Probably the best comparison format I've seen so far. No going back and forth between individual displays or confusing split screen footage (looking at you digitaltrends). I like that you keep them both visible at all time while addressing your points
Just received my G2 from Value Electronics yesterday! Chose the G2 for the gaming features, wall mount, and 5 year panel warranty. Can’t wait to get it set up. Will be using your settings guide once I’m able to get it mounted 👍🏻
I ordered the A80K. Mostly tv, streaming and 4K blu ray for me. Gaming not a big deal for me. Also I’m looking for best out of box performance. Thanks great video
Just exchanged an LG Nanocell for the Sony A80K. The display was nice on LG. But there software is horrible. Had to exchange two of them because of software issues. Thought it might be just an internet issue, but things that were happening was not internet related. Since it was my birthday I exchanged it for a Sony A80K. It is awesome. Display is wonderful. Software works great and fast. Proved it was not my internet and it was an LG software issue. Will not buy a LG tv again. Geek Squad even mentioned software issue with it. Go for Sony.
Hi bro. I’m planning to get A80K as yours . How’s it going so far ? How’s the brightness ? My living room doesn’t have sunlight reflections , just the light bulbs ON. I usually use it for watching sports and gaming .
@@Muhayyo666 I think it does pretty well with brightness. I have it in my bedroom, which gets a lot of light in the afternoon. I see it fine. I was very pleased with the brightness on it. Of course if the sun is shining directly on it, it is difficult to see. Make sure to close the blinds.
Best review I have seen on this platform for the depth of detail and clarity of explanation of the technical settings. I have followed your G2 settings for my 65” and love all sources I now watch which wasn’t the case for the S95B in 55 inch which I had.
I went to Best Buy to look at the G2. They had it away from the others, not even in the Magnolia room and they had dozens if Samsung TV boxes stacked in front if it so couldn't really see it. I went to the main LG wall and watched the C2. I found that the LG demo was mostly dark scenes which is not very good for in an in store with bright lighting. I think they should have displayed some sports events or something other than dark artistic videos. I was not able to watch any Live TV or handle the remote. Very disappointing. I ended up buying one online anyway from them having them do the install. I only hope BB doesn't screw me over. Oh and by the way awesome review. I have been watching a TCL 55" at 13' away. The 77 will be a nice treat for my old and tired eyes.
Best oled comparison review i've seen. Thank you for your honest opinions and detailed information, especially with Motion where most reviewers don't discuss in detail which is ironic because a TV is pictures that move. Fantastic review!
I hate crushed blacks so that would still impell me toward the the Sony. I would want the A80J for the sound. My current LG55B8PUA does well with the sound when I boost the base in the LG's sound settings. Ultimately I want to up grade to a Sony 65A95K--I look forward to your review of it.
EXCELLENT Review man! I really think you have nailed it with this side-by-side format. I am weighing out LG G2 83" vs C2 83" as there is a considerable price difference, with the 83" G2 I heard being under-powered compared to the 77", is there much of a difference between the C2 vs the G2 in the 83" ?
Man this really helped me solidify the G2 . I wouldn’t be able to stand that dimming during gaming. + no HGIG + only 2, 2.1 ports I do like it’s remote & diversity of apps in its smart network but, I’d choose the G2 over the A90J even at this point 👌🏼 Not over the A95K but that’s way to much $$. Plus cheaper to go with 77” G2 vs 65” A95K so.. yeah Thank you!
@@TheAbdID hey! Oh man so, backstory 1st I had the 2016 C6 in which I had upgraded to GX which I felt looked exactly the same. Not a noticeable difference in any regard. Both were also bright enough for me but the G2 has been stunning!! Way more pop it was actually noticeable upgrade and great gaming. I do PC & PS5. It’s bright enough for sure, I’ve moved the tv to a brighter area with lots of natural light and it can still keep up. And that’s that I watch in ISF mode in warm 50 which has lower peak brightness. I game in game mode with HGIG and it’s still great. Since then, I’ve also seen A95K in a home and I notice the grey-ish blacks in the lit room so I’m actually glad I got the G2 over the A95K that would’ve been annoying since I don’t want to always be in a completely darkened room while watching. Anyhow any other questions I’ll be glad to answer! Enjoy!
