Sonny I am 72 years old and have been welding since the 70's. I have built everything from semi trailers, to pump jacks and even race cars including wheel standers and drag bikes. That is hands down the finest welding table I have ever seen or dreamed of. A lot of experts would say to me, what about this table or that table, nope, I've seen em all, I would choose yours over all of them. Art from Ohio
You do have to spend some time setting the saw up... blade, fence, etc. But once done, the saw is great. Fairly compact which is Nice ruclips.net/user/postUgkxXh-4_3-ZT1fFWP91ZV7iVqzElr0lEb-a I did get an Incra Miter Gauge which takes some setup as well. The stock miter gauge can be adjusted in the miter slot with a little painter's tape... this tightens up the side to side play a lot.
You gotta love the experts in the comments. Like look around at the shop he is in. I’m sure he knows how to machine a thing or two. His way. Not your way. There is no right or wrong way. Just the way that works.
The traditional heavy equipment approach for the caster mounting plates is to mill a caster mounting flange pocket in the receiving caster plate. This way the caster mounting plate cannot move in shear, can be a rather large force if both the table and work piece are heavy. Also, the pocket helps to line up a new caster if a replacement is needed. If the caster receiving plate has a recessed pocket then you have many options for the caster bolts in terms of strength, meaning you can use SS locking (serrated) flange bolts. The misc. shelves many times are made using custom welded SS (304) sheet metal pans with raised edges to catch fluids and bottom strengthening stringers as an option, wood is combustible so is not used as part of the table build. The pans slot into the tables to keep them in place. SS pans clean up really well and are non-sparking.
Dude - that was a mammoth effort. You are developing tools for life. Lifting... legs man. legs. If you wear out your back - you'll miss out on working with all these killer tools you've built. Thanks for sharing - super impressive build
Yeah, you have a safety centered mind, so remember lift with your legs not your back. You'd be surprised how much easier it is. Anyways, I absolutely LOVE THE TABLE !!! Keep up the good work !
Building a 7,000lb Welding Table For $6000 would still be a good deal for less than a dollar a pound. This is one of the nicer build I’ve seen recently. 👏👏
Look into annular cutters if you don’t already know about them. Much faster for poking holes. I hardly ever use drills if I’m just making holes over 1/2”
What’s not to love? The overkill concept, name and precise execution allied to the quality film editing and Spartan commentary all allow me to get over the use of a 1-2-3 block as a hammer .great stuff, and may every job on that behemouth will be pleasurable and double accurate
If you buy all the material now and wait a few years, it'll be free. Wow, i didn't know it worked like that. Joking aside, awesome build, man. Thanks for sharing
Save a lot if time by using the mag drill to drill the holes before you cut the plate. Plus the slugs make nice knobs with very little work in the lathe. The allo9wence for blade thickness is a little tricky for laying out the holes. most of the time I don't need that precession. I do the same with the metal muncher too. I tap punched holes with the impact wrench. I just add thickness to compensate for the lack of thread engagement.
From a crane guy. Use a choker for your sling. Just in case it's not quite balanced it gets tighter as you lift. A basket it could slip off. Enjoyed the video tho really sweet table.
I love your attention to the aesthetic details and robustness of the finished product. You could've just slapped it together and be done with it, instead you persevered to make it something you can hang your tools and your pride on. Excellent craftsmanship!
One idea on the threads into the plate is to turn the threads down to less than the minor diameter of the threads so you have a smooth consistent surface and then bore the hole into the plate with a 0.001" press. This does 2 things. It gives a tight fit and gives a shoulder on the threads to square it up to the plate and you can set the depth for the plug weld on the back side
Nice going, as a welding assembly table it is ideal for your purposes. Necessity is the mother of invention, and you have used that to your advantage. Well done 👍
I was pretty excited until I figured out that you got by far, the most expensive part for free. Most of us don't get to find that sort of luck in life.
If I didn’t have bad luck I would have no luck. However in this case it’s not luck it’s being hungry. I got the steel at a deal because I put in the work and hunted, same for the top I hunted for it and was patient. Don’t get discouraged. You can find great stuff too.
For the threaded rod, it might be overkill and more work (ie not needed), but if you had chosen to do threads in the plate, thread the rod into the threads, then weld it, could that have helped give you a better solid attachment to keep it from tilting while welding? Or I guess you could have cleaned off the threads in the lathe for the part that sticks into the plate and used that for the press fit. In either case I love watching your logic and work flow for projects, please keep up the good work. :)
You may have already said, somewhere, where you got the table..... so, apologies if you already covered this. Where did you get the table? A used machinery reseller, a scrap yard, or what? Thanks! Love the finished table n vise! 😊

Im inspired to make my forever welding table now.
I’m curious about the kind of work you do in your shop. Are you a job shop? All I’ve seen in your videos are renovations of shop machines. Love the detail you provide as you move through the video.
That keeps you on your toes. You never know what the day will bring or if you have the tools you need. I loved the variety though. Best wishes, I enjoy your videos and dedication to precision.
Brilliant build sir! You said when getting out the 8x3 steel that you had been in that shop for two years and it had not moved in that time, did you take over an existing business with all the machinery? Or most of it? I'm curious to know as I'm a new subscriber from the UK
just put 4 casters on the horizontal reinforcements of the base to move it and add some THICC threaded bars as legs that you can use to lift the table and finely tune the flatness of the whole table against the floor every time u move it. every time you move the table u need to check the flatness of it.
Sound solid strong. What a fixture table you have put together. Better than a Fireball Tool fixture table. But then having the top made would cost someone around ten grand more on its own. And all the clamps can be arranged any position at all. I thought you would use all thread or bolts with T nuts to weld up the trolley base, obviously I don't need to go into the circus as a mind reader! And as you noted the sheer size of it is as much as most jobs would ever need since you can overhang a bunch of the project and still utilise the flat fixture feature.
On some projects, I do use T-slot clamping. Having the other clamps is nice too they’re pretty convenient. The table is really nice but the fireball table would definitely be nicer. One downside of the table is in order to clamp some thing in the middle you have to slide the clamps from one side in. Can be a little bit of a pain if you have multiple things clamp down. One day when I get a mag drill I’ll drill clearance hole in the middle of the T slot so I can install the clamps halfway through the table.
Yeah, I should do a video on it. When I came into the shop space, the owner basically gave it to us as long as we got it running and I put a bunch of time and money into it In the beginning it’s running good now. but man that was a bear.
