Waiting for a Tom Nagy vid but this will do.
Same 👀
Not with that cringeworthy flirting he’s been doing lately 🤮
Embarrassing tom nagy🤮
Nothing against Nagy but............Bundy over Nagy every day of the week. I mean.... Bundy wears a batman hat for a start. Well, that and he is not throwing a bone to his apprentice........... If you know what I mean...... And before anyone goes mad, this is said totally in jest. Maybe. I would like to add something......... KNEE PADS!
@@petertallowin6406 it was a joke. Banter. Humour at the expense of nicks ego.
I have been in the trade for over 41 years,.. mainly Domestic,.. and have rewired more houses than I can recall,.. mostly alone.
This team of two, both very young men are impeccable in their attitude and ability,.. if I could afford them I would definitely employ them..
.. These guys set an extremely high standard., way beyond their years.
Two words:
Shit
Hot.
Tremendous clearing up under the floor boards, drives me mad all the crap I've had left behind in mine. I know most people aren't going to check but there are tradespeople I will never use again just because of not tidying up under my floor boards. I know I sound like a right prat but honestly makes me so happy to see someone actually care.
Years ago in another life, we had a rewire of a historic listed 1700's church house, the apprentice was asked to lift floor boards after chisling out the tongues. Big mistake it happened to be in part of the house with exposed beams downstairs. the bottom of the floorboards had been plastered and painted. Yep wasn't a good day, but not the apprentices fault.
Newly qualified Electrician here love this show. Great guys to watch .
Advice to anyone who buys an older house, get it rewired and any kind of plumbing when the house is empty, it does make it easier for the tradesman and less of a headache for the customer as its customers responsibility to have all of their goods moves so the tradesman dosnt damage anything, plus dust gets everywhere no matter what type of vacume machine we use with our cutting tools.
Lucky for that apprentice to have someone explaining everything so clearly. Good video 👍🏻
Good to see radials being installed, let's get rid of these pointless ring mains forever.
Why? People can't even afford to eat nowadays let alone pay for a house re wire
It's so refreshing to see an apprentice who's actually interested and enjoys their job. Please invest in some knee pads though!
Do you find a lot of apprentices are unenthusiastic? They don't know how lucky they are. I'm starting level 2 as a 'mature student' and I'd do anything to get that kind of work experience.
@@AM-lf2iw I've had 8 of them since I started in the security industry 15 years ago. 1 turned out to be decent (he still works for us) 2 others had the makings of decent engineers but moved on for more money, the other 5 I wouldn't trust to run a bath. There genuinely seems to be a shortage of young people who are interested in learning a trade (even when they're the ones that applied for the job!)
I find a mixture, some are just not interested and expect things to be laid on a plate for them. Others are keen to learn and will do anything for you.
A M yes I was in the same situation what I did was email local sparks and ask your collage apprentice if they have anyone that might be willing to give you some exp and you never know it could lead to more
@@AM-lf2iw I did an apprenticeship but I have seen other guys offer free labour. Some guys will jump at that, you dont want to work for them, but someone will like the enthusiasm and take you on. It's not impossible to get an apprenticeship as a mature student but you will probably have to force your way in a bit. The fact that you are already funding your own college tuition is a plus.
Great video as usual. I know you probably think taking floorboards up and talking about socket positioning is boring, but I enjoy how you plan the work. Those socket holes were so neat! Good to see Adam back and Nick on top form.
i think only sparks never get bored talking about sockets 100 times
First thing I noticed was the old ancient Morrisons and Tesco carrier bags at 1:22
Really interesting video, and love your relationship with your apprentice, strangely wholesome to watch. Thanks!
Oh thank god, Something decent to watch
Yes his hat
Thanks ever so much for the shout out Nick you’re an absolute star.
It’s great to see the mutual respect and the care taken by all the UK sparkys and willingness to learn from each other nice little tips and experience makes a huge difference.
Will, Nick mentions that you prep your boards off-site. Be good to see/hear your insight on that approach.
Paul Cross Hi Paul sorry I’ve been crazy busy this week I will email you tomorrow
Great video - really entertaining. Amazing to see a double-aspect bathroom while today many bathrooms don’t even have a window at all.
Excellent video this is what I like watching and great banter. Good job!!
As a plumber I'm not sure why I'm watching a rewire vid but great job nick, it's nice to see a spark who tidies up after himself, it's a rare phenomenon 🙂. I am disappointed in the plumber for not changing that little bit of lead coming off the metre though 😒. Adam seems a great apprentice and nice work making him wearing ear defenders, I wish I was forced when I was his age, I use them now but only because I have to.

