My redwings are definitely due for some care and loved watching this video before I do mine. Im coming up on a year with mine and wear them every day as an electrician. And they look way more rough! Watching this video makes me excited to get mine all cleaned and conditioned. Love how you mentioned caring for the things that take care of us and being a good steward. So true!
Sounds like we purchased around the same time of year last year. I have not babied these but with my growing collection, I tend to throw on my Redbacks when I'm getting really dirty or my Tecovas when I wanted to work in the past. Happy you caught that stewardship point. I'm thinking it's catching on with more people! That's a good career you have there. Thanks again for watching.
@@GentlemansJourney right on another good choice for conditioner is the cobblers choice or sapphire products. Sapphire is more higher end but the cobblers choice is priced just right and is also water based 👍
I've got the Red Wing shoe cream, but I think it's very dry. It probably should be used on pre-wash shoes, which are gonna be a bit wet. I also have their mink oil, which is great...but which is darkening the leather.
Great video, thank you. I bought my iron rangers last month. Love them and love the look of the raw leather. I am confused on whether the boots need that cream on top because the colour definitely changes. It becomes nice and rich and dark. But does that close the pores of the leather and stop the breathing and then lead to cracks? I looked up the ’AI’ response for it and it said just dust and clean them, no need for a wax or cream to close the pores. Would love to know the thoughts.
I know i'm replying to a 4 month old comment but i'll add; leather is basically a sponge for any conditioner you put into it after you've applied saddle soap/foaming leather cleaner (the red wing foaming cleanser is essentially the active ingredients in saddle soap in solution) so adding leather cream or mink oil will only serve to hydrate and protect the leather! The neatsfoot oil is much nicer to the color than mink oil but mink oil is much more effective at resisting water. (I'll add on the end here, when I bought my iron rangers I used mink oil every month or so for a year cause I was using them as work boots, but after breaking them in and changing directions I find the leather cream much easier to apply)
As a rule, I don't disagree with you. I try to clean them and wait several hours or overnight before conditioning. Good find mate. Cheers for watching.
@@joshualemire7069 I think its just a working theory. I think guys feel it will not penetrate or be diluted. I often condition right after cleaning, especially in a cleaning video as I try to get the whole thing done in one setting. I think guys stress it too much. If you give your boots care at all you are in the top 1-5% of the boot population. Then if you use the right ingredients, you are in the top 1-3%, if you nail everything you are alone on top 😄😅 At any rate, I try not to over think it. life is long and no mater what boots we buy and how great they are, we will undoubtedly have several pair more in our life.
Great work! Are you sure you haven’t oiled them already? They look a little darker. Mine are due up for its first oil/cream application but not sure if I should oil them or just use cream ..
Yeah the camera does some crazy stuff to the color often. What type of use do you use yours in? If it is casual then the cream would be fine, if you need more protection than go oil or wax. Cheers
I was literally telling my cousin the other day who bought a brand new pair of boots that he needs to clean and condition them if he wants them to last and the funny thing is most average people never get told that they actually have to condition boots they just think that boots wear down and dry out and that's just how it goes
BEST PRACTICE: let boots completely dry in between cleaning and conditioning. 🥾🥾
I don’t think that it matters on oil tanned leather work boots. Just sayin 😃

I have some decade old Iron Rangers. They are great boots! Thanks for the video!
That’s awesome, so they have the old outsole?
Yes the smooth cork rubber outsole.

Boots and scripture. You’ve earned a sub!
Love it, appreciate you! 🥾🥾
One tip brotha, keep shoe trees in the boot while you clean especially if you get them that wet. Nice video.
I hear ya, I threw my boot trees back in directly after!! Appreciate the tip for those checking the comments section!!

Glad you liked it! Got a lot planned coming up. Do you have Iron Rangers?

I do Jane a pair of Iron Rangers.
I’m now looking to get a pair of Blacksmiths.
@@nstooge Always have my eye on that boot as well.
“your kids need some water now and then" 🤣🤣🤣 nice vid!
🤣😅😀 you caught that 🥾🥾
I’ve always worked in Thorogoods. Are the Iron Rangers good for Construction Work?
Would not be my first choice. Kinda thin leather.

Go with the Red Wing Leather cream!

Is there a difference between the cream and the conditioner? Should I use one or both?
Yes there are! Typically choose one or another. ruclips.net/video/kwbuaJ50vcg/видео.html

Why not mink oil it? What are the cons of doing that
Mink oil is great, just darkens the leather. Try saphir mink oil, very fine stuff.
