He's the reason I don't judge football players by championships.
Exactly which is why I take him over Montana and Brady all day
@@drekball7245 exactly!
@@drekball7245
You can take Marino that doesnt change facts Montana and Elway are better
@Hector Rodriguez
Karl Malone > Allen Iverson
He had a top 10 defense only 5 seasons out of his 17 yr career. And some of those defenses gave up tons of points in the playoffs. Including in the SB.
No star running back in those 17 yrs either.
Marino is and always be the best pure passing QB hands down !!!! Nobody and I mean nobody can compare to Marino's arm & vision to hit receivers like Dan Marino period !!!
Yea I’m picking Marino. Guy was a freak
Except Justin Herbert
Except Aaron Rogers
Sonny boy Jergenson was pretty amazing with his whip.
@@Rob-fc4fv I like Herbert but he’s a little on the overrated side to me.
Dan Marino 7?....dislike
0:27 One word...WOW!!!
What a great passer Marino was. Pro-Football-Reference does a study to determine the Value that a QB gives to his team in the Reg. Season and Dan is in the Top 10 among QB's. They also did a study on that same Value that a QB gave to his team in the playoffs.
The P-F-R study found that Marino gave his TEAM a Negative Value in 10 playoff games and a Value in the single digits in 2 others. His overall Value was a terrible NEGATIVE 156. Dan was playoff challenged a good majority of the time.
Favre's Value was 302, Warner 422, Staubach 461, Aikman 527, Young 580, Elway 767, Bradshaw 903, and Montana 1292. Again Marino's Value was NEGATIVE 156. This study was done in '08 and never updated so no Brady, Manning, Brees, etc.
Link that.
@@Yeomannn I wish I could. Chase Stuart did that study but he left P-F-R in '08 and the site took down the blog in 2011. They took down their entire blog so you can no longer read any of them, not just this one. I had some notes that I had made about this one back in '08. I THOUGHT IT WAS VERY INTERESTING. I wish someone would continue it.
The worst part about Marino's total-he had a Negative Value in 3 of his 4 Championship Games-the '84 S.B., the '85 Conf. Champ., and the '92 Conf. Champ. and 2 of those were home games and 1 was at a neutral site.
Top 5🚫🧢
Talent wise he's the goat
Brady > Marino
I wish Jimmy Johnson would have traded Marino to Pittsburgh so he could win a ring or two.
Marino's defenses allowed 34.8 pts per game in his 10 playoff losses. No QB is winning a SB w/ a defense that bad.
That and Marino never really had much of a run game to support him. The team took him for granted and wanted him to score all the points, which he usually did.
Don Shula is one of the greatest coaches of all time and he leaned on Marino, and Marino liked that, he wanted to throw on every down. But it was definitely one of Shula's biggest failings, not ever getting Dan a good RB or a good defense. And say what you want about Jimmy Johnson, he obviously didn't lead the Dolphins to a Super Bowl, but he did create a pretty good defense down in Miami with guys like Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas. Too little too late though.
That’s who Aaron Rodgers reminds me of
@@DJ80s sounds like rodgers right now
He also didn’t play well in a lot of those games..
He had a top 10 defense five times..
Had the #1 ranked defense twice..
No one is above taking any responsibility
Always like to imagine the kind of numbers he would put up in today's NFL.
Mike G
7,500 yards
60 touchdowns
Dumisa Tony Johnson He would put up crazy numbers but not that crazy lol
Dumisa Tony Johnson Maybe the TD but not the yards
6,000 yards and 60 TDs. Not joking.
@@dame3323 7500 yards and 60 TDs today is maybe conservative compared to what it meant to throw for 5000 yards and 48 TDs in 1984. For context, only 13 QBs even threw for more than 3000 yards in 1984, and nobody other than Dan reached even 30 TDs. He wasn't just ahead of the game, he was playing a completely different sport from everyone else.
Top 3.

Agree hes number 1, but people bring up rings (which isnt his fault he never won) so I make it easy on everyone.
Top 1. Considering the rule differences.

