"Unfinished business" is a good way to describe the DCEU. It had its issues - some minor, some major - but it feels like they threw the baby out with the proverbial bathwater. Cavill was brilliant as Superman, and Affleck's age gave him credibility as Bruce Wayne. CGI can turn a ham sandwich into a believable Batman, but being Bruce Wayne requires gravitas. Anyway, I guess we'll see how the reboot goes.
Maybe they only appear at the end If I was writing a film like this maybe superman inspires the world and after the big battle we get a montage of heroes stepping out into the world inspired and not afraid to do the right thing
This strikes me as a Comic Book Superman rather than the filmverse Superman. And in comics you can get crossovers of other characters... But more importantly, if you don't use them you lose the film rights to them... Though why anyone bought the rights to Guy Gardner is a mystery. But a mystery that might hint at a Green Lantern film... once they figure out how to make one.
@@cadennichols351 dude. You literally forget Iron Man 1 and every other solo superhero movie without other heroes. You just said the stupidest excuse I’ve ever heard.
This doesn't seem like Superman at all...why must we always have this weak, small, beatable Superman? Guess I'll just have to read the old comics to get the real Superman stories...
That's my greatest worry. The tone seems very good, but I don't want Superman pushed to the back because DC can't wait and take their time to develop characters properly.
Some people don't like the suits collar. I don't like the boots. They look too plasticie, if that's a word. The dog could steal the show as pet animals have a way of doing.
The first scene of the trailer is unintentionally funny. He looks more like a guy in his pajamas not wanting to get up from bed rather brutally beaten up. Lol
Snyder's only real problem with his version is that the higher ups were pushing hard to get to the Justice League stuff rather than letting it grow there as they wanted to immediately have their Avengers. Honestly, I'd love for there to be a Metropolis movie that involves Superman at some point. I remember a comic that barely had Superman in it save as a brief bit...essentially it was a story about the city regaining hope due to Superman.
It might not be bad, it might even be quite good. I'm just at the point though of being burned out with superhero movies. Particularly DC with their constant re-boots & re-castings of the same heroes every time a dud of a movie they shovel out doesn't make them a bazillion dollars at the box office.
I think I'm going crazy. I must be the only one who thinks he doesn't look like a good Superman. The suit still looks like it doesn't fit well and like something that would never be possible to hide under his clothes. He doesn't look the part to me. I didn't want another director's stylized vision of Superman, I wanted him to step out of the comics or one of the animated productions and onto the silver screen. A big burly Superman starting out in a suit his mom made him. Not some rubbery looking whatever this is.
This ☝️. It’s the suit that’s ruining it for me as well. The CW show even had the 1930s era suit in the first episode that Martha made for him in the first few minutes.
I think he (the actor) could be a fine superman. Without hearing him in scenes with dialogue, judging screen prescence, etc, it's just not possible to tell. Brandon Routh could make a fine supes too, in his day, but the dialogue was wooden and unconvincing. That's mostly all on direction and writing. That said -- I'm just not a fan of many of the design choices. Suit looks... off. Great colors, interesting variation of the 'S' but it looks like something from a backline Marvel character (imo) and I am just not sold. I think the MOS suit set a good baseline to iterate from, if a bit too dark blue for my tastes, and the Superman & Lois suit was shockingly good for a TV series. A $350M movie ought to not have to even remotely compete with a CW/Max Series suit. Just doesn't look up to par.
It looks like a comic book brought to life. That didn't play well in Hulk (2003). But, this is Superman and Gunn did make the GOTG work. So, I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.
@@PettyCrow-n9c Yes, I have. I've been reading comics off and on since the 80s. Krypto looks great. Guy Gardner is a little old, but passable. I don't like the design of the S. But, I'm thrilled to see the red trunks back.
@@Minecraft_at_Night I would say quiz me. But, you'd just say I was looking up the answers. I used to watch the 50s show with my Dad, I grew up with The Super Friends and the Dini-verse. I can't name off artists and issue numbers. I'm not that knowledgable. But, I'm far from a normie.
I think it works because it immediately made me wonder what happened, what was he fighting that was able to hurt him like that. It sets up that there is definitely going to be something in this movie that will be a major challenge for Superman to overcome.
