Hi, how are you? I just have a quick question... I use that mix for my orchids, in a lil bit worry using them for my monstera albo 😕 is it ok if I add some organic soil (soil with worm cast) Thanks 😊
I just put three leaves in the water. looks like monstera very beautiful. and they were short cut. short stem. but enough to sprout out. I am really hopeful they will sprout..

Hi! Thank you so much for this video! I have been rooting a monstera albo wet stick In sphagnum for a while, and it has healthy roots, but the growth point is just now finally getting ready to sprout a leaf. I definitely have at least as many roots if not a bit more, than you have on your monstera siltepecana (sp?) but I have not been able to find any info anywhere showing how many roots/the quality of roots you should have before transitioning from moss to an aroid mix! I am thinking that maybe I should wait for the leaf to actually pop out before switching it over but I feel so much more comfortable with the amount and quality of the roots I have, now, after seeing this video! Can you tell me, how did the transition go for you on this plant? Did it do well? If you had to do it over again, would you do it the same way or would you have waited for more root growth? Any help or tips you could offer would be so appreciated!
I started to actively follow you just a couple of weeks ago and you have easily become one of my favourite plant channels because of your positive attitude. Hope your doing well and keeping yourself busy and healthy during this pandemic!

@Messiah Wesley Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site through google and im trying it out now. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
Another technique for transitioning out of water that I've heard, is to leave the cutting in the glass with water, and slowly over time add scoops of soil into the water, until eventually the plant is just in soil. Once really established, move into a container with drainage. Takes time and patience, but makes sense to me!
Ooh ok. Thanks for sharing. I’ve never tried this method and it does make sense, I think the only thing that might scare me a bit is the soil sticking to the roots and build up where it might suffocate but I think of you add it gradually it should be fine 🤔
I am super new to growing/propagating in moss but I hear from so many that it works so well. I’m interested to hear your learning, successes, and fails with this method. I learn soooo much from your “mistakes” videos especially because of your awesome transparency ♥️
Thanks Lizz. Appreciate it. I’ve done a lot of water propagation. It was my first method when trying propagation and found great success, especially with vining plants like Pothos and Monstera.

Thank you for this video, it's very good timing because i had moved 2 cuttings from my Monstera Deliciosa from water to soil and they have both gotten root rot. I have one of them back in water healing (grew a new root already). I'm afraid to transfer them soil again because they seem to rootrot pretty quickly. I think I'll try the spagnum moss out. Thanks!

And how is your albo doing 2 months later after the transfer?

I had a strong inclination that it might be time to transition a few of them to moss. I just ordered some orchid pots too, so I'm all set.
Nice video! I recently bought a small, one leaf cutting of the M deliciosa Aurea, its rooting nicely in water. Its just developing a small bump for a new leaf. I'm so scared of it getting root rot. Hi question: when is the right time to transfer plants from spaghnum moss to the pot soil? should look to the root system? or when you feel its big already? whats the key :)
Root system is always a good Sign your plant is healthy. Once you see it developed really well and there’s also sign your plant is growing then it’s ok to transfer it to soil. I’ve transferred plant cuttings with at least 2 inches of roots. Just make sure the pot isn’t too big for the root system.

I had two leaves on one stem from a cutting that I've been propagating in water for 2 months. I just transferred it into it's first pot following your directions. :) (Fingers crossed!) I see that this video is a year old right now as I type this. I'm wondering HOW is your plant doing today, almost exactly a year later? I hope you can let me know how this plant is today in October, 2021? Thanks! Love your channel :)
Always a fun project. I don’t like water prop because it tends to shock the plant when you do finally get it into a substrate. It’s due to the lack of dead root cuticle build caused by the medium. This inability for the water propagated roots to withstand abrasive soil is very common
@@dotorabedouina I’m doing a video upload in this Monday actually but my presence is between sphagnum and leca. I fell like leca builds up the best cuticle and makes for the best transfer to potting soil in the future. Sphagnum you need to watch for rot or degradation. What is your top choice?
