4:49 you can clearly see the cruise control on the turning signal. What he thought would be the cruise control, is the adjustment for the brightness of the gauge cluster. There were lots of other colours available for the interior, also a sunroof and heated seats. Get one with the ZF Transmission and the spec you prefer and you get one of the best looking and sounding sedans ever build.
I love Doug's reviews, but have to disagree on this one. To be fair, my experience starts at the 2008 model where several of his complaints were addressed and fixed by Maserati. The ZF transmission upgrade completely and reliably resolved the issues that plagued the duo-select. Several other updates resolved issues he mentioned as well. Regarding his comments on the styling. This is where I cannot disagree more. I feel like the styling is timeless and gorgeous. It's like saying a vintage Porsche looks dated. The M139 Quattroporte's design, in my opinion, is gorgeous and so unique. Add to this the rarity of coming across one on the road, it still turns heads, prompting people to ask what it is. I love it because it doesn't look like other cars and, in person, it has a very assertive and sexy presence. The interior is also stunning in it's craftmanship and high quality hand stitched leather. Regarding it's reliability, read owner reviews. It's surprisingly reliable with nearly all giving it 5 star reviews. One last point, that is less significant, but worth noting, I would have NEVER even considered the issue with the placement of the turn signal and the paddles if Doug hadn't said anything. Perhaps this was also addressed by 2008 because it is a nonissue. My reach has never been obstructed by the paddles.
Given that's about as likely to happen as you spontaneously turning into a living, breathing snowman dancing on the surface of the sun, I must admit my perplexity as to why you'd ever even think about such a scenario.
True, I'll likely never know the exact odds of this car being sold to a person with Doug DeMuro along with it, but I can be strongly certain that the chances are roughly equivalent to you spontaneously appear four or five years before the Big Bang. Not necessarily utterly impossible, but so very near to it so as to be mathematically indistinguishable from utterly impossible. Also, even if he WERE to come with the car, all one would need to do it let him out, he'd go on about his merry way, and the annoyance/problem you speak of will have solved itself in mere seconds, thus making the overall horrid design of the car a vastly more pressing problem than that of Mr. DeMuro. Unless, that is, you'd PREFER he come with it were you to buy it, in which case... ;-) that wouldn't be an annoyance/problem for you at all, now would it?
I've had my 2007 QP for the last 8 years. My check engine light has never stayed on, I never changed no f1 pump or anything under the hood, I still have my original clutch with 22k miles and my interior is NOT blue. It's beige with light brown. I have heated, cooled and massaging seats. I have never used the radio because I installed an auxiliary wire to plug in my music. Trans does have a lag in it. Feels like driving a standard manual but it has 400hp so the car is still quick for a sedan. This guy tested a lemon.
You must have the year with ZF Transmission as Doug mentioned. The Duoselect ones are absolute shit. In addition, you must be very lucky to have a QP that hasn't been a money pit. I've met a few people who own a QP or have owned one and they are constantly wasting money fixing everything that breaks
Shantanu Kulkarni doug's dougscore Practicality: 10/10 Responsibility:9/10 Performance (in bed): 2.5/10 Doug is kinda nigga who complains his neighbor about how long neighbor's lawn is while leaving his own lawn to grow.
Dear Doug, I love your show, but you should test a proper Quatroporte. I now own my 3rd QP, a QT GT Executive 4.7 S, and love it! My first was a Duo-select like the one you reviewed and it was not the best transmission but it gave a excellent driving feeling. The ZF gearbox is way cheaper to maintain. I think the car you used to make the review was in bad condition, we can see it has un-matching tire sizes, the profile of the rear is not matching the fronts. I have Quatroportes for 10 year now, and it has been a sweet story, no big issues and a lot of enjoyment. I think you were not very objective, at times it seemed you were trying to prove your preconceptions instead of doing a objective valuation, or maybe that car in specific was not a good unit. I would not trade my 4.7 QT for a Panamera or a S-Class... But I´m looking to had a 4.7 Granturismo to my garage, simply the best looking GT made on this century, and a design that keeps it´s appeal even today, and the exhaust note is the best there is . Keep up the good work, but I think this model was not fairly treated.