It looks cheap like a CW show. Smallville looked better. Gunn has built this Superman on a very bad foundation of two juvinile garbage flops from the DCEU (the Suicide Sqaud and Peacemaker) that Gunn brought over to the DCU and Gunn's current juvinile flop Creatures Commandos. The tone for this univere has been set with, stupid, Juvinle humor and mentally stunted adults making it a universe that is more naked Gunn with Superheros
Completely agree. Krypto dog, cartoonish over saturation. Cavills more serious, gritty Superman was the right direction, just DC rushing a universe was the issue. We didn't need/want this childish reboot.
@nah88 I'm fine with Krypto, but they seem to want to throw in as many references for classic Superman fans, while giving yet another modern take. It just clashes instead of coming together.
Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, and Creature COmmandos were critical darlings lol. THE Suicide Squad came out in the middle of a pandemic, with same day streaming, and off the back of the hated FIRST suicide squad movie. That's the only reason the box office didn't work out.
Allegedly they’re still working on that one, but I suspect it’s like Rian Johnson’s Star Wars trilogy and they don’t want to admit it’s been shelved because they’d be accused of racism.
I believe the DCEU could have been saved, but James Gunn took the easy route and rebooted everything while only keeping his projects in the DCEU. The most important quote for the DCEU is, Batman isn't the Batman we knew anymore, and Superman isn't the Superman we know yet. I believe by the end of Zack Snyders Justice League, they both became the Superman and Batman we know. And to show it, we should have gotten a Man of Steel 2 and a solo Batman film which is what could have corrected the DCEU!
Nah, unfortunately we saw where Snyder was going with Superman, and he was going to go the Knightmare route by making Superman super evil, and THEN Superman gets redeemed. But after destroying and conquering the Earth, is that really the Superman we want? It's like getting a blue licorice after having to eat an entire bag of black licorice. Yes, the blue will taste good, but it's not going to remove the bad taste of the black licorice out of your mouth.
I’m just not feeling it from this teaser. Something is “off”. Maybe the symbol, the other heroes in the film..? I dunno..it’s not giving me a Superman vibe, more of let’s see how much we can throw at the comic fans. Casuals aren’t going to know half the characters in this film.
@@MrMeatballMasterMort I disagree with you and OP’s viewpoint. You’re being far too negative towards the movie and leave little room for optimism in my opinion. It’s one thing to be cautious towards an ambitious movie but, to have a negative viewpoint like yours is another thing. A “CW show from 10 years ago” is below the belt, especially for a TEASER trailer. Like I suggested, wait for more to be shown or watch the movie. Before any assumptions of myself can be made: 1. I’m not a D rider for Gunn, I have my doubts regarding what’s been showing in Creature Commandos as well as some casting choices for this movie / 2. I’m coming from the stand point that this movie deserves a chance before being judged so harshly / 3. Henry Cavil was great for the time we’ve had him but his roll as Superman has since ended and it’s time to move on.
I know in alot of his depictions he has it but why, oh why did they give Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner that horrendous bowl cut? He looks like a ginger Moe from the Three Stooges. There better be a line in the movie where someone asks him where are Larry and Curly.
As much as I loved Christopher Reeve in the "original" , the annoying plot holes like how exactly did Lex Luthor figure out Kryptonite? And if Krypton is indeed in another Galaxy, the fragments couldn't possibly "drift" to Earth by happenstance. And why did this "Phantom Zone" flying pane of glass just happen to be passing by Earth right when Superman sends an elevator with a thermonuclear bomb into outer space? Superman III and IV were absolutely corny and campy and cringe inducing. Brandon Routh was a descent stand-in for Reeve as Superman Returns was an attempt to continue the story in the same universe. Even going so far as to use Marlon Brando's holographic image in the Fortress of Solitude. I really liked Henry Cavil and the Zack Snyder DCU. They did a decent job of bringing the Justice League together and Ben Afflec's Batman was good. I guess Superman is one of those characters that is so timeless and universal, you can't ever have just one perfect actor to play the character. While Christopher Reeve will always be my favorite, the 1978 depiction of Metropolis is a bit dated now. Complete with CRT televisions and rotary phones. I'm hopeful for this one.