Hi. 😊 Thank you so much for your video. I'm totally freaking out right now as I'm completely new to indoor plants and I have bought two (very expensive!) variegated monstera rooted cuttings. My cutting do not have a aerial root, I see so many ppl rooting their albos from the aerial roots. Can I root in water without that? I have my cutting in a mason jar in water on a heating mat.
I found a monstera siltepecana cutting in the maranta plant I bought the other day and this video just helped me identify it, so thank you for that LMAO
Thank you for all the videos you put, I just wanted to ask about a plant I bought. It’s a Monstera Albo Verigated and it’s only a root cutting but it’s rotted. I just wanted to ask if you have any advice to give me on how to keep it alive.
I need help. I purchased my monstera two weeks ago and it’s been living in a bucket of water because I want to move it when I get a moss pole. Now the monstera is shedding its soil roots (turned mushy) and growing some water roots. I’m wondering if I should remove all the soil roots and wait for the water roots to grow out, or move them before all soil roots are gone?
Hello, today I transfer my monstera albo from water to soil. I was bought it almost 1 year ago in clay ball and I put it into the water with clay balls. it grows roots well in it. and it gave an air root also, then it starts to give a new leaf but I am waiting for almost 4 months for it to grow and it didn't. Today I realize that it's roost are rotting in the water, so I decided to transfer it to soil. Will there be any problem? I am ssoo affraid to loose her!
Hi christian, can you explain why some moss pole gets moldy and how to fix it. You have a recommendation in your description box and many of these moss pole reviews has problem. It would be helpful to teach us on having moss pole problem. Thanks!
My rare fibrosum just went through serious shock after replanting it into soil. I kept it in a shagnum moss with a mixture of perlite for 3 months and I'm freaking out now and don't know what to do. All the leaves became droopy and I'm not sure if it will come back.
I have monstera that started to grow a new leaf slowly in water but I moved it to soil while still in the process and now the new leaf is coming through black, I checked the roots and there’s no rotting, and the soil is moist but not over watered, have I just shocked the leaf because it was growing while in water instead? Should I move it back to water? Help
I replanted my propagated Monstera (from water to soil) but leaves are droopy but still green. Any tips on how to perk them up. They have been in the pot of soil for about 5 weeks. I can tell the roots are growing though.
I potted my monstera albo cutting on Sunday with a moss pole and watered thoroughly. Your video helped a lot! How often do you water once potted in soil?
How often is hard to answer as it depends on your environment, how much your plant gets, the size of the pot, the potting mix it’s in. I think rule of thumb for me is beater when the potting mixture is completely dry. Because mine is in a fairly small container, gets a lot of bright indirect light, and the potting mixture is super airy, it does up pretty fast. So I usually water mine every 7-10 days.
Love your videos you give great information 🤠 ty for everything I'm about to post a few videos of my plants if you or anyone in the comments can give tips would greatly appreciated.
I don’t add any if they are propagating in water or moss. I’ve heard that it can create issues with the growth of the foliage while it’s trying to develop roots.
It depends on my medium. This aroid mix in using I thunk I’ll keep these plants in. Until it’s time to repot again. I might keep using the same if I have some around or just make my own using potting mix and pumice and bark.
Thabk you for a great video. How often you change the water to Monstera Albo please? Is there any growing encouraging supplement you add into the water? Thank you x
I would change it wherever it got dirty or at least every two weeks, whichever comes first. Most times I’ll need to top it up with fresh water. I would avoid putting any nutrients or fertilizer in the water. This can cause growth issues and deformed leaves etc.
Very helpful! Thank you. Perfect timing as I just repotted my water propogated neon Pothos and marble queen and was super nervous being in Muskoka about repotting or waiting waiting until spring.
Awesome. If you get them in a nice airy substrate than it should be fine potting them in fall/winter even in Ontario, just need to be mindful of watering and getting use to cutting back during the winter. 😅
Hi Christian, great video! I’ve been water propagating a monstera deliciosa - it developed new white roots which then turned slightly brown. The roots are 2-3” long - is it safe to transition to a pot or should I wait for new, healthy white roots to grow again? Thanks so much!