🤣🤣🤣🤣
quality video lads, top notch work, and keeping things neat and tidy !!!
because of covid i can’t do any practical work at college so this is good to watch just to get an idea of what a day as an electrician is like as i’m doing the course
Welcome to the brotherhood 👊
Its generally a bit more graft than this once you get going lol but this is what the first part of a rewire looks like. Checking out what you got and planning it out.
@@benjamincompton9767 thank you :)
@@benjamincompton9767 yeah, i can imagine, i’m only in my first year, but i’ve started building up my tool bag because from what i’ve been told if you buy it all at once it costs a fortune 😂
Occupied rewires are certainly a young persons job, no way am I moving furniture these days.
the mark of a good tradesman looking after the persons house and stuff very professional good work mate
Hard graft I’ve done this so many times lifting floorboards and getting my routes ready to run wires for sockects and lighting at the same time most of the time I do it by myself chasing the walls and setting all the metal back boxes in the wall
That Metabo chaser is on another level! Such a neat job.
Excellent, apprentice turning into the Master. Another great video, keep up the good work.
Best intro ever! Need to see Nick on his knees more often! 😂
Anyone else notice the clock has stopped 😂. Really enjoying the content, keep up the good work guys
Contract sparks... I've just watched 43min of somebody *else* rewiring a house. Proper busman's holiday that was!
Hi Nick. Bit late to this one. It struck me that with a radial it might have been easier to wire the ground floor sockets in a star configuration from a central JB. It would avoid the double drops tight in the conduit and probably even save some cable. Plus less risk of a loose connection in one socket affecting others . Any topology is acceptable on a radial. No need to use ring style configurations.
Got to respect the old school super market carrier bags on the shelf at the start
Nice one Nick , i totally refuse to do occupied rewires any more because of all the hassle that goes with it but if your up for it and the moneys good then good luck to you mate....
There r no more TNS systems in the UK. It could look as TNS at the main income. But more likely supply cable been repaired somewhere before the house and they put piece of TNCS cable ergo the whole system become TNCS. John Ward explained this very well.
I bet that “phone cable” feeds a bell transformer- my parents had a similar thing in their house run off a local socket
36:48 BLOODY HELL now that's a great looking join :(
Glad you found that.
Brilliant watch. Looks like a solid investment a wall chaser
Nice to see nick doing some work 😂
From Iowa. Looks like what i do 99% of the time! Good video
Love this channel and the bit about the Metabo is quality. We're moving to a house not a million miles from Stafford and will be a project. Will have to get you in to quote :)
Brilliant video lads
You can squeeze the oval conduit slightly and tuck it about 5mm into the backbox if you want to run cable through later. Just make sure you're filling the chase yourself so nobody's silly enough to pull it out and leave your box shy of a grommet...
Lovely neat socket holes. Tell us your secrets!
Just done with a renovation of a house... And iam so jealous of your Metabo wall mill. Working with a Milwaukee dubbel blade system... looks like iam picking up extra work with out the Metabo system 😅
Btw iam dutch, so sorry for the grammar*
Glad that dragonfly didn’t do too much damage ! nice to see your back adam 👌🏼
His back? Weird fetish.
@@SeanDerwin1979 hahaha
Hi Nick . As a sparky of 37 years with many of it in domestic and maintenance. I do have a few questions. We always used to start at the top of the house with the lights and work down. I dont understand why you marked sockets before removing carpets to see what way and where joists were. If using plastic conduit in the walls believe the regs say about using individual rcbo protection for rings. I love your chasing machine what a cracking tool that is. Nice to see someone taking care and doing a good job.
LSF, low smoke and fume,. Difficult to strip back. Nice vid 👍
I think it’s only with post harmonisation cable though
That Metabo is the ‘dogs’, last place we chased out didn’t have ceilings in some rooms and the insulation is saturated in dust.
The consumer units needs to be sent to John Ward for further analysis.
#john ward , what a legend
nice one nick top work enjoyed the video
Great job 👏
Don’t use a chaser without glasses, absolute madness 👍🏼
All those cables directly under the bottom of the floor boards would be seriously sketchy in the US, someone drives a nail or screw to stop floor squeaks could start some serious issues. Ideally they would be down in the cavity passing through holes in the middle of the floor joist. We have small steel cable protector plates that get nailed over the wires on the top of each joist when this occurs in old work, stops nails or screws going into wiring. But it all depends on what their rules are where they are.
