They donated the earnings of this song to the children of the world. Unicef.
It is a forever thing
They went beyond donating just their record royalties (which, alone, would have been a big deal). They also donated the publishing rights (making them the 1st group to make such a donation to charity), so forever, any use of the song (including in movies, commercials, etc) by any artist, a portion goes to UNICEF. The last official tally I saw was 2011, saying UNICEF had received over 10 million British pounds from it, for emergency food & healthcare. Elsewhere someone said it hit 20 million as of 2019 (but I haven’t found an official source for that).
@@wnsafford1854 I said it wrong. You said it. Yes the publishing royalties. Isn't that beautiful. What a perfect song
. When Barry sing the love, the love , the love, I think of heavens love they showed to the children. Thanks for correcting and informing us. Be well.
@@SueProv Oh, you didn't say it wrong & I sure wasn't trying to "correct" you. I just wanted to expand on what you said (so others could appreciate the magnitude of their donation). Donating "performance royalties" had been done before. Donating both "performance royalties", Plus publishing rights, that was a 1st.

Iconic beegees
One of my favorite pastimes is watching people discovering The Bee Gees. They are amazing.
Mine too!
I love it!!
Me too!!!!

One of my favourite Bee Gee tracks💜
You can't replicate harmonies electronically, it's pure talent.
And that family was especially gifted..scientifically siblings naturally have a higher chance of being able to harmonize.
That's not true. You can do overdub harmonies easily. It's a common production technique. What you can't replicate is THEIR voices, that also harmonize perfectly in real time. Basically an instrument nobody can have. I get what you're trying to say though. Cheers
@@floordoctor can you produce from scratch? Not overdub? Not being sarcastic, really trying to learn. My comment was a paraphrase to what Robin Gibb once said. Cheers to you, too!
@@floordoctor he should've added 'in those days'.
@@loriwishman1866 yeah...everything can be created from scratch. It always starts with recording the vocals separately. Simply modulate and/or move it to fit (the short version lol). If you go back to what Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys, or Quincy Jones, or Steely Dan etc - have done with vocal harmonies... it’s nothing new. Technology has merely made it easier without having to track vocals repeatedly all day (especially where vocal talent is limited). The challenge is to nail EACH part of the harmony & then make it sound natural & full...without overwhelming other things. More about the engineer at that point. Even the Gibbs used different recording methods...sometimes 3 mics, sometimes 1 mic, sometimes all together, sometimes separately. Undoubtedly, they made vocal recording easy. Maurice was the guy that made it all work - a perfect harmonizer... he had the second harmony which is the most difficult note to find. That isn’t something you replicate naturally at all in production. Barry & Robin were lead on most of their big jams, but Maurice was really the piece that made those harmonies perfect. For the vocals to be that consistently high, and so tonally accurate... they really were something else. To achieve that sound, you need talent AND skill....beyond just having such similar qualities to all their voices. The odds of getting that out of two brothers, let alone all 4.... has gotta be one in a trillion.
All natural, theyve been singing together since very early childhood. NO AUTOTUNE, just talent
The fact that all 4 of the Gibb's brothers were born with so much talent is absolutely amazing.
Apparently Barry has said that Andy was his twin - his 9 or 11 years younger twin. They were very similar in looks and voices. Andy was a silly sod for taking drugs - dead at 30. Without any doubt these Gibb boys were most talented song writers and singers on this earth.
I used to ignore the BeeGees when I was a teenager because they were Pop, but as I get older, I respect the music. They're Great!
@James Menke.... Guilty here, as well; dubbed earlier songs as pop, then after Saturday Night Fever: The dreaded disco! Which truly wasn't fair, but I was into completely different music at the time. Love hearing them after all these years, and discovering the merit of their collective work
The best “soul” band of all time.. we just thought it was POP. There were no machines to mix or arrange; they did it all.
same here lmao, Im still only 23. My dad used to listen to them but I always thought it was horrible, But now days I vibe with them!
I'm that way about Abba now. Lol.
I didn't ignore them, but I liked Andy Gibb more- I was more into solo artists than groups at the time, I guess. The BeeGees were around much earlier than most people realize, since they didn't become superstar-popular until Saturday Night Fever, and the disco phenomenon.
"I'm getting married to this!".. as he lights a blunt . Dude you 💀 me

