@@josephtalmadge3108 Yeah it was crazy how much his relationship changed with Johnny and what a big head Johnny got. Once he said it was undignified to meet like that, which obviously also implies it's still fine for a NJ boss, it was clear things were gonna get bad. Sack getting arrested might have saved Tony's life in the long run as Tony would always know Johnny wanted to take out Carmine and just was a schemer by nature. Those talks really showed why Johnny was. The junior ones were almost touching near the end, and fake family concern for one another in the beginning and pure business in the middle. The whole one on one dynamic definitely seems like the best way to learn a lot about a character.
Doctor Melfi was a horrible psychiatrist. Essentially she is Karen Hill from Goodfellas as a medical doctor. Karen was excited to be around Henry since he gave her the gun to hide. Karen liked being around a dangerous man. Doctor Melfi is the same. Doctor Melfi never helped tony confront his underlying problems. Tony could not reconcile his genuine good side with what he did for a living. Tony really wanted to be a good father and a good family man but his psychopathy was too exciting for him. He enjoyed the criminal underworld too much. And he was not unintelligent. Tony could have been successful in anything he undertook. With the exception of his relationship with his mother. Doctor Melfi didn't even really try to help him. She just got him to a point where he could balance his criminality with his family life. I don't think she could have been a good psychiatrist to anybody. Sometimes I think she was the real villain in the series. She didn't have a very good moral compass.
You are right about Dr Melfi. She completely diagnosed Tony's mother without even seeing her once. But on everything else he took the oath to the mafia. In that life the mafia comes before everything including your other family. That's why if you choose this life you shouldn't get married and have kids. This Thing Of Ours and marriage especially with kids doesn't jive.
Dr Melfi I agree was and she diagnosed his mother without even an evaluation but he chose to be a mobster. He took an oath the mafia comes before your real family according to their rules. So nobody was changing Tony and Tony was never gonna turn rat.
Tony can define and perceive himself anyway he wants? But regardless of whatever cohort of society he matches ( introvert/extrovert) he's still sick and shouldn't be without consciousness anytime and Dr Melfi should of called that out.