29:03 Even though LG came really close this year, that clarity still draws me slightly more towards Sony But at same price G2 > A80K / A80J > C2 / C1 I can pick up the 77" A80K for 2200 EUR after Sony Cashback, will likely go that route, unless there is any way to get the G2 at a similar price (unlikely)
Thanks Classy!! Still torn myself tween A90k & C2... as 42" monitor/ content consumption in dark room... and also another tween A90k A80k G2 & C2 55" as monitor / content consumption in well lit music studio!
How do the two compare in black crush / details in dark areas ? That’s a big concern of mine - I’m going for 55 inches . Ps5 gaming and also some 4K DV movies . Thanks
Is it me or was the Sony image stretch out slightly? Was that in order to make it fill the screen without the bars? I personally would rather have the bars then a distorted image. You did a very good job!
I can see most people here saying that the A80K is better for movies and the C2 is better for gaming. Didn’t you all watch the video at all? Classy is clearly recommending getting the C2 over the A80K even if gaming is not a concern. So, basically the two best 77” Oled TV’s are the G2 & the C2 with the A80K coming in 3rd place. The only thing the A80K has over the LGs is its accuracy out of the box.
I've been looking forward to this video. I just recently found out that the C2/G2 don't support DTS audio over eARC, which spoils my audio setup plans. You leaning toward the LG here makes my decision even harder lol
I’d go with Sony if it had those 4 hdmi 2.1 ports heartbeat But i do care bout future proofing more than accuracy If im getting 90-95% of the same performance but im fully equipped with everything related to games im going with LG Not to mention the G2 has a heatsink which only the QD oled got from sony this year Stay with Sony dear movie purists Let us enjoy or LGs here No hard feelings
Great review! I found 77 A80j at local store. Between 77 C2 or 77 A80j, which one u recommend better color and birghtness, picture quality for 4k movies and tv shows? Thanks
I own a C1 and a A80J. The A80J kills the LG imo. I was always fussing with settings on the C1. The Sony otoh seams to just make everything look beautiful without effort. I know the C2 has improved over the C1 but I'd still go Sony unless your primary use case is gaming.
Whats up Classy, but what are the pro's and cons of the WBC/WBE panels from 2021? Can you break it down in as much detail as possible? Also, I feel like the C1's motion and upscaling got better with the 3.33.11 update, but it could just be placebo. Can you hceck all that and see if there are any improvements?
@Paul Bouchard based on all the reviews tho it seems like they handle older content a lot better than the LGs which is good because not everything is in 4K yet.
@Paul Bouchard Lol damn man that’s crazy which do you use for the main tv right now? Also yea I know Sonys for gaming is okay but we all blatantly know the LG takes that one home without question. I’m just on the fence because I watch movies and tv more than I game but next tv I decide on I’m gonna keep it for a long time if nothing goes wrong with it but I want the best of both world to kinda future proof a bit if only by a little it will still give me piece of mind. So I’ve been hearing the same rhetoric frequently used within this space being Sony = Movies and LG = Games do you have any personal advice?
@Paul Bouchard Nice the S95B looks pretty sweet and a lot of people have good things to say about it but the lack of Dolby Vision is a killer but even more of a bummer is the fact it doesn’t come in 77” size yet. I’m torn between the 77” LG C2 and 77” A80K for my living room/ home theater paired with the Xbox Series X
@Paul Bouchard hey have you gotten a chance to check out Bravia core? Is it worth the hype? That’s another time that’s kinda pushing me towards Sony with the IMAX Enhance picture and how would you rank that in comparison to Dolby Vision?
Got my A80k 77” today. It definitely is on the green side but a beautiful tv. Do you list all of your calibration settings for this tv anywhere? I know panel variance but give me a good starting point. Thank You
It should also be noted that the G2 does not support DTS sound. The Sony support Dolby Atmos and DTS. DTS actually passed more bits of information than Dolby Atmos. Gamers might not care, but Audiophiles such as myself may care. Nearly half of my Blu-ray collection is DTS audio. If you don't get DTS or Atmos you are not hearing the movie the way the Director intended. LG announced that their G3 and C3 models WILL support DTS.
@ClassyTechCalibrations Thanks heaps for these videos they're really helpful :) Just curious for plex viewing on the shield pro 2019, would you recommend the upscaling feature or just turn resolution switching on so the XR chip can do the processing? If you do recommend the upscaling what setting values would you use? Thanks!