My uncle has one as well for 5-6 years now, never had any problems with it. Everybody unanimously agrees that the duo-select system was terrible, but if you buy one that is slightly more modern, I don't think it's that bad of a car (granted that there are always risks with an older car, and with a luxury car, those are expensive risks).
The market speaks for itself: A six figure car shouldn't lose that much value so quickly. If they're actually selling for 20k (and they don't have some obscene mileage, like 230K), that's damning enough on the model.
On other Italian cars, Doug lists all the quirks that are a little weird and is okay with them. On this Italian car, he rants about how bad the quirks are.
I’ll offer some help, since I’ve got one of these (a Quattroporte Sport GT, executive trim) currently, but mine is a 2008 (and I paid $18,500 for mine). First, Cruise control is on the left stalk. Granted, the button to turn it on is on the little panel - turn it on once when you get the car, and it’s on forever. Re: the radio - don't jump through those hoops every time - those are how to set the stations up. Just use the buttons on the wheel. Re: the check engine light - takes 16-20 seconds, the computers always do a self-check when it starts up. It’s not a big deal, and Mas owners don’t wig out over it. The vents on the side are real, not decorative, used for airflow with the tiny engine compartment. The Duo-Select tranny does suck - make sure you get the ZF - way better. Re: outdated styling - not so much. Pininfarina did the body, and their name is still on it. Mine turns heads and garners comments everywhere I take it. I've no idea why Doug didn’t dig the sound - Top Gear reviewed the QP, and Jeremy shushed James and Richard when it was driving by so he could listen. Even in this video you can hear it - the Ferrari motor and that exhaust note is simply Italian music. Performance time 0-60 - I dunno, mine is a 2008 QP Sport GT, and it’s quite a bit faster than described. I’ve replaced an alternator which, to be fair, was pricy, but other than that, literally everything on the car works, and it’s my current daily driver. It seems like Doug may have had an axe to grind; it’s a quirky car, but people love it, it’s a *joy* to drive, it’s very fast, handles like a dream, and it’s super comfortable. I could fall asleep trying to care if people think I’m rich; This was a bucket list car for me, and I just love driving this thing! Just make sure you get the ZF trans and you’ll love it.
Re: not everyone loves this car, and if yours turns heads and make people comment it's because of the brand image, not the car itself. I've seen many of these and I couldn't care less when I see them. Doug is not wrong describing this car's mediocrity.
I have never owned a beautiful Maserati, but having owned VW, Audi, BMW, Porsche, Fiat, Abarth, and Alfa Romeo; the Italians win, hands down. And that includes, driving experience, pure automotive art and indeed reliability - believe me!
@@TheCostantinus that's merely your opinion lol. Masaratis are different cars ,and ones you don't see everyday . I think they look good as that is my prefrence .
As an owner of a QP I'll have to say , you are right on some occasions. You should not buy one if you cannot pay for repairs, but that counts for all cars. True the entertainment system is silly and the rearscreen has two buttons instead of one. The little poke to go into reverse is a bit odd and something you have to explain to someone that it has to be tilted upwards before they break it. However, shiftpaddles work just fine even in auto mode. No seat heating, true(I guess that's optional, not strange considered the cars are made in Italy..).Strange you did not mention that it is a fuel consuming car (you probable are used to that in the US). But the info button on the steering wheel works just fine, and you cán change the radiostations on the steering wheel while the nav is on. The airbag on the passengers side is quite visible (but then again it makes sense so you don't put stuff on it). The airvents in the middle do not rattle at all, for a fact nothing rattles, and it has 185.00 km on mine !You are right about the cruise control buttons ,but living in Europe with all the heavy traffic I never come to use it.I never encountered problems with the paddleshifter and the turning signals by the way. I replaced the clutch once , not strange since it is a rearwheel drive 2000 kg car. Mine has a beautiful tan leather upholstery and It does handle very well. Acceleration 5.2 sec is maybe not fast if you are used to drive sportscars but it's a sedan (the fastest sedan actually when it came out the first time) But it still drives like a nimble car .The sound of the QP is fantastic even with standard exhaust. Because the windows are dubble layered you'll have to open a window to hear it though. Off course everyone has a right to their own opinion , mine however comes from a 5 years experience with this car and although things like style and details you might like or dislike are totally subjective. My experience is that nobody looks at you like you are a douchebag when you drive a Maserati , I have never gotten so many complements about this car and I have driven a lot of nice cars. This is still by far my favorite car. For what it's worth, if I testdrove the car you drove in this vid I would not buy it, there's to much wrong with it . Does not mean all QP's are like this , I'm sure I can find a real shitty 997 Turbo. 😎
I recently bought an 05 as my first car and as a project car for 4k. I love thé style the stupid f1 gearbox and all the bullshit on it just because it’s a fun car

Just picked up an 06 one of these with 11k miles the transmission lurching is absolutely true it’s awful in automatic. Doug is pretty much spot on in this review
@@MikeBrown-yx1eb there was no manual transmission offered here. However, Maserati was forced to redesign a substantial part of the car to fit a ZF 6 speed automatic transmission in it.