Brady > Marino
@@martinsmith7407 Brady has nothing on Marino he's just a great system player Marino would've averaged over 6,000 yards and 70 TDs in Brady era
Would absolutely slaughter today's NFL.
And still not win a superbowl
Dean Rison
If you put the put right pieces around him in offense and defense he could’ve won championships
Nonetheless he was one hell of a pro football player
If I were starting a team and I had to choose between Montana and Marino
Marino’s my number one overall selection
He’s bigger faster and stronger than Montana ever was
Cesar Raudales I mean he has bill with him
Cesar Raudales I guess you don’t think a coach is important? That’s just stupid to even think lol. I mean a coach could be the difference between a good team and a all time great team. Keep thinking coaches don’t matter.
Cesar Raudales Also now I know you are just a bandwagon type of fan.
The best QB ever. There’s nothing like him. The fact that in 2022 we talk about him as the best QB, just no rings. His defenses were in the 20’s and he only had a running back rush for 1,000 yards ONCE. He almost did it by himself. His arm, accuracy and release are never gonna be duplicated. He played in the era where there wasn’t much trading going on. Not like these days. Your team was your team.
Imagine if Dan had a running game, and a defense...
He had a top 10 defense 5 times in his career. And had the #1 defense in league in 1983 & 1995.
@@hdqb2813 no running game
@@scarzandy436 His running game racked up 18 TD's in 1984. And had a top 10 defense. Don't make general statements without knowing any numbers.
@@hdqb2813 1984 was the ONLY year he had both and he took that team to the SB. Unfortunately he had to go up against one of the most powerful NFL dynasties of all time and a West Coast offense which their defense had no answer for. Most devastating were the underneath passes to Roger Craig because Dolphins LBs couldn't cover backs(just like today's Dolphins LOL). He was their top receiver for the game. Not to mention the Dolphins only ran the ball like 9 times for 20 some yards. No running game at ALL.
@Potandthekettle
I don’t want to hear it. They made it to the Super Bowl in 1982 the year before they drafted him, he had the #1 ranked defense in 1983, #7 ranked defense in 1984. And didn’t get it done. Yeah his defense had a tough time with the 49ers, but he also didn’t play well. No one is beyond reproach.
Don't care what anyone says, he's the #1 QB of all time, nobody played better.
Tom Brady had much better D. He's not even close to Marino.
Mr. Blue Cherry Tom Brady has one of the best offenses and defenses ever to help him
Let's not forget Brady always played behind good O-line's
I'd take Marino over all of the 4 plus Super Bowl ring's QB's because he was a better QB
No Brady is better
Should be higher than 7!!!
#7? Must be 20-year-olds who never saw him play - in a different era - who put this list together.
So since you don't get yo way when it comes to Dan Marino you want to twist narrative and say 20 year olds made list

Joe Smith definitely top 5 I'd take him over brady and manning he's clutch unlike them brady just has great defense and receivers to help unlike marino
I'll take Marino all day long over Montana and Brady
I agree. Should not be anywhere close to the top 10.
Marino should be way higher. He carried those Dolphin teams with no named receivers and a poor defense. His accuracy and strength was top-notch. I would put him at the top 5 at least.
Duper, Clayton and Moore were top NFL receivers. The defense and running game sucked.
I wonder what kind of a career they would have had without Marino.
What about the 5 years that he had a top 10 defense? Or when the Dolphins had the #1 ranked defense in 83' and 95'? No qb is beyond responsibility 100% of the time.
HDQB So he had a top ten defense 5 times out of 17. It was 4 btw.
@@dame3323
And still Dan Marino couldnt win superbowl with those top 10 defenses he had
Dan Marino did not have an outstanding team like Montana or elway yes he had the mark brothers but that's it he's the best
Cameron wake Rocks you forgot Brady
He had the #1 in ranked defense in the NFL in 83' and 95.' Had the #7 ranked defense the year he went to the Super Bowl. He did play on some solid teams at times.
Also had a top 10 defense five times, and had the #1 ranked defense twice. Not true!
@@hdqb2813 if that's so true why do they keep saying his defense was one of the worst ever being ranked 7th doesn't mean you're the best or anything it just means you're decent enough to make the top 10
@@nihilist2434 because people love to cling onto narratives instead of watching the film, reading the game logs, and coming up with their own opinion. The narrative has been blown out of proportion more and more as time has gone on.
If Dan Marino acted in The Fairly OddParents....

But Dan Marino's a white quarterback.
Spectacular and no rings. Hmmmm...... Where's Fran Tarkenton?
You know when your pears on national television say your the best all time. I dont think theres an argument (Aikman, Farve, Peyton Manning, Steve Young)
Dan Marino was the only weakness the 85 Bears had. Maybe he could have made more plays to get back to the Super Bowl. But the roster was poorly managed. When he had the Marks Brothers, the defense was a sieve. When he got a defense in the 90s, the Marks Brothers replacements were not as good. One constant was he had no running game. Only one running back in the Dan Marino era had a 1000 yard season. The story might have been different if he had a Thurman Thomas to hand off to and a D in his peak years.
Marino's quick release and great passing in general allowed him to play good enough to help the Dolphins win ONE Conference Championship. Most QB's aren't that gifted and a lot of QB's couldn't play good enough yo help their team win even ONE Conference Championship.
How many hall of famers on the offense did he play with?. How many times did he have a 1000 yard running back in 17 seasons? How many top 10 defenses did he play with? You can win a championship without a good team. You can't do it by yourself and Marino almost did. That's how good he was.
Bobby Gray Amen
He played with a top 10 defense 5 times. Had the number 1 ranked defense in 83' and 95.' He had the #7 ranked defense in 84 when they went to the Super Bowl. Whenever he had a great team, didn't get it done. No qb is beyond taking responsibility 100% of the time.