Thanks for the great review! Looking at a 77 to mount on a rolling stand. Which one is built better to stand out in the open in a living room? We have a 60 inch plasma now that's built like a tank so a little concerned about the thin screens fragility Thanks
Hey, thanks for all you do! I can’t decide between the A80K and the C2. On one hand, I love the C2 physical design (how that thin screen looks from the sides), the edges, etc., the four 2.1 hdmi inputs, input lag, the stand, and the fact that it is a bit brighter than the A80K. On the other hand, I realize that the A80K is a bit better when it comes to color tones, some say it shows a bit more detail (is that true?) and the sound system is appealing. Which one would you pick?
If you Game 70% movies 30% Then lg C2. If you Game 30% movies 70% Then Sony a80k. By the way i am getting the Sony for 980 bucks. Both Tvs are just amazing.
According to rtings the 65 A80K is a slight downgrade from the 65 A80J. I was surprised to read this but happy as an A80J owner. The C2 and G2 do seem like upgrades though compared to last year. I feel like Sony is throwing everything they have into the A95K this year.
In the UK the price difference for the Sony A95K is £800 for the same size TV when compared to the G2. On that basis the LG is a no brainier currently.
Come on,all important settings for picture and sound in Sony are turn off here!My only 4K budget Sony tv have better and sharper picture than you have here on Sony A80. Why you did not show us settings panel? And remember,Sony always give more, like 3D sound,360° reality audio, Bravia Core, Bravia Cam,so Sony will be always better choise.
Not a fair comparison with the LG G2 which has a heat sink and the benefits of having one vs. the A80K which does not have one. Need to compare the G2 with the A95K.
Why has every OLED I have owned (3) have wavy screens? When you look at them from the side while off they have ripples in the screen and reflection are distorted. I hope you can answer me, is this normal?
For this comparison, it is recommended to visit a store that has both models on display. After conducting this comparison, I personally selected the A80K 77. In terms of picture accuracy, the A80K outperformed the G2 significantly. However, it is worth noting that LG seems to be adopting a similar approach to Samsung by enhancing colors, which can be advantageous for marketing purposes but may result in less realistic color representation. Additionally, the sound quality of the Sony model was noticeably superior to that of the LG. These observations are based on my personal point of view. Furthermore, if you decide to opt for the Sony model, there is a cost advantage at BestBuy currently, with the price being approximately $1,000 less compared to the Sony model. However, please note that you would need to enroll as a Plus Account Holder, which requires a $45 yearly subscription. This additional savings could be utilized to invest in a high-quality soundbar to enhance your audio experience. Additionally, some users may find the Google TV operating system to be superior to LG's WebOS. The Google TV OS offers a more user-friendly and versatile experience with a wider range of apps and features. www.bestbuy.com/site/compare?skus=6502608,6501483
great detailed review especially on gaming and even sound wow thanks a lot! yeah LG sound system prefers bass which is a good thing overall I will pick LG all the time because of HGIG and 4 HDMI2.1, but all OLED has dimming issue even G2 unfortunately A95K without dimming issues easily the best OLED this year!
@@ClassyTechCalibrationshey can can u help me?. I have 65 Q80R. I want to upgrade. I game (PS5) and use Directv for sports and series. LG G2, Sony A95k, Sammy S95B or QN90B. I’ve watch so many channels and researched so much. When I go to the store they don’t have many mid-upper tier TVs to even look at. If u could help I’d appreciate it. God Bless
I have a Lg B1 65". I like the truemotion setup and the 10 gradient dejudder. I have deblur at 0 since I dont see how this is affecting picture quality at movies 23.976 fps. Now is fair to say that the new Lg is better because of the 10 gratient setup one can find easier a setting that suit ones preferance if I want motion to be stutter/micro stuttefree(or at least very tight in this reguard) with minimum of artifacts accepting a bit of soap opera effect. This is better with Lg. Sony is better when the soap opera effect is what one dislike the most thus accepting more stutter motion? Also sony has a better and has clean up more irregularities when it comes to non 4k contant where scaling has to be used(overall content handeling motion, artifacts). Here sony has a clear lead and has cleaned up a lot and thus producing the best picture and motion handeling? I am talking in general here between Lg and Sony. I am considering Sony A95K or wait to see Lgs next year models to see if there is even a better motionhandeling, artifacts, soap opera effect and more clean up in non 4k content(especially low resolution content). I also wonder if A95K will do the trick for me producing a stutterfree, less artifacts motion handeling. I have read that there still is better motion handeling and that sony is still the King (like difficult scenes like in blade runner 45 (from what Hifi review: but not even the new G2 can match the A95K’s combination of complete control over shimmer in tricky, unpredictable motion with a total lack of introduced unrealism.). I am very sensitive to stutter and aritfacts. I understand that Lg is very good at this. But maybe one can get this and also less unrealism/soap opera effect with the coming A95K? looking forward for Your excellent reviews and of A95K. I also read that A95K has done a lot of clean up in other resolution and low resolution content than prievious models so it is even better at this than A90J. I dont game!. But I really like the 10 point dejudder on Lg. And use desktop pc most of the time to watch content on my TV. Use JRiver when watching movies.