Or think of it as a Ferrari F430 V8 donor engine for super cheap. Notice Doug never mentions that this is a normally aspirated Ferrari V8 engine.Which you can’t even get in a modern Ferrari mid-engined coupe anymore.
If you think of buying a Maserati Quattroporte V. go for the Automatico version. It’s a ZF 6-Speed torque converter. Also the facelifted model is one of the most beautiful limousine ever made. Much more unique than the successor which is a bit generic.
@5:45 you complain about the tedious task of changing the radio preset on the head unit... but at 2:58 you complain about how there are 2 buttons on the steering wheel to change the radio presets.

I fell in love with the Quattroporte. To me, it's one of the best looking sedans ever made. Maybe because I'm a latin European. You complain about the sound? I think the exhaust, the stock one, is of the best sounding exhausts I heard from a V8. How can someone say it's ugly, weird and doesn't sound good, is beyond me.
In my opinion that Quattroporte got better better around 2008 to 2009, the V8 on those models are killer, they sound amazing! Also those year models are better equipped and better looking and don't have the weird... small thingy they call a gear selector ... yuck
Giving this car a hard time about the airbag cover is also a bit too much. There's a good reason for having a cover - and that's not having to replace the entire dashboard if you get into a minor accident where the airbags happen to deploy.
What confuses me for example is when Doug reviews a nice car like a McLaren or a Ferrari he says how quirky and cool it is for a car to have 4 different buttons you have to press to get to the radio, but when another, lower-end car has the same system to get to the radio, its a shitty car.
I'm sure all of the negative things you've said about this cars functionality are true but I think it's one of the best looking sedans of all time. And that transaxle helped the weight balance endowing it with the great handling

8:03 - my 2005 Quattroporte does not have a blue interior. It's gorgeous beige with dark piping option. I have a sun roof and heated AND air condition seats. All seats front and back MASSAGE! My back seats recline. The reviewed Quattroporte had no options on it.
Tim Pavy, nope, that was a different QP. As Doug describes well, they fitted a ZV 6 Speed Auto in 2008, a much better fit. THAT version was the featured against tha ugly Panamera in Top Gear.
DOUG love your videos but you NEED more scenes of THE CAR I watched the WHOLE video without you showing what the FRONT OR BACK look like!! Could you show AROUND THE car for all of your videos 🍕🍕
This review never made sense to me. Doug is always about loving the quirkiest cars, yet he hates this VERY quirky car. The driving experience is great, the sound is great, the looks are menacing, the brand name is near the best, and it has more quirks than you can imagine for an Italian car, yet Doug despises it... I just don't get it.
I had a friend who had an 04 Quatroporte, I knew about it's issues, I knew it wasn't that expensive, and he had it in an ugly silver. But still, to me it's one of the most beautiful cars of the time. And even today I find it so beautiful, especially in black.
Doug, you have to realize Maserati is still a relatively small producer. You will never see at Mercedes or BMW that many counterintuitive features and quarks because they have experience with building big sedans and ergonomic issues were dealt and solved troughout several generations. Not that this is an excuse for them, but it is a good explanation. BTW, I love your videos, keep up the good work!
Assuming you make it to the main road :) This is the only car that can simply die in your garage over night with no reason despite yesterday evening all worked perfectly fine. Beautiful indeed but also the most unpredictible vehicle I have ever driven.