Great video as normal guys 👍👍
Jeeez were they the old Porcelain screwits in the light switches I’ve just seen , am sure I’ve gotta couple in the workshop drawer 🙈🙈🤣🤣
interesting how in different countries the buildings are so differently done - electrics wise, plumbing wise, style wise...just about everything really (plumber/basic electrician from Czech republic here)
Nothing wrong with that installation, just stick an RCD on it😁.
cracking video. Thank you
amazes me how diff each countries electrical methods are. This video vs here in the states, i’m lost and i’m a Master
Great video.
Cheers
Used my fluke volt stick for 5 years never ever let me down 👀 obviously use probes when needed
I used the same fluke voltage indicator for donkeys... then all of a sudden 2 days ago the swine belted me through the lead insulation... still passes a vis check 🤦♂️ didnt see that one coming
not all white twin was LSF, up until the 90`s i think, places like B&Q only sold white twin, that was how you knew any wiring had been done by a diyer, although white twin was also popular down south my college lecturer said. then at some point, presumably when LSF was manufactured, it all switched over to grey and white became the colour of LSF.
Yeah I remember back In the day as soon as something was seen wired in white twin it was automatically written off as shit and ripped out.
I think it was when harmonisation came out, hence red/black etc with an outer white sheath is probably just pvc
@@cumberland1234 you could be right, i cant remember, i vaguely remember being in college and the lecturer telling us about LSF that may have been the late 80`s.
White PVC outer T+E was the norm Pre harmonisation. I don’t believe it was ever made with “new” conductor colours. Grey outer and “new” conductor colours appeared together when manufacturers switched to EN7671 compliant products. They even gave away mixed colour stickers to put on CU’s with larger reels of Grey T+E. The IEE was the lead for the EU on the writing of the EN. I’ve still got some of the ‘for comment” drafts somwhere in the loft.
I was waiting for a cobra to come out of that wicker basket.
That Morrison bag looks like your batman hat, maybe time for a Morrisons hat lol.
Can someone please link where to buy a set of the adjustable speed screw drivers? good tool keen to try them out.
Wired off the meter...jeeeze...thought I’d seen it all!
The stick you’re giving that lad Bundy! Last week when he was off you were singing a different tune 😂😂🤣🤣👍
Think the white T&E low smoke, zero halogen (LSZH)...... Get some glasses on laddo’s mince pies when he’s drilling 👀😉👍
These days yes but I believe back in the old days when this load of garbage was done it was just a different colour of PVC.
Nick very nice and professional job can you share link for wire through chisel
Lol I also slated Jordan for using a maybe stick on one of his videos!!! Great video guys....though I bet you wish you had a 'Nom Nom' to work with like Tom Nagy 😂😂
Ade Jupe I remember it too, I think I added a comment or two on it! Thankfully Jordan learned by it and now emphasises doing it properly.
Jordan who guys

White T&E is LSF cable - Low Smoke & Fume
When I was a electrician some 40 yrs ago, we did a council house estate, never bothered with covering anything...😮 the tenant complained about all the dust we made......the foremans response was ....the dust was always there lady....we just moved it about....😎 you can image the lady's response as he walked away....😮🤣😂👍
Yep did the same in 1970's, council estate house's rewired in 2 days with plastic mini-trunking. Disgusting job but we had our instructions, dreaded the old widows houses, lino, 2 layers carpet and heavy furniture and fed cups of tea in jam jars.
Great video! Are you allowed to drill already notched joists?
You mention that Will puts his boards together off site - is there a video link that shows what he does?
43 minutes bleeding heck better get some snacks
I’ve been wanting to get those work mats for ages but didn’t really know what they were called 🤷🏻♂️nice one for the link. Good vids as always.
Does that radial supply all the upstairs and downstairs sockets?
Good job nick,, would it been better if you suggested to put the drops in surface trunking ( seeing they are an old couple ) would of been no worse then scars down the wall .got a good apprentice there, there a rarity ,hope you give him a pay rise
We get rewires done by 2pm. I can get a house wired and floors back down by 10am. Should only take 2 hours to run all cables in
Nobody asked
I hope Adam has been adding to his tool collection.
lmao when we do rewires the rubbish gets sweeped under the floorboards
I might have misunderstood you but the way I heard it you're running quite a bit of extra cable. Take the bedroom above the lounge as an example. I guess I'd have put a 35 mm box in that inside corner, run one cable to the socket next to the window (and down to the lounge from that), one straight down to the other lounge socket and one through the wall into the next bedroom. Just some Wagos behind that socket and your're done. Daisy-chaining sockets as if they were on a ring just drives up your Zs.
