    Great video. Easily saved me a lot of time versus how I thought I would do it. I’m finnda make a bunch of scraps look good and a bunch of walls look very busy. 2:49

    I grew up in eastern Massachusetts, for us there is a saying in the summer " its not the heat that's so bad its the humidity" anything below 90% humidity is comfortable. The winters can be brutally dry though. About the only engineered wood products I like is bamboo products. I would love to see an entire house built out of bamboo products even all the interior design components down to the carpets, curtains, linens, everything except the plumbing, electrical and hardware.

      Bamboo is a super cool material. There is a guy in Hawaii who builds out of bamboo. He built an off the grid all bamboo house which was featured on a DIY channel show. It was pretty fascinating.

    I didn't see that episode but my isea is to replace traditional 2x4, 2x6, 2x12, plywood, carpeting, and everything but not have it look like it is bamboo. I bought a bamboo cutting board that looked a lot like osb only with a smooth finish. I also purchased a t-shirt made from 100% bamboo it has the breathability of cotton and the feel of silk. Bamboo is the most renewable and versatile resource that can replace wood. It can even because of it's fibers replace fiberglass insulation.

    How deep is the cut (groove) for the shelve? and when you do two shelves on both sides, isn't this making wall too thin? trying to build a bookcase too

    • @thegreenworkbench
      @thegreenworkbench  5 лет назад

      The dado or groove cut is only 3/16" deep so there is still 3/8" of material left between the groove. Yes, the vertical piece with the grooves is weakened at these points, but once you install the shelves it actually becomes stronger.

    Nice project. Not sure why the half shelf was even in there?

      Thanks. Just for something different to break things up. It really doesn't need to be there.

    mdf in the basement? you must live in a very dry area. I found mdf is not good for the kitchen, bathroom, basement, or a shed. Even if it says moisture resistant I don't trust it with the $$ and time invested I want it to last and be recyclable if needed. If mdf gets wet it can just crumble and fall apart.

      I live in the second dryest state in the country, so I have to add humidity to the air! No worries here on it getting wet! Thanks for pointing that out though. It's a great thing for everyone to consider.

    how did you affix the whole frame to the wall?

    • @thegreenworkbench
      @thegreenworkbench  4 года назад +1

      The support braces that I screwed to the back with pocket holes are flat against the back wall so I screwed those in to studs in the wall. As a note, when you are planning placement of those braces make sure you account for any outlets in the wall.