You guys are nuts, to compare this guy w Montana, Brady, Miami said they were the best team not true Miami said they have the best QB not true, a season is defined by holding a Lombard trophy, wake up from fantasy land best coached team was SF in the season which is definitely decided by the ring!!!
Dear everyone who said Brady is better than Marino,
You guys say he had a top defense twice, so Marino should have won a Super Bowl. Other people have debunked this saying the d sucked in the playoffs. I saw one person bring up this random Patriots game where Marino didn’t play well. You can’t tell me Brady never had a bad game. Someone else brought up some stat comparisons with zero account for era. People could actually play defense then. A lot of people didn’t account for era. Having a good rushing game was way more important then than now. I probably missed some stuff so please reply and tell me if I did. You probably aren’t gonna read this but here it is anyway. Have a great day!
Seven??? SEVEN??? When Dan Marino retired in 2000, he held EVERY SINGLE RECORD that a QB could possibly have. ALL OF THEM. It took the NFL to change the rules to a pass friendly league, so that different QB's could start chipping away at Marino's records. But at the time he retired, he held EVERY record a QB could have.
Yeah but Brees did what Marino did 5 times plus won a Superbowl and also got the best passing percentage ever. Y'all just got condition to say Marino.
@@manuelshaul9244 The rules have been changed since Marino played. The NFL changed it so QB's are favored and DB's can't touch WR's as much anymore. They literally made the NFL more pass friendly. That is the only reason why so many QBs now are putting up monster games like it's nothing. Back in Marino's day, a 300 yard+ day was an accomplishment. Now it's half the league qb's doing it every sunday. Brees, Manning, Brady, all these guys just benefited from a pass friendly NFL. The NFL did it to increase viewers. When Marino played, they could literally pile drive Qbs into the ground after every throw and it was no flag. The DB's could put their hands on WRs the entire route. It was different.
#7 ,what a joke / Top 3 for sure , ask the 6 ahead of him ....they say he was at least TOP 3....
U guys need to start looking for another sport! Have a great SB today!😢
Rings are a team accomplishment
Samuel Sanchez still . rings matter.
Captain Spartan 04 why would rings matter if you're talking about a single person and not a whole team? You could be the best in the NFL, with the shittiest team around you. Doesn't change anything ring or not
Samuel Sanchez, I totally agree. Even 3rd string players that never step on the field once during the season get a ring if their team wins the Super Bowl, but nobody talks about how great they are. You could be a 3rd string QB your whole life, getting traded from team to team every year, and get lucky enough that every team you get traded to wins the Super Bowl. You could end up with more rings than you can fit on both hands at the end of your career, but that wouldn't put you in any top 10 list if you never touched the field.
thank you. now I know that earth isn't full of stupid people

Young pocket QB’s should be coming to Marino for advice on how to slide and sidestep in the pockets, much in the way Lebron James and others come to Hakeem Olajuwon on how to do his famous Dream move and post up down low (sorry not basketball fan, don’t know terminology). He avoided countless sacks with this uncanny ability to move in the pocket.
Anyone else agree?
I think you make a good point but also Tom Brady good at that sidestep rush without being mobile
Dan Marino they can go to since hes not playing game anymore
if marino played in today's nfl, he might've indisputably gone down as the greatest qb of all time. Unfortunately we'll never get to see that hypothetical played out unless we can find a way to clone him
And still not win a superbowl💀
Cards fan here but this man is 6 spots too low
If rings were given out based on QB performance Marino would have at least a dozen. You know, because he shattered every QB record known to man that stood for 2 DECADES. There isnt one single thing Marino fell short in that cost his team a ring. FOH with this #7 BS. It's Marino, then all of the rest.
Nope Dan Marino #7 is fair hes not top 5 he choke in playoff games

@@sidneydamion9355 now go back and calculate what brady did in 17 years, not 20. Marino got his numbers in less time than brady. How old are you? 15?
Dan Marino 🐐 🐬
Goat 🐐Brady > Dan Marino
Dan Marino's number 7 that tells me right away Brady's going to be number one in his first playoff appearance where he got a Superbowl ring as kind of a McDonald's you get a treat with your Happy Meal he had one touchdown one interception through three games to a Superbowl get the f*** out of here Marino wood dice Brady up on his worst day