It should be safe, but maybe wait until the roots are a bit longer. Also make sure your pot size is t too big for the roots and your potting mixture is airy when you do decide to transfer them .
Yup. It’s normal. I’ve had one where it didn’t give me new leaves for months. As long as your plant is healthy and giving it the right lighting condition it eventually will start to grow.
I need help I got some cuttings from a lady. They didn’t have much root on them at all. They have been in water. I change the water at least once a week maybe two. I noticed yesterday some of them were brown and mushy so I trimmed them off did a little soak with hydrogen peroxide and water. Then fresh water. I would like to plant it in something to grown more roots. But I’m afraid that it will die
I’ve never used heat mats before. But definitely use a humidifier in the winter. Especially since it gets really dry up here in Canada during the winter. Also get a hygrometer to measure the humidity levels in your home .
hey, anyone know any plants that can live outside on a patio in the desert? gets to about 120 F in the dead of summer, little to no humidity for most of the year, but the patio is shaded so they wont get much direct light
@@IL0v3lizards thanks :) i'll make sure to look into em. just started caring for a couple indoor plants not too long ago but wanted something for the patio as well. but the desert isnt exactly inviting to most plants
You can really play around with textures and colors as far as cacti and succulents. You can find virtually any color you want and most of them will stress out (even in the shade) to reds, purples, oranges, blacks, etc. For hanging baskets, this is an ideal situation for String of Pearls as long as you keep them in the shade. String of anything, really. You can experiment with different variegations too. You're living the dream! I would also consult Carmen Whitehead's channel; she's right there in the same climate.
The price of those Monstera Albo is sickening. They're gorgeous, don't get me wrong, but I couldn't live with myself if I spent that much on one finicky, fussy, brat of a plant. On a less snotty note: I heard it's best to move your water/substrate props when the roots are about 1cm so the transition to soil is easier. That works for me, but I never prop in straight water; I use perlite in a baggie.
Absolutely, that’s why I suggest to not get the fussy plants until you have the experience and ready to take them on. And as long as it’s within your budget. 😊 I need to try the perlite and baggie propagation method sometime.
I just purchased a monster albo cutting and not sure how much water I’m supposed to put in the vase. Lol also, should I use superthrive? Any tips would be awesome!
Thank you for your informative, useful and "happy" videos🙌 I have a question for you: I live in a tiny small town in Norway, and getting a hold of the things you use for your potting mix are damn near impossible 😅 I have access to regular plant soil, bark and round expanded clay(it's called Leca kuler here). Do you think a mix of that would be sufficient for my monstera cuttings? I've also been told that cat sand(litter sand?) Could be used? 🤭 Also: my cuttings have a few roots three big ones with smaller ones growing from them. Winter time in northern Norway is cold and really dark. Do you think it would be smart to take them out for their water, and into a potting mix, before the daylight goes away for the winter? Even though their not really "grown enough" ? Thank you in advance, from a newbie in Norway.
Ok off topic.....I would love a string of hearts like yours, but I can only find them with thin runners. How did you get yours so full? I am willing to buy a juvenile and let it get more full over time, but all the ones I've seen, the runners and leaves get smaller as they get longer. Is it the specific species of string of hearts you have? What's your secret?!!!!
How did you know this is exactly what I'm contemplating with my monstera Thai constellation🤔😊I was so scared to move them into water. Thanks for the video.
When the roots have developed. I’ve moved monstera cuttings from water to soil when they have at least two inches of roots. Meet thing is just to make sure your pots isn’t too big for the roots and your medium is airy to start with.
Hmm..does your window get cold? If you have good window and there’s no draft or cold that’s ones in. I would leave it? I move my plants closer to the window during the winter to get more light. But my windows are also thick so no cold gets in.