Huh????? I like how you don’t mention how awful green lantern looks in this movie and that dragon looked garbage! This teaser trailer did nothing to hype this movie up?!
It looks exactly like Guy Gardner, a member of the green lantern Corps, looks like in the comics. He's a tool so should be a fun character, especially if played by Fillion
As far as I know, James Gunn's movies only come in two flavors: cynical deconstruction, and Guardians of Galaxy. Judging by the presence of Gardner and Krypto, I'm guessing he's gunning for a mix of the two this time-a combination that is about as much of a good idea as putting gravy on Skittles. Nothing for me here, moving on...
It's not just Kryptonite. Superman has a number of weaknesses that villains can take advantage of. He has basically no defense against magic, forced teleportation, time travel, the radiation of red stars, and many higher-level beings can outdo, or even outright take away his powers. He also has no shortage of villains who can compete with him on various levels and in various ways. The Parasite, Metallo, Zod, Mongul, Livewire, Bizarro, Mxyzptlk, Brainiac, and oh, yes. Darkseid, among many others. If they don't want to go with any of those (and that's perfectly fair,) then they can come up with a completely new super-villain. It's not at all difficult to imagine up a character, demon, monster or alien that can keep up with Superman in their own way. You just have to be willing to tell stories about very powerful evil creatures and heroes. Just a few ideas would include; (1) some ancient pagan god rises again to reclaim his or her old throne, and Superman has to find some way to defeat them, (2) a Jekyll and Hyde-type character is possessed by a monster that causes him to become superhumanly powerful and destructive when subjected to certain stimuli. Superman realizes this, and struggles with the need to defeat this enemy, while also not wanting to hurt the man, (3) super-powered aliens from a nearby star arrive on Earth and offer their help to protect Earth from further threats, but of course, it turns out to be a deception, and some of them abduct Superman. He needs to learn their weakness before they can put their evil plan into action. Superman is *the* super-hero. Stories about him just have to be exciting and impressive; they don't take all that much to work out.
What if they brought back Cavill, Hadot, etc. as the CRIME SYNDICATE?! Snyder fans WOULD show up to see Cavill's Ultraman punch Corenswet in the face...😅
Meh, it does look pretty bad to me. I'm not saying that CGI is bad in general, but THIS CGI looks quite shit in my opinion. The color tone is also really basic, like there is no character to it at all.
So, to sell me on a new Superman....you start with him beaten into a bloody pulp. Wow! Genius marketing, WB. We've seen this guy deconstructed over and over for the past 20 years. I'll pass another round of "he's just one of us" love stories.
I thought the EXACT same thing! Glad I wasn't the only one. And the way they weave the labored breathing into the teaser itself? Are we sure Syder isn't still involved here 😂
Colour correction is a surprisingly overlooked aspect of post processing. The gray was a Snyder choice obviously but the colours popping have a comic feel.
Im sorry, Krypto the superdog made me laugh and not in the way the movie intends. It all feels a little too campy and like a parody. Its more like an Austin Powers interpretation of superman and i dont think the normie neutral audience will take to that so much. Krypto the superdog... 😄😆😅🤣😆😄
I think Superman is a hard hero for me to like, because as you stated, he is overpowered. When he steps out of the door he is invulnerable. He can not be brave, because there is nothing that he fears, there is nothing that he has to overcome. His villians have to be overly overpowered or the . I love the idea of his purity. An alien Captain America,
Im 57 and saw the Christopher Reeve movie in the theater. The music takes me back to my youth. I'm hoping this movie is great . It's all about the story , will it get me to care about the characters.
What the SHOULD do with a nearly all powerful Superman , is not just to match him up against an equally powerful adversary , although that would always be a pertinent element if used correctly, but to have him use his intellect to solve problems, employing his super-powers when called for , to overcome otherwise impoosible barries to progress and success. This can be both overcoming obstacles that would stymie mere mortals AND to gain the advantage when needed. It doesn't ALWAYS _have to be_ a major "fight scene" .
