a pencil wearing a balloon 😀
These are great tips to tell if something is too small. Why not do one on how to tell if something is too big? You can feel just as uncomfortable if your skirt or pants are too big at the waist or hips or if a top is too big in the neck or across the bust. This is especially important because sizing is no longer consistent from brand to brand.
hi! i love your videos and they’ve really helped me a lot. i’m wondering if you can make a capsule wardrobe guide for those who live in tropical countries? most guides i’ve seen (both on YT and pinterest) have long sleeve shirts, sweaters, and coats in them, which can’t be worn in my country as it would be too hot. please, i would really love to hear your advice! thank you! ❤️
I likely have a number of jackets i can't hug in, age n stage and some of my fav coats. Will have to face the music, attached to one in particular as it was my first brand new leather jacket I bought for myself.
Good tips! Great fit of clothing is of utmost importance if you want to look good and "expensive"/ classy. By the way, the two darts lengthwise along your lower back are called fish eye darts. They are meant to eliminate bulging fabric.
How do you buy jeans that will continue to fit correctly? I have bought jeans that feel comfortable at first but then stretch out and slide down constantly. I feel like buying a smaller size would be too uncomfortable though
Check that your skirt doesn't ride up too high and that your tops don't gape too low when you bend over or lean forward. I go through some amazing contortions in the fitting room, trying to make sure that everyday movements in the real world won't give anyone a nice eyeful of my underwear!
Dear Aurdey, Where do you film. The back drop of your videos and the street view looks very much like a lovely villa. You mentioned it is warm sunny and muggy. Also your a goto girl for me as you make so much sense no silly waste of my time and I find that when I am thinking OK what should I get my ready to wear outfit for the next day I hear your lovely voice in my head guiding me along. Thank You for your much needed help. 🎀 Judy.
I had to say goodbye to my most favorite faux leather skirts, because even though they were my regular size, I could only stand in them or walk 😆 Do you wanna go for lunch or see a movie? Nope, my skirt doesn't eat and hates sitting down!!
I'm a numbers person. I hate that different designers and brands have vast differences. I needed this video and retrain my brain for proper fit not the number
What about when one sits down my measurements are small size 6-8 i take the 8 however when i sit down thers a small bit of overhang. Im annoyed im at 7 stone as it is
This was really signs your clothes are TOO TIGHT. When you said "don't fit," I thought you'd also discuss ways to show that clothing is too big. Especially in pants--waistbands, hem length and seat can be too big and ruin the look just as much as too-tight clothing does.
Gosh I’m the queen of buying jeans that look amazing standing but I can’t barely sit in without worrying about the button ripping off 😂 I need to skill up here
The secret is a jean store with staff who know how they should fit and who give great service. I recently found a place that does shortening for free and will do other adjustments for a reasonable amount. They do the tailoring on-site so you can leave the store with a pair that fit perfectly. It’s also important to find a brand that works with your body type.
This is catered more towards those who tend to go for tighter fit. How about those always get bigger sizes and would like to go for a better fit, not a snug fit.
You look lovely but for someone so young you often dress a bit old. Enjoy wearing younger clothes while you are still young, and looking fresh while still remaining chic

I second this!
This is just a huge reminder to me that clothes are meant to be worn, not just for photos on social media, but for life. Fantastic video as usual!
I agree! It’s a great video idea 😊

There are brands that put more buttons on the shirt to prevent gaps. Cavallaro di Napoli for example. Wonderful fit and no gaps!
As a ND human, who has a lot of sensory issues, I really truly appreciate this. I spend most of my time in loungey clothing, but I will definitely be referring back to this next time I need to wear/purchase “real” clothing. Haha I think it will help so much with sensory issues. Thank you!
Thank you for your comment. I also have sensory issues.

She is so soothing 😌 and with a kind smile. Love the information sharing. The way she is sharing it is just so cozy. 👍
Super tips Audrey. I teach my daughter that she should sit down in any trousers she tries on, before buying them.

I hear you! Rectangle body shape here. I’d like to hear more as well!
If it fits me around the waist, the rest is huge. I’m not really fat. I was born with big shoulders and very small hips. Impossible to find pants.
Your voice is just so soothing and comforting. And you are gorgeous. Wonderful tips! 💜💜💜
Can you make a Christmas in Charleston video & maybe some festive outfits?? 🥂💕
That's a fabulous idea!!

thanks! I was trying to purge my wardrobe and your advice helped
This is a really good video. No one ever talks about fit.
such great advice. thank you. i can never get button up shirts to close, but never thought of just buying a bigger size and then finding a tailor to put darts in the back. genius.
Great tips - thanks!! You look very pretty in the blue Paris t-shirt!!

Would love this but for coats, puffers, wool etc

If it gasps it is TOO SMALL !!!
If it gaps it is TOO SMALL ! No fiddling with safety pins (cheap !) and no tailoring. Buy another one.

Audrey, your makeup is 🔥 in this video!!!
I know you don’t typically do beauty tutorials, but I would love one for this look 🤩🤩🤩

Such great tips I’ve finding myself doing this now!

I sew on snaps in between buttons with blouses with too widely spaced apart buttons. No accidentally leaving tape on laundry day.