For movies dejudder will fix the panning shots and the judder associated with it Deblur effects things like hand movements when there isn't panning motion. 10 is too aggressive, it makes more mistakes than taking it down some. Try 8/8 or 7/7. Even 9/0 will be better than 10/0. 10 dejudder is really only useful for anime, imo.
@@paulcox2447 Thank You for good advise. I have always had dejudder at 7. I built a new pc and I went for intel cpu. With intel I had to go from 6 to 7 on dejudder. My other pc with Amd i7 2700x only needed 6. Very strange that a several years newer intel i5 12600kf alder lake needed more dejudder. Anyways. I sometime see head turn guickly or a hand movement stutter. So beblur will correct these types of stutter? I thought deblur only was for higher frames content like 60 hz reducing blurring in movement making the picture clear or just in general redusing unclearness in movement. so if dejudder at 7 it is recommended to have deblur also at 7. If it is like you describe that small stutter in hand or head movements will be corrected by deblur function, this would be even better result. 👍 update: forum threads say that de-blur is for higher frame content like 60 fps/hz. and that it makes detail in movement more clear and not blurred, hence the name de-blur.
@@paulcox2447 I just tried deblur and from what I can see I think You are right about movement when panning is not involved. It looks to be better. more smooth hand movement or rapid headturns. It is more smooth. It looks like You where right. Thank You!
Looking to buy a new 65" tv. It's between the A80K - 1900$ or LG C2 1700$ where i live (europe). I will be watching Netflix, youtube, Amazon prime etc. I will not be gaming. Which one of these tv's should i buy?
I had the a80j but the panel went out and is under warranty with Best Buy. I had the option of going with the g2 over a80k for a $700 premium. I went a80k because i have the hta-7000 sound bar set up. Hope I’m not disappointed lol but I’ll probably never see a g2 anyway.
@@anuzahyder7185 riiiight, design is the most important thing....Sony has by far the best processing , shadow details, color accuracy and upscaling of sdr content...nothing can match their processor ...And that tells you someone who has LG oled
@@libertalian_8415 i have lg also samsung also. Nope it doesnt have the best shadow details. Thats if u compare against lg c1 which crushes black n i hav lg c1 also. Color accuracy benefit is so minimal that it hardly matters. Samsung gives u more pop. When u watch movie do u take ur device n measure for accuracy. If it is pleasing to my eyes then it’s good enough. Upscaling of 480-720p sdr content is better on the sony no doubt but thats also not significant plus if u r buying a 4k tv to watch 480-720p mostly then it’s unfortunate. Secondly it still looks like crap. Its not like xr processor is magical. Then even x90k wud have been better.
@@anuzahyder7185 You are right about sdr content- it is always crap, but still it is best on Sony. Samsung S95B also crash black, and their tvs have unnatural colors, cartoonish- but as you said - it is subjective- someone likes it that way, but I don't. I like Sony's natural colors.
Yeah, waiting for your results using HDR Tone Mapping at Brightness Preferred, Peak Luminance at High, Advanced Contrast Enhancer at High and gaming. :3
Once calibrated you won’t see much difference. Same wrgb panel. Processing from Sony should show a minute improvement. Whilst qd oled will look different.
