- American television sitcom One on One aired for five seasons on UPN from September 3, 2001, to May 15, 2006. The series was a joint production of the Greenblatt/Janollari Studio and Daddy's Girl Productions in association with Paramount Network Television. It stars Flex Alexander as Flexter Alexander Barnes Washington or simply Flex, former professional basketball player turned sportscaster who works for the fictional WYNX-TV in Baltimore, Maryland. He resides in the ultimate bachelor pad, lives a comfortable lifestyle and is quite the ladies man. All that changes after he become a full-time father when his ex-wife, Nicole Barnes, played by Tichina Arnold, decides to accept a job out of the country and his teenage daughter Breanna Barnes, played by Kyla Pratt, moves in with him.

In my opinion, Spirit is the best teenage sidekick/best friend character in a sitcom. She's just enough out there, so it's believable. She's not so over the top like other sidekicks in other shows, i.e. Kim from Moesha, Jessie from Saved By The Bell, etc.

Completely agree!!! Soulja Boy definitely ushered in this “microwavable internet artist” era that we are still stuck in for the past 15 years..going on 16. It’s horrible and insufferable! R&B and Hip Hop has never been the same since the 90s but at least 2000-2007 was still doin’ it’s thang with it’s experimentive sound. But 2010 to now is just nonsense.

One on One was my jam for real! Those first four seasons, I never missed an episode and looked forward to the next. I loved seeing Arnaz and Breanna together as a couple and love the sisterhood of Breanna and Spirit. Aside from that horrific last season, what annoyed me the most was how they dumbed down Arnaz’s character in the later seasons. I hate when shows do that. I feel the same way with Junior from My Wife and Kids.

Awesome! Was it the backdoor pilot of “Cuts” that you were in? I assume the actors who played the barbers, went to barber college. That was the case with Ice Cube’s movie “Barbershop,” excluding Troy Garity (the token white barber) who already had hair-cutting experience. How ironic since his character, Isaac, had no customers until the end of the movie.

When they bring Ray J on a show it goes downhill it gets canceled they should have stuck with the original cast members instead of bringing in these random people
So he's the downfall of the show. So he's basically a show killer. Let's think about Tve Sinbad Show which he co-starred in before Brandy got famous. The Rickey Smiley Show,Moesha,now One On One. Also don't forget about Love and Hip Hop: Hollywood basically he's a show cancelliation killer.

I loved this show!! It was so cute, but Season 5 was kind of a let down imo. I didn't mind the new friends, but the storylines were kinda meh for me. Maybe that was a sign it was time to cancel it. Also, I liked Spirit's character. She was one of my favorites. Great video!!

This was a great show. As a male it gave so much perspective on how to navigate relationships as a father as opposed to My Wife & kids which has a wife in the mix to help through some things.

What could happen in a reboot
WB was for white viewers, and UPN was for black viewers. UPN merging was more of a takeover. They canceled 90% of the black shows during the merger.

That running joke about Ray J ruining a show is so lame. The show was ruined when they fired the other 3 main characters to just focus on Breanna and Arnaz constantly contemplating about having sex. The storyline and ALL the characters were useless and ruined the show

They actually tried to “save” the show by adding a more diverse cast to get a larger audience and more sponsors . Plus they weren’t kids anymore and the single dad and daughter story line wasn’t working anymore. So they tried, but obviously it didn’t work.

@@LoveUnconditional777 actually it wasn’t. The show was originally about a single father raising his daughter. She grew up and became an adult and the original story line was done. This is what happens with all shows that are based around children. They grow up and it’s not the same anymore. Plus as I said earlier they tried to save the show with a young diverse cast to reach a broader audience. It was a gamble that didn’t work. By the way all the diverse cast members of “In living color” were actually funny. Jim Carey, Kelly Coffield, Alexandra Wenworth, Jay Legget, all standouts. They always had a diverse case it was never just all “black”.

The problem is that when UPN execs tried to bring the show to a new younger audience to test the waters for the upcoming merger, they completely ruined the rare dynamic the series was built on, the single black father raising his daughter. Not only that, they alienated the core audience of the show. How do you expect to add a new audience while losing your foundation?

I kept wondering what happened to this show , and by this show I swear I thought the last two seasons were a completely different entity 😂😂😂😂😂😂that’s how bad it sucked .
This goes for all sitcoms, full on reboots do not make sense. Skipping 20 years is too jarring.
Then to drag/stretch that out for a season, is doomed to fail. A better approach would be a movie or one or two long episodes.
I enjoyed the show from beginning to end! Everyone was funny in their own way .

I watched every episode of this show, but it wasn't the same without Flex, Duane or Spirit. Now I do think Kyla is pretty, but Spirit was too. It came off like a colorism issue. The light skinned girl gets all of the attention while the one who's darker is either rejected or suddenly wanted only after she starts showing skin.