You wont look rich in this car in Ireland, because the Irish Registration plates show how old the car is. So everyone will know that you're just a wannabe rich dude.
Well then , you're the right kind of person to own this car. You have one because its without doubt, an amazing car and not because you want to look rich
I have never been a car guy, ever. But your videos have actually sparked my interest in high end, high performance vehicles. One of the best "learning" channels on RUclips. Great job.
People bash on the Maserati QP because they are buying the wrong one. The Maserati QP Sport GTS after 2009 with 4.7 Liter V8 is an amazing car. Its looks are updates and look way better. It has sports suspension, which may be uncomfy, gives you more of a Ferrari feel plus the sound is probably one of the best ever period. It's why top gear called it a 4 door supercar and I bet if Doug Demuro would review one his opinion would probably change on the QP
I don't think he hates them. He's just pointing out the fact that the only good thing about Maseratis is the badge, their exclusivity. But other than that, they are crap.
Italian's and im not kidding drive around with espresso in their cars so that's why the cupholder isn't that deep . The radio on this car is the V8 under the hood

Doug the type of guy to review a 13 year old rental and complain about build quality
Well, the car costed a 106k when it was new. All cars from that time that were in this price range had way better build quality and more features.
You can buy a 26 year old Mercedes sold for far less and it will have excellent build quality to this day.
thats exactly what build quality is.
@@chili_boi2537 the cars had Ferrari engines also? yeah no. You are also paying for the thing cars are made for- performance and driving...

Design isn't aging well?
I love that design!
Edit: Gotta admit, the Front is "weird".
Armagan Sengül the back is really nice but the front is ugly
It looks like a Mazda MX-6 fucked a 2005 Ford Fusion....
He's not referring to how pretty or ugly it is but how it plainly looks dated next to a more modern car in this decade.
The front and sides are fucking dogshit.
Armagan Sengül it means that it isn’t really fitting into the “newer” generation of cars
My quatroporte doesnt do that, the one you have has been neglected by previous owner(s)
@soph3699 do you have a quatroporte?
@soph3699 what year?
Wow I never thought I'd see a Maserati owner on car review videos
Emmanuel Hrist well with how cheap they are... i mean holy biscuits I would buy one
@soph3699 yeah sure...
Couldn't agree more with all that you mentioned. Lets not forget that Doug knows better than pininfarina designers what beauty is :)
He has addressed all of these former issues in his more recent videos, saying that a Quattroporte with the ZF is a good used car.
Hey Joel! I agree with everything you said for obvious reasons!
Is it the 8 speed zf box? Does the 2008 have heated seats?
@@leer5858 He did CTS, ZF transmission yes, but six speed.
I think the biggest annoyance/problem with this car would be if you bought it and it came with Doug.
Given that's about as likely to happen as you spontaneously turning into a living, breathing snowman dancing on the surface of the sun, I must admit my perplexity as to why you'd ever even think about such a scenario.
Entropy you never know my friend xD
I don't know why people think he is annoying. He seems like a smart guy
Adnan Popara 0.0 LOL!!!!!
Your is 2 years newer. In those 2 years Maserati implemented those features and, as Doug said, fixed the transmission
No, you just own a good example. Maserati builds junk.
Your lucky. Most are junk
Fuck you
You must have the year with ZF Transmission as Doug mentioned. The Duoselect ones are absolute shit. In addition, you must be very lucky to have a QP that hasn't been a money pit. I've met a few people who own a QP or have owned one and they are constantly wasting money fixing everything that breaks

Was looking to get one as my first car I purchase myself after I graduate 2022 hopefully the prices stay
hear hear
My uncle has one as well for 5-6 years now, never had any problems with it. Everybody unanimously agrees that the duo-select system was terrible, but if you buy one that is slightly more modern, I don't think it's that bad of a car (granted that there are always risks with an older car, and with a luxury car, those are expensive risks).
Doug is not to be taken seriously. He's a goofball who unintentionally does car comedy. The type of guy to pull down his pants to pee at the urinal.
The market speaks for itself: A six figure car shouldn't lose that much value so quickly. If they're actually selling for 20k (and they don't have some obscene mileage, like 230K), that's damning enough on the model.