Curious - I want the c2 , but when I went to bb today , when they played non dolby content on both tvs - the picture quality / pop of the hdr was waaay better on the Sony . BUT the Lg was plying the video form RUclips and the Sony was connected to a local “steaming box.” Is the content being fed the main difference between them when the quality seems THAT different ? Next they played me a clip from a usb film on both . And it was top quality demo content . Both looks far similar. Bb guy told me it was due to Sonys processing that caused the first video looking so different , but in native DV they would be EQAUL . Is this true ? Or was it really because of the quality of the content being played ?from RUclips vs from local . Thanks . I feel like the two should not have looked that different .
@classy Tech, i am wonder your help to decide wither to go with lgc2 77inch or sony x90k 85" while the lgc2 price higher 1500$ above the sony x90k 85"? Any advise?
Hi, I see a lots of comments on gaming on OLED TVs. I have (had) a OLED LG B7 and in the last 5 years I had to replace two screen panels due to screen burn. On the latest one I clearly see the Warzone drop logo and the number of plates etc..on the bottom left corner. Replacing the screen this time around is costing me more than a new one...Do you have an opinion on screen burning on the latest OLED models either A80 or C2. I'm considering more the Sony due to terrible aftermarket support from LG. Less and less repair shops are dealing or providing support to LG tv owners. I could always go with LCD but nothing compares to OLED when it's movie time...OLED are closer to plasma....Please share your knowledge with screen burn on newer model. Thanks.
C2 went back because ethe ui webos sucks badly now and has done since 2021. I recommend anyone wanting a c2 to try ot out properly as I guarantee you'll go none lg after using its terrible new webos.
I'm undecided between the Sony A90J 65 inch or the LG G2 65 inch... both which are currently priced at $2800.. I've seen them both in person they both look great... the LG looks brighter than the A90J but I've been told the A90J has a better processor... I'm NOT a gamer.. will mostly be using the TV for watching 4k movies, upscaling DirecTV content and some sports, to whoever is reading this , any advice would be appreciated 👍
The processing is mostly equal between them. If you care about the 5 year warranty and the wall mount go for the G2. If you prefer Google OS and the stand with the A90J go for that.
I’ve had both TVs but in the 65 inch. I found the LG C1 to have a lot of black crush and I didn’t care for that. I did enjoy my A80J but did have some issues with the HDMICEC And did not care for how much it dimmed when I was gaming. I currently on the 65 inch A80k. I do hear the A80j 77 is a great tv though because of the EVO glossy panel.
The only option I would say is the G2 because of the HDR brightness. But the A80J is a stellar tv if you're not a gamer. I would not swap it out for the C2 for sure. Also, I have personally had bad luck with LG oleds and always good with Sony.
Great comparison! I noticed on the A80J that the near black luminance for near black/shadow detail can get pretty rough and something odd occurs with this low luma transitions especially when the HDMI signal is set to VRR mode (like when playing through a dark cave with in Elden Ring for example) and I find this rather noticeable in content. Is this specific to this model or is the A80K pretty much the same in this regard? Would i find this happening on the newer LG models? Thanks for any input.
@@MrAlienw On the Sony it gets much better when I switch the HDMI format to “Enhanced” and out of VRR. I wonder if it is the processing of the TV or the mediatek hdmi chipset they use that is more of the issue here. LG is using something else for its 2.1 hdmi chip.
I'm a bit confused as why the A80K would be better than the C2 when C2 and G2 share almost everything... you said it yourself once you calibrate and wants an accurate picture the brightness difference is minimal... so why would it be different on the C2 then? Once calibrated would it be accurate to say that C2 = G2 in 97% of the case? More than A80K considering, software, gaming features on C2 is exactly the same as G2. EDIT: just finished the entire video and you ended up recommending the C2. Still a bit confused at your early comment in the video but at least your conclusion make sense in the end.
@@ClassyTechCalibrations you said that these two models were the best 77 inch we could get. Can't go back to the video right now i'm at work but maybe i missunderstood what you said.
Questions for you Classy: 1. If I watch closed caption/subs on almost everything? 2. Watch CNN and some other news media maybe about 3 to 4 hours a day? So about 1 hour or so on news media then something else then maybe 2 hours again on news etc. Would I get BURN IN on the A80K or J after say 5 to 10 years with this viewing habit? Or would be advisable to get a QN90A or B? Thanks
How can you tell what panel is in the box on an A80J? My local electronics store actually has stock at a great price and I’d rather be able to get the brighter A80J, but also don’t want to get burned with the old panel.
