    In the military (long time ago)
    We would rub mink oil or cream on our boots then heat it up with a blow dryer to melt the oil into the leather.

    I really like your videos 👍. The Red Wing shoe cream is great for brown shoes. I use it on my 8085's. They are now 3 years old and they are getting more comfortable the older they get. But they are getting darker. But it is a beautiful brown colour. I don't think there is anyway to avoid that. It's just how leather reacts over time. But it is also giving them character. I agree they are not the warmest boots you can get, but with some nice wool socks, you'll be fine.

      I appreciate your kind words and feedback. The 8085s looks sick, I may get them as a second pair. I have played with thicker socks and it does make the boot warmer. Have a great day!

    I use that same cream on my RWs. It seems a little darker at first but within a few days it returns to normal. And yes you should hydrate your leather when new. Nice boots!

      On average about once a month or less when I’m wearing them. I don’t wear them much in the summer, so I don’t condition them. When they get too scuffed up is when I condition them, since the red wind conditioner doesn’t darken them that much.

    You should use a toothbrush to put the oil on with. It’s much easier and efficient. Just not the one you use to brush your teeth 😃. I have the exact ones, but I’m not gonna wear them in snow or when it’s cold. I’ve got dedicated boots for that. Great boots, and the break in was not bad. I’ve worn them daily for about 5 months now. Nice video. Enjoy your boots.

      I’ll give it a try. Just have to make sure I don’t get it mixed up with my regular toothbrush 🤣. Thanks for the feedback!

    The shoe tree helped minimal bend on toebox, preventing it to be like clownish boots which you can often see in pictures of a worn Iron Ranger boots.

    I love Iron Ranger boots . But as much as I love them , I also hate them. I guess you can say I have a love-hate relationship with them. The reason being that it’s been so difficult for me to find a pair of IR with minimal irregularities. Each pair I’ve purchased and returned has had several irregularities at once ywhich I’ve found difficult to ignore. I am talking about different cap-toe sizes, colors or even textures. Loose grain on the vamp is very common on the R & T copper IR boots among other things. My current pair’s tongue is off centered which I find annoying. I am tired of exchanging then so I might keep them.

    Are those Amber Harness or Copper Rough & Tough?

  • @richiesbbq
    @richiesbbq 3 года назад +2

    How do they fit? Are they roomy at the toe? How much room did you leave at the toes.?

    • @tommilano5431
      @tommilano5431  3 года назад +3

      They are roomy at the toe, while being snug through the middle of the foot. My first pair was a 10.5, and it was squeezing my toes. The 11s are just right. I would say they should be snug around the middle and ankle at first and roomy enough to wear a nice thick wool sock at the toe. I have more than 1/2 an inch length at the toe.

      @@tommilano5431 yes definitely helped thanks. Red Wing says I wear a 9.5 but I've bought 2 pair in the past size 9 in the roughnecks and a black pair of iron rangers in rough and tough. The rough and tough are comfortable now but were hard to break in but I dont see wearing a thick sock with them. The roughnecks forget it I've hardly broken them in and cant sell them I've tried. I have three others the black harness and the copper rough and tough iron rangers and a pair of black Beckman all in 9.5 and they fit with more room and are better in the toe area than the size 9. I always joke with the salesman about Red Wing making a size 9.25 just for me. Thanks for your help.

      @@richiesbbq lol I'm in the same boat, and have laughed to myself thinking how perfect a 9.25 IR would be. I ended up opting for the 9.5 for thicker socks. The 9 was pinching a toe for me on my left foot in the front, otherwise I would have gone with those but not sure if I could've worn thicker socks with those with how tight they felt. I wear 10.5 for everything else on my regular shoes.

    Great video on taking care of your RWs, I'm a big Heritage fan, and am buying a pair of 8085s in two weeks. What's your opinion on Iron Rangers for daily work wear? I tried them on at my local RW store last week and decided they're my next buy.

    • @tommilano5431
      @tommilano5431  3 года назад +1

      They take a long time to break in. It was about 4 months before I could wear them all day on my feet without any issues. The footbed has to mold to your foot. If you are okay with going through that, then they’ll work great for you!

      @@StolenAlias You must condition the leather to get an easier breaking period. Also because you don't know how much time, or in what conditions, those boots spend stored.

    • @StolenAlias
      @StolenAlias 3 года назад +2

      @@gasaul5759 conditioning them to make them easier to break in isn’t necessary. I’ve broken in 7 pairs of red wings with 0 pain or discomfort, they aren’t that bad. Then again my feet are different than yours. Also the tag says in the bottom right when the boots were made and depending on how long that was they were probably stored in the box the whole time.