Having Superman bloodied on the ground and having Krypto save him is quite a bold choice to present your first look at the new Superman... I get more the sense of how fantastical the world he inhabits than this is why I should believe in THIS Superman I got chills for the movie of how Comicbook crazy this is gonna be, but I still don't know if this Superman will work just yet I think what they are doing is, we need to see Superman kinda beat down and hated so he can have his redemption arc or something... it's quite the choice Good lord did they make Green Lantern Guy Garnder (played by Nathan Fillion) look bad... holy shit... I didn't recognize him and thought that was Pedro Pascal or Christopher Lloyd's Fester Addams or something
Just use the animated series of Superman from the 90s as an example of depowering him. He doesn't have to be so powerful from the start that the entire city is doomed if he sneezes.
worst cover of John Williams theme I have heard, probably ever. Superdog utterly ridiculous idea in a live action movie, Donner is turning in his grave.
So so true. Theres a reason so much of the comic stuff never used to make it into the movies, it was called quality control. I laughed SO HARD when i saw a little white dog with a cape appear ...and then to start pulling superman? 😄😄😄 it felt like the movie was an SNL comedy sketch not a live action 200mil movie. Guess thats where the standards of movies is at today... and the reason they had to coin the term "flopbuster" 🤣
I never had issues with how Man of Steel looked. I really loved the emotional core of the movie. Even Batman Vs Superman was enjoyable. One of my favourite elements was Batman trying to contribute to the doomsday fight when Superman and Wonder Woman are basically gods in comparison. Slightly different but relatable is Sokka in Avatar: The Last Airbender (Animated) At times he, as a non-bender, had to work so hard to contribute when the others were all benders. Superman did become overpowered and kryptonite cannot be the only solution. Things still need to have weight, literally and figuratively. His powers and abilities all need limits and as heroes stories normally go those limits will need to be broken to beat the bad guy. He will need to try and to fail and to try again. He will need to put in the effort and earn those victories.
I'm not sure that it does his job, for me was "meah, I will skip this because if the promotional video didn't made me feel exited, I'm not going to waste a few hours to see it"
Gunn wants total creative control and, right or wrong Cavill demands input. Also, I can imagine the Cavill/Afleck/Gadot/Mamoa combo is really expensive and still doesn’t guarantee a big draw. Based on this teaser, unless we find out there’s something weird in it I’ll give the new one a chance.
It’s impressive how different Clark Kent looks in this one. I wish I could be more optimistic, but the word that came to mind for me was “busy.” They show so many characters here, it looks like a preview for a whole universe, not a movie, so I don’t understand the how they’ll fit anybody.
This will likely be the last Superman reboot under copyright. If this is a trilogy that ends in 2029, it would likely take a couple of years to reboot again but Superman goes into public domain in 2034. I would love to see the creativity unleashed with a public Superman.
I DON'T TRUST IT. Overall it's a mixed bag to me. There's gonna be some very cool "COMIC BOOKY" things in this movie that'll go over big with most normies...but GUNN clearly is also putting things in it directly to attack the sensibilities of purists ( that suit, for example is just a non-starter. I hate it every time I see it. WHY DOES SUPERMAN NEED KNEEPADS???) That's why I'm not going to support it. I'm sick of Hollywood antagonizing the fan base. I'm just so sick of "a FRESH take." All that aside, KRYPTO ABSOLUTELY STEALS THE TRAILER.😊
Going back to flank steak after Wagu A5 is a tough sell for me. I also don't want to go back to the campy DCU style. So the dog is a bit too much of a stretch for me. Hope it does well but I'm not feeling this one.
Okay I'll give some positives then some negatives. 1. The Suit is Matte, as all suits should be, it's bright as Superman's outfit should be. 2. His Clark is accurate, he is humane, not a wayward god looking for his place on earth. Now the negatives... 1. The suit has a collar, this means the actor has no trapezoids or they look down on muscles/real men 2. The suit is new 52 styled, which means the story is eventually gonna lean into "replacing" him somehow. 3. Krypto isn't a Labrador or a white german shepard, if you want a fuzzy dog, you get a husky. I can rain way more negatives but those are the dominant ones, I'm hoping Supes will get an upgrade in a trilogy, where his suit transitions from his baby blues to Royal blues.