Maserati gon lock Doug up in Area 51
Thanks Doug, now the price will go from 20k to 70k
Yep, just like those "Dubai" super cars for free, by the time you find out about it on Facebook or RUclips, it's gone, it's long gone.
Xilence what free super cars are you referring to???? 🤔💯
Why would the price go up!!??
He’s not really making a good review about it.
Couldn't of said it better. I bought a 2009 quattroporte s after watching this video and still have it
Re: not everyone loves this car, and if yours turns heads and make people comment it's because of the brand image, not the car itself.
I just got a late 2007 Sport GT, with the ZF, and it has nothing of the issues he complains about. It’s low miles, looked like NEW for 20,000 cnd.
I recently bought an 05 as my first car and as a project car for 4k. I love thé style the stupid f1 gearbox and all the bullshit on it just because it’s a fun car

I just don't get it.
The American market will always get the shit end version of cars.
Kaneda12 that’s 100% true
Come to Australia. And to make it worse, the prices are doubled.
You guys have no idea what's it like in Latin America. Cars are way overpriced, with less features than anywhere else.
Yeah we only get the cool muscle cars
But we get all the good guns 😎 🇺🇸
Maserati belongs too Stellantis, meaning Fiat, Chrysler and Peugeot. thats not exactly "Small"
Isn’t Maserati suppose to be an ultra luxury company too? I swear it’s suppose to be like a level bellow Bentley.
@@Appeeler98not when this car came out
This car symbolizes why people still buy cars older than 2000
I will buy one anyway. I love the design and the price.
you know what you'll also totally love? Being stranded on the side of the road with a failed transmission. Enjoy.
Assuming you make it to the main road :) This is the only car that can simply die in your garage over night with no reason despite yesterday evening all worked perfectly fine. Beautiful indeed but also the most unpredictible vehicle I have ever driven.
You can get a Pinto or a Yugo for cheap, too.
@gunit 010 *you're
If *you're* gonna insult someone make sure *your* grammar is correct. Dumbass
Good luck, fixing a outdated luxury car, and a bad transmission lol.
You wont look rich in this car in Ireland, because the Irish Registration plates show how old the car is.
So everyone will know that you're just a wannabe rich dude.
Well then , you're the right kind of person to own this car. You have one because its without doubt, an amazing car and not because you want to look rich
Good for you! As a car lover, you should set your sights on a car that sounds something like the Maserati and not like a washing machine.
Michael White the English like to buy number plates from Northern Ireland because we ID the county of registration but only vaguely the year.
I have never been a car guy, ever. But your videos have actually sparked my interest in high end, high performance vehicles. One of the best "learning" channels on RUclips. Great job.
I'd tap the brakes on the "learning" part. A lot of what he is saying is wrong.
@@freedomsound4469 correct.
Please no!
Lol if you don't know cars #fakeaccount
People bash on the Maserati QP because they are buying the wrong one. The Maserati QP Sport GTS after 2009 with 4.7 Liter V8 is an amazing car. Its looks are updates and look way better. It has sports suspension, which may be uncomfy, gives you more of a Ferrari feel plus the sound is probably one of the best ever period. It's why top gear called it a 4 door supercar and I bet if Doug Demuro would review one his opinion would probably change on the QP
this is hard to watch because I feel it's really biased, why is doug so mad? I feel like he really hates maserati lol
I don't think he hates them. He's just pointing out the fact that the only good thing about Maseratis is the badge, their exclusivity. But other than that, they are crap.
@@wisanikenny5097 Like Apple's products, for a clearer picture.
He’s not mad he’s right . The car is shitty and they get by on their badge and name
@@chrisadlc1 You forgot the V8 sound
@@ammarharith5512, yeah Apple products are so bad, that's why almost every company is copying their design..
Italian's and im not kidding drive around with espresso in their cars so that's why the cupholder isn't that deep .
The radio on this car is the V8 under the hood
Yep, Ferrari V8 ;)
st33fie right on!
No espresso outside the bar/ home in Italy, that's like a rule.
Doug is the type of guy to buy a soda cup and put water in it
He did help people buy a beautiful car for less money so he did a great job.
The only guy in the world who said it didn’t sound great lol
