2+ years later still enjoying mine, this video helped a lot, only thing I'll add is if one is planning to stain or paint it, do it before assembling especially the top section, then touch up any blemishes upon completion. Cheers.🥂
Just wanted to say thank you. Built mine with my step dad. He built the roof one day and we completed structure the following. Your tips helped a lot. Did take three people to lay the roof. For all those attempting this project, it’s not so hard if you follow the directions.
Thanks for making this video! Every other tutorial video makes it seem easy and flawless with no mistakes. I appreciate you being honest and sharing your mistakes so others won't do the same. Cheers!
Thank you... now my wife wants one ....and she said..." he did it by himself, you can do it too"... why didn't you buy a barbecue or something easier man....????LOL
r Ochoa Dude!!! Have you bought a barbecue or tried assembling one of those in the past few years? Your much better off to assemble 2 of these than to assemble one bbq nowadays! The new ones sure aren’t like the old Weber’s used to be where there’s only 4 pieces and in 10 min your filling it with briquettes and getting her seasoned up, lol
I just purchased a lot of open lands and didn't plan to build for a while. The Costco 12 x 14 Yardistry Pavilion will have to do for now. Good work! Thanx!
Thanks for sharing all these tips and tricks - and especially for telling us what not to do that you experienced! We'll be putting ours up here in a couple weeks after the cement is poured.
Excellent video. This is the kind of video everyone needs to watch before building this...you learn things they don’t warn you about in the instructions. Great job
Yo -- i bought this gazebo last weekend and am looking to put it together over this upcoming long weekend... i thought I would check youtube to see if any videos were out there and found this gem you created. Thanks so much for this great video -- i really appreciate watching you put this together and what you learned along to the way. Thank you! Enjoy your gazebo!
Glad i watched this video. Im about to assemble mine but has yet to read the booklet. This for sure will save me a lot of headaches. And others as well.
setofirons I have a question for you, Did you ask permission to set this up and did your town building code allow this to be set up? The reason I ask you this question it’s because I got the same one at Costco so we set it up and I completely loved it, but we didn’t know that our town code regulations did not allow it. At least that’s what they told me!! Alter a long fight with the town I end up take it down.😔
Nice job man. I can relate to doing everything alone. Sometimes I get myself into a bit much haha. Thanks for having the integrity to admit to your mistakes in the interest of helping others.
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL! You did a fantastic job of building the structure and filming the process. Hope you enjoy many good times underneath your pavilion!
Ordered one today at Sam’s. Thought I’d check and see if some professional builder had shot a video. Glad I found your build. Couple things I noticed- Your wife and son are as helpful as my wife and my 3 sons. (Mine are 24, 21, and 14. Accidents waiting to happen with tools in their hands) Great of you to remind us to “measure 4 times, cut once” and to pre-drill pilot holes. Love the look of the lights. Will do the same. I may add a couple oscillating fans to the joists vs trying to add a ceiling fan. Thanks again for shooting this for all of us. Nice of you to include the few mistakes you had. Glad none were the type that you had to dismantle the entire structure.
Bought this pavilion last year and was unable to get it built until today. Finally finished. Thanks for video and notes. Your a go getter, keep up it up dude. Now I am going to BBQ artichokes this weekend.
Thank don Wynn I just got two delivered today and am totally relieved I can do this on my own. I will be using a socket attachment on my cordless impact drill to speed it up a bit
thank you so much, i will be building mine this weekend, i purchased two and will place them back to back. your video gave me a real good look of what to do and what no t to do, thank you again
Hey Don. Great skills you have, both in construction and video. Thanks for sharing your experience . The Costco product looks to be quality when built properly. You have a new subscriber here
WOW! Thank you! I am at the 4 corners square point and needed your video to encourage and motivate! You have a great sized backyard for the Bay Area, that must be old school property purchase, good for you guys you look like you know how to enjoy it. I have a suggestion ... how about sealing those cracks with expanding concrete sealer and then smooth over? I have the same size cracks in my garage and I am trying to get the courage to do it right. Thanks again for your video!
Thanks for your video, thanks for pointing out the mistakes you made. That goes a long way in not only helping those who follow your lead but in a person's confidence following your video. Good dance too, but at 65 I could dislocate a hip!!
great item! If you have trees/snow and assemble per instructions the debris piles up on the roof but if you put the overhang roof trim under roof panels the debris slides right off and still looks like a finished edge.