At first I thought, "Oh God, not moody Superman again" - but when Krypto turned up it piqued my interest. I could do without the appearances from Green Lantern and Hawkman, but I'm cautiously optimistic about what we could have here.
I've seen the DC movies reboot so many times it *feels* like a nearly daily occurrence. I know that's an exaggeration compared to how many times they actually have rebooted it, but it's still enough times that it doesn't surprise me like rebooting the MCU would.
If the Movie comes from a place of respect for the source material, it can't be all bad. Even if it's not great, that would at least warrant a view when it goes to a streaming platform that I am already on.
Okay, I would have forgiven them for pulling the rug under Henry Cavill if they made MoS 2, JL2 as animated movies with cheaper voice cast. Tying up loose ends would give a better foundation of calm and embrace for the new. But instead they just gave us a sour taste and some Snyderbros are in full cult mode to try to cope.
They should have given Henry a final solo movie and that should have been the beginning of "Injustice God Among Us". I would have loved to see Henry in that Superman role.

John Williams music is doing a lot of the lifting here. Imagine it again without that.
And it's a bad cover to boot.
It on guitar sounds wrong
Nah not really.. sounds more like my 7 year old murdering it on his guitar 😂😂😂
Wow, 40's band dads.
I hope it's better than I think it will be. Someone in a chat said they were 'cautiously optimistic', I feel incautiously unoptimistic. I do hope I'm wrong.
Had the color pallet of peace maker with close ups fit for nbc with a discount cavill. In not impressed
I’m a Superman fan… and I gotta say… not a single cell in my body moved or felt excited. I saw it… that’s it
It's hard to get excited when you know that they'll just reboot the character within 5 years.
I had the same reaction. Just... nothing.
The reboot multiverse strikes again
I don’t like that other superheroes are in Superman’s movie. This is supposed to be a Superman movie, not the Justice League.
Maybe they only appear at the end
If I was writing a film like this maybe superman inspires the world and after the big battle we get a montage of heroes stepping out into the world inspired and not afraid to do the right thing
This is my biggest problem. The fact that they're still shoving other heroes in is annoying.
Same here. They should have focused on Superman in his own movie, but James Gunn can't help himself on making a team film instead of a solo movie.
Guardians of the Peacemaker Squad
This doesn't seem like Superman at all...why must we always have this weak, small, beatable Superman? Guess I'll just have to read the old comics to get the real Superman stories...
It seems to suffer from bloat due to the cast
That's my greatest worry. The tone seems very good, but I don't want Superman pushed to the back because DC can't wait and take their time to develop characters properly.
@ ✋🏼👍🏼
Seen that far too many times with far too many movies. Pick up any Superman comic and you'll see... THIS.
Meh... This trailer was decidedly unimpressive. To be perfectly frank, it did not engender any confidence in James Gunn's work post-Marvel. 😑
💯
Some people don't like the suits collar. I don't like the boots. They look too plasticie, if that's a word. The dog could steal the show as pet animals have a way of doing.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Superman is supposed to be a beacon of inspiration, a winner. Why does he look like such a loss.
Because an Israeli actor is playing Superman
Israel destroys all good Christian heroes
It's crazy that Tyler Hoechlin had a better Superman costume.
The first scene of the trailer is unintentionally funny. He looks more like a guy in his pajamas not wanting to get up from bed rather brutally beaten up. Lol
James Gunn Superman suit sucks. It looks like a rubber suit.
Snyder's main problem is that he doesn't direct his actors well, which is his primary job.
It might not be bad, it might even be quite good. I'm just at the point though of being burned out with superhero movies. Particularly DC with their constant re-boots & re-castings of the same heroes every time a dud of a movie they shovel out doesn't make them a bazillion dollars at the box office.
Superman looks so depressed.
Yep Not one smile
Yep....here we go again....
You are definitely not the only one.
Same here. I wish they had gotten the director of the first Captain America movie and cast someone else.
DW you're not the only one, it looks like an AI generated fan trailer.