Great review! Thinking about getting the A80K at 77", but I can get the G1 77" at the same price - since I watch streaming shows/movies and a bit of sports, never game, I dont know which is the better one - which would you suggest?
I believe the older 77"/83" A80Js had a glossy screen whereas there's a semi-gloss screen on the smaller J sets. Not sure why the switch when the K-line replaced them.
Trying to choose between the 77 C2 and A80K now. I do streaming, and have a huge library of everything from DVDs to Blu-rays to UHD Blu-rays while doing no gaming at all. Leaning towards the Sony for the upscaling, but is the extra $200 really worth it over the LG?
I bought a C2 for myself, for me this is the best choice in terms of price and quality, a80k is thirty percent more expensive, I think that a80k is a losing choice, if you have money, it’s better to take a90g it has a heatsink and 10bit +, a80k ruined the price
I love classy’s reviews but I have to say I don’t agree with this video at all I just bought the 77inch g2 after returning the 77’ a80k this tv is miles ahead in almost every aspect shadow detail is wayyyyy better on the Lg color looks way brighter and better without being too saturated and the gaming and Dolby Vision is amazing . A80k was just way to dull compared hope this helps someone comparing the two.
@@codyblackstone7779 when they are in their accurate modes, most content will look nearly the same as shown in the video. In HDR10 that would be Cinema or Filmmaker on the LG and turn off dynamic tone mapping, and custom picture mode on the Sony with gradation preferred tone mapping.
@@ClassyTechCalibrations okay so one more question if money isn’t a huge issue and not much of a gamer for pure movies and shows woukd you spend then extra money for the g2 or is the a80k worth getting again and getting it Calibrated. Love the content brother
@@codyblackstone7779 the G2 has other bonuses like the build quality and warranty. I think it's a great over all package, especially if getting it calibrated. The A80K is a great deal still and better for those that want better accuracy without having to change a bunch of settings.
Excellent video. I have a chance to score either G2 or Sony A80K 77" for a superb deal. The Sony comes $200 less than the G2. Can you tame the reds in the LG? I could see them pushing through in the skin tones. If you can adjust that color channel, the G2 wins for me.
Hi Classy, hoping you can answer this question. How would you compare the QN90A vs QN90B? I am not a gamer, I like movies and that's it, it is worth buying the B instead of the A? How about the sounds on them? I don't want to use a sound bar. Thank you
@@ClassyTechCalibrations thank you, will be using a Google Chromecast with GOOGLE TV since I love the Google OS. I like the A80J but scared of burn in as family members watch CNN a lot.
Hi. tell me please, I do not know your language, so I am writing to you through a translator. tell me which of these models would you recommend for a dark bedroom?? thank you in advance.
I love all your videos they are amazing. Question: either the Sony A80J (thanks to you who first mentioned it better than the A80K and Rtings only now confirms that :)) and the Samsung QN9DA (Costco version of the QN90A but with more watts on the speakers system and ultimate UHD dimming PRO)? I am now suck between these 2 tvs (A80J and QN9DA). Thank you
That's dependant on your preference. If you prefer a brighter image in bright scenes, the Samsung will do that. But if you prefer better dark scenes with no blooming, then the A80J or any current OLED will be better.
@@ClassyTechCalibrations thank you very hard decision for sure since I like both bright images and dark when needed to be dark. I don't like Samsung OS but I can get a Chromecast with Google Tv and never have to use Samsung interface really except for settings.
they should be the same Tv except one sells at all the stores and the QN9DA sells at Costco. The QN9DA has 10 more watts and so ultimate UHD dimming "pro". Guess I have would too put them side by side. Comparing specs is ok but the real comparison is when you put them side by side and show various contents and what your eyes see.
Got the 77 c2. I went back and forth on a80k so much but ultimately, everyone said c2 was offering more for the price than Sony. Looking forward to watching content on the 77!
@@spyplane3979 in my opinion I have the G1 and C2 but because of the new processor and the brightness booster I say the C2 is better then the G1 but the G2 is the better one between G1 and C2
Classy, are you gonna test the a90k? I'm waiting for a few in depth reviews on it before I pull the trigger on the 42 inch for a pc monitor, ps5 gaming and streaming/shows/movies. Hoping the a90k has an option to disable the game dimming. The main reason I'm leaning towards the a90k 42 rather than the c2 42 is because I've been hearing for many years that sdr gaming on the Sony oleds is much more vibrant compared to the quite dull sdr game mode on the lg oleds. I've read that the c2 is the same this year. I game is sdr and hdr, so that is important to me. Really enjoy your content. Thank you!