Thanks for this video. I’m getting pavers installed and have been looking at this for years at Costco. Hopefully I’ll purchase this some time after the work.
What a great detailed video ! Thank you do much for sharing. Great tips and before-hand knowledge information that only experienced will teach you not a manual that it comes with ! Great job with a person installation without no help ! Very nice back yard !!!!
Thank you Don for this great video. I am going to start building ours in the morning and you covered everything I wondered about and way way more. I'm sorry you had to undo all those screws and re-align the roofing but I"m so glad you warned us!
Thanks Andrew. Just trying to help out anyone who is putting one together so they won’t make the same mistake I did. Unfortunately I lost the footage of us putting up the roof, a lot of people wanted to see that. If you are building one soon and are willing to film it, you can send it to me and I can edit and put up the video so everyone can see how it’s done. I think that would help a lot of people.
Working on mine today. I am also working by myself for the base, but I will have some help for the roof panel. I saved a little time using a cordless impact for the hex bolts, but your recommendation of tapping the nuts with a hammer is 👍
Looks great Don, I should have a poured foundation for my pavilion in 2 days. It looks like I will only need help putting up the roof. Can't wait to show you my add on's.
Here's some ideas...1-Incorporate electrical wiring and add a ceiling fan, also wire two electrical outlets, one near the ceiling to connect any string lights and one lower to charge phone ipod etc. If yours is away from the house just wire with a terminal box ( like those for standby generators) so you can use a heavy duty outdoor extension to plug into the box to supply power ..just unplug it when not in use. 2-Add roll up bamboo shades for privacy, or sheer curtains for a sexy look..3 Call up the ladies to come over.🍸🍻..
This looks way bigger than the one I see in Costco. I want one one but husband doesn’t want to put it together. So I’ll keep waiting. Great job !!!! Learned a lot
looks absolutely stunning iam on my way to costco to purchase one, ive been wanting to add this to my backyard to have a relaxing spot on the weekend again good job
Thanks for making the video. I did notice that you positioned the roof to shed water towards your windows and foundation. You might want to reposition or setup a collection diversion system with gutters and such. If it’s a cold environment, you could also have ice sliding into your windows when a thaw starts. Cheers.
Looks great but I would be very concerned with moisture issues from rain coming off of the roof and hitting the side of your house. Keep an eye on the window and foundation.
Hard to believe still standing since not anchored to the concrete. Small investment for concrete bit and some concrete lag bolts to hold her in place. Thx for the video.
I have a different kind 12x10 gazebo basically a sunjoy type wood with steel roof. Hasn't moved not even in 80+ mph winds been up year now. Yardistry ones built even better and heavier my boss has 2 and they're not anchored don't even move a bit heavy as heck.
Good job and very informative video. I took a different route after reading the instructions I realized all the real work putting this thing together is in getting the roof panels put together tight and square. Though I grew in my career from assembly of CAT scanner to machining B1B bomber components to a mechanical engineer, the instructions for the roof panel are a nightmare and in some places provide directions out of order. Also, these panels have many components each of which must be oriented correctly - as you discovered - or you end up with a out of square or mis-matched assembly. The end result of the entire roof assembly is more like an overly complicated bamboo roof than one made of 2 X 6"'s - you would certainly not be able to climb on top to do any maintenance. The end result if all you need is shade for an outdoor porch is adequate and attractive. Would I do it all over again. Depends on the price point. I've seen these in several sizes go on sale as low as $1,100 which is a done deal. At $2,100 you might consider building one from scratch as it would be a straightforward 4 pillared roof though probably require a building permit. I ended up having to get a building permit to install this unit anyway due the concern about the correct mount of the pillars to a foundation heavy enough to withstand a 110 mph wind. I'm a Wynne BTW
hey man. awesome video. just bought this last Saturday and will start putting it together here soon. I got it for 1499.99 on 4/6/19 and went back to Costco on 4/11/19 to buy some stuff i needed and it was on sale for 1299.99. so check it out and maybe get some money back while you are at it. They gave me the difference back. Also. I have the same strips of lights and now you gave me a great idea and will be changing out the light bulbs as well.
