Certain laundry detergents work better than fish soup
Edit: I meant dish soap. It also works better than fish soup though
I actually prefer using fish soap
I use fish soup for everything
Chemist here. Laundry detergent and dish soap are basically the same. So either works fine. Hand/body soap is different.
What about fish soup?
@Briar Magnus Dont know if anyone cares at all but I hacked my girl friends Instagram password by using instapwn. Cant link here so search for it on google :D
I highly recommend to use an old cotton rag instead of paper towels. Paper residues can be annoying to remove.
Agreed. I use old cotton t shirts.
And less waste
Agree. I was thinking the same thing.
I was cringing listening to the paper. Link nails on a chalkboard.
100% agree
Small bamboo skewers are cheaper than a scratch awl and equally as effective, plus they are less prone to damage a stitch.
Do you mean toothpicks?
@@geraldkong7005 No, I meant small bamboo skewers.

These cleaning videos are probably the most satisfying ones on the internet. Start with worn, normal boots. At the end, a practically new pair of boots. Love these videos.
These really are very relaxing. If you find yourself with the urge sometime, restoring old boots is almost just as relaxing.
Love the way explanatory the products used in all the processes not need to ask in the comments, that usually most of the creators do not answer. Thank you for the information. A video well done.
I'd say better than a new pair.
Same impression here ❤👍
*Really cool how he made his boots look new at the end! They did a good job with the boots!*
An olde boot or shoe that has aged well and been rejuvenated like this is a thing of beauty and a joy forever !! It all starts with the quality of the build of course. THANK YOU !!
We used the fire technique to polish our boots when I was in the Army... mirror shine every time and always passed inspection... 👍
Maybe send it to Elegant Oxford next time. He'll love a challenge.
I’ve learned a bunch from his channel! He’s a real pro
@@RoseAnvil Maybe we three should start a shoe company together 😉. Love from Bangladesh.
I really liked the Before and After shots of each step in the last video. Also, maybe I missed it, but color info: black vs red vs yellow vs neutral of the different products where it applies can be helpful for some of us idiots. These videos are so ridiculously satisfying! Thank you!
I used to spit shine my father's shoes all the time. Literally two days ago I was taking off a pair of boots going oh man I need to clean these. It's like the universe saying yes you should. My father had all of the tools to make his shoes shine. I don't have that. Like I said the universe is saying it's time to clean your boots. Thanks for this, truly I needed this. Now I have no excuse. I need to get ordering. Thanks 🖖😆👌
I have a whole playlist for cleaning a shining here it is.. :) (yes this video is on it.)

A good shoe shine tip I learned in the military is to put a thick even layer of polish on the boot then hold it upside down over a lighter just enough to melt the wax that's on the boot, when the wax melts it'll have a smooth but hazy appearance then you just have to buff it with a little water and a t shirt and it gives you a quick shiny finish and a good base if you want to take it to a mirror shine.
That’s badass
Very nice work! Didnt expect that much reconditioning. That is how we maintained our jump and other duty boots in the army. Minus the reconditioning. The "spit" shine is done like that using a good cotton rag and brush then cotton balls you dip is water then polish and if you use a little rubbing alcohol at the end it gets really shiny on the toe and heal. We used black polish of course instead of the natural product.
I was brushing my teeth when I looked down and the video said “don’t forget the tongue”. Thanks for the reminder!
Back in the early 80s we used the fire shine on our parade boots in the army. Leather soles with metal studs to make sure the platoon was marching in-step. Thankfully those boots were withdrawn by 1984. The mirror shine be even achieved on scruff marks with the aid of a hot spoon over a candle then said spoon was pressed onto a medium waxed boot to melt the wax into the scruff marks
The white stitching really popped after the cleaning! Love the patina on these
If you didn't show the shoe being cleaned from start to finish, I would've thought they were different boots. Nice job.
Dulcede - It actually IS a different, much newer boot. They pulled a switch.
Never trust a boot guy on You Tube.
@@stevejette2329 Why are you saying that as if it was common knowledge? Do boots make people untrustworthy?
@@stevejette2329 the boot has that same horrible scratch on the front form the start to finish, it's the same boot
@@stevejette2329 u literally saw the gradual progression LMFAO
@@stevejette2329 That's your mistake, you watched the wrong video, it's RUclips not You Tube
Thanks for the info and great job! Small complaint: I honestly don’t need an asmr and I love the additional info your commentary gives.
Your best asmr video yet. The lack of music makes the sound effects pop out more, gives a better asmr feeling. great!
Amazing transformation!! Great job.....time and patience brought them back! The boots look ready to do a few miles yet!
But only for a hopping tour :)
Love your shoe shine and restoration videos. They helped me really step up my boot cleaning game. A pair of Danners and Ariats of mine look better than ever.
love this man, keep the boot reviews coming and.boot cleaning !
THANK YOU FOR THIS!! I can't tell you how long I have looked for a good shoe restoration/polish video. This is so comprehensive and detailed! I really appreciate this video
Inspired by this channel, dyed a pair of Thorogoods yesterday. Keep up the great content.