When Barry was 6 and Robin and Maurice were 3 (twins) their parents and sister would hear them singing and think it was the radio. They do it as naturally as breathing. Barry said he and Robin would each sing a different "lead" and Maurice was a natural harmonizer and would just join in with the perfect harmony. It's astounding, really. He said Maurice would joke that it was because they were "really triplets, but poor Barry was deformed." 🤣
I'm an identical twin and I can't harmonize to save my soul but my sister can.
🤣🤣🤣
@@TheMadeofhonor, then you're definitely meant to sing the melody. Let Sis do the harmony. 😁

Barry Gibb wrote this song, if I'm not badly mistaken. He's one of the most prolific song writers of our time.
You’re not. I miss music like this.
@@AbbyC543 I do too.

"This shit beautiful"....LOL.... Funny. Sir, you just can't beat the Bee Gees man. I mean its got to be the smoothest and softest voice anywhere. Their harmonies are just out of this world. Not even the Beatles, or the Beach Boys could do what these fellows did. On style, they are #1.
I love them ... but sorry to disagree. The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac have vocals on par any day. Maybe few else, but they certainly do!
Gotta disagree...nobody can beat Beach Boys harmony. Bee Gees are still good tho
yup
Can't forget about Andy Gibb
This shit beautiful! Yes it is.
There are some people that consider the Bee Gees to be a guilty pleasure. I have no guilt! I love their music! Sir Barry Gibb is a phenomenal artist. The Bee Gees are in a class all by themselves. Their music resonates within me and touches my soul.
Kinda like Michael Bolton. Guilty pleasure, yes. But I have none for the BeeGees either my friend. 😊👌 not one ounce of guilt.

Their little brother Andy Gibb was a great singer too, his song " I Just Want To Be Your Everything" is so good.
Yes but most of the background vocals are by Barry and Barry wrote it.
I favor (Our Love) Don’t Throw it All Away and Love is Thicker than Water.

They do have the voices of angels. Pure and souful.
I recently watched the documentary titled The Last Bee Bee in which Barry interviews and tells their story and it's so sad but so good, I recommend everyone who loves this group to watch it. But when he says that he cannot explain and doesn't understand why he is the last remaining after the other two passing with being the eldest, and then he tears up, it will breaks your heart. But the Bee Gees will live on forever, legends never die!
Legends never die they just simply continue.

That song was called a "panty dropper" when it came out. These guys made a LOT of babies.
A lot of babies were made because this song...lol

In Australia we called this song a legs opener.
Your face at 9:26 when Barry hits those "love, love, love's" is everything. You went from fun, gitty entertainment to a look of pure revered appreciation. That's the power of The Bee Gee's falsettos lol
Is you're soul growing from hearing all this different music?
So lucky to have had the Bee Gees, Chi Lites, Abba etc to grow through my early life. Blessed!
Barry did not realize he could do the falsetto until years into their recording. Once he did it Robin followed with it. Maurice could do it to a point, but not as well as Barry and Robin.
MsAppeljack Robin did not do falsetto; he had a natural gorgeous voice. It was Maurice who occasionally did falsetto; here he is on one of those rare occasions, instead of Barry: search The Bee Gees - Nights On Broadway - The Midnight Special 1975. Towards the end, after the bridge, Robin is carrying the melody, Barry's doing the lower harmony, and ... there's Maurice belting out the falsetto "echo" ("blame it on the nights on Broadway! ... oh, yeah, yeah").
@@coffeeonthedeck6258 Maurice stated in the HBOMAX documentary that Robin did falsetto with Barry. He said Barry did it first, and the next thing I knew, there was Robin falling right in with him.
Robin was always my favorite..
Barry said in an interview that Robin sung in a higher rang than he could. That's before he realized what is called a head voice, and he was just goofing around and his brothers told him to keep doing it. We all know how great that turned out. My name is sherry not Alexandro. I'm not tech. Savvy so I don't know how to fix that. I'm old enough to be that boys mom. You younger people are geniuses with technology.
They switched it up alot but both Robin, and maurice could sing falsetto and in deeper tones. They had very versatile ranges in their voices.
And yes this s*** is beautiful.
The Barry Gibb Talk Show on SNL with Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake is funny!
Yes yes yes! “Talking about chest hair, talking about crazy gold medallions....”.
And sadly Jimmy hasn't been funny since
You have great taste in music
I told him on the last one he did that he needed to watch that! I got completely hysterical the fist time I saw it! 😂😂😂