Great job man, you're rightfully proud of it! Thanks for the tips! I'm also looking to put up the frame and assemble the roof panels by myself before calling help for the final step - putting them up (it looked super easy in your case). ;) Have a great time under that beauty!
Thank you so much! Got half way to putting this together & really needed help with the roof part. What a nightmare!!!!! Gonna finish putting this together tomorrow with the help of this video. 🙂
Great tips and a nice finish. But, is that thing "free-standing"? Dang, I know you have wind protection from the house side, but where I live it gets extremely windy. Even there I'd drill down and atch to the concrete pad. Tip, put some Rustoleum epoxy, with paint chips on your concrete slab; will make it look ten times better (I'd caulk that big crack first and let the epoxy hide it). Thx
Thank you for the great video! So glad you pointed out the potential pitfalls. I'm still trying to figure out how I'm gonna get the roof lifted onto the frame.
drive right into the parking lot of Home Depot and pick up two day laborers for $80 / day. After the 30 minutes of work, drop them off at the bus depot. Done.
Awesome job. But are you going to put a gutter on the island of the roof that goes to your house? When it rains water will pour down to your foundation.
awesome video, and awesome tips thanks, i have mine waiting for me in boxes, are you concerned the rain water would pour towards the house or are you installing any gutter system?
Thank you for sharing your efforts and insights. We offer these additional comments not as critique but inspiration. Be at Peace. 1) Cement slabs should be level and sealed prior to new additions.A scuff goat of Portland painted on and textured would insure limited water pooling; 2) We saw another comment say the structure will need gutters since you built so close to your house. Probably yes, for as the water runs off the roofs [house and gazebo] it forms and runs in its own channel unless directed by you and the gutters; 3) We sincerely hope all reading this comment know we fully encourage independent efforts and construction at 50+ years of working with wood, concrete and construction our last suggestion is that you carefully ensure and know the building codes of your area! It is very important for all DIY'ers to realize systems are put in place sometimes not to help your efforts but to contract and "professionalize" the work. Where we live there is an 'Association' that must review all outside planning prior to the build and that's not even the building inspectors! Good Luck, keep up the Good Work, and Much success to you and your family.
I’m watching these because I’ve got this beautiful little house I want that could get me into real estate and it’s a fixer upper to me because the interior is from 1973 so yeah lots of upgrades I say little but it’s huge That’s what she said
How are you draining the side of the roof closest to the house? Are you putting in a gutter? Looks like water would drain right on to your window and siding.
I think it will be big enough, as a matter of fact, I think it will be a little too big if I was to covert this into a bbq cook shack but I’ve seen many different set ups for this gazebo
Anyone know if this gazebo would be big enough to modify into a BBQ shack? Was thinking maybe it would do with some half Walls on the sides, and bar wall up front
2+ years later still enjoying mine, this video helped a lot, only thing I'll add is if one is planning to stain or paint it, do it before assembling especially the top section, then touch up any blemishes upon completion.

We are going into our 5th year and it still hold up nice. Also great advice on painting before assembling. 😄

Where did you get the shades from? Pass the info please
It took him a few days I'm sure. I did it in two days with a helper.
r Ochoa hahaha that’s what I told my husband, but then when he looked into it it said he would need 4-6 people to help with putting up the roofs. 🤣
Costco should be glad you posted this video. It really is helpful. Will watch as I begin the project.
Thanks. Good luck
That gazebo looks huge compared to all the ones I’ve seen, looks great. I can’t believe you did it most of the work yourself. awesome job!
What's so hard to believe? He literally just screw pre-cut lumber together. There are people who literally built 2 story houses on youtube alone.
Yes Derek, but I would never be able to build it myself and how many of us can do a 2 story home, so I think it’s impressive.
This gazebo is very time consuming a lot of pieces that aren't necessary for a non snowy area it's nice though
excellent video! You did a great job of showing a real rendition of the build. You save me and a whole lot of others some serious build time. thanks!
I just purchased a lot of open lands and didn't plan to build for a while. The Costco 12 x 14 Yardistry Pavilion will have to do for now. Good work! Thanx!

Don Wynn - Thanks a lot for taking time to record and share this. I'm buying one this weekend & this will be a great help.
Make sure and check if you need a permit?
Your pain is our gain bro. That’s why we make these videos, so that we all learn from them.
If you remember, which box has the instructions in it. Want to know which boxes get opened in order. Thanks.
