GAS STOVES: I'm 65 years old and all of my life I've been around gas stoves. You could always smell the gas whether it was on or not.
Way back in the day if the igniter didn't work, which was most of the time, you had to use a match and wait those frightful seconds to see if the gas would light on fire.
Last year my eldest daughter bought a new stove to replace the old one in a house which she had recently purchased. I've been there many times and even dogs sat while they were out of town and not once, even when lit, did I ever smell that familiar smell of leaking gas.
These energy efficient appliances not only are safer for homes but no doubt save a ton of money every year.

I worked in an R&D lab as a reliability tech at a major water heater manufacturer for 18 years. The goal was to constantly improve the safety and efficiency of NG, LP, oil and electric water heaters. The changes that came about in those 18 years led to far safer and efficient appliances. Research is still ongoing (as well it should be) to make them even safer and more efficient. This is a good thing! Republicans don't seem to care about that..
Anything that has to do with change and progression scares the living crap out of them.

I heard some muffled talk last night when I was in my basement. As it turns out, my downstairs refrigerator and my freezer were planning to strike until they were both moved upstairs. They felt they were being discriminated against, because the new upstairs refrigerator was cleaned more often, because it had water and an ice maker.

i guess Rep. McGovern is tired of correcting republicans who keep saying "they're coming for your gas stoves!!!!!" . . . having the new stoves more efficient and/or better ventilated will only have a positive effect on health but also save money . . . and i don't believe there are any provisions to send out the stove police to take existing stoves.

Exactly. I had a freezer and a fridge which were both about 20 years old. The freezer started to act up last year in later winter so I replaced both with a combo fridge-freezer which has about the same storage and cost about 700$ but replacing them HALVED my energy costs for the last year! I was rather shocked and happy :D
If the GOP had gotten their way, the average US built car would still get 15 MGP instead of 35+
Don't forget about bringing back leaded gasoline and CFCs, smog days and lead in paint, since it seems those in the GQP are still eating paint chips.

My business is appliance repair, and manufacturers over the past so many years have delibrately made the quality cheaper, far less reliable, and harder to work on. I now experience issues all the time that I rarely did 15 years ago. Average life span is now considered to be 5 - 10 years when they used to last two to three times longer. This has nothing to do with government standerds and everything to do with corporate greed, and the manufactureres love when people blame government rather than them, which they do a lot. I even have many customers rant and blame the fact that parts are made in China or Mexico, and then I have to remind them that even though those parts are made outside the US the qualtity standards are set over here.
But its just not appliances I hear the same complaints from paople in other feilds of repair such as HV/AC and automotive. Everything is cheap and unreliable, engineered to fail in a short period of time in order to keep us having to constantly buy new. There used to be a time when corporations built their product with pride but those days are far gone.

You're on point. My parents bought a new washer and dryer when they moved into their house while pregnant with me in 1985. I don't remember her having them worked on more than once growing up. She finally had to replace the washer about 10 years ago and the dryer about 5. I may be off a year or so on the washer, but I know the dryer for sure because I was pregnant with my youngest. I've already replaced mine that weren't even 10 years old. 😒 that's crap.
Not only are products made to be harder to work it often costs more to repair then discarding & purchasing a new one. This is bad for the planet's environment. We need to focus more on renewal energy & making appliances last longer & be repairable & at less than it cost to purchase a new one.
I just love Jim McGovern. He’s a protector of the people, a true humanitarian, a thoughtful, kind, caring legislator. If the whole Congress had other members just like him, with his ethics, sense of fair play, and aggressive action for securing what we the people really need, it would be a far better Congress all the way around. Never been more proud to have voted for congressman McGovern. Proud Bostonian!! Also I have solar panels (gained a 6,000 tax credit) so a switch to electric appliances has made my electric bill a net zero cost. I pay 7.69 for my electric bill. Even had a credit last year from Ever source. If I could share my bill via pic here I would.

The whole lobby thing needs addressed. Any contributions made by corporate lobbies needs to be in an account for the citizens. Citizens should have a say in how the contributions are dispersed.