I will review it when it's available, but I am positive it does dim in games, and has no SDR advantage in gaming over the C2. Especially as a monitor where it will be dimming all the time.
@@ClassyTechCalibrations thing is, I'll probably only have the monitor in sdr mode at 30 percent brightness. I can't imagine needing to have 100 percent brightness as a monitor. My c7 in sdr is set to 25% brightness is all I need. I think you said below a certain brightness, the oleds don't dim.
@@michaelmcgehee5932 if you are going to use it around 100nits, it shouldn't dim anymore in games. However, desktop use might, but I haven't tested at that luminance level.
@@ClassyTechCalibrations thank you for your reply. Always appreciate. Looking forward to your review. :-) and perhaps a 48/42 c2 vs a90k comparison at some point.
This all confuses me. I have saw some reviews on youtube show clairty and detail about the same with the C2/G2 vs the sony a80j. Then other reviews clearly show way more detail on clarity and detail on the a80J/a80k over the new LG's. Like this scene with a loaf of bread, having way more clarity because the XR processing. Is it all in settings, do most scenes look about the same but a few just look better on one tv vs the other on clarity?
If the source is built in apps, then the comparison is irrelevant. The source has to be identical through a splitter as streaming content changes it's quality every 2 seconds based on connection quality and server load. It also depends on what settings are being used, and how high someone has reality creation set. A higher reality creation setting can appear sharper or more detailed especially on a camera, but with a closer look can see all of the issues with too much processing as I showed in this video. With native 4k content there shouldn't be any added processing changing the image, and they should look the same. Though there is some processing on the Sony that cannot be fully disabled without using the graphics picture mode.
Is DV still crushing above near black? On the cx and I think the c1 it's crushed. Oh you mentioned it but it wasn't close to digital 64 on cx. I think you should show the low dynamic range test patterns on hdr DV and sdr in the video. Good job you covered it thoroughly.
Probably the best comparison format I've seen so far. No going back and forth between individual displays or confusing split screen footage (looking at you digitaltrends). I like that you keep them both visible at all time while addressing your points

EXCELLENT Review man! I really think you have nailed it with this side-by-side format. I do like it’s remote & diversity of apps in its smart network but, I’d choose the G2 over the A90J even at this point 👌🏼
Not over the A95K but that’s way to much $$. Plus cheaper to go with 77” G2 vs 65” A95K so.. yeah

@roco9504 just ordered one. Did you have a good gaming experience so far?? Is it bright enough?
Enjoy!

If you get a sound bar or AVR you can run a Blu-ray player through that, which is about the only time DTS would be used. All streaming is Dolby/PCM.

We all know that LG can’t compete with Sony , in terms of upscaling , motion , colour reproduction and tone management
Thank you for clearing that up because I think we call know which one is the best overall tv in terms how well rounded it is which is LG🤷🏿♂️
@Paul Bouchard Nice the S95B looks pretty sweet and a lot of people have good things to
say about it but the lack of Dolby Vision is a killer but even more of a bummer is the fact it doesn’t come in 77” size yet.
@ClassyTechCalibrations Thanks heaps for these videos they're really helpful :)
Just curious for plex viewing on the shield pro 2019, would you recommend the upscaling feature or just turn resolution switching on so the XR chip can do the processing? If you do recommend the upscaling what setting values would you use? Thanks!

Does the dimming on the Sony only happen in game mode or while playing games? Could you tell if they weren't side by side?
Hey, thanks for all you do! I can’t decide between the A80K and the C2.
On one hand, I love the C2 physical design (how that thin screen looks from the sides), the edges, etc., the four 2.1 hdmi inputs, input lag, the stand, and the fact that it is a bit brighter than the A80K.
On the other hand, I realize that the A80K is a bit better when it comes to color tones, some say it shows a bit more detail (is that true?) and the sound system is appealing.
Which one would you pick?
If you game then lg c2, lg g2. If you only watch movies sony a80k.

For movies dejudder will fix the panning shots and the judder associated with it
Deblur effects things like hand movements when there isn't panning motion.
update: forum threads say that de-blur is for higher frame content like 60 fps/hz. and that it makes detail in movement more clear and not blurred, hence the name de-blur.