There will never be another group of brothers like them 💚💚💚💚💚
Nope and the 2nd best were a brother and sister act the Carpenters FROM THE 70s woooow
There will never be another group like them, period!
It’s even more amazing when you consider Barry didn’t really know he had that falsetto. He used to sing in “normal” range, but on “Nights on Broadway” the producer wanted a scream to fill in some parts of the song. Barry started singing, higher and higher. His falsetto is actually easier then his lower range.
Wow did know that for sure and thank you.
Barry is the top songwriter in the history of music. Then mix in his insistence of producing and engineering all his music to ensure it stayed exactly how he “heard it in his head”; no matter who was to perform the song. Yet, for many years, so many had no idea they were listening to a Barry Gibb Production.
Easy there, greatest songwriter in history. Cmon
@@rapinbatches you'd be surprised if you only knew
Kenny Rogers called Barry “an incredible producer” & said “If you sing with Barry Gibb, you sound like the Bee Gee's" (because Barry's phrasing was so unique). Kenny also said, after 4 days trying to sing Islands in the Stream the way Barry wanted it, he didn't even like the song anymore. It was Barry who said it needed Dolly Parton (who Kenny barely knew). They didn’t know if she was available or even in the state, till Kenny’s manager said he’d Just seen her, called her & Dolly said, “Wow, Barry Gibb & Kenny Rogers, Sure!.” To everyone’s surprise, she arrived at the studio about an hour later & the rest is history….a monster hit & the beginning of Kenny & Dolly’s lifelong friendship.
Barry didn't often write alone. He had two co-writers who were just as important to the songs writing as he was. He has some songs he wrote alone, as do Robin and Maurice, but most were co-writes, and all three were equal in the writing process. Why do Barry-lovers always try and make out as if Robin and Maurice are unimportant?
Writing and producing are two different things. Barry and the others wrote and produced many, many songs, but so did Burt Bacharach and Dianne Warren, probably on a par in terms of songwriting.
The Bee Gees touch deep in the HEART ♥️ Their songs are so well known for the "Feelings" they invoke of "LOVE" 💯❣️
they also wrote "Islands in the stream" for Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton
You know credit is given for all three writing Island in the stream. I read Robin wrote it by himself???
@@Georgia__Girl , it's like Lennon and McCartney. They wrote some songs together, but most of the time they wrote separately. Even if one or another wrote a song alone, it was always presented as, 'written by Lennon&McCartney'. It's a fairly common practice.
They have hundreds of songs they wrote for themselves to sing and for others. I think they had over 20 albums. Not positive on that number but it was a lot. They have out done most every musician ever with records and awards. They are amazing!!