I would put him 5th behind Favre, Rodgers, Elway, and Montana
If Dan Marino ever had the supporting casts that Montana, Elway, Brady and Manning had he would have at least 3 rings. He was the best pure passer I ever saw and his quick release was legendary. Just ask anyone on the '84 Bears. They will tell you all about it. Someone once wrote ''Dan Marino could throw a football thru a car wash and it wouldn't get wet.'' That's how accurate he was.
He had the #1 ranked defense in 83' and 95.' Joined a team that went to the Super Bowl the year before he was drafted. Played for the winning-est coach in NFL history. He had the #7 ranked defense in 84 when he went to the Super Bowl and his team had 18 rushing TD's, yet they didn't get it done. The narrative that he played on a trash team 100% of the time is false. He had a few really good teams over the years. No qb is above taking any responsibility.
@@hdqb2813 That narrative was made up by YOU. No one said that he played for a trash team 100% of the time. Grow up.
@@thelawofdivineoneness458 It is in fact a narrative that is alive and well. Another narrative that is curiously used in a knee jerk fashion is that if someone has a different opinion or view on a subject, you have to sarcastically insult or undermine them personally, or tell them to "grow up" instead of merely responding to the topic at hand.
@@hdqb2813 Yet that defense let the 49ers drop 21 points on them in the 2nd quarter of the super bowl. The linebackers and the Blackwood brothers especially couldn't get it done when it mattered. As for 1983 special teams and the inefficient running game cost Miami that game. In addition to that once again the defense stunk it up and let Curt Warner pick up 113 yds and two TDs. I guess Marino should've went out and lined himself up at linebacker.
@@hdqb2813 Understand that , but get your facts correct thru Pro football REVERENCE ,Year by year all the stats are there . even OFFENSIVE SCHEMES , like Smash mouth.
Trash rating
Dan Marino is the best
Nope
7 now that is a joke
Can’t believe he almost was on the 98 Vikings omg...
Brady, and Montanna have the rings, records, clutchness and accomplishments
Peyton Manning had the near superhuman intelligence and accolades
Drew Brees has the accuracy
Steve Young had the mobility, Farve the gun-slinging ability and devil may care attitude to match
But before ALL of these abilities a QB must be able to have arm talent as the main job of a QB is to throw the ball. In this Dan Marino and Elway are unmatched. In terms of pure arm talent Marino and Elway are tied for #1 in my opinion but Marino had the quicker release.
Hear me out... Dan Marino with Ricky Williams at RB and the No-Name Defense of the 70s 👀
Best arm in history
This is great presentation! I grew up during the 70's and 80's so I can personally relate to that era as well as the present. No disrespect to Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach, but I witnessed Bob Hayes open MOST of the game due to his speed and respect. If the Bullet Bob Hayes had a ruthless quarterback like Dan Marino or Ken Stabler who could throw FAR downfield, there would be no question as to the fastest, the greatest, and the most feared of all NFL players. Darrell Green was exciting, no doubt about it, but Bob Hayes was Superman dressed like....Bob Hayes! He could outrun ANY ball that was thrown downfield. Obviously the Cowboys had another agenda.
Dan Marino accumulated a lot of stats, but 1984-1986 he had some great years, but didn't get 30 TD passes again until 1994. It's amazing he never had a couple of more years like 84-86. The era he passed in wasn't a whole lot different than the Manning/Brady era. Yeah, his defense let them down in a few playoff games, but Marino had a few of those games were he didn't show up as well. Another sidenote, Marino had one of the best offensive lines over time to protect him.
He can't win with the advantages at play at home in Joe Ruby stadium in the playoffs, is another Warren Moon, in the big stage he just cant win.
7 my ass.
Dan Marino no.7? Disrespect!!
Isn’t top 6 talent wise he’s top 3 bro wtf he throws better than Peyton and Brady
Played in the elements. Put up insane numbers. Probably best qb all time
this is a joke marino is the best ever.

The fastest gun in the east....
This is such disrespect he's at least top 3
Nope Marino not top 3
Should be number 5 at least
If he would’ve had a couple rings he’d be a lot higher on the list.
Marino shouldve left Miami after 91 or 96...because they weren't going anywhere....
I've said it before, but keep in mind, there are some straight up BUMS who have a Super Bowl ring on their finger through just about NO credit of their own.
Guys like Dilfer, Rippen, McMahon, yes, McMahon was a BUM, guys carried by a superior defense and adequate running game.
NONE of these guys are fit to sniff Marino's jockstrap after a hot Miami day.
SB ring means squat in overall rating of a quarterbacks talent.
Marino should be number ONE on this list.
If Marino doesn’t tear his Achilles tendon in 1993, he could’ve won a Super Bowl. That Miami team was stacked.
All Marino ever needed was some help.
Soon as he retired all the sudden there's Ricky Williams in the backfield running for 2000 yds and the best defense in the league with Jason Taylor, Zach Thomas, Patrick Surtain, Brian Cox, etc.
You give Dan all that it's a dynasty💯... But no let's wait till Jay Fielder is running the show 🤷🏼♂️🤣
unitas y marino son los dos mejores QB de la historia!!!
Marino was an incredible quarterback and a WINNER. Also a really good person and family man.