It looks 'strange' but not awful at this point...only time will tell
It looks like a comic book brought to life. That didn't play well in Hulk (2003). But, this is Superman and Gunn did make the GOTG work. So, I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Didn't like that the first time seeing Superman is him beaten up and bloody
I think it works because it immediately made me wonder what happened, what was he fighting that was able to hurt him like that. It sets up that there is definitely going to be something in this movie that will be a major challenge for Superman to overcome.

“Juvenile”!

Honestly it will be better than the nonsense this trailer is showing
I believe the DCEU could have been saved, but James Gunn took the easy route and rebooted everything while only keeping his projects in the DCEU.
The most important quote for the DCEU is, Batman isn't the Batman we knew anymore, and Superman isn't the Superman we know yet.
I believe by the end of Zack Snyders Justice League, they both became the Superman and Batman we know.
And to show it, we should have gotten a Man of Steel 2 and a solo Batman film which is what could have corrected the DCEU!
But we didn't. So get over it
Nah, unfortunately we saw where Snyder was going with Superman, and he was going to go the Knightmare route by making Superman super evil, and THEN Superman gets redeemed. But after destroying and conquering the Earth, is that really the Superman we want? It's like getting a blue licorice after having to eat an entire bag of black licorice. Yes, the blue will taste good, but it's not going to remove the bad taste of the black licorice out of your mouth.
It's not bad... but it's not great either....
My thoughts exactly.
It’s a teaser, further judgement should be reserved until we see the first official trailer.
@@brandenjenkins9479 Nah OP is right to me looks like a CW tvshow from 10 years ago no matter how much they show it just looks mediocre.
Because Guy Gardner has a bowl cut and you would have cried if they didn’t.
You've never seen Guy Gardner before then, dude almost always has a bowl cut
Exactly Green Lantern looks like Lloyd Christmas got into motorcross
The costume looked meh but what is that thing on his head???
Oh no someone doesn't agree with me on every little thing. Nerd.
The costume looks like a mix of Guy Gardners costumes
It looks exactly like Guy Gardner, a member of the green lantern Corps, looks like in the comics. He's a tool so should be a fun character, especially if played by Fillion
The costume looks terrible
This is the first time in a very long time that I see people reacting positively to a comicbook movie.
This feels very much like All Star Superman

I think Superman is a hard hero for me to like, because as you stated, he is overpowered. When he steps out of the door he is invulnerable. He can not be brave, because there is nothing that he fears, there is nothing that he has to overcome. His villians have to be overly overpowered or the . I love the idea of his purity. I don't know, Nathan Fillion with a bowl cut is an interesting sight, to say the least. Lol.
I'm with you that the Snyder Universe should've finished.

Agreed. Sounds like they hired Slash to cover it
Still waiting to be impressed.
There's so much going on; If the story container can hold it then she'll sail true.
I'm just so sick of "a FRESH take."
All that aside, KRYPTO ABSOLUTELY STEALS THE TRAILER.😊
Going back to flank steak after Wagu A5 is a tough sell for me. I also don't want to go back to the campy DCU style. So the dog is a bit too much of a stretch for me. Hope it does well but I'm not feeling this one.
Why the fk does Superman flinch when someone throws a can at him?
Oliver harper said the same thing about the colour looking good
The casting for the DCEU was actually pretty good. The stories, in general, were terrible.
As I said when I saw the trailer itself: This might not suck. But we'll see.
Okay I'll give some positives then some negatives.
1. The Suit is Matte, as all suits should be, it's bright as Superman's outfit should be.
2. His Clark is accurate, he is humane, not a wayward god looking for his place on earth.
Now the negatives...
1. The suit has a collar, this means the actor has no trapezoids or they look down on muscles/real men
Earth passes through a kryptonite cloud as in Maximum Overdrive. A whole day where supes is powerless.
At first I thought, "Oh God, not moody Superman again" - but when Krypto turned up it piqued my interest. I could do without the appearances from Green Lantern and Hawkman, but I'm cautiously optimistic about what we could have here.
Again all I'll say is if this fails...The DCEU needs to close shop period...but there will be clap back because of So many Henry Cavill fans..
I really don't know why nobody has remade the Christopher Reeve costume using today's modern tech and materials.
Reeve didn’t need a padded suit he used and showed off his real muscles.