I could always go with LCD but nothing compares to OLED when it's movie time...OLED are closer to plasma....Please share your knowledge with screen burn on newer model. Thanks.

@@ClassyTechCalibrations The processing is in no way equal. The A80J/A80k/A90J all have far superior image processing and image clarity over the LG
Great video that’s the problem with Sony tvs they have dimming which sucks big time when gaming.
Clearly lg is the winner in gaming.
Purchased the 77 a80j and still in return window. Not a gamer. Should I hold on to my a80j or swap for the 77 c2 or g2?
Get the G2
Considering the price you probably got the A80J for, probably won't get much change if you paid more to change it out.
@@ClassyTechCalibrations thank you Classy. Got it for $2499 at Costco.
I have LG C9 and exact same issue. It’s a know problem and I guess not solved.
@@Odank VRR disables something called Dithering which helps with near black issue. I used a reshape with some Dithering and it helped
Thanks brother, this is the most informative and consistent comparison found between the two tvs.
Looks like asbl is less aggressive on the a80k than a80j, a80j asbl can dim the screen up to 75% no?
I'm a bit confused as why the A80K would be better than the C2 when C2 and G2 share almost everything... you said it yourself once you calibrate and wants an accurate picture the brightness difference is minimal... so why would it be different on the C2 then? Once calibrated would it be accurate to say that C2 = G2 in 97% of the case? More than A80K considering, software, gaming features on C2 is exactly the same as G2. EDIT: just finished the entire video and you ended up recommending the C2. Still a bit confused at your early comment in the video but at least your conclusion make sense in the end.
I didn't say at the beginning the A80K would be better than the C2. What's the time stamp that you are referring to?
@@ClassyTechCalibrations you said that these two models were the best 77 inch we could get. Can't go back to the video right now i'm at work but maybe i missunderstood what you said.
@@hELLLcs Oohhh. I was meaning from each brand, they are the best 77s in their line ups.
@@ClassyTechCalibrations ohhh ok that makes sense my bad man!
@@ArtVandelayOfficial I have, the C2 is brighter/better.
Questions for you Classy:
Did you get an answer to your query?
I believe the older 77"/83" A80Js had a glossy screen whereas there's a semi-gloss screen on the smaller J sets. Not sure why the switch when the K-line replaced them.
which is better for sports, LG C2 or A80K?
What do you think of the Sony oled xr 77” a80ck? I am looking for a overall tv for gaming, movies and streaming. Please help!😊
Thank you for providing a more in-depth review and recommendation than Vincent Teoh.
Very nice review, biasless.. good job
I would prefer Sony for its upscaling feature and picture quality if you watch movies a lot.
Any updates to the DV issue on LG OLEDs?
You probably don't have them in the most accurate modes.
Can you elaborate on that ? You know way more about this than I do
@@codyblackstone7779 when they are in their accurate modes, most content will look nearly the same as shown in the video.
Thank you
The A seems to be more mature at this point after all the updates and has the better Tizen system before it was changed.
So Dolby Vision is only on when using cinema?
@@ownerr8441 Consumer Reports gave the 65 inch version of the QN90A a excellent rating for HDR and the QN9D only a very good.
they should be the same Tv except one sells at all the stores and the QN9DA sells at Costco.
You made the right choice congrats
really the c2 is the better but id go for g1 cause its better vs the c2 and the g2 is better vse the g1. I think the change is higher hdr impact.
@@spyplane3979 in my opinion I have the G1 and C2 but because of the new processor and the brightness booster I say the C2 is better then the G1 but the G2 is the better one between G1 and C2
@@spyplane3979 C2 is brighter then the G1
Even the A80J is superior to the C2, or the G2 for that matter.
What is the neutral sharpness setting in the LG, 10 or 0?
0-10 is the same at 4k. As the resolution drops, 10 adds a bit of an anti-aliasing effect.
@@ClassyTechCalibrations The A90k is significantly brighter than the C2
@@ClassyTechCalibrations Reality Creation makes everything look better, once you see it you never wanna go back to another brand of TV.
So has LG fixed Dolby Vision on the G2 yet?
Why do things look bigger on the lg. Like at 1:43 and 2:15? The image at 1:43 looks bigger on the lg compared to the sony.