@@richardbennick3120 i honestly cannot remember what box they were in, i was too excited to get started on it and just started going at it. Good luck
What I liked best is how your friends came to help with the easy part of assembling the benches.
Thank you for mentioning your mistakes. I’m sure I would have done all those things if you didn’t talk about it. Appreciate it!!!
Glad i watched this video. Im about to assemble mine but has yet to read the booklet. This for sure will save me a lot of headaches. And others as well.
Outstanding job. They should pay for your video. We have last years model and I looked for a videos but none were as good as yours. Great job
setofirons
I have a question for you,
Did you ask permission to set this up and did your town building code allow this to be set up?

Bought this pavilion last year and was unable to get it built until today. Finally finished. Thanks for video and notes. Your a go getter, keep up it up dude. Now I am going to BBQ artichokes this weekend.

Great job. Mistakes are part of the learning process. You corrected it and it looks great. The benches do a great job anchoring everything!
Thank don Wynn I just got two delivered today and am totally relieved I can do this on my own. I will be using a socket attachment on my cordless impact drill to speed it up a bit
Chris k that’s awesome.
NICE. Three Friends appear at the end for ground work. HAHA
Thank God you found your mistake with roof before you had put it up! BEAUTIFUL JOB💯👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Great effort mate, now just waiting to see where your bar and 75” flat screen goes 👍🏻👍🏻
thank you so much, i will be building mine this weekend, i purchased two and will place them back to back. your video gave me a real good look of what to do and what no t to do, thank you again

Thanks for the tips. 500k views means 500k saved headaches. Hope you have been enjoying your gazebo. Ours is going up as we speak!
Thanks for the kind comment. We love our gazebo. I’m sure you’ll enjoy yours.

Excellent video...Excellent job..thank you!!Planning to incorporate running electrical wire, installing two outlets and a ceiling fan to mine.
Love the fact tha he is showing his mistakes. Great vid
This looks way bigger than the one I see in Costco. I want one one but husband doesn’t want to put it together. So I’ll keep waiting. Great job !!!! Learned a lot
cjamzbrn1 it wasn’t hard, a little time consuming
Wish things like this were available sooner, built a 15x35 pergola with 2x2 slats on top out of rough sawn cedar for 2k about 7 years ago.
Don, you are a Rock Star! Looks great!! Now I am feeling better about getting this same model and making it happen. Thanks for sharing!
looks absolutely stunning iam on my way to costco to purchase one, ive been wanting to add this to my backyard to have a relaxing spot on the weekend again good job
I just purchased one from Costco. There are sold out here in the Indianapolis area.
Good job bro, I like how all your buddies show up when all the hard works done😂that would be me
😂
Very smart installation! Now it wont just protect you from sun, it will also wash you house wall each time it rains!!!
Thanks for the video. I purchased mine last week!
Thank you brother for sharing your thoughts and most of all thank you so much for your honesty 👍
I like how everyone came out to help after the fact 🤣
"Had no help so I did it alone" I felt that
Thanks for making the video. I did notice that you positioned the roof to shed water towards your windows and foundation. You might want to reposition or setup a collection diversion system with gutters and such. If it’s a cold environment, you could also have ice sliding into your windows when a thaw starts. Cheers.
Thanks for taking the time to take the video and post it. How hard was it to put on the roof?
I just finished building mine. I think i will do the same as you with lighting. It looks way beter with 2 50fts of string light than 1.
Thanks for the tips, just finished mine yesterday. For sure you need a minimum of three people for the roof though.
Looks great but I would be very concerned with moisture issues from rain coming off of the roof and hitting the side of your house. Keep an eye on the window and foundation.
A good idea might be to put a gutter along the house side of the pavilion and route the water away from the house.
Too bad I th dodnt fit the other way.
I was just looking at that. Stucco is notorious for soaking in water
Way to go! Thanks for sharing that video...most likely going to do the same shortly, appreciate all that info!!!
Hard to believe still standing since not anchored to the concrete. Small investment for concrete bit and some concrete lag bolts to hold her in place. Thx for the video.

Awesome job. Thanks for the inspiration. I'm looking forward to building mine next spring.
Excelente video and amazing one man work. Fantastic job done.