I love this guy but all stand up comedians would roll their eyes at that comment. It takes years of experience with a mic in front of a crowd to get good at that. It's way harder than spontaneously saying some funny thing reacting to something. There is no time to sit in silence. You have to constantly say something funny or leading to something funny. There was never any doubt when a Bee Gees song was coming on the radio.
Barry Gibb is the singer with the very high vocals in the trio. He has always had outstanding vocal range, The Bee Gees have had a very long and successful recording career. Sadly, his three younger brothers have passed away. It is great to see someone discover their talent and share your reaction with us.
You crack me up with your reaction! When young people think that the Righteous Brothers and The Bee Gees are black , again cracks me up
When it got bright at 5:45 his soul ascended, it was too much heaven!
"Honey I have the song... Just don't look at the singers" 😂😂
This is my favourite song as I absolutely love Barry, and it showcases his voice perfectly. Can you just imagine Barry singing this to you?? Sorry if you are inclined to feel that way. When I was in high school the Bee Gees were played a lot but it wasn't cool to like them or any kind of disco like their song "You Should be Dancing" so a lot of us girls just fantasized about Barry but didn't say anything until decades later. How stupid to think of it now, but that's how it was through all the 80's. Best time of my life though.
Their younger brother Andy also set my heart a throbbing
Theirs is a beautiful and tragic story. There were four brothers-- Barry, the twins you see here-- Robin & Maurice (obviously fraternal), and their baby brother, Andy. Andy was not in the singing act but had his own career in the 70s/80s. (He was my huge elementary schoolgirl crush!) Sadly, Andy's life was cut extremely short due to a virus that attacked his heart which had been weakened by his cocaine addiction. I can still remember precisely where I was when I heard of his death mere days after his 30th birthday. Andy had fallen deeply in love with an older woman (Victoria Principal) and personally, I believe his heart was physically damaged by their breakup. Conjecture, but my intuition. Bless the Bee Gees (the Brothers Gibb), they were (and Barry still is, he the eldest and the sole survivor now) absolutely brilliant. (Check out their early work-- I Started A Joke, I Gotta Get A Message To You, To Love Somebody, to name a few-- and your mind will be further blown. )
The saddest thing of all, I think, speaking as a mother of 4 sons who don't always get along, is that Barry has told in interviews of how, at the time of each of his brothers' passing, they were not on good terms and how it really affected him to reconcile these profound losses. Those who only know of them from Jive Talkin' on to SNF have only a thimble full to appreciate their brilliant genius. I hope you will listen to some of those I mentioned to further glean the phenomenal talent they were.
Just found you tonight! Subscribed. I don't have anyone near who loves music like I do and the next best thing for me is to watch young people such as yourself hear these wonderful songs I grew up with! It both makes me laugh and to be completely honest, I have cried tears of joy seeing your face light up listening to them. Found you on another channel reacting with others to Ram Jam's Black Betty after I suggested that song to another reactor. So glad I did!
mostly 70s
90 percent in the 1970s
I love seeing the REACTIONS of younger generations discovering the best, iconic, successful family music group of ALL TIME. I was born in 1970, the youngest of 7. So love recalling the memories of my older siblings listening to the Bee Gees on their vinyls. The Bee Gees gave that fresh, sensual, vibe feeling music that can never be recreated.
If it weren't for these guys, some of us might not even be here. 😉😀😏
That's when romance was hitting a high😂😂😂
" I got the Bee Gees too!" LOL! bless it! @Mr. Video you make me giggle!

If you want them at your wedding, you're going to need a shovel and about 12 hours of digging time! Nobody left but Barry! Glad you loved the video. 💞😍💞😍
Bee Gees "Nights on Broadway" Check it out. By the way, don't get married til you get to your dream. (unless that is your dream then go for it)
A time when there was no auto tune , just pure talent! They just don't make music like this anymore!
Lovely song by the Bee Gees. Everything about it is beautiful. The music, the production, harmonies, chord progressions and of course those sweet heavenly voices by the brothers! Barry, you sing it, baby!
The Gibbs had a younger brother Andy who recorded songs as a solo artist. Tragically he died young from an inflammatory heart disease brought on by a prodigious cocaine habit.