Thanks for this video. Do you have any tips on when to repot a pilea baby that was born in water? I tried propagating pilea from a single leaf with some of the trunk attached and it's been growing some very nice roots, but also a baby. The problem is, the baby is completely submerged in water and I don't know when to pot everything, including the baby 👶 Any suggestions?
I’ll keep it until the roots have grown a bit more or they’re starting to show through the drainage holes or the roots are long enough to be potted in the pot size you are going to pot it with aroid mix.
How do you know what size pot to use? My golden pothos roots are about 5 inchs long now so I know its time to pot it. Im just not sure what size pot to use. This is my first time ordering cuttings and propagating Please help!
Hmm. I would say get a 4 inch and 6 inch. Place the plant in and see how room you have. You’ll want to make sure that when you add the soil that there’s still a bit of room for the roots to grow, but you also don’t want it to be too big.
The ingredients in the Aroid mix I used are: coco chips, bark, pumice, expanded clay and peat chunks.
Would an orchard bark mix work with monstera deliciosa?
Thank you 🙏 I was about to ask you about it
Hi, how are you? I just have a quick question... I use that mix for my orchids, in a lil bit worry using them for my monstera albo 😕 is it ok if I add some organic soil (soil with worm cast)

Hi I've just taken mine out all the roots are rotten cut them off at put it back in water what's the odds it's got 2 leaves
Where do you buy your plastic containers?
do you have a go-to source or sources for your more rare plants in Canada, particularly the GTA?
Help
how long (months) should a monstera cutting remain in water? When do I transfer the water propagation to soil?
I replanted my propagated Monstera (from water to soil) but leaves are droopy but still green. Any tips on how to perk them up. They have been in the pot of soil for about 5 weeks. I can tell the roots are growing though.
Love your channel ♥️ greetings from Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦
So I took my Monstera Deliciosa from water to soil cutting and it is turning yellow. Any advice? Should I put it back in water?
Love your videos. I’m thinking of buying variegated Monstera cutting, did you add anything in the water to help it root?
Question - I’m afraid my albo will get root rot. Would you suggest putting it in perlite?
I have ny monstera delicioso in water but the leaves are turning yellow what do I need to do?
I potted my monstera albo cutting on Sunday with a moss pole and watered thoroughly. Your video helped a lot! How often do you water once potted in soil?
How often is hard to answer as it depends on your environment, how much your plant gets, the size of the pot, the potting mix it’s in. I think rule of thumb for me is beater when the potting mixture is completely dry. Because mine is in a fairly small container, gets a lot of bright indirect light, and the potting mixture is super airy, it does up pretty fast. So I usually water mine every 7-10 days.
good info, thx.
cloning gel to promote growth points? how is this done? on the growing stem itself, on the roots? in the water? so curious!
I put it on the stem where the dormant growth points are. It will wake them up.
Love your videos you give great information 🤠 ty for everything I'm about to post a few videos of my plants if you or anyone in the comments can give tips would greatly appreciated.
hi, do you add nutrients to your propagations to promote new growth while the propagate?
I don’t add any if they are propagating in water or moss. I’ve heard that it can create issues with the growth of the foliage while it’s trying to develop roots.
So once the roots have established in the airy mixture, Do you leave it there or transfer it to a regular potting mixture?
It depends on my medium. This aroid mix in using I thunk I’ll keep these plants in. Until it’s time to repot again. I might keep using the same if I have some around or just make my own using potting mix and pumice and bark.
Where do get those pots
Thabk you for a great video. How often you change the water to Monstera Albo please? Is there any growing encouraging supplement you add into the water? Thank you x
I would change it wherever it got dirty or at least every two weeks, whichever comes first. Most times I’ll need to top it up with fresh water. I would avoid putting any nutrients or fertilizer in the water. This can cause growth issues and deformed leaves etc.
@@CrazyPlantGuy Thank you so much for your reply ☺️🙏. Will do it.
I much enjoy your videos. Thanks for them 👍☺️💚🤍 x
Got it, thank you!!