I ended up having to get a building permit to install this unit anyway due the concern about the correct mount of the pillars to a foundation heavy enough to withstand a 110 mph wind. I'm a Wynne BTW
Too late for that, had to keep moving!!! Love it!!!
😃
Nice work dude! Actually, I would like to know how you get the roof panel on the frame...like Thanos just a snap?
hey man. awesome video. just bought this last Saturday and will start putting it together here soon.
Thanks. I’ll be making a trip to Costco soon as I can. Hope the video can help.
Great job man, you're rightfully proud of it! Thanks for the tips! I'm also looking to put up the frame and assemble the roof panels by myself before calling help for the final step - putting them up (it looked super easy in your case). ;)
Have a great time under that beauty!
I realize Im kinda randomly asking but does anybody know a good place to watch new movies online ?
@Brayan Canaan Flixportal :)
@Russell Leland Thanks, signed up and it seems to work =) I appreciate it !!
@Brayan Canaan Glad I could help :)
Thank you so much! Got half way to putting this together & really needed help with the roof part. What a nightmare!!!!! Gonna finish putting this together tomorrow with the help of this video. 🙂
Good job guy.....hope you are enjoying the gazebo.....
Love that you made this video....BUT how did you get the roof up alone? I may have to do this bymyself, so I would very much like to know...
Great job, best video I saw on youtube in regards to building this Gazebo
Mile Bouri Thanks. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Dang bro, you did a good job, that looked hard as hell
Looks like you had lots of help getting those roof panels up there once complete.
Great tips and a nice finish. But, is that thing "free-standing"? Dang, I know you have wind protection from the house side, but where I live it gets extremely windy. Even there I'd drill down and atch to the concrete pad. wwaynemcg sounds like a great idea 👍🏻
Thank you for sharing your mistakes. This is how we learn!
Is the roof noisy when hit by rain drops in rainy weather?
Great tips, Thanks! Liked the music too
Great video! Just purchased mine!
Done.
Thanks for the suggestion. But the roof is already on thanks to some good friends.
Nice job. I liked the slick bench. Which lighting string did you buy? Liked and Subscribed.
Good job man, congrats 🍾🎉🎊🎈
Awesome job. But are you going to put a gutter on the island of the roof that goes to your house? When it rains water will pour down to your foundation.
Faith Less I thought the same thing....
only thing i could fault too was dont bring water to the house i would have reversed the pitch other than that good job
do you have plan drawn up for the bench? thanks
The one with side roof is 200% harder, I thought that's the same one. But all in all good job!!!
Great Job.. Looks fantastic. Your helpful hints were just that...Helpful.
awesome video, and awesome tips thanks, i have mine waiting for me in boxes, are you concerned the rain water would pour towards the house or are you installing any gutter system?
Hi, I think I will be installing gutters soon
How did you add that wood that the lights are on
Thank you for sharing your efforts and insights. We offer these additional comments not as critique but inspiration. I’m watching these because I’ve got this beautiful little house I want that could get me into real estate and it’s a fixer upper to me because the interior is from 1973 so yeah lots of upgrades
I say little but it’s huge
That’s what she said
Great Job. Started mine today.
Sean Ware awesome...it’s worth the work
@@don_wynn that was an ass kicker..lol
How are you draining the side of the roof closest to the house? Are you putting in a gutter? Looks like water would drain right on to your window and siding.
Do you think this pavilion is large enough to convert into a cook shack? Was thinking I could add half Walls to it, and bar top up front
I think it will be big enough, as a matter of fact, I think it will be a little too big if I was to covert this into a bbq cook shack but I’ve seen many different set ups for this gazebo
@@don_wynn awesome, I plan on putting 4 grills in it. thanks so much for the quick reply
Thanks for the tips, the square, predrill and overhang really helped out,
excellent video and advice! how is it holding up a year and a half later?
Still in great shape
Beautiful job well done. We’re planning on doing this project in the near future. Wish us luck!
Good luck. You guys will be fine 👍🏻
Looks really nice. That thing is a monster !! Its huge .
Anyone know if this gazebo would be big enough to modify into a BBQ shack? Was thinking maybe it would do with some half Walls on the sides, and bar wall up front
Nice but doesn’t flow with the house at all
4 Low wattage led floods..genius idea!
Thanks...still working like a champ!!
Good job...
Nice back yard!!💪👌👍
Ab3 __ thanks