Wouldn't that need to be in 4mm? Rather defeats the point surely? And sounds like you'd be creating a rats nest behind the first socket.
ZS is not an issue in a small house like this, the lower the mcb the higher the zS can be, even when daisy chaining a radial I wouldn’t expect a zS much higher than 0.85
@@spencerwilton5831 Not if it's on a 20-amp MCB, then 2.5 is perfectly fine.
There'd be a few wires, that's why I suggested a 35 or even 45 mm back box. 35 should be plenty though. Easier to figure out than criss-crossing all over the place I'd say.
Zs might not be an issue but voltage drop on radials tends be get annoying pretty quickly.
Where did you get the large adaptable boxes from?
Neat job of the chasing. My preferred method using conduit rather then messing about with capping ! Even better when you can get hold of twisted crampets for holding it in the wall 👍🏻
Check out that vintage Morrison’s carrier bag
4:47 What flew by there?
Harmonised cable was available in March 2004. People often think if the job is done in harmonised, it must be post-Part P, but actually it was available for a year before Part P even existed.
Adam Imaginary girlfriend I think
how do you fix your conduit in the chases to the wall mate?
Gotta admit you and Adam flirting is less embarrassing than Nagy
what's the brand of floor protection your using chaps?
Random question for the domestic sparks, how long does PVC cable last ? And when should a home owner call it a day and get a re-wire ?
My house is a 1960’s build that was extended in 2003 ( loads of new sockets added to old part of the house and new consumer unit fitted so the house functions well and in my head the installation is safe )
I had a EICR done 2 years ago and it came back good apart from none earthed lights ( so I’m assuming this will be original wiring, I got around this issue by using double insulated lights and suitable switches ) all the cabling I’ve seen is PVC from what I can tell and no rubber anywhere.
Land of Oz here, with just that type of extreme temperature change that can cause deterioration. My experience is with Olex cables over 20 years old in a tiled house with non insulated flat tiles (no insulation below the tiles). Plus I had some of the Cu reacting with the insulation (green goo). The insulation check returns 2 MOhm and greater on all circuits. On very humid days, it drops to about 1.5 Mohm. So that should answer your question to some extent. Why dont you buy an insulation tester and do it yourself ? It's very easy if you understand electronics and electrical engineering.
greywolf271 Thanks for the reply, I’ve heard of “green goo” but not seen any evidence of it in my house.
We have an IR tester at work, but as this was done on the EICR and with good results I’m happy in that sense.
After having a think I’ll wait until the time comes for a house refurb and get it done then m.
Great vid, lots of info. Are you doing upstairs and downstairs radials? Is the kitchen going on a ring or radial? Keep the vids coming, best by far.
Cheers bud all radials, kitchen, up and down mate 👍
@@NBundyElectrical cheers for that, keep the vids coming. I'm new to the trade, retrained so older sparky but loving it, just need more hands on experience and no-one wants to take an older sparky out for a bit of experience 🤣 Cheers
Good use of a free PE t-shirt from ElecShow -- is this the only clean top a young apprentice can find for being on camera? 😁
With the old bakerlight JB's why was the earth always just tied on the outside?
Was that Artisan electrics on those bedsheets early on 🤔
Do you have the link to the hoover?
Hi Nick love the videos. If I could give you any advice it would be to wear knee pads.
was this the place with the ancient fluorescent tubes with exposed ballast etc?
I don't think so - the garages looked remarkably similar but I only saw batten holders with incandescent bulbs in this one.
i think the term your looking for is zero halogen (ZH rated twin and earth)
White cable was called London cable but it could be cable called (low smoke)😵💫
VIR everywhere! Oh goody, rip it out!
I’m new to all this - starting out with property refurbs. Have you some indicators to look out for to help decide whether a rewire is required?
If the consumer unit looks like that then it needs rewiring! Also look at the colours if it is red/black and not blue/brown it is pre 2004, also if they are rubber coated wires it will probably need rewiring.
The whole house supplied via 2.5 mm cables - WTF? 🔥 🔥
Ooh, VIR, lovely! My house us full of it, but it's embedded in cinderblock so I haven't bothered to rewire yet 'coz I'm lazy and hate black gritty shit in my hair and lug'oles...