Great stuff as always! I got a baby Thai Constellation at the end of may and it still hasn't sprouted a new leaf! The roots are fine, is this normal?
Yup. It’s normal. I’ve had one where it didn’t give me new leaves for months. As long as your plant is healthy and giving it the right lighting condition it eventually will start to grow.
I've been propagating my Monstera for 4 Weeks now. Do you know how it can happen that a new leaf comes out, but NO root came out?
I need help I got some cuttings from a lady. They didn’t have much root on them at all. They have been in water. I change the water at least once a week maybe two. I noticed yesterday some of them were brown and mushy so I trimmed them off did a little soak with hydrogen peroxide and water. Then fresh water. I would like to plant it in something to grown more roots. But I’m afraid that it will die
Great video. I was wondering if you have any tips for using heat mats or humidifiers in winter months? Thanks. :)
I’ve never used heat mats before. But definitely use a humidifier in the winter. Especially since it gets really dry up here in Canada during the winter. Also get a hygrometer to measure the humidity levels in your home .
@@CrazyPlantGuy thanks so much!
hey, anyone know any plants that can live outside on a patio in the desert? gets to about 120 F in the dead of summer, little to no humidity for most of the year, but the patio is shaded so they wont get much direct light
Sedum, lantana, euphorbias, aloe, qnd elephant tree are a few I hope you find some to fit your space 🤪🥰🌷🌿🌱
@@IL0v3lizards thanks :) i'll make sure to look into em. just started caring for a couple indoor plants not too long ago but wanted something for the patio as well. but the desert isnt exactly inviting to most plants
@@IL0v3lizards Thanks for this. I was trying to think what would thrive out there, since I don't live in that type of climate, I was a bit stuck...lol
Just make sure the water is above the node where the roots will grow from.
Thank you for your informative, useful and "happy" videos🙌
I have a question for you:
I live in a tiny small town in Norway, and getting a hold of the things you use for your potting mix are damn near impossible 😅 I have access to regular plant soil, bark and round expanded clay(it's called Leca kuler here).
Do you think a mix of that would be sufficient for my monstera cuttings?
I've also been told that cat sand(litter sand?) Could be used? 🤭
Also: my cuttings have a few roots three big ones with smaller ones growing from them.
Never mind!!!! I just found your string of hearts video that literally answered all my questions. Thank you!
May I ask where you got your clear pots from?
I think these ones I got from my local nursery Crystal Star.
Beautiful
Do you sell cuttings or stem clippings?😫
Thank you. Unfortunately I don’t at the moment. Maybe sometime in the future.
That siltepecana is calling my name and I have to answer 😍🤩
It definitely wasn’t a plant I wanted or was even looking for. But it definitely is becoming one of my faves. 🤩
Should i move my small catus away from the wimdow in the winter?
Hmm..does your window get cold? If you have good window and there’s no draft or cold that’s ones in. I would leave it? I move my plants closer to the window during the winter to get more light. But my windows are also thick so no cold gets in.
@@CrazyPlantGuy thx and no it gets cold..what do you suggest then?
I love your presentations all the time. Please make more if you have the time.
Thank you, appreciate the support.
Thanks for this video. Do you have any tips on when to repot a pilea baby that was born in water? I tried propagating pilea from a single leaf with some of the trunk attached and it's been growing some very nice roots, but also a baby. The problem is, the baby is completely submerged in water and I don't know when to pot everything, including the baby 👶
Any suggestions?
If the roots are king and healthy enough it should be ok to repot now.
@@CrazyPlantGuy thank you, I'll try!
How long do you keep your cuttings in spag moss before putting them in the aroid mix? i'm following your process step by step 😄
I’ll keep it until the roots have grown a bit more or they’re starting to show through the drainage holes or the roots are long enough to be potted in the pot size you are going to pot it with aroid mix.
Which nursery did you buy those pots from? I'm always down to support local nurseries. 😃
@@CrazyPlantGuy Will do. Thank you!!!:)
