  • In this video Dr. Reis, talks about the background to the paper and provides more details on how why skin ages and how the peptide that they investigated helps the reduce the effects of aging. It does this largely by supressing the growth of senescent cells, as these then go on to produce inflammatory secretions which affect the surrounding tissue.
    Dr. Carolina Reis is the co-found and CEO of OneSkin Technologies. She holds a biochemistry degree and a Ph.D. focused on stem cell and tissue engineering. After more than 10 years of developing science in academia, she is thrilled to translate basic science into products that will extend our healthspan. As a founder of OneSkin, she and the team have been working to develop the first anti-senescence topical product designed to promote skin health from within. Dr. Reis is an alumnus of IndieBio, the world's largest seed biotech accelerator. She has moved from Latin America to Silicon Valley 4 years ago to found OneSkin and has been actively engaged in the longevity ecosystem in the Bay Area.

    Very intresting. The one good thing is that this product probably will drop 50% in price the following 10 years. Will def try in the future. And orally is very intresting, combine it with fisetin and rapamycin hmm

    Great information! How does fisetin compare to OS-1 peptide as a senolytic? Is fisetin organ specific or does it have a systemic senolytic effect ?

    • @toomanymarys7355

      OS-1 prevents senescence and is a senescent rescue.

    As I know, the cell become senescence to prevent cancer when there is a mutation. If we keep them alive, wouldn't that be bad for us?

    • @definty
      @definty 3 года назад

      The trick is to not let them build up as we age. Which is what happens.

    • @incognitotorpedo42
      @incognitotorpedo42 2 года назад

      The idea behind senolytics is that they allow the senescent cell to die via apoptosis. If a cell has a damaging mutation, you'd really like it to commit apoptosis and die in an orderly manner.

    Not very impressed...
    a) A third party 'clock' will be more trustworthy. In fact the 'photoage' test is extremely accurate (-/+ 2%), and is offered for free by insiico at young.ai.
    b) She claims that senecent cells is major culprit. In the dish azithromycin killed 97% os senecent cells. Fisetin is also very effective. Both very safe, very effective, very cheap, and available. You would only need to do it intermitently.
    So I don't see the point. Nonetheless, I will be checking the next interviews.

    • @zisoskatsiapis656
      @zisoskatsiapis656 3 года назад

      Sorry: I meant +/- 2 years (which is quite accurate)

    • @iblisthemage

      great link, thanks. I can follow her argument about epigenetic variations in specialized tissues, I find it quite interresting, I stumbled over an article not long ago that measured quantity of senscent cells in different tissues, and found very big differences. Don’t have the link, sorry, I’m just a layman ipad-surfer :-).
      I agree that for commercial credibility purposes there needs to be 3rd party assesments. AI-photoage is not the whole answer here, because AI-black-box issues, ideally there was a 3rd party service to test out epigenetic age in specialized tissues, as well as composition. of senescent cells, however I dont like the idea of sending skin biopsies from my face :-D

    • @iblisthemage
      @iblisthemage 3 года назад

      oh, i just got the result from young.ai, a result of -15 years. I think that is a bit escessive, I have always looked younger than my age, and I am an active body-hacker, but I do not look my age -15... would love to, of course, maybe I should try those anti-aging skin products :-D
