As a 52 years old french guy, I used nearly all Saphir products including outdoor and « medaille d’or » for more than 35 years. Not being patriotic at all, these are excellent care products. The oiled leather cream comes in natural and does a good job on Copper R&T like RW neatsfoot one. CRT being nucbuck it is safer to use RW foam cleaner or Saphir « Omni’daim/Omni nettoyant » than saddle soap. These are milder and won’t get rid of the oils contained in CRT but won’t clean the black stains like the ones on the heel counters or front toes. There is a tradeoff in any process. I would have let them dry overnight before conditioning in order to not trap water in the nubuck. Thanks for sharing your enthousiasm and knowledge. I too apreciate the pressure relief provided by shoe caring on weekends.
Great advice, thank you. I recently bought a pair of used CRT’s, loving their patina, I’d hate to change them in any way so I’ve been learning before doing anything. Cheers.
You’re right there are so many self proclaimed leather experts out there. They even try to correct the real leather expert’s lol. I say do your thing and if it works it works. If it doesn’t try something else. Thanks for taking the time to show us your method of cleaning. Very informative.
I appreciate you watching and the encouraging comment! Just got back from a trip to Maine and ended up going on the beach and hiking some trails. I'm glad I protected them before I left because that salt/sand cant be the leathers friend.... have a good one!
I totally enjoy your videos. Always interesting, informative, entertaining, and relaxing. Thank you for taking the time to make the videos. God bless you today and always.
Heard a lot of good things on Hubbards. I wonder if that shine is like what the Venetian Shoe Cream does. The Red Wing Leather Cream did not necessarily leave a shine quite like the Venetian did. Appreciate you watching.
I have a couple pairs of the Irish Setter Wing Shooter mock toe boots I wear as my work boots. I’ve had the soles replaced with Vibram lug soles. It made a good boot a great boot. I haven’t tried the Redwing conditioner. I clean them every week using Saddle soap and Saphir leather renovateur conditioner. It seems to work really well.
Hi there Ed! Sounds like you ended up with some solid boots there with the resole! Sounds like your conditioning routine is working well. You treat your boots better than most! Do they get dirty enough to need the weekly care? What line of work do you use them with? Trucking? Thanks so much for watching the videos. More coming soon!
@@GentlemansJourney , I deliver heating and cooling equipment. And a lot of times it’s to new construction sites with Dirt lots and sometimes muddy. The dirt likes to dry the leather pretty quickly so I like to clean them every week. It’s something, I really enjoy doing. And it will help keep the boots lasting for a long time.
@@edbigtruck Hey that's fantastic! I reiterate, I'm impressed with your routine. I was in the oil field temporary and the job sites got hectic, very muddy, and always wet. I can relate. Thanks Ed.
@@GentlemansJourney , I want those Redwings you have in video. I just can’t bring myself to spending around $300.00 for them. I do have several pairs of other Redwings.
Awesome video, extremely informative and well researched. For my casual boots I use the red wing foam cleaner and leather cream or all natural conditioner depending on how dry they are. For my work boots I use saddle soap and a heavier waxier conditioner like smiths balm. Wearing my 8061 merchants today.
I just used the all natural conditioner on my work boots (Justin square toe western boots) and I really liked the product. I also use some sno guard stuff on my other work boots that I go out in the snow with. I could definitely see getting some 8061's in the future! Thanks for watching.
Couldn’t agree more, got a video series coming out next and Bick 4 is one that we’re going to cover, hope you catch that one! Thanks for commenting and I’m curious what your run and gun go to boot is? 🥾🥾
Thanks for the video! My routine is saddle soap and then obenaufs. It definitely changes the color but I love the long lasting protection and nourishment it gives
What do you mean brown hands are not a great look!!!??? haha Hey man thanks! You provided all the info I was looking for. Cleaning my Blacksmiths today. Happy New Year!
I'm here in Britain. I've noticed Red Wings are taking off here, now that Timberland boots have declined in quality. I'm looking for a new boot brand. Those Red Wings look great. Are they comfortable?
These guys have been comfortable for me. I would note that they are not padded inside and that Redwing offers a comparable line the Sawmill. The Sawmill would be great for some cold Britain weather! I like the roughneck in summer but now that it's cold here in CO I am needing some winter protection. I think the fashion line of Timberland Boots have taken over their products and weakened the brand a bit. Cheers!
Some people never do, depending on use I guess. However, I’m a huge proponent of leather care. I end every video the same way. God bless and hey, don’t forget to give those boots some love from time to time. 🥾🥾
Hiii !!! Nice vid as usual ^^ Did the natural color of your bots come back after a while ? or did this product darken the boots forever ? ^^ I'm looking for a product that doesnt change the color AT ALL after few days
Did they lighted up? They kinda look a bit darker, Not that that Darker color wasn't nice, but i would prefer original color, that is why I ask if they light up with time? Thanks for sharing and Happy Thanksgiving Today ;o)
They ultimately lightened up a bit but did stay a tad darker than they were. Very fresh look though. Here is a shot of them from my Facebook page. facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=124656129415139&id=101656221715130

Glad you posted this...just got a pair of Iron Rangers in copper 4 days ago. Love them! Looking forward to eventually given them their first bath
So stoked for ya man! 🥾🥾
Got the Red Wing 1907. Finally past the break in....yes it was brutal. Thanks for the video I enjoyed it.
Congrats on that, that's a feat sometimes!! Happy New Year!!
My process almost exactly. The only thing I would add is wash the laces with dish detergent and water once removed and hang them up to dry.
Solid step with the laces!! 🥾🥾
Ha. There it is. I thought I seen them flannels before. I got the same one in orange lol. Love my carhartt clothing
The best!
I really like Hubbard's boot oil. Doesn't change the color of my 8119's, just shines them up nicely. Thanks for great video Brother.

Gentleman's Journey hows that CArhartt flannel fit? Tight? Of more of a loose fit

Redwing Sawmill 2927 today for me. Thanks for the video