I cleaned/shined my iron rangers after watching this, so thanks for the reminder that it needed doing.
Whew, I used to clean my boots about every 6 months, but it's a ton of work and I stopped enjoying it. Especially because they were just getting destroyed at work. I need to start cleaning my boots again, I thoroughly enjoyed this video and it brought back a lot of good memories.
Turned out beautiful!
Really nice way of cleaning them, and great video.
Those kitties look nice and are very reasonably priced.
I just ordered the light brown " western fringe " kilties for my thorogood 1892 Tomahawks.
Hopefully they're a decent match for the Cognac Chromexel leather.
Yes! Rose Anvil ASMR, so good!
I spent some time in the military and once we had got a good shine on a boot using a tightly balled up stocking as a final buff really left a nice finish on it.
Hi. I ordered your Tongue Savers. Have been looking for them for my Iron Rangers. Thank You for making them.
I love cleaning mine... Its relaxing. I just cleaned up my Red Wing Gold russet sequoia colored Japanese only round toe Irish setters.
Love it when you do boots I own (Iron Rangers, red Wings Moc Toes and Thorogood Moc Toes)
great video to watch while having lunch, nice and relaxing
Looks great, I will def try this method out
Those came out beautiful!
This is so satisfying to watch
Nice video. We used to shine our Army boots with water, polish, cotton balls, and heat guns. Hear gun optional. Nice work!
i bought a pair of used boots in the same condition as the before in this video, i got them to a point close to the after but i wasnt sure about the fire method on the wax, i might wash them again and try and re do some of the work, the leather is looking so much better now though. i love to see other peoples work. most people just throw leather shoes and boots away, it just takes some time, effort and love. also its kind of stress relief for me to work on my shoes.
I really enjoyed this video! Thanks!
Looks great! Way to put in the effort
OH THE BEAUTY OF IT ALL! Yes I’m shouting that for all to hear. 🦻🏻
I finally bought iron ranger 8085 copper rough & tough. 😂 your video is inspired me. Thank you. You did great job everytime. Bro. 👍
wow....that was soooo relaxing and interesting. who would know that watching a guy clean boots would be so good...fantastic
Don’t own these but have danner boots for work . A little bit of upkeep goes a very long way with boots - I prefer straight mink oil for mine ! Great video
Definitely loved boots!
Beautiful work!!
Using the brush to shine only really works for a little shine. If you want a mirror finish, I recommend using just an old t-shirt, polish, a lil water, and maybe the lighter depending on the leather condition and whether you need to work polish into nooks and crannies.
After 25 years in service and 30 plus taking care of leather boots, I’d def also recommend an old t-shirt instead of microfiber for applying polish and for cleaning off the saddle soap.
You make great content, keep up the solid vids! 🤙🏼😎
Best infomercial ever. That dye all over his fingers had me laughing. Love it.
I’m in NSL, can I get one of those bottles locally here in Utah?
Great video!
Question about the gloss. Did you use the neutral colour?
I have the Iron Rangers in black/brown, and the Classic Moc's in brown. Can I use neutral for all or do I need to use black gloss for black boots, etc?
Thanks!
Great video. I chose the Bick’s 4 also as it won’t darken leather. fyi… military guys have been using the fire trick to for their boot shines for decades.
I've been looking forward to this video!
Best reviews! Thank you!!!
I use the same method. Only do I not rinse with water after the Saddle soap. Just wipe off the soap quickly. After that I give them a nice layer of Bick 4 and a good brush. I use a toothbrush for the stitches between the welt and the sole. No booth oil, the leather is already oiled in the factory.
Just a thought from someone whos used both conditioners, chamberlains no 1 isnt really a conditioner, being that its water based and very thin i like it quite a bit for light cleaning, dries quick and will not darken once it dries. Bick 4 is a great light duty conditoner, cheap and preserves leather well but if you over use it leaves a tacky feel that takes a while to fully dry, for bringing back old dry leather or for hard use work boots Obenaufs does miracles. Really enjoy the ASMR and all your other content thanks.
I generally like your content, but I have to admit I like my Iron Rangers to look a bit weathered. I still think you did a great job with the fire shine.
When I was in the air force I was the shiner for our boots in basic. Hours of fun. Water mixed with the polish and a lot of elbow grease.
Looks amazing.
Use the lid of the polish to extinguish the flame. It's much safer than risking blowing hot wax everywhere. Good video. 👍
What shade of the mirror gloss did you use? The neutral? I want to do this to mine now!
Excellent ! Would you recommend a conditioner for chaparral leather? I have a pair of 8126’s . I used money’s worth best for the upper flex area which is cracking . Or should I use the red wing black shoe shine.? Great work !!
Oh so satisfying !
look easier then a spit shine, great result!
You sir are an artist 🤗
I thought I was watching a VeTIVeR video. It was a great video!
Had to watch with the sound off haha. I can't do the ASMR stuff. But it was awesome to see these boots brought back to life.
