Both the propagation and this video have been so informative, best videos I’ve watched in awhile. It’s inspired me to give propagating another go and hopefully the cuttings will survive in soil with your helpful tips!
I'm so glad it was helpful! Hoping they do okay for you! I still lose props sometimes - it happens regardless but most of them transfer and do well for me :)
Ah! I think this is why some of mine didn’t make it! I added some cuttings back in to my micans but I don’t think I got the roots down in deep enough! Great video Melissa! I’m always learning! 👏🏼👏🏼💚
Thanks Deanna :) I'm happy to help!! I think they can tend to dry out a lot and I barely lose any props now - sometimes I still do it happens but most of the time they transfer okay!
I have used stratum to root Hoyas all the time and they root so fast. I don't put holes in the cup. I just put it the way you did it the first time on this video and it's been fine.
I like to transition my water cuttings like how you did with your scindapsus. I make my soil a little more water retentive and when she grows I upsize and use the normal chunky mix. I love the ocean forest mix, I've seen a difference since I saw your video and switched. I do water my cuttings with a weak solution of foliage pro. I can't use slow release, because for some reason my dog is attracted to it, and she eats the dirt out of my pots. I'm currently rooting my linearis in leca and it's doing great, so I imagine your fluvial cuttings will make it. Thank you for sharing and have a lovely weekend.🌱
Watch your fluval stratum as it does dry out fast regardless of having the holes that wick up the water. I have many Hoya cuttings all rooting in fluval ATM and they rooted very quickly. Hello from 1000 Islands, Ontario, Canada
Thank you for this very informative video. I'm new to propagating and planting propagations in soil. I just planted my prayer vine props in soil a few days ago and the leaves started curling, I'm assuming bc I didn't keep the soil moist enough. Hopeing it doesn't completely die on me.
So helpful! Thank you! Would LOVE a version of this but after propping in moss. I have a number of things propping in moss right now... few hoya, and a couple scindapsus but I'm scared to plant and take out of the major humidity they are in... would appreciate your knowledge around this :)
Thank you! I think the biggest thing is the environment they're transitioning to! I would do it slowly if the humidity is a lot less. I would leave them in moss until they've acclimated out and then pot up. If you're potting up straight away it can shock them and roots can rot very quickly. It doesn't always happen and I've potted up before straight away but definitely can be more risky! I think a couple weeks would give them enough time :)
When I Started Watching This Video A Version Of An Old Song Popped Into My Head... SO Now I'm About To Get IT Out: 🎶🎶🎶 Make New Plants... Make New Plants... But Keep The Old... Keep The Old!!! One Is SILVER And The Other GOLD!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Hello Melissa. I'm propagating my Chinese evergreens in water. How long can it stay in water? its only been a week and there's hardly any roots yet from from nodes. Thank you.
Hey Melissa! I've been enjoying your channel!🌴🧡Thanks for doing this video! I have always struggled with keeping my new props alive when replanting them into the mother plant, so thanks for the hack with the squeeze bottle! Just wondering... How long did it take for the Trubeii cuttings to root in water?
Thank you! I’m not sure how long they took to root in the prop display I had them in - at least a few weeks I would say. I kinda ignored them and just added more water back in most of the time 🙈
@@plantsbymelissa LOL! You’re too funny.🤣 I was asking because I assumed that since Truebii’s are such slow growers, that they would also take months to root! So, that’s encouraging to know. I recently bought my second Truebeii, and I am looking forward to propagating them to make more! It’s getting cold here, so I think I will wait to do it in the Spring! Thanks, Melissa!🪴😊
I’m wondering if the shears you are using will cut bigger branches? I’d like to get a pair of them as mine are not that sharp if I’m cutting off a large branch. I had to cut three times to cut off a dying branch of my large peace lily.
You don’t have to keep pointing that out every time it happens 😅 I already said I’m not the best with a camera and maybe one day I’ll continue to get better at it. If it bothers you then just don’t watch. I can’t control the weather on days I film either.
@@plantsbymelissa I’m sorry that I’ve upset you. I didn’t mean to. I’m autistic, lights and sounds can be very distracting to me. And when I notice it my brain just fixates on that one thing. Thank you for having silence in the background. It’s very calming.
I learned a lot from this video, plantology at its best. Thanks.
Thank you so much! Glad it was helpful :)

Is great to make new plants for free and ,the roots are so healthy !

I did a small binge on your videos today - plant tour, shopping, and this one. Always enjoy your videos 🌿🪴
aw thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoy them! :)

Thank you so much for this video...I was searching how to put my begoniaprop from water to soil.. now I know what to do 🥰👏👏👏
You’re welcome! 💚💚

Oh no not the dirt! That’s so interesting! I hear foliage pro is great! I think if I ever try something else I’ll give it a go :)
Have a great weekend as well! ☺️🙏🏼

Thanks for the tip! I've been keeping a close eye on them and the fluval is doing well in my cabinet so far - my corms are going crazy!

Loved this video!! 👌🏻🪴
thank you! I'm so glad!
Stratum is awesome for hoya! I mix mine with perlite to add airy-ness with a small leca reservoir. I don't rinse my stratum.
Good to know! Thank you :)

Do you ever use rooting powder? I bought some powder, but haven’t used it yet.

I have a couple I use from fiskars and they can cut through a monstera vine well enough - one is pretty old and doesn't cut as well though.
@@plantsbymelissa ok thank you. I’ll check on Amazon
Is fluval and stratum the same? I bought two props in stratum and would like to transition them to either leca or soil.
I believe they’re used interchangeably yes! I think it might be easier to say one name haha. My bag says fluval stratum.
Where did you get the potting Monstera mat?
a girl on instagram sent it me awhile ago :) her site is www.theplantdrip.co
Where can I buy the watering bottle that you use!
Amazon. They come in a pack of two. I bought that but have only used one. They are 500 ml bottles.
I bought this one from Lowe's actually! It was $3.99
@@plantsbymelissa that’s a great price. What looks to be the same pair is just over $16 on Amazon

I think it can be referenced as both :) My bag says fluval stratum but it's easier to say one name haha. I'm loving it so far!