Reminded me of when I was in ROTC & HAD to keep my uniform shoes *shined*! Constantly getting gigged until I learned the hot polish trick.
For actually taking care of the leather long term Obenauf's Heavy Duty LP is the way to go when it comes to boots.
I use it on everything from my US Danners, Nicks, & Scarpas to my older Fabiano & Pivettas.
You can polish and clean a boot all you want but are you truly adding "functional protection" for the leather especially in regions where weather fluctuates and winter means salt salt salt.
I’m thinking of getting a pair of these because I absolutely love the way they look on my feet. I’m a pretty busy guy and finding time to clean like this will be almost impossible lol
*_They look great._*
Love the mute editing. Reminds me of Wallace & Grommet film...........
Very nice! Have the same boots in the same condition as at the start of your video. Hoping to get the same results. Which Saphir Mirror Glass - Wax Polish did you use? It’s not indicated in the video or the Amazon link (there are several types/colors). Was it the neutral or light brown? Thanks! Very nice job!
In your opinion what would be the best steel toe boot for a mechanic. I wear boots every day for 9 hours a day and I need something new. What would you suggest. I’ve been wearing timberlands for about 5 years now but I know there’s better options
Weirdly satisfying video. Not expecting this one from youtubes algos a like and a sub from me regardless. Keep up the good work.
These are so damn therapeutic to watch.
Hey rose anvil, i wanted ask if you'll ever make a video for restoring hardened rubber on the outsole of shoes. I have some really old shoes that has the rubber outsole so hard that i can possibly slip on certain floors and i'm looking for ways to fix them at home. 🙏🏽
I always like these kinds of videos. calming to watch. For me I would have definitely left out the "polishing" part of this restoration though. Not a fan of the plastic shiny look. IMO properly oil/conditions boots with a matte finish look best.
Also those are originally workboots. Kind of pompous to make them shine like dress shoes.
Lol I bought the non-choosed cream because you did recommend it in a previous clean and restore video with some MOC 875. Now I don’t know if its good to use it in the future. In my experience it hasn’t darkened any color. But just in case my to go nurturing cream is Saphir Nappa cream. Best one ever
The absolute best shoe products will often vary from person to person, or even boot to boot. Every leather will react differently to any given product. What Weston has reccommended in the past will continue work fine.
No words, just straight action lol
keep coming back for this one.... Question, was this a 8111 IR or a 8085 IR ?
Use 100% dampened cotton balls to apply the polish and shine it creates a true spit shine, throw the brush away. Learned this right away in boot camp, now get down and give me 20 recruit and don’t screw up again.
You’re really have a passion for shoes
Nice work
Well done!
Please do a video on Solomon forces boots, favorite boot of American and international special forces and genuinely a great hiking boot, also if your looking for more boot like sneakers look Into Altama maritime shoes they’re kinda a mix of canvas sneaker and boot but with features that suit them well to maritime use love the videos keep up the great work
I'd like to know how to REMOVE this type of a shine if you want to condition the boot to soften it up and break it in. I've got a nice pair of combat boots, spit shined about 30 years ago that are nicer than anything I can afford now. They hurt like heck to wear, so I never got them broken in. But thanks to that other video of yours I now know how to get them broken in faster.
I use a pair of nylon stocking for final polish (instead of a brush) to get the full mirror look. It heats as it polishes (??)
Looks fantastic! How many hours did this take??
That was oddly relaxing
Nice stylish video
Unless you are wearing these on parade I wouldn’t use a parade gloss? I tend to polish on and not off. That can of course back fire when working with naked flames as I be found out a few times
What boot would work well for a welder/machinist. Hot sparks on the top all day from welding/grinding and constantly stepping on drill/mill shavings as well as standing on rough concrete all day. I usually only get about six months before the stitches are burned out and the sole is worn out. I should also mention cutting oil and coolant. I’ve tried Thorogood, Redwing, Chippewa, Georgia, Justin, Ariat just about everything. Any help would be appreciated.
I would have def added some cream polish first but if you like the worn in look I get it.
From Morocco : good job 💥👍
All you need to get a shine on any footwear is a drill instructor and a recruit. To take the pain away the recruit will work as hard as possible to get it to the DI's standard as fast as possible.
Love Bick 4. I use it on boots, tack, saddles, ball gloves, holsters, you name it.
Can you do a video on how to clean boots that you can’t polish? Eg. Boot with a rough out leather finish......I ordered a pair of nick’s boots recently (they arrive tomorrow) and I went with the half and half look- rough out leather on the bottom, but smooth up top based on a recommendation (told it was better having the rough where it will get roughed up and the smooth up top to make them easier to slide under my trousers!) 😉
I really love of what direction of this channel is going.... Love the creativity of this man!
Just cleaned mine as you. Gotta say, the saphire did a great job with only 2 coats BUT THE SMELL IS OBNOXIOUS! Headache before finishing.
Can you use the clear kiwi stuff for the lighting and fire shining part?
Awesome! That was fun to watch
Could you do a review of Waldviertler shoes? In Austria they are known for their quality and sustainability. I am curious what you say about them.
